- You've all been waiting for this! The Chinese La Trax (Traxxas) Teton rip off (Clone) is a favourite of mine, lots of fun for only $40. How does it compare to the real thing! HS 18311 Vs Teton
The Traxxas Teton was bought here:

Wow not only is this guy hating on traxxas but he sucks at driving rcs
Definitely not subscribing
My Son and I had good fun driving the RC’s together. Neither of us disliked the Traxxas 🤟.
Oh....and yeah....definitely don’t Subscribe ❤️
Too bad I subed
Traxxas sucks, lol. Anybody in this hobby knows this

Hey how should I upgrade my Hs-18311. Please make a upgrade video of body and electronics.
Has anybody got links for any upgrade parts for the hs rc car like shocks bigger motor etc thanks
Hi Tomley did you try putting the Traxxas' battery on the Hs18301? Just for checking the performance?
Do the Teton spare parts work in the knockoff?
Great video thanks for posting keep them coming
Certainly a few more to come! Thanks for watching 👍
great comparison bro, cool montage
Cheers Stevo....I like a good montage 😎
It is 4 times better, it is faster, has a speed limited mode for learning, and Traxxas prides themselves on parts availability and keeping the replacement parts for their equipment around. I'm currently looking to get into hobby grade RC and this video has convinced me to look into the Teton.
Yes the Teton is a good truck, certainly worth looking at if you are starting out.
Really amazing cars, man! Fantastic video edition!!!! 😃
Thank you....it was a lot of fun to record! :)
Loving this one thanks for sharing very important information giving thanks blessed love to all knowledge is power hopefully everyone pays attention keep up the good work 🙏🙏🙏🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲💪💪💪
Awesome review buddy. Good to know the differences if thinking of buying one 😉👍
Latrax teton is awesome,got1 for my daughter a couple years ago and got1 myself, turned mine into sst with all metal upgrades where needed and threw brushless in and tbone racing front/rear bumbers..and now its krazy fast and durable:)
Wow...sounds crazy fast! I'll be adding a few extras to both these trucks, and then maybe take them out and do a Brushless Vs Brushless comparison 😃👍Cheers for watching
FYI guys, the metal gears they sell online”traxxas” strip first run, I used original ring gear with updated center diff. I’m going to try ball bearing diff in rear, see if that holds up. That’s for brushless set ups FYI
Cool dude. Interesting stuff
Was loadsa fun to film 👍
I have the hs 18301. He has never driven😭 The transmitter wil not bind with the rc car. Can i reset the transmitter? Or have you a solution?
I had that issue once. I found that removing the batteries from both the car and controller, leaving it a while, then refitting worked. Sometimes you need to leave it all switched on for a good few mins before it will bind
Tomley RC thnx
I found reversing normal procedure and switching on car before transmitter usually works
Hey bro. Hope you are well. Can I fit HS 18311 body on HS 18301? I got hs 18301. Now I want get the HS 18311 body separately.
You may need to change the body posts
Please can you compare e-revo and luctan S912 please please please?
I'd love to do more comparisons, but not sure how far my budget will stretch if I have to buy higher end RC's...not all UA-camrs are rich lol 😎👍
hi is there any good traxxas rustler vxl CLONES out there ????
Not from me... but would like to find a Rustler clone :)
Awesome dude. Great video.
Cheers Brad 👍
The one thing I like on the Mavericks from the get go are the alloy shock it looks so much more decent with them on and that’s where Traxxas have ones again messed up on this one how inexpensive is it to put alloy shit on a car Maverick and FTX have done it for years as standard. Nice compare mate personally I would get the cheap one and mod it myself 💪🏼🔥
could not have said it better myself...40.00 plus mods...end up with something as good or better than Traxxas and pocket the savings...!
Do you think this one is better than the HBX Ratchet? Which one would you get and recommend? Thanks
HBX Ratchet would be my choice
@@TomleyRC can you expand on why would you choose the rachet over the Traxxas clone? Just curious. Thanks
juanmedinar20 Over all the build quality is better, and upgrades/parts are more available. But it is more expensive
Stopped by for the comparison, stayed for the insults. lol Merry Christmas, guys. !! 🍻
Merry Christmas 🎄
so far liking my HS18301, very robust and fun little rc. for 40 USD shipped it is just crazy good.
Can you use latrax parts with the fake?
Cheers for the comparison, Tomley - might be worth grabbing one ,no doubt it's going to spawn a cult following and all the upgrades etc to go with it!
