I had the chance to see the show twice in 1975 on a high school trip from DC. No words to describe the experience. Have the original record signed by the artists!
First professional Broadway show that I saw when I first went to NYC in 1977. Saw a matinee on Sunday, October 2nd and sat in the balcony, right side in the Broadway Theater. Excited as hell. Cried at the end I was so excited. I was a young man of 22.
October 2nd, A day before My Birthday And The Birthday Of My Very Wise, Beloved Uncle Randy. He Always Asked, Whats The Real Story? Imma Libra, He Also Would Claim. Thanks For Sharing.
I saw her in the original production on Broadway I think in 1977(?) - she was incredible! And so great her amazing vocal performance has been preserved in this recording. Thanks for letting us know your connection with her - I hope she had a wonderful rest of her life.
I got to see the play in 1976 after breaking my ankle and a neighbor took me to see for my birthday and I was blown away.. The next year I was able to perform with in a community theatrical group and re-choreographed the Tornado sequence and tweaked the yellow brick road. What a great experience, and fond memories 40 years later !!
I cannot thank you enough for having this accessible to everyone… I cannot find this anywhere else except for your channel. God bless you… You’re doing gods work.
I remember when my Mom took Colleen, my sister Teri and I to see The Wiz on Broadway in the NYC and I will always remember that Stephaine Mills was about 14 years old and she still had a powerful voice.....Thanks for the great memories. TLaws
+Manuel Orozco I wish I could get my hands on the original playbill because I also remember them saying she was 14 in the bio when I went to see it. But she was really 17 (1975)
I went to the hood school. We got to see this play for free in 7th grade. My auntie bought the soundtrack for us. On tape. I wore it out. Great memories
I also first saw The Wiz in D.C. In 1975 on a H.S. trip......It was magical and I'm still enchanted thinking about it. This song is from the Original Broadway Cast Soundtrack and is sung by Ms. Tasha Thomas. I hope they consider reviving this amazing stage play again too.
Put your arms around me child Like when you bumped your shin Then you'll know I love you now As I loved you then Though you maybe trying sometimes And I'll need you And you're not there You know I may get mad And turn away But you know that I still care But you cannot ask for more Than can come from me I am older than you are And one day you'll see If I lose my patience with you And I suddenly start to scream It's only because I just want you to be Everything that I see in my dreams And I'd like to know it's there The feeling that we have When you know that you can come Running to me Whenever times are bad
That last verse: Though you’re growing older now And I’m watching you grow I know I make you sad sometimes And see your feelings show But one day, I’ll look around Ooh and you will be grown You’ll be out in the world Such a pretty little girl Trying your best to make it out here on your own And I’ve got to know that it’s there The feeling we once had When you know that you Can come running to me Whenever times are bad
I have to agree with you Matthew. Stephanie maybe old school but her voice is still a sound of beauty. Sorry to go off topic but did you hear Ariana Grande is playing Penny in Hairspray Live.
I sure wish my parent's had taken me to see The Wiz on Broadway when it first came out even though I was only 3 at the time but I still would've enjoyed it!!!
What a good song to begin our journey to OZ! In just a few weeks, the original Broadway Dorothy Stephanie Mills will have the pleasure of singing it to the new Dorothy Shanice Williams in the Wiz Live on NBC!
Manuel Orozco ook I actually saw Hamilton online; I didnt really like it. I saw Legally Blonde The Musical, Into TheWoods & Next To Normal; I really liked Into The Woods but I also liked Legally Blonde The Musical but not as much as Into The Woods... Next To Normal not so much. I guess I'm not a real big fan of the contemporary musical theater genre :( Did you like Cinderella ?
Now this is a singer. Not like the wannabes of today. There's so much feeling and soul in this song. Gives me chills. So beautiful. Is this Tasha Thomas singing?

I am pumped about it. Make up is great. Will be a very big deal.
***** And a truly big deal Juan
+Juan Valentin Hey Juan it's been a while but I would like to know if you enjoyed the Wiz Live?
+Manuel Orozco go away your on every wiz song im actually tired of you
No one can do these songs like the original cast did!! Classic!!!!
It doesn’t get much better than this. The song and lyrics, the orchestration and most of all the gorgeous, soaring vocals.

I went to the hood school. We got to see this play for free in 7th grade. My auntie bought the soundtrack for us. On tape. I wore it out. Great memories
A most beautiful song...I saw it with the original cast..it was really amazing!
I feel all of my BLACKNESS errytime I hear this.
I'm lily white. I think of mom. Then tears come...

I must of seen this broadway show 20 xs with Stephanie Mills...yes, it was that GOOD! Thank you for posting this
Sing it Auntie!!!!
They don't write music like this anymore😁
Thank you soon much for posting these videos. It brought back wonderful childhood memories.
Played in the pit for a local community theater production. Had such an amazing cast, pit orchestra. Definitely a great experience.
Put your arms around me child
Like when you bumped your shin
Then you'll know I love you now
As I loved you then
Though you maybe trying sometimes
And I'll need you
And you're not there
You know I may get mad
And turn away
But you know that I still care
But you cannot ask for more
Than can come from me
I am older than you are
And one day you'll see
If I lose my patience with you
And I suddenly start to scream
It's only because
I just want you to be
Everything that I see in my dreams
And I'd like to know it's there
The feeling that we have
When you know that you can come
Running to me
Whenever times are bad
Wow thank you, this song just dropped in my spirit and I was just thinking I sure wish I had the lyrics. 👍
That last verse:
Though you’re growing older now
And I’m watching you grow
I know I make you sad sometimes
And see your feelings show
But one day, I’ll look around
Ooh and you will be grown
You’ll be out in the world
Such a pretty little girl
Trying your best to make it out here on your own
And I’ve got to know that it’s there
The feeling we once had
When you know that you
Can come running to me
Whenever times are bad
Beautiful❤
Wow, goosebumps!
Stephanie Mills laid it down . She killed.
+Eric Michael “Em” Steward Yes she did, it was wonderful, it's nothing that woman can't do, she sang it just as good as 'Home'.
+Eric Michael “Em” Steward I think she sang this song better than woman in this recording.
I have to agree with you Matthew. Stephanie maybe old school but her voice is still a sound of beauty. Sorry to go off topic but did you hear Ariana Grande is playing Penny in Hairspray Live.
Yes I did and I love it.
