What a phenomenal video!! I’ll admit I sat and watched every minute of it, and man was it entertaining. I’m a rear load junkie, so those shots of the truck backing right up to the piles and just chewing away at them was awesome. Great coordination from everybody on site to make this happen, and efficiently and pretty quickly too. Really unfortunate for residents and customers with the whole strike thing, but you’ve got some A+ content out of it, and I’m loving every minute! Great job!
I'm glad you enjoyed it! I had a great time filming the strike videos, everyone I came across was so kind and professional and was there to just get the job done, no matter what it took. They're still playing catch up and probably will be well into February but at least the strike is over! Thanks again!!
I’m from Illinois and have been following the strike on your channel. This is an insane amount of trash. Shoutout to all those helping to clean it up. Great video.
WOW! After the dumpster have been emptied I would have filled them back up instead of tossing the garbage bags around. I have more respect for what you workers go thru each day, be safe
The number of guys working there, they could have hand carried the trash out to the truck faster. What a mess. Im hoping that the owner of the red car was warned about parking in fron of the waste bin corral.
Terrible 🤢 that ashame how can you let a pile of trash pile up and rats 🪳 etc crawling around thank you sanitation for helping out and doing a great job you guys going to be bless
It seems like it was more efficient to just back the truck to the trash and throw it right in. Instead of the loader. But further on in the video they seem to only load a part of the loader to not miss the truck opening. Guys worked their asses of. Respect!!
That's a ton of trash! There are a couple apartment complexes with the same problem where I live. Need more dumpsters! Making things look good! Also seems like a lot of that could be in recycle bins...
Man, that opening dumpster shot genuinely blew my mind! Had to watch that a few times to really take it in haha. Haven't been following this too quickly but happy to hear that it's over. Republic driver's deserve whatever they were striking for 100%. Pretty neat seeing that rear loader collecting everything. Amazing work documenting this!
Blew my mind too considering it's a freaking apartment complex!! Everyone here in SD county is happy it's over too, now the catch up work begins. Thanks!!
Hope they made the corps pay for what they caused. i mean any news report they said the basics of what they wanted or needed and the corps just delayed till city bosses got involved to help or make the corps give in when it all could have ended sooner.
It is great all these people cleaned up but I have to say if that big bulldozer can get in-between those cars why did they not just back the garbage truck 🚛 in there and save all the hassle.
What a mess!, i expected to see rats running out of it!, it must have smelled horrible!, strange exhaust on the rear loader truck, never seen one like that before, funny looking long box on the top!
There is a lot of room for improvements. Here in my city we do have plastic containers in our backjards. They are easy to be filled and they got picked up twice a week by the city. There is no litter lying around like here.
Teidän pitäisi laputtaa kaikille henkilö autoilijoille pitäisi laittaa siirto määräys että tulette tekemään roskien poistot kokonaan , niinkuin tehdään Suomessa / Finnland niin teilläkin olisi helpompi tehdä työt .
Good job guys. I'm kind of disappointed the city let it get to this point in the first place. The city should've had a contingency in place for this. That level of waste buildup is how you create a bacterial epidemic. Good job by these workers though cleaning up this massive mess.
First of all, WOW!! I didn’t think anyone would be able to film that RL but yet here we are! It was a once in a lifetime opportunity to see CV picking up their own trash. Was the Blue Crew drivers working? I heard Andrew from CV was driving the RL. I noticed that they picked up some bulky items too! Republic wouldn’t usually touch anything outside the container. I just loved that shot you got of the FL and RL together! Great job again!
Thanks Josh! Blue Crew was working but only on commercial this day. The driver of the rear and front load were both from the CV yard, didn't catch their names though. Can't blame the rear load driver for crossing the picket line to support him and his family especially during week 4 of no pay. The front load driver was too new to join the union yet.
I would imagine the Chula Vista has to have some sort of legal recourse in the contract to fine RS over this. This is the kind of horse hockey you get with industry consolidation. I saw it all starting in the 80's and now consumers don't have much of a choice.
They are exploring every avenue according to some of their council meetings. Surprisingly, per the contract, Republic Services was/is not responsible for work stoppages due to striking employees.
Been waiting for someone to post a video of this operation! Looks to be neat, but that bucket definitely is too big. This is CV's ocu version. Do you know if this is still going one? The city's line is still up so I assume it is unless republic has catched up by now, goes to show what happens when you strike a big city (if cv is big).
Agreed, the bucket is too big for this but probably just right for when it gets used in the Streets Division. Wish he would have used the bottom open feature but it was still pretty cool seeing it being used on trash. As far as I know, the city was suppose to end this route yesterday.