It's good fun, we have 3 of them now. lol 👍
I bought a used Teton, wouldn’t buy this car ever, but it was cheap, it’s now one of my favorite small rc’s fast w/oil filled shocks, send it, acts like a bigger scale car. I did put a dynamite brushless motor built in esc and upgraded diffs! Highly recommend!
love the channel keep up the good work. I know that Traxass makes good RC but for 4 times the money the clone is awesome. Would be nice to see you upgrade it and then test it again. Does the clone have foam inserts? are the shocks able to hold oil? or can you put teton shocks on it as a direct fit? Thanks
Cheers dude. The clone shocks are just cheap friction ones, but they are 60 or 65mm...so lots of options to upgrade. I have one with a brushless motor in now, just need to find a pinion for it thats small enough! No foam inserts in either 👍
@@TomleyRC Thanks for the info!.. Best to you and yours...
Are those shocks oil filled? Or can they be?
No, friction. You have to buy new ones if you want oil
Loved th montage
Yes, my favourite bit....but some people don't like music/montages, I love making them :)
I have a Latrax Teton and it has a special place in my heart because this one got me back in the hobby almost 3 years ago. Yes they are more expensive, yes i know you are not a Traxxas fan. But i love this little devil, went through 5 sets of gears for the 2065 servo before replacing it with a savox, never had problems after that and makes the steering much better. Traxxas now recently have a 2065x with metal gears. And i had a brush come of the motor after driving it for 3 months on nimh. I replaced the motor with a stock one and have been running it ever since on a 2200mah lipo. Although i don't run it every day anymore because i now own more cars it still runs fine and i give it hell waiting in vain for the motor to die. The metal drivecups start to wear now but that's no suprise and big deal. I did some minor tuning and i bought the expensive gtr shocks for my little baby. ( i know.)btw, you got to watch the temparature of the motor running it on lipo during summer and a lot of people have failing motors but this is still the second one and they are only about €12,-. I do like the body of the copy though.
Thanks for the tips dude....and yes, I'm not a big Traxxas fan, but I'm a big fan of Rc.....so if you have fun with it, then that's good for me! It's all about having fun! Thanks for watching 👍
@@TomleyRC I feel the same. And i don't understand why i haven't broken a single plastic driveshaft yet. I will replace them with the aluminium ones when i do, but the are also expensive, i believe about €20,- the pair. That's another €40,- but money makes the world go round. There are a lot of cheaper ones that are just as good.
Just got back into this hobby with such a Chinese clone with my son and now we want more;) As future videos I'd vote to see FTX Outlaw or FTX Carnage and Maverick Strada DT/SC/MT (blue and red) and maybe the Strada XB and FTX Vantage (a brushless vs brushed comparison as it comes out of the box RTR would be nice )
They are certainly good fun. Some good suggestions there....I'll certainly be looking at the Maverick 1/18 MT.
Do Teton bodies fit the knockoff?
Awesome video! Hobby quality is always a better choice. I've modified an old 4WD TRAXXAS 4TEC into a decent RWD RC Drift car, and it was much easier to attach new custom suspension to it because the chassis is made out of higher quality plastic.
Yes, good quality hobby grade materials are always better to work on. Thanks for watching 👍
Well-made video!! Beautiful!!
Thank you Jimmy 👍
For the price difference I would take the Clone great comparison
Yes, or in fact take 4 clones 😎
Great video . I started with hpi and that was the worst $500 mistake i have ever made in my life. Then i got two traxxas trucks used and quit using the hpi for ever. I now own 10 traxxas rc's and love every one of them. They are so durable and so easy to get parts for them.
One thing Traxxas are good for, is parts availability. They have some nice stuff, I'm just not to keen on them as a company. 👍
@@TomleyRC i feel the same about hpi. To each there own i guess its kinda like chevy vs ford. i know there are better out there but associated and losi parts just are not available around here as easily.
Yeah, we all have our favourites, and at the end of the day...it's about having fun 👍
@@TomleyRC yes sir. 👍
How long was the shipping from banggood
TheOnlyS_S It often depends on what shipping you choose. I got this one in about 8-9 business days to the UK as I chose ‘priority shipping’, it can take up to 4-6weeks if you choose standard
@@TomleyRC thanks bud you should compare cheap monster trucks
Love these comparos. Traxxas for me and a rip off for my neice. Thanks for checking them out!
That sounds like a good deal to me! The Teton is really well put together....and the Clone is just pure fun! Cheers for watching 👍
Can i use a 2s-3s lipo on the cheapo? Thats kinda my thing
2s Yes....not sure about a 3s 🤘
What’s the name of the song in the montage?
