  • A look at the Leicaflex SL, introduced in 1968.
    The SL2 was produced from 1974-76, not from 1976 as mentioned in the video!

    I just discovered that camera at a local camera dealer for 120€, together with a 35mm f/2.8 it was only 300€ - still very amazed and looking forward to the pictures it will take.

    It's the best camera body i own. I also have a tip for you and any other possessor of this beauty: if you bump with the finger on the shutter button very quick and with the right amount of force, the mirror will come up but the shutter will not be released, so you can get rid of the extra vibration of the mirror and shoot super steady. With a bit of exercise this trick always work and can be useful when you're on tripod with huge telephoto on steady subjects or with long exposure where you want to get super steady and the framing is already fixed. It makes no sense but it work, i don't know how or why

      did you have your body checked out when you purchased? Thats so interesting.

      Yes I can confirm this “feature” too with my SL. Was mentioned by someone way back in time in the 70s. It’s a wonderful camera to use.

    Great video! One slight correction though: if I remember right the Leica Rs weren't built by Minolta in Japan but by Leica in their Portugese factory branch.

      For regular use, probably the OM system as it's a lot smaller and lighter.

    Extremely helpful video! Thank you! Wondering if you can help me out. I was recently given one of these cameras from my grandmother that belonged to my late grandfather. It took me a while to finally get film for the camera, but I spent some time learning about it and looking in the viewfinder and whatnot and everything seemed fine. Now I finally got film in it and went to use it today and the focus seems off. It focuses in and out but when my subject should be in complete focus, it's still a little fuzzy and blurry. It gets so close, though, to the point where you wonder if it really is in focus only to ultimately realize it's definitely not. I've never owned an old film camera like this (or any film camera) so I have no idea what to think or where to go, aside from a local camera shop. Before I do that, however, I'm trying to scour as much info. online as possible.

    • @Samsung9alaxy
      @Samsung9alaxy  3 роки тому +1

      The most obvious culprit is a dirty viewfinder! Clean with a cotton earbud dipped in some alcohol based fluid , making sure you get into the corners. Apart from that, it could be accumulated grime on the focusing screen. Much more difficult to clean.

    Curious thing about this camera not using light foam seals is Leica doing the same whit the R8, so Leica own designs are made like this no light seals it was a great design!

    • @Samsung9alaxy
      @Samsung9alaxy  10 місяців тому +1

      It sounds like the exposure metering isn't functioning correctly. Could be due to a battery problem or a fault with the camera.

    Im going to sound a bit silly but this is my first leica and my first film camera. I just bought the leicaflex sl2 and a bunch of film and the elmarit trio. Im kinda confused by the focusing system is everything supposed to look clear when im in focus or will there be a split diffraction? Id be so grateful if someone can reach out and point me in the right direction

    • @Samsung9alaxy
      @Samsung9alaxy  4 роки тому

      When you turn the focusing ring on the lens, you should try and get your main subject in focus in the viewfinder.

    Hello,
    I've just installed a PX625 in the camera for the lightmeter. However, when I press the wake-up button of the lightmeter, the needle, which is initially on the upper black dot, moves a little (about 8/10ths of the way from the lower black dot). Does that mean anything to you? The battery is new though. Many thanks for your feedback.
    Well done for the informative video :)

    • @Samsung9alaxy
      @Samsung9alaxy  Рік тому

      The needle with the circle on the end moves when you change the aperture or shutter speed (or when you initially set the ISO film speed). The straight needle should move up and down depending on the light coming through the lens. You should adjust the aperture or shutter speed so the 2 needles align.

    • @alibigoudis
      @alibigoudis Рік тому

      @@Samsung9alaxy Okay, so the lightmeter is dead then because the needle only moves a little near the upper black point. I've tried several light scenarios and it's always the same. Too bad...
      Thanks for the feedback.
