One underrated part of corrin since sm4sh is the potential reverse edgeguarding with disjoints that heavily punishes greedy opponents or up b putting the opponent at disadvantage either with the last hit or grabbing ledge
When people talk about sword fighters kits being copy/pasted, they mean the fire emblem characters. Roy, Marth, Chrom, and Lucina. They quite literally have the same moves. That’s not like saying characters with sex kicks are copy/pasted because a lot moves in ultimate are shared but not blatantly c/p with slightly different move attributes.
@@riqua27It's because Corrin was one of the most hated video game characters of all time at one point, even among Fire Emblem fans just like Byleth but just like Byleth, all it took for people to start pretending they've always loved her was just putting her in Smash. Put Abby from The Last of Us 2 in Smash & suddenly people will love her too.
@@D_YellowMadness That's not true at all. Female Corrin is actually rank 1# at the official Nintendo poll for Fates. It's just the vocal minority that hates Corrin. Most people are actually fine with her.
@@D_YellowMadness The Reason for Fate's sloppy story, is because the writers where trying to achieve too much with not enough time. Intelligent Systems had an idea for Fate to have three stories to appeal to everyone, but they realized that they didn't have enough writers. So they hired an outside writer, Shin Kibayashi was that writer. Intelligent Systems wanted Shin to write the outline for each pathway, what happened instead is that Shin wrote 500 pages for each pathway. Intelligent Systems knew this was too long so they cut the story into pieces without the writers permission and the fact the Nintendo demanded Fates come on the Fire Emblem Anniversary only made things worse. Which resulted in this hilariously mess of a story. The good news this that there is a manga based on Fates that is a little better. Its called Fire Emblem If: the Crown of Niberlung.
It did. Just because you play a top tier doesn't mean you're not skilled. Fox is a top tier. Are you going to say Light is not a skilled player?Or how about Peach. Most of top players probably didn't even know how to play peach half as good as Muteace!!!

I'm someone who's mained corrin since the year of smash ultimate's release, and i never would've expected her to be in top tier conversations without a speed buff. I guess my unimpressive tournament placements were just a skill issue after all
The last patch/update that changed any characters was back in 2021. There have been no changes to any characters or gameplay mechanics since then. To say corrin is in a good spot NOW is a misnomer. She was always as good as she is now. People just ignored her because the pros ignored her. People pay way too much attention to pro picks and "tier lists". Any character can be good in the right hands, just as any character can be trash in the wrong ones. Period.
I dont think anyone was thinking of character strengths and weaknesses when saying the swordies are similar. It probably just came from the average playerbase seeing characters with nearly identical movesets or animations. In melee you had Marth and Roy having identical movesets, then they add Lucina who doesnt just have Marths moveset but even looks a lot like him (i know its story related) then we get Ike and Chrome also seeming very similar, and by then i imagine people were just tired of visually samey characters. Also forgot to mention the fact most of these characters were from the not so popular in the west yet fire emblem.
Corrin has been my secondary for ages now (my main is robin, obviously) and I always felt they were pretty alright at the very least. That being said I haven't played the game in a rather long time now. Nice to see they're getting some love now though!
I honestly think the reason corrin is so good in the meta is because she has a really good toolkit plus shadic and neo are on a different level with her. And her up b can kill at the top which I don’t see a lot corrin players do besides shadic and Sparg0. Corrin is an overall a solid character I been using her ever since the game came out and I can tell she is really fun.
One thing I can say about the smash community is it’s one of the only communities where the meta is constantly changing without the game presently updating, and it’s because players are constantly improving. This is what keeps a game alive.
I think Corrin's rise in the Meta is attributed to the following reasons. 1. The change in the Metagame which favors characters like Snake or Marth (though mostly the former). 2. Many smash players dub Corrin the "Fighter Pass 2 slayer", though I can't really explain why. 3. Neo and Shadic's explosive performance in recent times (Ly too, but to a lesser extent). Also, Spargo is warming up to Corrin as well.
Been a Corrin main from the beginning of Ultimate, and ever since I've thought pros have slept on their potential, especially after the last patch. All that needs to be said Vars already said it, so I'll just say it's very satisfying to see people finally realizing they should've been higher on tier lists a long time ago!
Everything depends on knock back growth. If a character has too many moves that have bad knockback growth and they can't kill reliably, then they won't ever get placed higher on the tierlist. You want moves that combo well at early percents but also have those very same moves kill at higher percents. So the player has more options to take stocks. Just a simple tweak to knockback growth here and there can make a bad character very good. Lot's of low-mid tiers could easily be high tier if they gave them more killpower.
