I bought it after I saw this video 5 years ago, must say, it hooked me onto the hobby, today I am upgrading to a 1/10 scaler, this little fellow has taught me a lot and it will always have a special place in my heart. When I saw the video in my recommended today, I had to write this comment. Love the content
That's awesome to hear! :)
Thanks to this video, I will be buying this for my son's birthday in a couple weeks. I appreciate your honesty and the fact that your videos seem normal, instead of being way over-produced which seems to be the trend more and more. Keep doing what you do, I'm sure my kids will love his gift.
"faster then the slower ones"😂❤
lol, this guy needs to stop making videos..
Another well done review Ryan. Of all the vehicles of this size that you've tested, this one seemed the most competent. I never saw it flip over or get totally stuck.
Yet I have to agree that it's inexcusable to not include a wall charger.
Thanks for your review.
i run my trucks on my gravel driveway and in the grass so i always appreciate it when you hit the gravel. thanks for the awesome vids, happy new year!
Thanks, and Happy New Year to you too! :)
Pretty cool RC trucks :)
It's nice to see you have some diversity with your RC hobby!
Happy weekend
Nice little RC! Like how it look!
So far I've e watched every flyin Ryan videos I'm so happy 😄
supreme rc Awesome! :)
Came back to this video after owning one of these. They are pretty good. My friend sold me his Stampede 4x4 for free and now I use that on the daily
A backwards 180 turn I think is called a J-Turn. Also that clicking noise was with my Dromida Dt4.18 and I just ran it at full speed off the ground until it stopped.
I love this car (MONSTER TRUCK) too!!! good video
Great review thanks, enjoy your videos! definitely getting into 1/18th
Thanks, I'm glad you like them! :)
Ryan, you can put a lipo on there and it goes a lot faster than the standard battery.
Why is RC so addicting I just bought a raptor & Bigfoot this month and now I want this guy here
The smaller scale 4x4s often have that clicking under heavy acceleration, and such. The differentials need to be shimmed, cause they don't make perfect contact with the drive gear.
Dude I love your videos keep doing the awesome work
THERESA LAFOND Thanks! :D
Love the honest review subscribing for more my RC friend 🤙
that's a nice starter for people new to the hobby nice vid also
Wonder if you would respond after 4 years.
Oh! I know how to get your attention.
*Its youre not You're
i have the latrax 1/18 scale sst and love it! alot of fun for the size!!
can u do a vid on or in deep snow and mud and water
I broke my front and rear bulkhead 5 mins out the box. That being said this truck is amazingly fun. Like beyond my wildest expectations. It kicks ass in skateparks.
Going with that it is not my first rc. I had a kyosho usa1 as my first truck when i was way to you g to have an rc of that complicated caliber. I then fell out of the hobby till i was in my 20’s and got a traxxas stampede that to this day is not a stampede anymore. Its a hybrid indestructable beast that well.. still destroy. I was a little ashamed at how fast i broke this truck and am searching for aluminum upgrade bulkheads. But damn this truck is sooooo fun
I see what you mean with the automotive charger. I got a Traxxas Stampede for Christmas, and wanted to go run it then saw the charger... There was lots of snow so of course i didnt to go outside just to charge my truck... But now i have a wall charger
Dont worry about the clicking noise get a toothpick/needle and clean out the pinion gear and spur gear near the motor the noise is caused by rocks getting jammed in the gears between the spur and pinion gears ive owned small traxxas electric cars for awhile and that tends to happen a lot
Hello, would this be a better option as opposed to the Redcat 1/18 Volcano? Thx
great video liked how you described it and went through it and all. :)
+Samson Huntt Thanks! :)
had the same thing happened to mine a small piece of metal got in the spur gear flicked it out its somewhat sealed so im guessing it was in there from factory after that no problem
Michael Ray
When I first got mine it started clicking as well, I ignored it like you but eventually the back wheels wouldn't even turn. Its the spider gears in the differential were breaking! These things are so tiny and are made out of plastic so you would expect it. Only if they made the diffs metal :(
Thanks for the info , I think you can run a 2 cell lipo in it, Just a we bit faster .
I thing that clicking noise was a leaf getting stuck in either the wheel hub or the gears.
I bought one of this model today and I had the problem of the battery charger, I can not find anywhere but on the site have any tips of what I can do? I really like your videos.
Ryan, excellent review of a nicely made and fun truck. I miss your comments on yaw rate and lights out flying to see the LEDs, though. Here is a challenge for you: Traxxas has brushless upgrades for all of their RC trucks I've ever seen (I own a few). How 'bout a review of a brushless upgrade on this truck? That would make it fly!
351mrclean Air vehicle reviews will be back soon. I haven't seen a brushless upgrade for this truck. Maybe Traxxas does that will actual Traxxas models, but I don't think they've done it for the LaTrax line.
