You are such an amazing teacher! I've spent the last week searching online trying to figure out how to layer and you spell it out, step by step and show exactly what and how you are doing it! Thank you for such a good demonstration.
Kayla I tried watching this when I first got my Cricut a year ago. I got lost within the first few minutes and walked away. Today I decided to watch and walk through it with you. How much easier it was this time compared to the last. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this.
This is freaking awesome. I needed this so much!!! I am going to be sitting on pins and needles waiting on the 2nd video showing how you cut and put it together. I'm a total newbie and I don't really comment but I loved this so much.
I just ordered a Cricut Maker that is to be delivered on Friday and I've been marathon watching videos to learn all that I can. It occurred to me today that I had NO CLUE how to create layers! Then I found your video and now I feel better prepared to attempt this. Your video is awesome and very informative. Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge with us!!
Kayla, you are my go-to now anytime I’m stuck! I did my first layered vinyl for a car decal and could have used this info. It was only two colors but I couldn’t figure out how to do this so I printed each one fully and weeded out the parts I didn’t need. This would have made it so much easier. Rather than deciding no more layering I now know I can do harder things!! Thank you! You and your channel rock!!!
You have now idea how helpful this video is. I struggled for a week trying to accomplish what you have achieved here, even talking with Cricut CSR several times, but no final results. Now I am able todo what I wanted to do by watching and following your video. My Cricut software is a little different than yours (purchase Jan 2022) and some of the controls such as zoom, etc., are in different locations, but easy enough to find. Thank you, Thank you!
I love your videos and they help so much! I wonder if design space has changed since this video was made? I can't do the whole "select image type" or go through the process of taking away all the color. Argh. Any recs on an updated video with the most recent versions of design space?
This is SO EASY TO FOLLOW!!!! I saw a ridiculous step by step blog tutorial that said to use triangles or stars and whatnot and it confused me so much. This is so much easier. Thank you for uploading this.
quiero darte las gracias por tomar de tu tiempo para hacer este video... wow llevo ya casi one year buscando que se me explicara como hacer layers... y por fin lo entendi con tu video... muchas gracias Kayla de verdad!!! Dios te bendiga!
I am a newbie to Cricut Explore Air 2. I have NEVER used a cutting machine until 2 weeks ago. I first learned how to make paper flowers (I'm still practicing this), but wanted to move on to using vinyl. I attempted to make a Grinch face and put it on the bottom side (facing up) of a glass plate. It only involved the black outline, some white around his hat and red for the hat. (I thought was VERY simple, but that turned into a DISASTER and looks absolutely horrible! I came across your video and GAME CHANGER!!! This is AN AMAZING video!!! Thank you for sharing!
I am so amazed at how much more I understand my cricut now that I have found your videos! And I've had it for 3 years! LOL 😂 Thank you so much for sharing your creativity. I am forever indebted to my sister for introducing me to your channel. ❤️
I seriously have not tried layering because I did not have the first clue on how to start it! This video is sooo helpful and extremely informative. Thank You for sharing!
Your tutorial, hands down, is the easiest one to follow for me. I am new to Cricut and I was about to give up after watching up to 100 videos in as many as 2 weeks. I actually fell upon your tutorial while watching a food video lol Thank you so much for having patience to go thru the little things other's leave out.
Thank you so much for this amazing tutorial! I was a bit intimidated to try this at first, But it felt easier after watching your video and having it available to go back and reference along the way! Thanks a million!!!!
Thank you so much !!!! I have been struggling since before Christmas to try and figure this out. I followed step by step the little mermaid and was able to do it. I just sat there staring at it, like I did it !!. Now to watch and follow your next one of how to cut and put together. please keep doing instructional videos, I have sat for months stuck and although I have watched others, you way of explaining and showing is what made me understand. thank you for really showing me how to do this and understand a bit more and for saving me more time trying to research it and possibably giving up.
