I've been training Jiu Jitsu for a few months now, and being in my second year of high school. You just learn so much, you have the knowledge that you can defend yourself, and there is no need to let people be the boss of you. Just that knowledge that you can defend yourself in any situation. That thought is extremely comforting and allows you to "walk strong" as the person in the video says.

This got me thinking about my grade school experience up to graduation from high school. If it weren't for my martial experience I would not have been the same person I am today. Most likely I might've been a gang member or even dead. I hope Bully-proof will do for other kids what martial arts in general has done for me; give me courage to stand apart from the crowd and be my own person.

Nothing in life is a guarantee, however, the skills and virtues that martial arts instill in its students is an invaluable asset. I've trained in martial arts since I was five years old. Not once have I met someone who bullied other students there. Either me or another child. In class the kids learn discipline and respect for one another. The worst thing I've seen is a child who needed anger management, but that's why he was in class to begin with. To control his temper.

I like how this teacher is aware. Most teachers don't give a fuck about what happens under the radar. A teacher of mine in 4th grade let me know to do whatever it took to not get punked. He knew I let myself far too much. Fighting is a great way to get to know who you are because you can't hide from a punch. You can't hide from an armbar, you can't hide from a choke. What you see is what you get.

@199jl That's not how Martial Arts is historically, in the history of martial arts many of the originators were in fact bullies. Then there's also the military aspects of other martial arts. (A soldier who lets the opponent fire first is a fool.) If the dojo doesn't teach you how to fight and instead teaches you inner peace or something zany like that then it isn't a good dojo.

If schools replaced Gym Class with Gracie Bullyproof Class, there would be no more bullying in schools.

in my school the bully was a jujitsu kid. he whooped everyone until he decided to bully me, a wrestler and hapkido dude.... i put the little (17yr old) thug in a firemans throw after snaking my arm into his punch, spun him around 350 degrees, slammed him hard to the ground and proceded to end his reign of terror with a vicious hround and pound. after i humbled him he actually apologized to me. my point is this.....as parents we must watch to make sure our kids are not the bullies. oh i know, not your kid. you could be very much wrong because it could be your kid. matter of fact, the way i see it is that if your kid sees a bully picking on others but does nothing about it they too are guilty and yes, even young kids. we can no longer trust teachers and staff to protect children therefore the good people must step up to help when needed. yes jujitsu is a great art and extremely practical but it is not the only good practical art. the person teaching and the mind set of the student is the difference.

You ended his reign of terror and started yours. You became the bully, Mr. majestic wrestler, hapkido dude.
Just for your own safety, check on UA-cam what Rorion Gracie did with a hapkido master, before you jump on another jiu-jitsu guy.

Danilo Janune i stated a few facts, even said jujitsu is a fine art and you got angry......thank you for making my point. still, i want to study ju jitsu but there are no schools in my neck of the woods. as for hapkido missing ground attack, i agree......again, my point was just saying it is the practictioner and the teachers that make the difference. so, how does my comment translate into me being a bully? now, lets work on healing you and your fears.......what happened in your life that makes you fear the truth?
did you get bullied, perhaps on the job as an adult and nobody believed you? just a thought to get you to think...or maybe you are the bully, got the hell beat out of you by a nerd looking dude because you tried to bully him/her when nobody was looking then everyone laughed?....i hope not but sure sounds like you experienced either or. now, show me the evidence that i became the bully. all i did was teach dude to not be a bully and guess what. he stopped. in closing, that was way back in 1986 and i have been training in martial arts ever since. i have not ever picked on anybody, ever but i have stood up to protect others in situations where bystanders just stood around doing nothing, i even stop a dude that was 6ft 9inches huge from killing a cop in portland oregon back in 2002. show me your evidence that i am a bully. THANKS AGAIN FOR MAKING MY POINT. i bet you think islam is a religion of peace? am i right. nothing wrong with an open dialog to get to the bottom of things but theres much wrong with spewing out the mouth false accusations about someone else, which in my book makes you the bully.

It is funny to see you playing the psychologist on internet.
Here is some real psychology to you: here, a place where we interact with words, judgements on one's emotions and state of mind are mere reflections of the emotions and state of mind of the one writing. That being said, I recommend you work on your anger, fears, and, why not, the need you have of showing off as the "bully wrestler, hapkido dude".
By the way, did you check Rorion's video? You should.

@joeratti thats a stupid comment. the first thing tought in martial arts is respect for yourself, others and then to be confident. then there is other things like self control, inhanced focus and the ability to stay clam in stressful situations.

That's a great testimonial. Hey guys, can you guys try to refrain from expressing your martial arts views/tactics/beliefs on what beats what? With nothing but words, what do you really think you're accomplishing? Stop wasting everyone's time and yourselves. Can't ppl just comment relative things about the videos they watch?

If the teacher knows this is happening, then the teacher is allowing it and is a part of the problem, rather than the solution. Being progressive rather than reactive is how you stop bullying and it starts the first day they walk into school. The current system punishes the victim and attempts to rationalize and accept it as part of the daily occurrence in a school day. Only when the schools are sued into bankruptcy will serious steps be taken to stop bullying.

dlastmohican71 Most of the time, being "progressive" turns out to being regressive.

It all depends on the father. You can teach your son to defend himself. The Gracie Combativies course has 36 basics techniques. Blue belt level Jui Jitsu will get it done against most untrained bullies. You as a father that let your son get bullied. Shame on you!
