    This is the best solution I found to the reduced resolution that Cricut Design Space is doing to my artwork, thank you, thank you!!! I'm printing it through Photoshop and Pages at the same time, I'm crazy picky about the quality, so I try to find best solutions. Don't give up!

    I’m confused about the registration marks. You mentioned Cricut uses the squares to know where the edge of the paper is? But the squares aren’t actually printed in color when you print out the full page and before you insert it into the machine, isn’t it already in place between the tape? So the Cricut will cut the same spot regardless if you had the registration squares? I think I’m missing something

    Great video! However, I'm having a big problem with lining up my paper to the Cricut machine. I did everything in your video and when I put the paper on my mat and go to cut, the alignment of the cut is WAY off. I noticed I still have small gaps within my printers tape, but no matter what, I only get one good cut and the rest are super off. Any tips for this?

    This was a good video for those who prefer doing stickers with an offset white border. I like my stickers without such a border. And while the border does give you a bit of leeway in how well the Cricut cuts the pre-printed images, I still like only printing and cutting my images with no borders. For such images, I have had not as good results of the cutting of the images as you go further down the sheet, they are a bit more off. So for me personally, I will use the limitations of the printable area allowance of Design Space and fit as many stickers as I can within the 6.75 x 9.25 inch limitation. My stickers come out beautifully cut.

    THANK YOU SO MUCH!
    Last night i was crying and regretting that i got cricut.
    I took me a few hours to create the sticker using this method. I'm using inkscape, so i had to save the png in another software and convert to jpeg to print etc.
    My printer wouldn't print without borders, a total chaos. But I've opened the file as jpeg in adobe and viola! After almost 30 tries, I've found the correct size to print for my cricut to cut.
    Thankyou once again! You gave me so much hope.. thanks for sharing!! ❤❤❤

    I have seen a ton of videos about this but there is one area no one has touched on. The exact print settings. For me the registration marks are never exactly at the edge of the paper there's always white space between the registration marks and the edge of the paper. If I choose the borderless setting it blows up the image and cuts a few mm off the registration marks. Either way, my cuts will be offset. I'm at a loss. Any tips for me?

      What I end up doing is that I’ll print with the squares as black and then trim the top and left edge up to the edge of the squares. Then I’ll use a ruler to measure the width and length of the page from one edge of the square to the other edge.
      Using those new measurements I’ll adjust my cut file size in cricut instead of doing 8.5x11.
      Then I do the same thing and just align the now trimmed page to the top and left of the masking tape square.

    I know this post is a year or so old, but it's def helpful thus far. I've always cut stickers on my own and found the silhouettes and cricut waste SO much vinyl...and that's expensive. I tried the set up twice now, and in the second time, after a calibration, I found the initial cutting of the tape to be so crooked and off. I did it a second time (to see if it would hit the tape in the same spot) and it was off center from that! Do I need to get the tape EXACTLY on those lines, or maybe the glossiness of this tape is throwing it off?

    • @JessicaLynnIllustration
      @JessicaLynnIllustration  3 роки тому +2

      you're welcome! I did not have to choose "borderless" as my printer printed right to the edge automatically. You may need to test this on your own printer first, by making the 4 white squares in each corner black to see if it prints right to edge of the paper or not. If it does you are all set. If it does not your cuts would be off and you might need to google your printer model and how to print "borderless" or remove any kind of margin the printer is adding. Hope that helps.

      Sorry everyone's set up is different so it's hard to help or to narrow down the where the issue is stemming from. Perhaps do some testing with your printer. Otherwise the machine isn't perfect and even though I can get this to work for me it doesn't always cut 100% correct either and unfortunately we can't control that.

      I use the Epson ET-7700 printer and I don't have this issue, but each printer is different. Even when your settings are all correct in the document itself, you may still find that your document won't print border-free. That's usually because the printer driver itself has default borders set for each document, and until they're changed your document will print with a border or your program will tell you that you're trying to print a document that's too large for the page. You can try to fix it by opening "Devices and Printers" from your startup menu, then right-click on the icon for your printer. Choose "Printing Preferences" from the pop-up menu, then look at the setup options your print driver provides. Usually, there will be one called "Layout" or "Page Layout." Once you've clicked "Layout," you should have the option to manually set your margins to zero. For some printers, you may need to dig down another level and find an "Advanced Setup" screen to get to those settings. Newer printers, especially if they're photo-oriented, should have an explicit setting for borderless printing. If that doesn't work you might just have to google your specific printer model and how to remove the border. Hope that helps some.

      @@EricMBoyd that didn't work for me. I have your videos saved as well as these for reference. Used Photoshop to print, printed without borderless, center box was checked, page size was 8.5 x 11 at 100%. Five test prints later, and things are still misaligned horribly. I've tried the tape margin hack Jessica suggested. That didn't work either. Obviously there is a fix - you guys have it working fine. But even following the exact steps doesn't produce the same results.

