Sons Force Calm Silverback To Charge

- Silverback Gorilla Oumbi from the Twycross zoo was actually in quite a relaxed mood all day. As you saw from the last video, even the brother hard play didn't bother him at all. Maybe that's what made his sons want to bait him even more in this video.
Oumbi is sitting outside in the sun. Lope is giving dad some stares. Taking his charging stance and then walks past him all huffy and puffy. Oumbi just wants to relax in the sun and he's not reacting. Lope disappears for a few seconds before he takes his stance again in front of his dad and then walks back inside. Lope comes out once more and does the same thing. Oumbi is biting his lip, staring back at his son. Lope moves to the other side of him. Oumbi doesn't move a muscle until Lope goes back inside. You'll see Oumbi start moving when Lope went inside. It was all quite tense. A close up of Oumbi's head and then you'll see Shufai his younger son poking his head out from the back of the hut. He goes inside and Oumbi moves some wood wool.
Concentrating on Oumbi, all of sudden Lope comes charging back out and starts his staring game again. When Shufai comes out, Lope charges toward the hut and hits it. Shufai moved behind the hut. Lope goes back towards his dad in his aggravating stance. I'm surprised the Silverback is still this calm. Now it really is getting intense as Shufai starts with the same pose towards his dad. I thought Shufai is standing between his dad and his brother to maybe calm things down. Shufai moves towards the door, Lope walks closer to his dad. Frustrated Shufai pulls the door flap. Lope moves again and now it seems like Shufai stands with his brother as both now face their dad. Oumbi is still surprisingly patient. Shufai sniffs his brother's bum and then both go back inside. Only then does Oumbi moves again. It's not long and the brothers are back out again. Shufai does like sniffing bums lol. Lope isn't happy and charges past his dad. Shufai pushes the door flap and then it's a bit like "what do I do now" He looks at dad and rips up some grass. Then, well I'm not sure. He does some stretches, then Shufai shuffles until Lope comes back. Oumbi still doesn't seem to be interested in what his boys do, but when the boys get closer he finally had enough, gets up and charges past them. It's more of a charge saying "can't a silverback have some peace and quiet". The boys don't give up and follow him. Shufai is close on his big brother's heels. Lope takes his stance again and Oumbi just looks at his eldest. Ozala the boys' mother grazes in front of her boys. Lope and Shufai move away a bit from their dad. When Lope charges again, Oumbi starts charging away from the boy toward the direction of the camera. His hairs were all standing up. 200kg of power. You can see that Oumbi was in a pretty good mood. We know what he's capable of, seeing him pouncing on his son or the time when he threw Ozala across the floor. This time he just wanted to let the boys know that he's fed up with their antics and just wants to be left in peace. Oumbi sits down, but gets back up again and walks towards the others. Lope has a quick look around and walks upright inside. Shufai waits for his mum, Ozala gives Oumbi a couple of glances before they go inside.

I can completely relate to this father. My son is 15 and I have caught him giving me that look while I'm trying to take a nap on my hammock during the summer time.

Wow. You would almost think there was a human inside of a large gorilla costume. That intense eye look, the expression on his mouth. It makes you wonder why the 2 smaller ones want to aggravate him so badly. They are us, we are them. Truly amazing !

Yep, Oumbi just wanted to relax and soak up some sun. The boys however, they wanted dads attention, which they werent getting. When it was once said that Lope had an apprentice a few years back, you can see that Lope taught Shufai well. Shufai acts just like Lope. Oumbi puts up with a lot and the expressions on his face crack me up. I like how he tilts his head as if he were saying, "come on boys, just go play somewhere else and let me rest." lol. Great footage and video.

Oh, and one more thing. He didn't charge, just showed how big and powerful he is. A good display. Then gave off energy and position which they knew to go on in the house for I beat your behind in public...😊

I love the way he's calm, like, never having to worry about his life, keeping feed, having sex, and good time with family, all his problems are gone, and all he can do is enjoy, and rest the rest of the day calmly, just playing.

The problem is that there just aren't enough natural challenges in the zoo for these animals. The enclosure is great progress of course from the bad old days, but they are still bored.
I just love Oumbi with those penetrating & probing eyes, & great facial features...I was cRaCkINg up while the boys were trying to goad Papa into chasing them...

Lope is firing Oumbie up, lope cannot mature without Oumbie guidance the raised arm charge lope is not very good at it but Oumbie perform it faultless a real test of strength a 400+lb silver-back charging with one arm balanced horizontal holding is entire torso weight on one arm.