'Come Alive' - LED Monster. 👍
I bought my Teton a couple of years ago for $149.99 cdn and enjoyed it immediately. I found it to be a surprisingly capable little truck but I wasn't going to settle for that little brushed motor, so I replaced it with a Trackstar 5050kv brushless system. The result was a little underwhelming but I can still tweak the esc settings and hope to find a larger pinion.
Around the time I bought it, I watched a lot of Teton-based videos and noticed that each one produced that same clicking sound. I was glad mine didn't, but eventually it started up too. I wasn't surprised when you said yours started clicking as well. It's just the nature of the beast. But if you do explore and find out what makes that sound please let us know.
Btw, I drove mine on 2s until Venom made a 3s that could fit in the compartment. On 3s, a plastic driveshaft snapped within moments. I replaced all 4 with aluminum (couldn't get steel) axles ($49.99cdn) and turned down the throttle speed on my transmitter because certainly the plastic spur gear will be the next installment in my 'Carnage Box'.
My 30 y.o. son loves the thing so whenever he's here he drives it while I bash it with my Clodbuster - makes for hysterical times where we hang onto each other for support!
Apart from simple lighting, the only upgrade I plan on is silicone fluid in the rear diff so it can pop a few wheelies, hehehe.
The Teton is lots and lots of fun and in my opinion well worth the money, even at $150. U.S.
Sorry for rambling but it's just such a fun little truck to talk about!
Now I have it, I'll certainly be looking at a few cheap options. I'll certainly look at the metal shafts and 3s! 👍
Tomley RC Garage Be careful Phil - I think the stock esc can only handle 2s
Al Jensen ...The clicking is the plastic diff gears slipping, soon to strip. Inspect and replace if damaged, THEN make sure to shim the diffs. Clicking stops.
K S So after 1 battery the Diffs in its way out? 🥴
K S Thank you - I’ll take a look
Can you fit the clone's body and bumper into the teton? That's the only thing I like more than the teton on the clone one
I think you can, but you'll need to make some new holes to mount it. I'll try later..... 👍
Just tried it, posted a picture on my community page. Turn the Teton body mounts 180 degrees and it fits in the original mounting holes 👍🏻
Oh ok perfect, sounds good thanks for trying it out and letting me know
No problem 👍
Better to listen to the beeps than losing a drone,,,,,,I appreciate the beeps as I tend to push past them,,,nice to know. It’s there ,,,,I don’t find it very annoying,,just to concentrate on the drone. ,then the beeping is immaterial.....
errr....?? Beeps? Drone? lol
Where do I get the spares for the Chinese one?
eBay... Banggood... Aliexpress... Amazon 👌
@@TomleyRC do you have a parts catalogue ?
Sweet demo, if you can afford it or find it on sale the Teton is just a better, more upgradable rig. The included battery blows and you will want about 40$ in part upgrades but then you have a hot little number that will be fun in any weather.
Yes, the Teton is a nice truck
The Chinese rip off is actually a copy of the Absima Thunder 1:18 4WD High Speed Sand Buggy 2.4GHz - Red
I watch you channel for everything RC
Cheers dude, appreciate the support 👍
Very nice pictures and Review
Thank you 😎👍
i really like the sound the teton makes
Do like the Rip off even though TRAXXAS is better quality, but with new Shocks and upgrades for about £40 it will be decent , fantastic comparison video and fantastic editing bro 👍😍👍
Cheers Tony, it was good fun to record. And I think I may see if i can get the clone up to the Teton performance. My Son obviously chose the Teton to use for most of the video. "Which one do you want?"....."The fastest one"...... lol 👍
@@TomleyRC Do it. But tell what you used.
I would probably get the cheap Chinese one and upgrade the suspension for oil filled shocks. 🤷🏻♂️
And better tires those are not expensive.
This is a conundrum; La Trax doubtless have to face far higher research and development costs than the manufacturers of the clone...but is it the customer´s duty to subsidise them?
Another way to look at this question might be to establish how much it would cost to bring the clone up to an equivalent standard - once the punter´s paid for the clone itself, oil shocks, a hotter motor (if the combined Rx/ESC can take the heat) and decent tyres, how big is the cash saving over the cost of the La Trax?
Very good points there...and it's a shame that some of these manufacturers (not just Traxxas) have their designs copied. Although, not sure the price tag on the Teton is a reflection of that. I 'may' see if I can get the clone up to a similar standard, and cost it...video it etc... 👍
There is no free lunch.
Great video as always. The Traxxas version is almost 200 bucks here. For that price I can get a Ecx Amp or Redcat racing Blackout or one of the Arrma vehicles in 1/10th scale, so really over priced if you ask me.