      In order for this particular process to work you need a program that has layers and the ability to save as .png (transparent). I'm not familiar enough with Canva to know if it has those features and Design Space does not have the ability to save as a .png. There is a free program called FireAlpaca that does have these features and I made a video overview about it if you are interested: ua-cam.com/video/rtjTfG4RCkg/v-deo.html

    This is a great video. I’ll be doing something similar with 12x12 to get more use out of my foil transfer sheets. I didn’t see you use the registration marks tho. Did they do anything? How did you use them when lining up in DS?

    • @JessicaLynnIllustration
      @JessicaLynnIllustration  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you! The registration marks are white so nothing will be printed, but they do get exported into Design Space along with the "cut lines" in the .png file. The registration marks serve no purpose in DS you have to enter the measurements manually like I show in the video. They are probably not really needed but because they are cut first I can tell right away if my Cricut cuts are going to be off or not. This gives me the chance to stop the Cricut right away, unload the mat, do some calibration tests, then reload the mat and start the cut again.

    Hi Jessica! This was extremely helpful & confirmed what I was thinking as to what was happening. I've been in the print business for 20 years, & I feel like a rookie with this machine! I do have a question. I'm using Illustrator & am setting up registrations in each of the corners. I'm setting everything up to 0,0 in Design Space, but I'm still a little off. At least, with using your tutorials, I'm a lot closer than what I was. I was wondering how off-setting you are using for your cuts? Also, with elements that require a bleed, how much bleed do you recommend? Thanks in advance.

      Hi Valerie - did you resolve this issue? We are using Illustrator too and have a similar problem even after calibrating the Maker 3 correctly. • @valeriebliss7978
      @valeriebliss7978 2 роки тому

      @@robertvanriet2178 No. I never figured it out. I finally gave up & just started using Cricut's layout specifications with ensuring everything is staying within the 6.75"X9.25" design space & then choosing the Print then Cut option when importing the PNG file. After I design in Illustrator, I do take the AI file & place it in a template I created in PSD. I export out my PNG file from there. I found that AI creates too small of a file when exporting to PNG. PSD creates a very large PNG file, so it can be shrunken down when brought into Design Space. I hope this helps.

    • @JessicaLynnIllustration
      @JessicaLynnIllustration  2 роки тому

      It's a print then cut hack because when you use the "print then cut" feature from inside the cricut software it creates a large black border for the machine to know where to cut your object thus wasting a lot of paper when you could fit more objects on it (if the border wasn't there). I hope that makes sense.

      I'm sorry this is happening - it's so frustrating because it can be a number of things. You could do a couple recalibration tests on your Cricut. You could make sure both your DesignSpace software and Cricut Firmware are up to date by going to the menu in the upper left hand corner. It could be the printer adding a tiny border or margin when it prints - I've made several comments about checking this if you scroll through them for more info. Hope that helps some.

    I've tried to follow all these steps exactly (part 1 & 2) but I'm having problems getting my cuts to align with my print. I've watched your videos 4 times and I'm pretty sure there are no steps I've done wrong. I've tried a calibration of the cricut but it is still misaligned. The only thing I have done different is making the paper size 210mm x 297mm on both the print and cut as this is the size of paper I have in the UK. Any ideas as to why my sticker cuts don't fully align with my sticker prints?

    • @JessicaLynnIllustration
      @JessicaLynnIllustration  3 роки тому

      I'm thinking that if everything else is correct it's possible it could be your printer. I had another comment where someone's know that their printer is printing an 1/8" or 3.175mm border, which is tiny but definitely a reason to throw off alignments. A lot of home printers have this as a default setting, where photo/art printers don't so you could print right to the edge. You can first check to see if your printer has a "borderless" option in the settings when you go to print. If not, then you might have to go through the Control Panel, Devices & Printers, then right-click on the icon of your printer. Choose "Printing Preferences" from the pop-up menu, then look at the setup options. Usually, there will be one called "Layout" or "Page Layout." Once you've clicked "Layout," you should have the option to manually set your margins to zero. For some printers, you may need to dig down another level and find an "Advanced Setup" screen to get to those settings. If that doesn't work you might just have to google your specific printer model and how to remove the border. Hope that helps some.

      @robgeorgesonphotography 3 роки тому +1

      @@JessicaLynnIllustration the printer may have a very slight alignment issue but even the white squares in each corner aren't being cut accurately which obviously isn't a printer issue as the white squares don't actually get printed on the white paper. It's very confusing.

    • @JessicaLynnIllustration
      @JessicaLynnIllustration  3 роки тому

      @@robgeorgesonphotography I understand. To test the printer, you could make the squares black and just print the squares (nothing else) on regular copy paper to see if they are actually printing right to the edge. If they are slightly inside, then that means your designs will also be slightly off. If it's the Cricut , there are times where I have done multiple calibration tests, and checked for a firmware update. You could also try plugging the Cricut in via USB if you are using the WiFi to see if that makes any difference. The Cricuts are definitely finnicky and don't always cut perfect.
