I do this to myself alot without even knowing it. I learned that the reason why I do it is because I feel that deep down, I'm afraid to fail. Only way to get over this is to get out there and do it anyway.

@@jurjenbavelaar1558 100% agree. That is my motto this year. For my example, I haven't felt confident in a lot of things since I was 17. I am now 25 (yes, I know, self sabotage). But, I have never left my comfort zone. This can be in relation to women, talking to strangers at a bar or sports game, in investing, saying what I really feel at work, etc. If I give it a whole year, I am sure something positive will come about because of it

    My Self Sabotage/ Fears:
    • I fear targeting my ambitions because just as the dogs in the Pavlovian experiment would salivate at the sound of a ringing bell- I would *panic* anytime something good would happen to me and fear it being taken away. Like there’s a curse that the inevitable would always be somber; or a hidden motive was behind someone doing something nice for me
    • I chose to partake in long distance relationships and it’s become a pattern. I have that sense of security they’ll fall for me before allowing my sexual urges to take over. I grew up in a devout Christian household and I’ve felt that suppressing my sexuality only made it worse. I deliberately chose people out of my reach because I’ve also been raped 😕 so it makes me feel like I’ve got more sense of control of not being touched even when Physical Touch is my highest love language though that was violated in the past and I get conflicted
    • I revel in self deprecation jokes too far
    • I’m scared that getting fit will make me relapse my bulimia
    • and my worst self sabotage is knowing what’s bad for me I go ahead and do them regardless of what my brain is screaming at me to do
WELL THEN. Just dropped my baggage online. 😐 anyone do what i do?

Embrace fear!!! You’re always going to be afraid, and when you feel afraid and uncomfortable that means you need to do it... This famous theatre artist (forget their name) throws up before going on stage because they are fearful of performing, but they go on stage and perform anyways and do an outstanding job. But, if you fail keep going because guess what, you got an outcome! Rather try and fail then not try at all, that’s the truest failure...

I've done this the last 15 years. I know exactly what to do. Instead of cutting my wrists, like many do, I deliberately fail at acheiving things in life. It's like the depression makes me think I don't deserve a harmonic mind. It hurt myself all the time by doing this to myself. The difficult part is to actually do something about it, I am my own worst sabotaging "friend". Important subject, thanks for bringing this up! I refocused the idea of building popularity as a way to expose my band to a wider audience, record labels and other bands in our genre that would want us to open for them. Popularity could lead to financial stability in regards to my career in music. Now I can apply this method to any other false notions preventing me from being my best self. Thank you.

I do this with romantic relationships. As a young adult, I 'ran away' from mom and dad to be with a boyfriend. But I received the same treatment (criticism), so I would 'run back home'. My mom instilled in me that a young, beautiful, girl, living in Manhattan, would be raped and/or murdered. Now they are both deceased and I am happily living on my own, in the house, where I helped them retire (Las Vegas). I haven't had a relationship since 2005. YIKES! My limiting beliefs about men and romance seem so real. Ooooh. Maybe I am 'proving' to my dead mother that I CAN do it. Thank you so much Charlie. I've been working on this for sooo long. And in 1 video, you inspired me to uncover the compulsion to stay single. It wasn't the man thing. It was the capability thing. You're a genius. I always look forward to every Monday with you.

Nonsense. Setbacks happen to everyone - they're sometimes unpleasant, but not important. Failure only happens to those who quit trying.

@@Ariel-uo4gy, I can't argue with that definition. But the only way to not accomplish your goal is to quit trying to reach it. You're not defeated until you accept defeat.

This reminds me of two questions:
    1) Why do many of us get stuck in their mind with their greatest failures and drown themselves in misery?
    2) Why can some people just stop taking drugs overnight, while others were already clean and force themselves to drink and smoke again after an operation that required them to be clean? Yes, these are extreme examples, but it could translate to bad habits, like excessive gaming/surfing, wasting time, compulsive eating of sweets etc.