Yes, there are quite a few 1/10's you can get for the same price. Not something I'd have bought usually, but wanted to make the video 👍
Traxxas has some adjusting to do!
I love my arrma senton 4x4!
bbb 3 or 6 s?
I have the copy. Never knew it was a copy. 😁
haha...yeah, but they are good aren't they 👍
@@TomleyRC I would probably need to buy more before they get shut down :-P
It is waterproof?
Well have to be honest i thought this would be a neck and neck dead heat, but from my experience of the cheaper brands they just don't last long you want to use them regularly year after year! I know they can be upgraded with cheap decent components and will be just as fast and stable, however like you say the plastic quality is far superior and it doesn't stop there..........im not a traxxas fanboy by far and really don't agree with how they go about their business hence why i haven't bought one for many years and since buying other brands ive found myself fixing/upgrading so much and so regularly the cost has already exceeded my traxxas rc's and still have to wrench on them twice as much even the traxxas rc's are twice the age and get twice as much use 🤔 i love wrenching/tinkering when it suits me but not having to do it after every bash session just to keep it on the road.............😵😨 Admittedly im hard on my rc's maybe a different story if you're just ripping around carparks and football fields every now and again?🤘👍
Yes, some good points there. I'm not a Traxxas fan...but I can't deny, they have a good spares package and "generally" for everyday bashing they seem ok. Over priced certainly in some areas. 👍
Interesting comparison and nice video.
You mentioned where you got the Traxxas and how fast you got it, but I didn't notice you mention how long it took to get the knock off. Was it a week? Two? A month? Also, you mentioned spares are available for the knock off, but do they ship from China too? If they're only a couple days out, that's not so bad, but if they're a week or more out, that would take a ton of the joy of saving money away. Saving money is obviously good, but a toy you can't play with isn't good value no matter how good the price.
I could have missed it, but I don't recall hearing anything about waterproofing. The Traxxas has it. Does the knock off? If you live somewhere that gets a lot of rain or snow that may mean the knock off is shelved for long periods of time. At that point it might as well be considered broken because you can't play with it for fear of it becoming broken.
I see that the cheap car is ~70% as fast, and 100% of the size for ~30% the money, but it seems to be 100% less waterproof, 100% less ball bearing'd and made out of cheaper components everywhere. What company even makes it? Is there a warranty or support after purchase? I don't know about elsewhere in the world, but in the US, Traxxas has excellent customer service and product support. For an advanced hobbyist that's probably not as much of a concern, but small and inexpensive cars like this aren't aimed at advanced hobbyists. They're targeted towards people who might want those resources.
You have some good points there. The problem is, when doing a comparison video, it's easy to get carried away and go over everything in fine detail, and then before you know it....you have a 40min video, which although some might appreciate it, others will get bored very quickly! So i tried to cover some of the main areas. If I was reviewing the Teton, I'd have covered it all.
Waterproof probably would have been good to mention, the knock off will be 'splash' proof, but I'd not be going in any deep puddles etc with it. Shipping from China 'priority' takes up to 2 weeks to the UK, not sure on the US. Standard shipping you could expect double that, sometimes more. I guess that was not mentioned as a high majority of my videos are China branded RC reviews, and I wrongly presume people are aware of the shipping times.
Anyway, I hope that clears a few things up for you....as for warranty support, I'm yet to make any claim from purchases, but I expect it is very minimal or non existent in some cases. Thanks for watching
And
Oh tires don’t come glued on the traxxas. Sometimes spending more at first saves you a lifetime of buying tons of parts. The clicking is the plastic rear diff, I’ll put 5$ on it!
Left that awful ad play there’s a little extra $ 😀 I agree pretty overpriced! I bought mine on a whim. It’s not bad I haven’t been able to break it at the skate park mine is the rally same noodle different plate! The montage was dope!!!👍😀🥓
Cheers dude, yes...it is really nice and seems to be well put together. I'll be taking it to the skate park for sure 👍.....oh and thanks for painfully watching the Ads....although I'm happy people just watch the videos and support the channel. 😎👍

im gonna buy the rip off, save some money, and go from there buying new parts.. its just too funny 😂😂😂😂
just last week, Amazon, picked up a WLtoys A979-A (390 motor) RTR for 30 bucks US.
about same category really, and at that price... sure! found ball bearings for the 4 corners on eBay for cheap (diffs already have them), filled its shocks with oil, good to go. not a big fan of their B versions with the 540 motor in it, TOO overkill with power.
