Definitely a matter of opinion and type of music. EC2’s are fucking bad ass they sound like cannons.
Good drumming young man! I've been playing for years but have not had a rehearsal space for over 20 years. Really sucks since I'm 48 now but getting a new house this year. Going to build a garage with a drum riser in it so my 2 sons can play on my kit to see if they would like it. Tight snare. I too was a little luke warm towards my EC2 heads. I have a big ole Bonham kit and preferred the Black Chrome and the G1 clear heads. Getting ready to reskin my kit since I got another gig. Snare is getting a simple G1 coated Batter head on it.
I think I like the heads better than the cymbals. Not trying to nasty or anything. Everyone's preference is different. I'm a Paiste guy. When i played Zildjian I used mostly K Dark Crashes with a Briliant finish. For the 10 extra bucks I got a better finish and nicer sound for my ears. I've yet to find any ppl meinl that I really like but again, that's my opinion. Best of luck on your new head selection.
EC2s are sick, Aaron Ovecka who played with I The Breather used to rock em, you’re kinda nuts.
I love those EC2'S. I can hear every beautiful note and the sustain is perfect. You need different cymbals. The ones you have are the reason I the heads aren't being complimented
That doesn't make any sense. I'm just gonna say it. That was stupid. I didnt like The EC2's, they didn't produce the sound i was looking for. My cymbals are great, especially for what I can afford, also cymbal quality has nothing to do with drum head quality or like. That was a stupid comment

What heads did u choose now that u got rid of the ec2 s?? And why?? In the video u just said that u did not want them at all...
If you watch the "new drumheads" video youll see what heads I got. Hint, they're red. As to why I got rid of them, I took my drumset traveling with my drumline in high school. I was forced to use those drum heads, it was not a choice, and I am not a fan of the EC2's. I just do not like the tone or sustain. Being a metal drummer, i like shorter sustain with a deep tone, and that is not what the EC2's are

I actually play with hydraulics, so sustain was the opposite that I wanted. I wanted a really punchy, articulate sound that was able to be tuned really low. For the application that I was using the EC2's was wrong, but I cant complain to much, I got them for free. No, thats just reflection. All the heads are at least 2 full rotations tight

I FOUND TWO - SEVEN PIECE PDP, BEAUTIFUL DRUM SETS, [ RED CHERRY SPARKLE / GRAY SPARKLE.].
THESE 2 SETS WERE AT GUITAR CENTER 10 YRS AGO, FOR 1000.00 EACH, JUST SHELL PACKS.
MAYBE ONE DAY I WILL GET A HUGE PDP KIT.
THE GUY ACROSS THE STREET PLAYS DRUMS. HE IS JUST BASIC. HE DOESNT PRACTICE ON ANY REGULAR BASIS, AND HE NEVER OPENS UP TO LEARN NEW, DIFFERENT STYLES, AND IS TERRIBLE AT HIS CONTROL AND TECHNIQUE, EVEN THOUGH I HAVE GIVEN HIM MANY, MANY LESSONS, AND PRACTICE SHEETS TO TAKE ACROSS THE STREET TO PRACTICE, HE DIDNT PRACTICE THE MATERIAL I GAVE HIM, CAUSE HE CANT READ MUSIC.