OMG - after trying for days to do a simple layer - I watched this video multiple times and did a walk through! What do you know it worked perfectly!!! Thank you. Awesome job
You are AMAZING!!! Thank you so much for this tutorial. I was pulling my hair trying to turn my cousin's logo into multiple layers so I could use different colored vinyl. You saved me!!!!
💜 Fantastic tutorial!! This is what all UA-cam tutorials should be, all the important details demonstrated and described perfectly. Also not a lot of extra unrelated chatter, which I find distracting when I’m trying to learn something. Subscribed 🍻
I am BRAND NEW----24 hours new.. I am struggling just learning the basics. This was GREAT and so easy to follow! The husband bought me the Maker and its so overwhelming! Thank you again making these so easy to follow
Your tutorial is fantastic!!! I am not near proficient with Cricut but have the desire to make things. I have watched and read about layering/slicing and couldn't get it. You made so much sense and were easy to follow!! Now, to cut it all with correct colors and iron on!! Thank you!
This was so easy to follow along with, thanks. I saw so many others where they use a different program which is time consuming because I don’t know how to use it. You utilize the Cricut program for everything 😍😍😍😍😍
Oh my this was a great help. I had never layer before because I was always scared. And didn't know really how? You done an amazing job on explaining how to do this I am now excited to try. Thank you so much for showing us how it's done.
As someone who does not have the ability to explain things very well, I truly appreciate your ability to teach so concisely and effortlessly! Thank you!!
Very descriptive and knowledgeable! I was just using the complex method and was having a pain with the eyes in my recent project but I’m glad to have found your channel with great tricks😭👏🏽! Thank you for the advice and knowledge 😁
I agree, total newbie here. But this was outstanding and so very clear. I have found a horse image on facebook. Saved it, added it to Cricut design space, made it an SVG and resized for my wee cricut. Then cut out 2 versions as you showed. One was brilliant and I am feeling very chuffed. Yes it is some fiddling around and I only did light cardstock as a test run but it worked!!!! Going to try doing a black/white into colours next. THANK YOU for sharing this, I have subscribed
Oh my gosh, this is so intimidating to a new Cricut owner like me. I'd like to think that my years of Photoshop and Illustrator would help me but mentally trying to think in layers cut by color individually is hurting my head. LOL! But saving this to my reference videos for when I get brave enough to try something like this. Excellent tutorial!!! Thank you so much!
That is an amazing tip, never thought to reduce the color! I've tried to upload so many images & delete everything & hoping it would have clean lines... So many wasted hours!! Coming up with a project just so I can try it! Thank you so much for sharing 🙌🙌
Totally blew my mind. I can't believe you can do this with DS. Your tutorial is incredibly helpful; every step is explained and easy to follow. Thank you so much for taking the time to show us this amazing feature in DS and your step by step tutorial. New subscriber and follower.
Wow so in depth, I can definitely see how tricky and fiddly this is! The things we do to make things fir our kids hehe. This was so helpful and I'll probably watch it another 10 times lol so it sinks in. Thank u
I absolutely love this video!! I have been wanting to learn how to do for so long now. I don’t have patience for “reading” how to do things, I am more of visual learner, it makes things “click” for me!! I greatly appreciate the time you took making this video. Although there are many steps you have made it very comprehendible 👏🏻and I am sure I will need to practice but it is something I will definitely be doing. Thank you again😊
WOW I watched this all the way tru and can't wait to go try it. U r so detailed. I'll let u know how it went for me. This is the best explanation so far 🥰🥰🥰
Omgggg! You are totally a life saver, the passed weeks I’ve been watching videos after videos just to learn, honestly NO ONE has explained as clear like you! Obed tried hundreds of ways ! And tada! ✨💕 thank you so so much for this video! Can’t wait for the next video 🙌🏼
Love the way you broke that down. I spent a few hours over the last week trying to figure it out on my own (with very little luck). I’m going to give it another shot soon.