The 540 is way to much for the A979....it's funny, I don't own one, but always see videos of them. Maybe I should get one!
Nice video, great comparison! F.Y.I, Teton is the name of a mountain range in Wyoming, USA. It is pronounced Tea-tawn.
Cheers dude. Nice to know where the name came from. Not sure It'll sound right with my British accent lol.....but we'll give it a go next time 😎👍🇬🇧
S max all day just got one came with 2 bodies li ion battery and charger and it's only 65$
It would be interesting to see how fast the clone is with a 2s lipo. I have one and a 1200mah pack fits nicely and gives a noticeable power difference. Just don't put a 2s on the teton because it will fry the motor. My nephew has one and that is why my brother made it brushless😁 For the money, the clone isn't bad. I already spent $5 and upgraded the axles to steel since one snapped. Other than that I may upgrade to bearings throughout and oil-filled shocks and let my kids learn to drive on it. I just need to slow it down for them or wait til they get the coordination before I let them loose with it in the neighborhood.
I expect a Lipo would give a couple of Km/h increase and the 'punch' would be much better. I am currently converting one of my old clones to Brushless...so it'll be interesting to see how it goes :) Thanks for watching.
I hope that conversion goes well for you. Looks like there will be some custom work to mount the motor and then keep your fingers crossed that it doesn't shred the all plastic diffs. Not many upgrades available unless you can adapt something from the WL Toys A959 and similar.
Darren, I think the motor should mount fine, I got one fitted to the original mount. A bit of cutting for the battery etc... Hopefully have it running soon :)
Can you put kid mode for the Chinese one to show it down a bit? Need for young kids
Interested in how many of the Teton parts are interchangable on the clone model, as the arw plenty of aluminum parts for the Teton. The rear lower suspension arms look close to identical. The chassis of the hs looks similar to a px toys 9302 m-us.gearbest.com/rc-cars/pp_614297.html. You can tell in the speed run the Teton has a much lower turn motor just by the sound...hope for a tear down and comparison of parts. Ive been wanting a teton but not really a fan of RTR setups id prefer to build a lower end clone for less.
I may need to tear it down anyway...it's making a bit of a 'clicking' sound. 👍
Look Awesome for the Price
Currently half way through a Brushless conversion 👍
Traxxas is worth more because in addition to the car being better they have customer support and if it doesn't work out of the box they will send you a new part for free. Meanwhile with cheapo clones if it doesn't work out of the box your screwed and that's your problem.
Yeah, there is the aftercare. Although the Teton's Diff seems to be slipping/clicking now after that run...and the clone is still going strong. Do Traxxas support the LaTrax the same?...I've not looked in to it.
@@TomleyRC yes they do, call them and they have the BEST CUSTOMER SUPPORT EVER. they will help you out with it, idk how long the warranty is if it's under warranty they will send it to you free if not you'll have to buy a new part with your own money

Yeah, I can't always get the music right :)
Hi guys. I started a FB group for HS Ho Speed trucks. Looking for member/owners. We can share our upgrade ideas. It's fine to post other budget brands too. Just search HS RC. Thanks
The price really explains the quality of those two
Yes, the Teton is well built...but at 4x the price....I'm not sure. I'm going to get the 1/18 Maverick, which is about 3/4's of the price, and see how it fairs.
Hi tg some of them zd racing trucks are pretty good 1/10 scale just over a £100
Yes, there are some good 1/10 trucks in the same price range as the Teton. I'd say it should be closer to the £80 really.
@@TomleyRC maybe even less than that really

Sorry dude...i'm not sure if there was a comment or reply missing? I'm not sure what you are referencing to from this video 👍
Really good comparison. I think that would be a great follow up video, getting the copy up to the traxxas spec. I think a set of oil filled shocks and a 7.4v battery and you'll almost be there!😎 May be some better rubber too? Great montage by the way. Made me want to buy one, looked great fun. 😄
Cheers dude... thanks for the support. Yes I'll be adding a few extras for as little cost as possible, and seeing how that compares. Lipo + motor maybe with oil filled shocks. 👍
THERE IS NO COMPARISON... One is hobby grade, the other is a toystore toy.
Like I mention in the video, the Teton is 'more' hobby grade as far as the electronics go, but essentially, if you can buy replacement parts, and take it apart etc... I class it as hobby grade. The Chinese one is not the best in terms of quality, but it far out weighs a 'toystore toy'. 👍
Both cars seemed pretty difficult to keep in a straight line on the speed runs!!!
Finally! New Teton (tee-tawn) content on UA-cam! Thank you. Can’t wait for more. Subscribed.