I ALSO ELIMINATED THE 3 ROTO TOMS, AND NOW USE IT AS AN 11 PIECE, AND ITS FUN.
I MADE 2 BIG TOM TOMS 15 AND 16 INCH INTO FLOOR TOMS, SO WITH THE 18 INCH FLOOR TOM, I HAVE 2 ON MY RIGHT SIDE, AND ONE FLOOR TOM ON MY LEFT SIDE.
I WISH I HAD A 20 INCH FLOOR TOM. THEY DIDNT MAKE IT BACK THEN, BUT SINCE THEY MADE MY KIT FROM SCRATCH, I COULD HAVE TRIED TO GET ONE MADE THEN. AND I NEVER SEE ANY ON E BAY. IT HAS BEEN AWHILE SINCE I LOOKED.
I HAD TO BUY A 6 INCH CLASSIC TOM AND A 15 INCH CLASSIC TOM, AND FOR THAT REASON THEY HAD TO TURN AROUND EACH TOM, AND PUT THE BADGES ON THE OTHER SIDE BECAUSE EACH TOM WAS BEING TURNED AROUND WITH THE SIZE ADDITIONS. LOL.
I WAS USING TOP HEADS ONLY, THEN WHEN I COULD AFFORD MORE HEADS, I PUT BOTTOM ONES ON, ALL REMO. FOR MANY YRS. CLEAR, , BUT I FIRST USED THE LUDWIG HEADS THAT CAME WITH THE KIT. CLEAR , SILVER DOT. THEN I WAS USING WHITE COATED TOP, STRIDER HEADS.
THEN I USED REMO, THEN I HAVE BEEN USING CLEAR, THEN COATED 'ATTACK' HEADS WHICH MADE MY KIT POUND. I LOVE THEM HEADS.
I AM NOW LOOKING TO INVEST IN THE EVANS EC2 CLEARS TOP , AND EVANS CLEAR RESONANT ON BOTTOM.
I THINK THEY WILL PRODUCE AMAZING SOUNDS OUT OF ALL THOSE DRUMS, ON BOTH KITS.
WHEN I STARTED USING TOPS/ BOTTOMS HEADS, AND I MADE A FEW ADJUSTMENTS TO THE PLACEMENT OF THINGS, MY WHOLE TECHNIQUES CHANGED FOR WHAT I WAS PURPOSELY TRYING TO DO.
FROM THE TUNING TO THE POSITIONS, AND THE NEW LOOK, MADE ME A BETTER DRUMMER.
ABOUT 15 YRS AGO I BOUGHT PART OF AN 8 PIECE MAPEX DRUM KIT FOR A CHURCH BAND WHO I WAS PLAYING WITH ON SUNDAY MORNINGS AND OTHER EVENTS LIKE FESTIVALS, ETC,ETC... IT IS VERY NICE. IT IS CALLED AN M - BIRCH , BLK FORREST SAPPHIRE.
I ALWAYS WANTED A MAPEX KIT, ONLY AFTER SEEING THEM BEING ADVERTISED. I LIKED THE HARDWARE, AND THE TOUGHNESS THEY DISPLAYED ON THE WAY THEY ARE MADE.
AFTER I QUIT THE CHURCH, I TOOK 3 TOMS AND A FEW STANDS HOME, AND LEFT THE REST AT THE CHURCH.
I LEFT THEM WITH A NORMSL 5 PIECE KIT THAT IS SOLD AS A JAZZ SET UP.
I THEN BOUGHT A 5 PIECE KIT, AND THEN SOME ADD ONS, AND SOME SAME SIZED TOMS, AND I MADE IT AN 11 PIECE KIT. IT IS CALLED THE M- BIRCH. THOSE ATTACK HEADS SOUND VERY NICE ON IT.
THE EVANS WILL HOPEFULLY BE BETTER.
I FOUND A MAPEX BIRCH FLOOR TOM A FEW YRS AGO FOR A FANTASTIC PRICE, AND I BOUGHT IT. IT IS A SAPPHIRE 20 INCH FLOOR TOM.
IT DONT HAVE THE BLK FADE AWAY COLOR ON THE BOTTOM, BUT WHO CARES. THE TOP AND MIDDLE LOOK THE SAME AS MY KIT, AND I THINK THE TOM WAS LIKE 35 BUCKS.LOL.
I HAD TO BUY IT, COZ I WANTED IT .LOL.
I HAVE A COOL 'ROLAND' 11 piece v- drum electronic kit with a td 8 brain. the drums are white pads, with small blk pads and 2 huge blk pads all for cymbals, etc.
its an awesome kit to play. its very loud.lol.

i could make this a long story to tell about the 200 or more cymbals that i have but i won't.
i use to play, zildjian - a- series for years. i put them away because iafter buying wuhan china's, once i found out that wuhan makes every other type of cymbal, i bought as many as i could, and played them, until i started to collect them once the 's' series, and old traditional went out of style.
i bought every cymbal wuhan ever made.
i then bought the new traditional wuhan cymbals. i bought so many, i started playing one set, and collecting a whole new other set of the new traditional style. lol.
they are cheap to buy, but sound excellent.
i would never play zildjina again. my wuhans sound better than many of my zildjians.
i have a great collection, but i want to start selling them.
try them out my friend.
buy a 4 piece set w/ bag, and add some china's. i have triple of the china's, and so many other ones that are doubles. i have like 21 zildjian rides, and 24 wuhan rides.
try them out. if you break them, or dont like them, you didn't really break your bank acct.

the old 's' series and old traditionals sound very nice. the 's' are a little heavier sounding. they have the hand - hammered look.

i'm a Evans guy but i was never a fan of tha EC2s on tha toms so i stock with tha classic Evans G2 on tha batter side on toms and G1 for my resonant heads and now i see why Dennis Chambers used tha combo for his toms for years because usually it's a great combo, also i love EMAD but take tha pillow out because really there's no need for a pillow when u have a Emad because tha purpose of EMAD is u're tired of puttin' a pillow in tha bass drum :P

