That upright shoe is kinda sad. The phrase "waiting for the other shoe to drop" is used when we wait for something expected to happen. Jupe's traumatic experience should have been enough of a message that you can't befriend wild animals. Him believing there's trust between him and Jean Jacket means he didn't learn the lesson, and the shoe never "drops."

Dude like for University I had to write an essay about a movie I liked (summary, Plot points I liked and plot points I disliked) issue is I picked Dr. Strange (the first one as its one of my favourites and it's easier to summarise than Avengers and such cause I don't have to explain where the bad guy/Loki and his Chetauri army came from and the previous movies these guys had) so anyways I kinda screwed myself as I don't see many bad points in it and I had to write approx 2000 to 3000 words in each thing (plot, likes, dislikes)
so I went to cinema sins to find the bad stuff as last I watched them, they had better points than now with a little humor, I didn't make it five minutes in as apparently they never heard of wind-up watches that's why Dr. Strange's watch drawer does the spinney thing so they don't run out of charge, and there was many more but this one in particular stuck with me (cause that's a stupid sin anyway even if they were regular watches)
oh and apparently however many seconds of logos and he drives a rich asshole car.... I mean damn thing costs more disposable income than I'll make in my entire life (I think its a couple million last I checked which might be more than I'll ever and have ever made in my entire lifetime... disposable or necessary)
I'm off point and I'm ranting but point is, I had to find the friends who still remembered it and also rewatching it to nitpick it (one of points was straight up... Yeah he be kinda irresponsible bro...)
BTW this was like... A month ish before MoM came out... so not many remembered it as apparently as I've figured out after Dr. Strange MoM came out and the nitpick started a lot didn't like the first movie and I'm a rare breed that loves the movie.

@@AnimeKat8849 another thing is i see people in the comments be like "thanks for summarizing this bad movie for me,, didnt even know it existed and now i dont need to watch it!"
but they sometimes,, cut out info that proves them wrong. they will cut out and skip over a antagonist explaining why they disagree with the protagonist. and then SIN it for apparently NOT existing.
Every movie ive watched that they feature usually makes me mad because i KNOW they just didnt pay attention. contrasted with movies ive never watched NOT making me mad consistently, the editing of their videos. combined with the tone, (and being just outright wrong sometimes?????) means that more likely than not you will outstandingly DISLIKE the movies they cover even if its UNDESERVED
example would be when they did Strange World, its a pretty ""above average"" movie but after the 16 minute mark i noticed they REALLY stopped paying attention to the movie,, like hardcore. they sinned the movie for asking questions that would be answered if they paid attention like 2 minutes ago, they didnt know why the turtle they lived on dying would be BAD. they cut out the other pilot commandeering the ship because if they killed pando, they killed all energy in avoria or somehing, and then sinned the movie for her just.,, doing it for no reason? because they cut out the part where she says why she does that. the movie exposits in the most in your face way, they ignore it, and then sin the movie for apparently not expositing well enough.
cinema sin writing is NOT that good because they are too focused saying "THIS MOVIE SUCKS BALLS!" over every important scene in the movie and not paying attention to it, because using critical thought and reasoning to them is like a krpytonite crucifix to a superman demon.

More specifically it's "we don't actually care about you as a people, _we just want to use you_ "
Which is _the_ central theme of Nope, the exploitation and often times _commodification_ of those we don't see as "equal" to us and how we ignore the fact that they're a _living being_ .
The show runners didn't _care_ about Gordy, they just wanted to _use_ him
Jupe didn't _care_ about Jean Jacket, he just wanted to _use_ it
And as is common in a Peele Film, the concept is applied to a social level of us as a people
With Em's passionate speech about black people's importance in the birth of cinema and their impact in it's history, being met with _silence_ and a single _chuckle_
They _don't care_ about _anything_ she said, _they just want to USE her._ So they just _humor_ her words, because she's _useful_ to them.
I agree, a sin should've been removed, because Em's speech is probably _the_ scene where NOPE is actually _upfront and in your face_ about it's message
That _a life is not a fucking commodity_ , so if you _need_ to use one, be it the life of an animal or the life of your fellow man, _at very least_ give it the respect it _deserves._