Its crazy to think that the game has Marth... And Lucina (who is an echo of Marth)... And Roy (who was a clone of Marth)... And Chrom (who is an echo of Roy). No wonder people think all swordies are the same, there's literally 4 different fighters that all share half the same animations as each other!
Hear me out, Mii swordy is kinda cracked. Mii swordy has crazy tech chase potential, great combos, awesome kill power, and can catch you offguard at ledge with tornado drifting downward
Pretty funny, i main Corrin since the beginning and remember seeing a tier list back then and she was F, even though i was doing extremely well. Always knew she was underrated.

Where did you get the idea that the Corrin game didn't do well? It's the second highest selling FE game of all time. In fact up until a year after Byleth came to SMASH. It's still the highest selling FE game!!!
I think that Corrin would have been irrelevant if not for the buffs. I tried to play the character on release and it was borderline impossible. By the time the significant buffs arrived, I was no longer interested in playing the character for some time. However, when I did start messing around with the character again I was like wait a minute she's good! This was in 2022, people thought I was nuts!
I feel Corrin is a high tier, which is weird. Not the best swordie, that's Cloud (despite what you think about it. Aegis feel kinda overrated and inconsistent), but feels oddly adept to this game meta of bait and punish.
I still think corrin is realistically probably high tier but she's got top tier results cus she's still a really good character. Also Shadic is so good at ultimate like holy shit man.
Corrin didn't become top tier. Too many people have just lost the ability to think for themselves and take as facts what is nothing more than other people's opinion. That's why you often hear people talking about "official" tier list - when neither Nintendo or Sakurai have ever (or would ever) release one. I remeber when everyone was saying Cloud was not good in Ultimate and Spargo was only winning because he was playing online. Now people are arguing for Cloud to be banned. I said the same about Steve early on and people in the comments were telling me "get good" and the charcater was slow and his revovery was "meh". I also wondered how people were saying Corrin wasn't good when common sense should have told anyone that she has a lot going for her and that Pin is almost busted but because some pros said they were average characters, everyone else went along like they can't think for themselves. Now they will act like they just discovered something amazing.
In the earliest day of Smash Ultimate, Corrin was regarded as a contender for the worst character in the game, mainly due to their inconsistent kill or something. Sometimes I still think about the few communities that thought about this.
Whose teir-list is that you're using? I've looked at it each time you pulled it up and even zoomed in at the end. Sheik isn't even on it? What gives...
I knew this character was broken simply because Dragon Lunge's startup and damage is absurd. Having a move like that keeps you constantly in a pressurized state and is what makes her unbearable to deal with. That startup + damage + killpower is literally a broken move.
Sorry if this sounds like me being a hater (because I am, I don't like Corrin), but of COURSE one of the most boring characters in the game ends up being a top tier. It can't be someone with a more interesting moveset or personality. Nah. It has to be Corrin. This isn't because they're a swordfighter, by the way. I wish characters like Marth or Ike were good enough to be on Corrin's level. I just hate Corrin. 😫
Corrin arguably has the most interesting moveset in the game. Her charge F-Smash having a hitbox in the chainsaw is unique to her. Not to mention she's the only character that has charged projectiles that have charged melee attacks as follows up. And we're not even talking about Pin. Which is the most unique move in the game with tons of utility.
@@riqua27 You're right. Corrin has a ton of unique ideas, and you didn't even mention the back air that pushes you so far that it makes for a great recovery tool. Corrin has a lot of unique ideas ... You will not change me. 🤣
@@Mr.Cynical How is Corrin a bland character? She's arguably the most unique looking fire emblem character. The fact that she can turn into a dragon is cool. She's also unique being white haired instead of blue like 80% of FE lord. And wavy hair instead of straight. And how is her moveset being bland exactly? It's unique and looks cool. Corrin is just an anti- meta character and a character that people mostly forgot to fight against. As soon as people start to study her, she will drop in the tiers since she isn't universally viable like Steve, Sonic or Kazuya.

One underrated part of corrin since sm4sh is the potential reverse edgeguarding with disjoints that heavily punishes greedy opponents or up b putting the opponent at disadvantage either with the last hit or grabbing ledge
the last few weeks i was wondering what happened and low and behold u made a vid lets go!!
And somehow they complain when Corrin is added when she has the most unique kit out of all FE characters not named Robin!!!
I never stopped using Corin from smash 4 going into this game
I'm a little surprised it took this long for people to realize Corrin is really good.
Gonna use corrin in my first tournament in august im locked in
Good luck!!!😊😊😊
The fact that corrin is now top tier shows you that the meta doesn't dictate the work you put in with a character.
It did. Just because you play a top tier doesn't mean you're not skilled. Fox is a top tier. Are you going to say Light is not a skilled player?Or how about Peach. Most of top players probably didn't even know how to play peach half as good as Muteace!!!
