Love the work that you do. The only thing that has stood out to me over the years is the long coolant hose's strapped under the car. Maybe a coolant hose cover for esthetics and protection from road debris.
@troysaddress Let us address that topic. Many have expressed a similar reaction to "exposed hoses under our cars." Porsche, as well as many other manufacturers, put multiple different hoses exposed to the elements under their cars without fail. This includes, fuel, brake, AC, and oil lines. If you try to run your coolant hoses through the heater ducts, many sharp unfinished edges will create leaks and potentially soak the occupants with hot coolant inside the car. Furthermore, you can feel the heat off the ducts, and air gets trapped when you run up and over the front fenders inside the front trunk. Now, your idea, as well as running aluminum tubing under the car, have the same result. The first time you bottom your 914 out on a speed bump, your cover or solid tube is permanently dented restricting flow. Our heavy duty hose does not care about road debris. It's about as robust as a street tire sidewall, and they certainly take a licking. Furthermore, it will re-inflate when it's pinched. And, those cheap conduit straps are easily replaceable for a reason...they are EASILY REPLACEABLE! (-: We've seen the aftermath of a few busted up cars, and NONE of them had cut or perforated hoses even after being dragged across two medians. Yes, they came undone at one end when the junction they were clamped to, ripped apart. But the hoses were fine.
I love your stuff! I was looking for one ten years ago, bought a '64 MGB with a SBC in it, now a custom chassis/suspension/ 4 wheel discs car. Someday if financially possible I'll own a Renegade 914. My MGB is big fun (400hp/4-speed) in an old school kind of way, I've ridden in a SBC 914 Renegade (awesome), thinkin' an LS conversion is just better. Keep up the good work
When I was young, there was a kid in high school that had a new 914. Boy did we laugh at him. VW motor. Get out of here. Now almost 50 years later, that 914 is damn cool. Big motor. Little car. Perfect combo. Very well done.

I had a friend who put a built 327 Chevy, in a 914, and took me for a ride.....we went around a 90 degree turn, at about thirty, and he nailed it, and in 600 feet we were doing 100MPH!
I remember when I was a kid a neighbor of a friend of mine had even wider flares with Centerline wheels and it handles like a slot car. However, the LS wasn't even created then and for sure most if not all the other components weren't either. Miles apart from what I thought was badass back then at 13, lol.
This thing is beautiful. And the joy in your voice and face at the end is perfect. Curious if you've done one with a Boxster S engine? That's been my dream for a while now.

Wow I need to call you Scott. I have owned 17 Porsches & 9 Corvettes. Love the concept of driving a mid-engine Porsche with an LS V-8 stuck in it. Light weight cars with 500 hp is the best. I used to race a 1993 RS America 911; it was super-charged to 500hp and weighed 2472 pounds. 17” wheels with 911 S breaks all around was just fabulous on the street and fantastic on the track with micky Thompson slicks. My daily drivers are a 2019 991.2 911 Turbo S and a 2013 60th anniversary Corvette 427. Both cars are amazing. Just ordered the new 2024 Mustang Dark Horse. I will put the Boxster transaxle in it, but hadn't decided on the engine. The LS sounds awesome. I do want to make it a rally configuration, so is it too much power? Once I sell my '92 968 cabbie (know anyone that wants one?) I will call ya to get started.
My s13 240sx is perfect with ls2 t56 I can not imagine that tiny mid mount Porsche with any lsx. I definitely have a lot of interest in lsx Porsche. Probably be cayman if I was to choose.
I love everything about this, EXCEPT the rubber cooling hose along the bottom of the car held in place with conduit clamps. As low as this car is to the ground it wouldn't take a very big piece of debris to poke a hole in it. Why not steel tubing with rubber joiners at each end? love the car though!!
Steel tubing would kill the aluminum radiator as dissimilar metals can create havoc on the cooling system. Aluminum tubing would collapse the first time you bottomed out on a speed bump. The very thick Gates hose never fails us, and it's quite easy to service if it ever did.
I think I'd likely just loose the trunk at that point and build a true set of 180 headers. We've done that before and it sounded just like a really angry 4.0L Porsche twin plug engine!
Me too, 74 914 1.8 silver - but it was 76 BHP, and that was back in '78. I recently had a Miata for a short time but just didn't float my boat. - looks like I might have to tap into my savings and talk to these guys, I'd like to have one just like that.
Hi Scott, what an absolute rocket ship. The Subie conversions pale in comparison. I can see how one might end up in the brig driving one of these. Now I'm in a quandary. Do I stick with gasoline or change to electrons. What a great dilemma to be faced with. Thanks for the terrific video tour...davey B.
My neighbor had a 914 way back in the day, first time i ever saw one and have always loved them since. This has the good looks with loads of power, i would love to own this.
Very nice work, the only thing that caught my eye is, it would be relatively easy to custom hard-pipe the center sections of the coolant lines underneath and eliminate all those unprofessional looking hose straps and wobbly looking coolant lines.
Porsche has AC hoses, oil cooler hoses, fuel lines, and brake lines exposed under their cars. Why would coolant lines made from a thick and resilient Gates Green Stripe hose be any different? Aluminum tube would dent permanently and restrict the flow. Any other metals would be dissimilar and could drastically shorten the life of the cooling system. The thick rubber hose reinflates and continues on. The conduit straps are deliberately simple so the customer can easily replace them.
@@RenegadeHybrids Good point about denting and restricting flow, just looking for a way to make the underside look cleaner, what about a nicely bent long stainless sheet metal shield with flanges, secured to the chassis with sheet metal screws covering the strapped area. I do agree though, there seems to be no other simple solution.
@Carl Schroeder We have tried the pretty way, and many other functional methods with mixed results. 40 years of thick rubber hose and conduit straps has proven, many times, to be the most reliable, repairable, and practical way.
Beautiful 914s! I wish Porsche would bring back the 914 as a simple, single motor RWD EV (914e anyone?), but I guess with the electric Cayman that’s not likely to happen.
We don't really do drag races. This car is all about handling corners, balance with torque, brake management, momentum, reliability, serviceability, and pure fun. It checks all those boxes quite nicely.
so glad you didn't use the Fusion marine stereo instead as its absolute garbage for future reference. That Kicker marine head unit is designed for a small boat console and is top notch quality in terms of fit and finish and sound. Kuddos on the silver car. Its literally amazing. The details on that car are def what set it apart. Very well thought out and that is where Renegade is different.
@@daveeddy2402 - I don’t disagree… But adding that kind of horsepower and torque to a car that is all that light certainly seems to highlight the potential for straight line performance. And of course the demonstration of performance provided also illustrated ability to go fast in a straight line.
Beautiful car, amazing mod. I’m guessing the only place you can find a rust free 914 is California. In the Midwest They rusted away to nothing in no time.
Beautiful work. Especially the custom stitching on the Prototipo. The Boxster S gearbox is a no brainer at this point. Is the axle geometry similar to a stock Boxster S?
All that great work, and I gotta to ask. Is that the radiator hoses I see under the center of the unibody? I would have guessed the tubing for the water cooling would be routed in the outboard lower rocker panel(s)? That engine sounds great !! ❤😊
The inside of the rockers have multiple sharp edges. Furthermore, the route the hose would have to run allows for air pockets to form. Porsche put multiple exposed rubber hoses under the car on all older models with zero issues. We followed suit. Plus, the rockers are considered somewhat inside the car. Showering the occupants with scalding hot coolant, or even just heating up the interior on a hot day, is not preferable.
You guys should consider manufacturing some coolant hardlines, like a Pantera uses. Those green strip rubber hoses are okay, but hanging on the underside like that exposes them to road debris that could be catastrophic. I could always help with design and manufacturing 😎
Hard line idea has been discussed add nauseum. Hard lines dent easily and need to be replaced. Soft lines re-inflate and you keep going. Hard lines are difficult to ship. Soft lines are a no-brainer. Depending upon your metal choice, introducing dissimilar metals can cause premature failures in your cooling system. Soft lines...well...you get the point. Lastly, if tires are made of durable rubber materials and they hug the road for 60k miles, and the thickness of many racing slicks are about the same as our hoses, why is it that a few people believe it to be an unfortunate design flaw when you see it under a 914? Thank you for your comment.