Good for grass and rock (not pea gravel, like regular rocks)?
Also, the esc has a lipo cutoff IIRC so you could use one of your existing 2s lipo's and charger. Not sure if the motor is up to the task though. I would say not.
MrBonger88 Yeah, I'd worry about running a LiPo in it, at least on a regular basis.
Nice review! Vs ecx torment and ecx roost? Most durable rc car? Durable esc? Congratulations!
I got a 1/16 Traxxas Slash and it came with the same type car charger. It only takes about 20 minutes to charge the NIMH batteries that come with the Slash and it's nice you can charge in you car. However, having to spend an extra $20 so I can charge with a wall outlet was pretty annoying.
Weird, my Teton came with a wall charger and traxxas plugs
It looks like he did this video 4 years ago and they changed the charger to an AC one
These are the much older ones
Do you have issues with dirt and small rocks getting in the pinion gear?
Flyin' Ryan RC You might consider a basic GPS speed app for your cell phone just so you can get a number associated with the topic of speed. I used one on my phone called Speedview.
Would this be a good starter for my 7 year old daughter?
I have a question if you have a hobby town near you should do a review on a helion
Damn ryan u are still going strong !!! How do u have room for all this stuff lol good review as always
Ben Pyka I'm actually pretty much out of room, and have been frantically trying to give away parts of my collection to friends and family. :)
Like a baby summit
David Mondejar it's a baby telluride
The High Life but the telluride sucks but this doesn't so it's a mini don't know
It is I have a a Teton 2
hypnosins it is a summit
Hello i just received my MJX X600 and i found that my propeller screws that keep the prop on were stripped and had no thread on them do you know anywhere i can get more screws that will keep the prop on ? Thanks
Sorry to bother you but do you know how many amps is the esc?
Could my 5 year old drive this? Can it be used indoors?
the Teton is basically a 1/18 scale version of traxxases SUV version of their stampede called the telluride
latrax teton or a hpi mini recon ?
Does anyone know if the newer Tetons come with metal Diff gears?
is it a ec3 plug for the battery ?
This little truck jumps really well.Crazy how stable it is in the air. I've also heard that clicking in other Teton's. Same clicking in Aussie RC PLayground speedweek video
Hey Ryan its good to see you are reviewing hobby grade stuff. A few months back you reviewed a ft009 boat , any more boat reviews coming soon ?
vicsaggu I review a ton of hobby grade stuff. And yes, more boats coming soon. :)
i really couldn't decide between the ecx ruckus 1/18 & the teton.. im swayed by the teton as it appears to have a far better build quality? whats your advice Flyin Ryan?
I wouldn't say that the Teton appears "far better" build quality, but I do think I liked the Teton overall better. The Ruckus sort of seemed like it might be more durable, but I really don't know.
i have a latrax sst i have broke a shock had 2 problems with the sper gear and a drive shaft has broken
cool sounds like fun Ryan im going to frys to pick up a litehawk boost for a 100 bucks.will keep you posted
Hey Flyin,
Post a video of the LaTrax - Teton with the ESC in Training Mode... :O)
Thabks
wich is better this ot sst rcr scale stadium?
Ryan do a review on the cheerson cx-20
markybyeah I will be. I have already filmed the table-top review, but need some decent weather in order to get the flight video done. The weather has been awful though... windy and rainy every weekend (and that's my only chance for filming).
I just got the latrax rally today and I've been fiddling with it and this is sad but how do you turn on the truck its self(I'm to lazy to read the manual)
Cody Pederson It would've taken you less time to read the manual than it did for you to find my video and ask that question. Sorry, but I won't waste my time helping someone who tells me they won't spend their own time trying to answer their own question. Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime. ...I'm teaching you how to fish. :)
Nice review! I went and bought one and i am very happy with it. But my motor lost a lot of power after 20-30 packs, have to buy another one again. BTW what hobbygrade charger are you using?
I have a few chargers, but my main ones are the Dynamite Passport Pro, which I have a review of, and I recently got an iMax B6 Mini, which is pretty convenient to use. :)
Thanks for the video Ryan
Glad you liked it! :)
Great review again sir! And yeah.. I do think for the $140 you do get a product that has more design-work in it (compared to previous cars you reviewed)
Hmm 'stop in their trax' :D Pun intended? But yeah.. that charger huh.. weird choice..
Cheers and have a good weekend!
DutchRC ADVENTURES Hahaha, it was not an intentional pun, but saying "LaTrax" may have put the word in my head. :)
We all stray off track now and again while shooting video's ;) ghehe
great video. Especially for someone who's looking to get into rc cars.
love the waterproof feature which makes it all seasonal.