@@riqua27 Not a fair comparaison cause unlike Peach, Corrin is waay easier to play.
@@s.a.k.i7768 low to mid level Corrin is easy. Try to do all the things SHADIC did with the footsie and slingshot tech. Now it's a different story. Muteace himself said he actually likes Corrin a lot and the only reason he didn't main/play her is because he cannot play Corrin as well as SHADIC. GAKT also said during his interview with SHADIC that Corrin is a really hard character.
Finally, my boy Corrin is getting some recognition! Been using him since day 1 of smash 4
This video came out at the perfect time. I’m glad I’m playing my smash 4 main again
I love watching and playing Corrin. I'm so happy they're finally getting the recognition they deserve
OH BOY, THE VIDEO WE'VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR! Goated vid is usual Vars! 👑
Honestly I love Corrin's projectile. It's not exactly a KO tool, but it is a threat given the stun, much like ZSS's Paralyzer.
I remember trying to save up money to buy corrin when I was in the 3rd grade, it seemed like it took forever, but as soon as I unlocked them, it was love at first sight. It's really nice to see that they're becoming a viable option in the competitive scene :)
As a day 1 corrin main i couldnt be happier for the corrin meta with Shadic and Neo
I randomly decided to start playing her last year and man what a fun character she actually might be my 4th main after Ken,Bayonetta, Dark pit
first dark pit main ive ever seen
@@doofuscawt he’s goated 🤷🏾♂️🤣
Love how I started to main corrin at the same time they started to pop off without any outside influence. Played them a couple of times and was like “wait… I like this” still main them now
Sparg0: *Back air pressure to end MKLeo's life*
MKLeo, up one stock: *calmly walks forward and parries one of the back airs*
It's like you can tell what both fighters are thinking in that exchange
Dragon Lance is basically a fifth tilt or fifth aerial for Corrin that can KILL
Corrin aint just top 20, she be top 15.
Someone once called Ike Dr. Corrin. I’ll never forget that
I'm someone who's mained corrin since the year of smash ultimate's release, and i never would've expected her to be in top tier conversations without a speed buff.
Period.
Corrin is the new Cloud
I've always been a corrin believer I'm just glad they're finally popping off
I honestly think the reason corrin is so good in the meta is because she has a really good toolkit plus shadic and neo are on a different level with her.
My secondary of 5 years not including the time I spent maining him in smash 4 just became really well received in the meta?
.
Well that's neat
Been a Corrin main from the beginning of Ultimate, and ever since I've thought pros have slept on their potential, especially after the last patch. All that needs to be said Vars already said it, so I'll just say it's very satisfying to see people finally realizing they should've been higher on tier lists a long time ago!
Corrin was so underrated, glad he's realized now.
As a long time Corrin main its definitely their frames and how when clashing have ALOT of recoil otherwise they're really good
As a longtime Corrin fan, seeing their steady rise to top tier had been a treat🎉
4:17 Why can i not unhear this as porn and ploud
what the fuck is wrong with me
Vars needs a new pop filter
I really really like your writing, Vars.
was waiting for this video with the sudden results
Just wanted to say you’re Goated Vars, keep making awesome content
We forgor about them
Everything depends on knock back growth.
Like ganon ?
Its crazy to think that the game has Marth... And Lucina (who is an echo of Marth)... And Roy (who was a clone of Marth)... And Chrom (who is an echo of Roy).
No wonder people think all swordies are the same, there's literally 4 different fighters that all share half the same animations as each other!
I dont want to be toxic but it took you until now to realize that ?
Hear me out, Mii swordy is kinda cracked. Mii swordy has crazy tech chase potential, great combos, awesome kill power, and can catch you offguard at ledge with tornado drifting downward
Pretty funny, i main Corrin since the beginning and remember seeing a tier list back then and she was F, even though i was doing extremely well. Always knew she was underrated.
a video like this about bayonetta would be great. she is also anti-meta and has risen into high/toptier over the last year
I have ideas for a few why no one and why everyone plays vids:
Why No One Plays:
-Peach
-Fox
-Mega Man
Why Everyone Plays:
-Mario
-Captain Falcon
-Mr. Game & Watch
... People play fox and peach
Why no one plays pit
Zelda
@@Quantum3906in top level play can you name at least ten fox mains, same with peach
people do play fox, myself included, but in terms of succeeding in top level, it's hard to find some since fox dies so easily
@@pamoon_ really? I haven't been into smash for a few months, I kinda thought fox would still be really popular, same with peach. Also, name 10 Mario mains then
It's a shame that the swordies from Fire Emblem generally lack projectiles. I guess none of them promoted yet.
Marth can't promote!!!