weight of the dumpster and maybe the wheels don't work properly? And the position of the cherry red Scion might make it hard for them to roll it out without bumping into it?
Can only guess they had city bosses who know the gear they got and need to get the job done right first time suggest to have a crew and scooper then have a trash truck close by to unload and clean around areas anytime. and to by chance have cars parked in the way was a pain i guessing to get the scooper close enough to fill and unload any stop. seen no updates but hope the city made the corp foot bill for what it caused any.
Congratulations on a good job I do have one thing to say why is there so much garbage don't they pick the garbage up once a week they do where I live here in Iowa why is there so much garbage oh and another thing isn't that a fire hazard putting them trash bins in between them apartments you think that'd be a fire hazard and against the law it's all common sense have you ever seen that garbage container on fire it would light them apartments up so quick that's my opinion
Thanks! These apartments usually go once a week but becasue of the strike, they hadn't been serviced in a few weeks. This was taken on day 29 of the strike.
Why pick up trash, high target rate hunh. After all as they wrote about In the handmaid's tale the smack version of the real curse of the Nazi camp pianist. This is third world country right here In america.
Is there nothing you boys in the states would not dump and expect the bin men to pick it up, coming from Northern Ireland the bin men would not lift half of that stuff. Never mind cleaning up there spillages
Guessing the crew know what to do so not to leave area looking like trash so as u saw they made area look as decent as possible after tossing any xtra so other trucks come and empty bins later. not sure how other places do stuff but crew here wanna be happy they did a job right the first time so all get in and clear what gotta at time.
I've been watching this series of footage you've posted and I'm thinking to myself of what is the worst kind of strike a city can have? When you're garbage company workers decide to whine and let things get to bubonic plague levels of mass garbage piles. I never thought I would see this in the modern era where a state has gotten so bad that it allows the trash to pile up to disease levels because a Union is controlling the workers to strike at the littlest of setbacks. At this point, I think California is going to turn into a trash ridden shithole because over in LA county near the ports, the railroad looks like a landfill from it being mass robbed by criminals and homeless who leave huge piles of trash just like that. I pray for those of you in California to get your act together and take your state back because the rest of the country is hurting from what you escape to only put in our laps.
This strike in Chula Vista was almost and close to the 2006 Taormina Industries strike in Anaheim. It effected not only Anaheim but the neighboring cities they were contracted to like Garden Grove, Yorba Linda, Brea, etcetera. Fullerton was the most effected at the time, since the city still had manual collection service prior to the switch to automated in 2009. It got to the level of where almost all the garbage piled up covered the dumpster and filled the spot they're placed in. I strictly remember as a child watching my family members load up my dad's old pick up truck with garbage that overflowed next to our apartment. He had to remove it since I was only a 4 year old, and it was a health risk for me due to my age at the time. I'm happy that those residents living there had their accumulated waste taken care of.
@@NorthOCRefuse2016 I wouldn't let my trash even get to that point because one, it wouldn't be healthy for anyone regardless of age, two, the smell, three, rats. That and I live in a nice area and want to keep it that way. If you noticed in the neighborhoods versus the cities, they didn't let the trash get that out of hand and I'm sure they did weekly runs to the dump because nobody wants to be THAT GUY the entire neighborhood complains about. This footage is invaluable to the point where it gives us a stark warning about what happens when you Unionize a state and the Union has mass control over your workforce in city services.
Good video, I like to watch how you work, thank you, more videos can be about half an hour or longer, which you then upload to watch. Where was this at it looks it was in the winter time .I am very proud of you all you gave up your Saturday to do that good job
What was crazy was that Chula Vista Residents knew of the trash strike, but still continued to generate a ton of trash anyway. 😅

Is the CAT apart of republic services? Also do they also use skit steers for the replublic Service garbage trucks?
CAT belongs to City of Chula Vista Streets Division

Residents could have made their own haul to the dumps once a week on their own during this.
Heaven forbid they took personal responsibility for their own waste.
And who would pay for all the flat tires? Dumps are notorious for causing flats because of all of the roofing waste containing large nails.
Back up the truck to the trash if u can put that tractor that close the truck is no problem
Garbage strike was a good thing. It shows the workers true worth to the company and the community
Never see before so much junks n salute to all the workers n driver n they are really good team work. U mean every day people throw so much junks.

should have tagged it we cant pick it up please move the car lol
Excellent video dude that stinks but I’m glad everything is back to normal now too.
Why did they not use the dumpster bins to clean out the bin stores instead of hand balling all the refuse in to the rear loader
What a mess to cleanup
