Giorgio Giugiaro said something like "A five year old can design a Ferrari. The challenge is making a car that costs nothing and still looks good and performs well". I think Renault nailed with the R5 what Fiat once did with the Fiat Panda. Well done!
Giugiaro also nailed the design of the original VW Golf (and Scirocco), just like Gandini did with the Supercinq in 1984. BTW, contrary to what is said in the video, the Supercinq isn't a facelift of the original R5 (transverse engine, different platform and suspension setup).
@uiPineappleExpress Yup, and it's totally distinct from the first generation on a technical standpoint except some engines (Cléon fonte engines family) that have been modified for a transverse implantation. If the Supercinq was only a facelift, many spare parts would have been interchangeable which isn't the case. The Supercinq shares a lot more spare parts with the R9/R11 (US Renault Alliance/Encore) models than with the original R5.

When it was time for both of us to leave, the ship astern weighed (raised) its anchor and a Renault 5 came up with the anchor. Only in Marseille.
The best small car reinterpretation since the 2001 Mini and the Fiat 500! Wow! Even the seat design, as well as the fabric styles in the interior match to the 70ies/80ies.

Wrong images of the interior and rear end. Most of the design of the R5 E-Tech interior and rear end is inspired in the original R5 and R5 Turbo, not in the Renault “Supercinq”/5 "facelift" (a second generation on a different platform rather than a facelift).
My 3rd and last Renault is my current drive so this design makes me feel so nostalgic. And, like many design focused cars, there are quirks that are character building... EV's so desperately need character.
All the constraints because of regulations (🔌 motorization), crash tests etc & they still managed to pull it off. 🤯 This quality of design + engineering will always get my respect. You also totally mix it up when showing dashoards. The interior you're showing at 12:00 is mk2 one, not the mk1 - which, not only was different from this, as it had 2 versions (1 in the 1972, and another in the 1979 facelift).
Rosy❤
If the Renault 5 were a hybrid, like the Prius, then, yes, it would be mind blowing. As is, it's a great design concept... meh.
Meh to you! The future is electric dinosaur 🗣
@@MatrixJockey You will own nothing and be happy.
"If this petrol car could have been pulled by horses"
@@davidhunternyc1What's the point?
ALL cars nowadays are connected, even the ICE ones.
So they also can kill an engine from a distance!
Buy a Clio... It is is brother
I dont know why you are still raving about ice cars, didnt you get the memo that we have to stop burning stuff?
Because … why? CO2? Yeah, because the CO2 output of a small hot hatch is statistically relevant in any way compared to Taylor Swift‘s private jet. Give me a break.
@@haderlumpiIf you look at it like that, even the private jet is statistically irrelevant to the global CO2 emissions. Global emmissions are just the sum of numerous small emmissions that all have to end. At least there is now an easy alternative to ICE cars, unlike jets.
They need to rebadge this as a nissan, manufacture it in North America, and do some small styling changes, and use the parts bin to make this happen.
God that would make me so happy
It does share a lot with the next Nissan Micra
Why? Americans only buy trucks, SUVs and crossovers
Especially not!
This will also come as the new Micra.
Schools still out for me on this new Renault.
It's up against the Fiat 500e and Mini e, both of which have this tight market segment sewn up, for quite a few years now.
Looks a little Suzuki Swift/Honda e/mini-Hyundai Ionic 5/Peugeot 208e front facia rip off ... to me.
Simply doesn't look "french" enough. Renault enough. Nice try by Renault though.
This will outsell the Mini and 500 combined, guaranteed 🎉
@@jimmyh6601Don't forget to post the Total sales Number for the new Renault 5, along with the Total Sales Numbers for the 500 and Mini, when they have sold more.
@@Mexxx65 will do, I know I've been waiting a year to put my order in for the Renault 5, the reveal reinforced that.