I'm a Corrin main since the days of Sm4sh and I'm so happy to finally see them being played at their fullest. I always knew they had a lot of potential
Already knew this vid was comin
I actually wanna see a Pac-Man video, I see him as a potential character
BRB, dropping Corrin for ICs
I didn't play the smash 4 dlc, so my first experience with her was in Ultimate. I understand the hate because the game didnt do well (I don't play Fire Emblem tbh) but her kit was really interesting, so I still main the Cotton Candy Corrin despite being better with other characters now like Rosalina
Where did you get the idea that the Corrin game didn't do well? It's the second highest selling FE game of all time. In fact up until a year after Byleth came to SMASH. It's still the highest selling FE game!!!
What happened with the mic in this episode?
Surprise F-Smash Sweetspot gotta be one of my favourite genders
Shun all of those who thought that Corrin was a Mid Tier character since Day 1 in Ultimate. They always had a chance, and always will have a chance.
Corrin WAS a Mid Tier until he got BUFFED significantly in nearly EVERY PATCH.
It's the same reason why Ryu is now deemed a Solid High Tier.
@@user-be3qc7re9o
I thought Ryu was B+?
@gregorywood7554
Early in Ultimate he was actually in the lower half of the Tier list.
He's since been moved up significantly.
Given everything he just said I truly believe shulk would be the next swordie to go upwards in the meta.
I feel Corrin is a high tier, which is weird. Not the best swordie, that's Cloud (despite what you think about it. Aegis feel kinda overrated and inconsistent), but feels oddly adept to this game meta of bait and punish.
"Good!"
When I’m tired of Seph being unfunctional and also wanna play a swordie with interesting options, I’d use corrin instead of cloud
And does great at mid range
Link is up next on the rise, bro trust.
I still think corrin is realistically probably high tier but she's got top tier results cus she's still a really good character. Also Shadic is so good at ultimate like holy shit man.
Another banger video
Now they will act like they just discovered something amazing.
bluds top tier category has 40 characters in it
corrin is high tier
It hurts me whenever people keep saying she when referring to corrin, THERES ALSO A GOOD BOY EVERYONE, GIVE HIM ATTENTION
The male one is so much worse it doesn't exist
the reason could've been "feet" and be as equally correct tbh lol
In the earliest day of Smash Ultimate, Corrin was regarded as a contender for the worst character in the game, mainly due to their inconsistent kill or something. Sometimes I still think about the few communities that thought about this.
Whose teir-list is that you're using? I've looked at it each time you pulled it up and even zoomed in at the end. Sheik isn't even on it? What gives...
Robin is next
The answer is simple.
Post 8.0, Corrin was always really good but nobody really gave her a chance.
I knew this character was broken simply because Dragon Lunge's startup and damage is absurd. Having a move like that keeps you constantly in a pressurized state and is what makes her unbearable to deal with. That startup + damage + killpower is literally a broken move.
Corrin is the best swordie, better than aegis, better than cloud
@@riqua27
You're right. Corrin has a ton of unique ideas, and you didn't even mention the back air that pushes you so far that it makes for a great recovery tool. Corrin has a lot of unique ideas ...
TO BAD IT'S ON A BLAND CHARACTER, AND DONE IN THE MOST BLAND WAYS POSSIBLE!!
HE HAS A CHAINSAW SWORD, AND ONLY ONE OF HIS MOVES USES IT LIKE AN ACTUAL CHAINSAW!!
I'll keep being a hater.
And it's always look satisfying when it land. Whenever Corrin hit Nair into Bair or Nair into Neutral B. It's always look satisfying when it hit.
Personally if you don't like Corrin it's fine. I'm not going to force you to like her. But I do find Corrin is probably one character that people often judge unfairly. And as Corrin and Fates fan. I just found it sad.
Corrin allready is in a similar spot to there smash 4 glory days.
Argueable top tier but clearly bottom of said top tier.
Corrin only won a single major in smash 4
So far corrin only one a single major in ultimate unless it was classified as a regional idk.
If only mewtwo was in a similar spot to smash 4 😢
Cloud being the best swordie depends on whether you consider Joker a swordie or not. And lemme tell you as a Yoshi main, I hate how close to being a swordie Joker is (though Cloud is, by far, Yoshi's worst matchup)
Corrin is just an anti- meta character and a character that people mostly forgot to fight against. As soon as people start to study her, she will drop in the tiers since she isn't universally viable like Steve, Sonic or Kazuya.
How knows ? Maybe yes maybe not
Oh so player like Cosmos, MKLEO, Zackray and Shuton got MU check by Corrin????
Also light beat Shadic 5 times and in their 6 match he got MU checked? Ok buddy!!!