At 3:30, regarding the lack of blood rain at the beginning, I always got the implication that the blood rain later on was part of a deliberate intimidation display on Jean Jacket's part in addition to it trying to dislodge the horse. Birdman might've misremembered cause he said in the blood rain scene we can still hear people screaming, even though there's a specific shot showing the screaming ended

actually, i believe the blood rain is because of the fake horse it ate. they feed it a giant fake plastic horse a couple scenes before when they were trying to lure it out. when the scene with the blood rain happens, the monster had been digesting and then spitting out the indigestible non-organic materials belonging to the crowd it just ate, its only after this spitting up starts that the blood rain starts. when the monster begins to move away from the house and to OJs car, the object that gets thrown into OJ's windshield is that giant plastic horse, and the horse is covered in blood. theres a line later where its commented upon how the fake horse really fucked it up, that it mustve gotten stuck in its windpipe or something, and that because it really messed up the monster, the monster would be hesitant to eat anything that has flags attached to it, since the plastic horse had flags attached to it. so i believe the blood rain was happening because when the monster had ingested enough that it was time for them to dispel what it cant digest and began the process of doing that, the fake horse it previously ate somehow injured the monster on the way up, and so the monster rained down blood. when it moves over OJ, the noises it makes just before the horse hits the windshield also sound like expressions of pain as it attempts to dislodge the horse. however, the other way to read it is that the monster wanst injured, the blood was instead the liquified remains of the earlier victims and what we were actaully seeing was the monster vomit because the big fake plastic horse made its tummy hurt so much that it couldnt keep its big meal down

It gets more detailed than that actually. It’s implied that Jupe has been feeding Jean Jacket horses and trying to tame it over the course of a couple weeks, with Jean Jacket occasionally supplementing its diet with a few hikers. After Jean Jacket eats the fake horse, it gets a bit distrustful of Jupe’s horse, and coincidentally that’s the day where there’s a large audience, so it eats them instead.

Just because someone's storytelling is subtle doesn't mean it's bad-and I say that as someone who has trouble with picking up on subtext. It's much more engaging as a piece of art, that way. You have to put in the effort to figure out the themes rather than just absorbing them passively. What I want to say is thank you for what you are doing. Your videos are very important to me and, if it's what you love doing, you should keep making them. Also, don't pay any attention to all the cinemasins fanatics who tell you off for sinning his videos. You can never have everyone on your side. Unlike cinemasins, every one of your sins is correct and properly substantiated instead of a bunch of subjective comments and cringe jokes. The bottom line is that I love your content and I encourage to continue like this. No matter what others say, there will always be one person rooting for you right here.

To also tack onto Sin 20, it could be that Gordy's home wasn't even popular or well known at the time, like Cinamasins mentions there was a massive rush and over-saturation of shows like it and probably better than it, and the only reason why the show stands out was because of the incident itself, it's very likely jupe calls it a hit because it's his biggest work (plus if it was that big he very likely wouldent be in the situation where he's in during the movie) that and the spectacle of the accident likely garnered massive attention to the show after all any publicity is good publicity and everyone is more then willing to watch a train crash when they know how it ends.
I can also very much see Jupe calling it a hit as an excuse for the accident with Gordy, sorta like he's justifying the accident

God, it's like Cinema Sins is trying to rival Logan Paul with his misunderstanding of this film. All of the Peele movies themes and messages seem to just go right over his head. And you really nailed the issue I have with a lot of "critics" these days. They always want to enforce reality on the logic of film, and can't ever see why metaphors are in a film makers tool kit.
I guess when you've decided to make a channel out of picking apart films, you are always going to seem like you don't understand film making when you are inevitably forced to nit pick objectively good art. If he wants the stay relevant to youtubes algorithm, he has to go after successful IPs that are being talked about... I don't know why that infuriates me so much, but by gum, it really does.

  • @Creshosk

The one that gets me about the "the tube man's eyes shouldn't count as eyes to the alien" is that animals have evolved markings that look like eyes specifically to scare predators. You know, making animals thinking that something that aren't eye, but look like eyes, think they are eyes. So the alien animal should absolutely think that something that looks like eyes are eyes. Like you keep pointing out, it's an animal.

8:32 Doesn't even need to be that. If Peele says Gordy's Home could compete with every other show from the late 90s then it could. He could say there are many little differences in the Nope universe that account for it, but he doesn't have to because it's not so jarring as to be immersion-breaking, nor would it have had major repercussions in the Nope universe that are contradicted in the film.

I was always one to shut my brain off in a movie, but I had so much fun with the film discourse about this movie, your counter about the shoe is perfect and what I love most about these kind of movies. Peele has some of the most imaginative horror movies as of late, and feels so scummy to unintentionally drive potential viewers of the movie away because Jeremy gives dogshit takes with very few actual sins. I can count the ones on my hand where you actually agreed with him. I can only imagine how much work it is doing all this so I appreciate you so much for the entertainment.