This! Is! The! Best! Video! Ever! seriously this has saved my life and I'm so thankful you did this because my cricut has definitely tested my patience to the point where I wanted to return it lol
You can also get a cleaner image when using the Complex option, You select complex and then over to the left select the advanced option, and then change the section with the number 16 to 100 and it works just the same way. Even better honestly. Depending on the image you can even go from 16 to 20 and that also works the number is going to depend on the image.
Thank You so Much Got my Cricut 3 days Ago and your video's has been the most simple to follow I just made my first Layered Project on Design space im really excited !!!
This is amazing, I struggled with an image the other day and just couldnt figure it out but I ran across this video this morning and its amazing. Thank you so very much for sharing your knowledge and creativity with us! It was in my mind there there had to be a way and you made it easy thank you so much for sharing with us
I just got my first cricut machine and your videos are AWESOME! I've read so many blogs trying to figure things out (I've literally never done any of these types of crafts before) and your tutorials make it all so easy to follow and learn!
Thank you for showing this. I have to say this was difficult, for one, my contour was big and I could not see the image on my design space and I totally missed a step in the contour about clicking after to chose the pieces, but I finally got it. The worst part was cricut srptop.responding. I am like a dig with bone, and never give up. I may take a break but I always go back. Thank you for an awesome tutorial.
Finally, this is exactly what I have been looking for!!! Great info; thorough, but not too much info...So in other words - perfect!!! (thank you, thank you, thank you!!)
Thank you so much for your tutorials! I'm new to cricut, but I really find your tutorials very helpful because of the step by step you give us! I appreciate you Thanks again!😊
At the very beginning when you're making the background transparent, upload your picture into Canva and select background remover then download with transparent background. This does all the hard work for you and then you can just upload your transparent image. I do so much this way:)
Possibly THE best Cricut tutorial I’ve ever watched- including ones I paid for🤦♀️ Thanks so much x
Do you know is she is a premium member on Cricut. Cause I don’t see the select image type on my computer. Do I need to pay for it?
I am a brand new Cricut owner and I can not tell you how much this video has helped me! Thank you! Thank you!
This tutorial is great!! Thank you! I know it’s two years old already, but it still applies and is super helpful!! 💖
You are such an amazing teacher! I've spent the last week searching online trying to figure out how to layer and you spell it out, step by step and show exactly what and how you are doing it! Thank you for such a good demonstration.

Have had my Cricut for 18 months and knew NOTHING about contouring. This is SO HELPFUL! THANK YOU 😭😍
Aubrey A. I’m SO glad it was helpful! 🥰 it took me so long to start using contour! It’s crazy how much you can change an image with it :)

Thank you so much for your tutorials! I'm new to cricut, but I really find your tutorials very helpful because of the step by step you give us! I appreciate you Thanks again!😊
Kimberly Rodriguez I’m so glad they are helpful!! 🥰❤️
It was difficult for a beginner like me but with your help I was able to contour my favorite Disney princess
At the very beginning when you're making the background transparent, upload your picture into Canva and select background remover then download with transparent background. This does all the hard work for you and then you can just upload your transparent image. I do so much this way:)
WOWZA WHAT A GREAT TUTORIAL!!!! Thank you so so much!
I feel like this will work a lot better than selecting each part of the image in uploads, uploading them, and lining them up like I used to.
Sarah Artmaker yes! I have done it both ways and find it faster using the contour button even though they both work :)
OMG..YOU ROCK!!! That mad it so so much easier to understand. Thank you
You really don't know how much you just made my day. This was an awesome tutorial. Thank you so much.
I finally understand how to make DS work! Thank you!!
I'm new to using a cricut. I'll admit..I'm very intimidated, but your video gave me a little more confidence! Thank you!!! I subscribed!
Thank you this was so useful for me as I am new to cricut, will try this asap.
Love this video. I learned a lot. Thank you very much Kayla.