What kind of Tom Heads did you end up getting? I keep switching between the EC2s Clear and Evans G2 coated heads. I think the EC2s deliver a Dooooo, Dooooo sound (Jason on DRUMEO describes it that way). The G2s are a little more resonant. Well, I'm a 70 yo, resurrected drummer after 50 years who didn't know crap about Drum heads and Tuning back then. I'm learning now. I don't play Gigs (unless a surprise Geriatric Band should come up locally !!), and play to My Music about an hour a day. My Music: Clapton, Winwood, Mellencamp, Stones, Beatles, CCR, CARS, Talking Heads, Eagles, Foreigner, even Linda Ronstadt & Bonnie Rait & more. Let us know what you settled on?
Seeing as this video was a few years ago, if you look in my further videos I think I went with the Hydraulic Red heads. It's been a few years, and I'm not playing the black chrome heads
@@AndrewHershelChannel When you make a video such as this where the point is "the last time I'm going to play this head", it's a good idea for the structure of the video to mention the options you would prefer or what you're planning on getting to replace them and why. It makes the video more interesting to the intended audience of drummers.

You can't sell used drumheads, as soon as you use them they are already considered bad

I think the EC2s still sounded pretty cool
They werent my favorite. I would have rather used G2s especially for the application I needed them for

@@AndrewHershelChannel I mostly play G2's which are great! But now I just got a set of EC2's which sound amazing! But not as good allround heads as g2 I would say. They are mostly good for rock I would say. But if I tune them up a little bit more I'm sure they'd be pretty ok for most music
@@KarlstadDrums they just arent my style. I loved the hydraulics I got a while back, so I was happy to replace the EC2s with hydraulics. I'm personally into the really deep punchy sound, so I didnt think the ec2s fit me well
@@AndrewHershelChannel Well heads/tuning and cymbals are much personal preference. Everybody is different which is good:) I love the Ec2's and I get a punchy and deep enough sound of them(At least in my opinion. But I'm glad you seemed to find heads you liked.

Why does no one get this. Getting rid of the EC2s was a choice based on preference. Getting new heads after over a year is like 200 dollars. Get a new cymbal that I want is also Ike 200 for a singular cymbal. I didnt replace the EC2s because they suck, I replaced them because I prefer not those heads, and because they're so warn out. They were literally almost 2 years old.

You got free drumheads...you got free drumheads...just get to the point about what doesn't work about them for you...just get to the damn point. YOU NEVER SAID WHAT'S WRONG WITH THEM. YOU NEVER SAY....! Then when you do play, it's a camera mic. The audio recording is less than ideal to be able to tell what the heads sound like.
1. Your drums are tuned awfully. Choking the life out em’ dude.
2. Cymbals do effect the overall sound of your kit. Not the heads, per-say.
3. Good entry level cymbals do NOT exist. I understand playing at your budget, but c’mon man. It’s know facts here.
4. This is only constructive criticism, don’t take any of it personal.
Basically everything said here. B8s are what I started with, along with half the drummers out there. But, they're are a piercing sound that doesn't complement the drums well.
I'd also recommend looking at the bottom heads and how they're tuned. More often than not, on my own set, that is the culprit of a bad tom sound.
As for batter heads, I tried a ton of different ones on my Gretch Catalina Ash kit, and nothing was doing the trick. I switched to the Evans black chrome heads, which transformed that set from crap to amazing. I absolutely recommend those heads for future reference.
At least get some Sabian XSRs

Only good sounding entry level cymbals I’ve heard “imo” were the Zildjian zbts.
1. From my personal experience playing, choking at a certain point depending on heads either give you a heavier sound or higher pitch sound, in his case, the entire kit sounds horrible imo.
2. Cymbals & the heads equally make the sound better, not just cymbals, it’s more 50/50 than you think.
3. Disagreeing a bit. Good entry levels exist, based on taste & within range. I got 3 Zildjian i series 18” crashes, all for $300, and they sound amazing compared to what I had before. Cymbals either sound good or terrible, no in the middle really. Not fact, but rather, your opinion.
4. All in good favor sharing your opinion, but I didnt really agree much, so just sending a friendly response

He said that my cymbal quality will affect the sound that the drum heads produce. And yes, they are entry level cymbals, and you're right, I am getting what I'm paying for, but his argument of "cymbals affect the tone of the drum head" is wrong. Also, sabian B8s are significantly better entry level cymbals than any other companies entry level cymbals, so I'm just gonna stick to them until they break or I have real money to pay for stuff like better cymbals
Okay but it’s the fact that you were a dick when he just wanted to give you a tip and he was right in a way. No, the cymbals don’t affect the drum head sound, but they do affect your overall sound. There are no such thing as good entry level cymbals. They’re cut out of sheet metal and lathed and that’s all you get. Also, if you break any kind of cymbals, you’re hitting them the wrong way.