Just bought a toy grade (gravity dune blaster) on sale for $40 regular $100. So I thought it was worth it as hobby grade ones always seemed out of my price range for what I want it for. However, this one is affordable so I may try it out.
cheers....subbed.
Glad you found my review helpful! :) I have reviews of quite a few affordable models, if you want to browse through my playlists and see what catches your eye. If you're willing to buy from Chinese stores, you can actually get some pretty good RCs for very reasonable prices.
Flyin' Ryan RC I use those sites quite a bit (dhgate, aliexpress, dealextreme etc. ) but I always thought they were cheap dollar store cars. Lmao
Being that this is an entry level model for the hobby grade category, would you consider it to be less modifiable/upgradable?
e.g, could I get a brushless motor for it and a higher cell battery?.....if that makes sense. (still learning the nitty gritty lol)
I'm not sure if there are brushless upgrades for this one or not. But, you can pretty much always do that sort of stuff if you are crafty enough, and know how to build the stuff yourself. But as far as LaTrax-branded upgrades, that you can easily just install, I don't think they have anything like that for this one. You also have to consider that making upgrades like that also leads to more broken parts, so you'd also likely be looking at making a lot of metal part upgrades in order to handle the increased speed and power. The way I see it, the effort isn't worth it, so I'd just suggest getting a model that is brushless right out of the box when you're ready for that step. As for stores, Banngood.com and GearBest.com are my main go-to stores for Chinese RCs, and you can get everything from dollar store toy-grade level stuff, to full-on hobby-grade RCs.
Check out my review of the Dromida MT4.18 BL for a 1:18 scale monster truck that is brushless right out of the box. That thing is a speed demon!
Flyin' Ryan RC yes theee is i have one for mine makes it go 40km
Going to say tiny pebble in the spur gear, if thats the case pretty annoying if it is sealed up and requires major disassembly. I know it is a different car but its bigger brother Slash is prone to that. Otherwise cute little car and great review as always.
I have a question, would this car go faster with NiMH battery than 2cell Lipo? My hobby shop said it would go faster with nimh
No that's not true at all. The LiPo has a faster output rate and will always be faster than NiMH. It is a bit worrying that your hobby shop is giving such incorrect information. heh
I have one. Love it. I run on 2 cell with the replacement motor from team associated. I hear ya about the stupid included charger. Hate it. I have no idea what Traxxas was thinking. The only thing I don't like its the steering. Seems to bump around a lot and randomly change direction. Good job bro!
Matthew Fant Hey bud! Hmm, I didn't have that steering issue with this one, that I noticed anyway. But I did have that issue with my Dromida DB4.18.
It's a possibility they fixed it on this later model. I bought it right when it came out. And shockingly, this vehicle, and my latrax alias, are the two vehicles, which lit my love and obsession of rc ablaze again. 11+ later, lol.
Cool review and I agree they are a fun little RC Truck I love my Teton, it's strange mine came with a wall charger and yours didn't. Anyhows I enjoyed that thanks for sharing.
Shayen Momot It did!? Weird. Where did you buy it, and do you recall for how much?
I got mine here in Australia I have owned it now for at least a year so I payed around $200 Australian, also I have seen other reviews of the Teton and they also had the wall charger that's why I said it was strange you got that charger.
Shayen Momot Interesting. Maybe they changed the charger in newer production runs, to save a few bucks. :/
Today I got one in the blue version for Christmas. Love the Truck! Although a little plastic piece did break of the suspension, the truck is amazing! Bashed it 4 times in the snow today and handled it and jumps with ease. Battery does not last long but I think its because the cold. Can anyone tell me a good up gradable battery for this truck? Thanks :)
Un Thinkable Gamin i've had mine for a while i got a bushless engine for it and it goes 40mph the stock is 20mph
Have to be prepared to upgrade this thing especially the plastic differential gears you will burn through them like crazy. Also mine came with a wall plug charger not a car charger.
Lunchbiz there are steel differentials front and back
Do a review on the losi micro rally
Does it have steel planerary gear?
My dromida monster truck is awesome it has 1/16 scale buggy springs
How long is its autonomy please ?
hi is it better than rustler.
You ever figure out what the clicking was and how was it remedied?
Nope, I actually haven't had the chance to run this again since filming the review.
did u ever figure out what the noise was?
The only problem I've had with mine is the servo motor other than that i run it into walls ALL the time and its fine.
mac witt i ride my completely under water 😂😂
on the stock motor and esc can u run lipo safely and whats the limit for c rating?
+0clutch0 thinking this one www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXBPGV&P=7
Can someone tell me how slow I can set the speed to? I want to get this for my son and get him into RC but he'll pull the trigger and drive this straight I to a wall!
I saw another review that said 50 percent power. I actually bought the Summit because it has the two gears with the lower gear for him. Bought this for my wife and in the house it will be on the 50 percent power setting.
its a pretty cool RC for sure !!
that sound is probably your spur gear take a small flat head screw driver and slide back and forth between the groves and you'll probably see a rough spot just use the screw driver to smoother out of happens to me all the time with the plastic ones
Please respond how do you charge you car with the stock charger
Plug it into a car cigarette lighter power port.
Can you put any bigger tires on the LaTrax 1/18 4x4 ?? :)
I have no idea.
Very cute truck!
Does anyone know why when I plug my charger into my source that the charger just stays blinking red instead of turning green.
With my latrax rally I had the same problem. What I did was unplug the battery and the wall plug and plug it into the wall first than plug in the battery. P.S. Nice name! Lol
maybe you've thrown a drive shaft slightly out of sync?
Can you do a review on the team associated mini rival 1/18 scale
No, unfortunately that looks like a pretty old model, so it wouldn't make for a very popular review at this point, and it doesn't seem to be readily available for purchase.
Hi mate...great video....this one or maverick ion Mt....both very similar....your opinion?
I am not familiar with the Maverick, so I can't say.
thay are not glued from the factory
Hey bro im from india kerala BUT THIS RC CAR NOT AVAILABLE INDIA WHAT DO I LL BUY THIS CAR IN INDIA KERALA PLEASE REPLY BROTHER
Hey Ryan! are you ever gonna do a bigger car? or an fpv build would be awesome to see.
Arjen Hartink Possibly a bigger car, but not like an FPV build. I am a reviewer, so I try to stick to things that *need* reviews, which is usually the cheaper RTR/RTF stuff. Builds don't make for good reviews, as the builder has a lot to do with the quality of the build. And I hate building RCs. I did it once when I was younger and never want to do it again. heh
Hello! Are you planning order and reviev cheerson cx-20?
TomekONY Yep. Just need to get some decent weather to film the flight. :)
Just purchased one for my one of my little daughters..Tower hobbies..$129.00 then used a $20 reward coupon figured cant go wrong for $110. Once its here I'm going to look into doing a battery swap with one with a traxxas ID conector out that will work with the traxxas e-z charger..is this a option and which non lipo would you recommend..I would also have to switch out the male clip on the ESC as well or get a adaptor? Never seen one hands on yet..
Instead of doing all that work, why not just buy the wall adapter for the charger for the battery it comes with? traxxas.com/products/parts/2976
Got the truck today. You hit the nail on the head why bother doing all that work just get the wall charger after looking it over. I have attendancy to want to over do things :-).. My twin girls (5yrs) can't wait to get their hands on their Teton and their new JDX 806. Had to charge battery in in my driveway for tonight lol..Thanks for the advice.
Ryan do u recommend this car if you don’t mind the charger
Yeah, it's good for an entry-level vehicle. It's not super fast or super durable, but it's good for the price.
Have you heard about the syma s36G 3 channel rc helicopter?
Dale Jr. 88 Fan Yep. I believe that is basically the same as the S107G, but with 2.4ghz radio, instead of infrared.
hey Ryan which one of your micro rc cars do enjoy the most
+Aaron Mcclure I think the Redcat Volcano seems to have the best mix of speed, durability, and price. Though, I am currently testing the Dromida MT4.18BL (brushless), and that thing is a beast!
Did the teton end up being okay? I now have that same problem, with the clicking sound. Not sure if I should keep driving it or not. Help someone?
Drive it till it breaks, then fix it.
Zach Milan there might be something stuck between the spur and pinion gears
yo ryan plz can you do a review on the maisto 3xl as i have one and again i really want to c your thoughts.i know you ve done a micro crawler but the maisto is amazing for its price!
+David Pritchard I will try to keep my eye out for one next time I'm in the toy store, and will consider it. :) Winter is here now though, so I will probably have to wait until after winter, since I wouldn't want to drive that in the snow.
That same charger came with my slash 4x4 ultimate and I didn't have a connector for my hobby charger it was very disappointing
Odd, I bought the same exact model and it had a wall charger. Must be a version upgrade I got.
Hey Ryan...Iam a great fan of urs and I love watching ur videos...😊
BTW...can u tell me which one is better - LaTrax Teton or ECX Ruckus 4WD??
They are pretty comparable. I think the Teton is a bit faster, but the Ruckus seems like it may be a bit more durable.
+Flyin' Ryan RC Thank u so much....
I have a question, so in the overview is it worth buying or should I save up for the slash 220 dollars
Only you can decide what is worth buying. I try to provide enough info in my review for you to be able to make that decision for yourself. :)
Flyin' Ryan RC thanks for replying I think I will go with slash 2wd 205 dollars rc car thanks