Your work is so clean, wow. Wish I had $ to do this, I can dream :)
That’s a great combination!!
beautiful work...
>would love a wood knob because...IYKYK
Tell us about the 928 behind you!
Go to our UA-cam Channel. There is a great video of that car rippin' hard!!!
Here it is! ua-cam.com/video/mINXaX0yCMc/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
Stunning!
Okay Scott, Giving you a call Monday and getting in line with my 914.
Dig it! Talk to you on Monday!!!
@@RenegadeHybrids called you today Travis, on the boxster transmission swap.. hoping to have it into you guys the first of next year.
Did I miss your call??? Lol
@@RenegadeHybrids nope we talked yesterday, I’m looking for photos for you and putting my list together. I’ll get it out to you this week. Tks
I was in Vegas last winter, wanted to stop by, but didn't have the time.
Bummer...
I love this so much!
My neighbor had a 914 way back in the day, first time i ever saw one and have always loved them since. This has the good looks with loads of power, i would love to own this.
Sweet! I'm envious!
Wou was für ein traumhaftes Ergebnis. Ich ziehe meinen Hut.
Wirklich ein wunderschönes Auto ❤
@@RenegadeHybrids Nuff said, you would know better than I, more times than not, the "kiss" method works out the best, very nice work overall!
Beautiful 914s! I wish Porsche would bring back the 914 as a simple, single motor RWD EV (914e anyone?), but I guess with the electric Cayman that’s not likely to happen.
Ahh man i miss the 2 914's i owned. You just sparked something in me !! Cool Video.
Very nice clean build. Any idea what it does zero to 60 and 1/4 mile time?
We don't really do drag races. This car is all about handling corners, balance with torque, brake management, momentum, reliability, serviceability, and pure fun. It checks all those boxes quite nicely.
so glad you didn't use the Fusion marine stereo instead as its absolute garbage for future reference. That Kicker marine head unit is designed for a small boat console and is top notch quality in terms of fit and finish and sound. Kuddos on the silver car. Its literally amazing. The details on that car are def what set it apart. Very well thought out and that is where Renegade is different.
Thank you so much!!!
Porch Wagon 914 flat 6 has an excellent sound
Sure...when it runs!
That’s pretty sweet! Seems to hook better than I expected. 2200 lbs - 495 hp - WOW
Do the Porsche purest hate this car?
I’m sure they do, but I’m guessing they are much more lenient with something like this vs the holy 911.
I'm sure the build and engineering are outstanding but I'm not a fan of all the weight added.
0-60 isn't the only measure of a car's performance.
@@daveeddy2402 - I don’t disagree… But adding that kind of horsepower and torque to a car that is all that light certainly seems to highlight the potential for straight line performance. And of course the demonstration of performance provided also illustrated ability to go fast in a straight line.
Great build. A couple of questions. What CV axles did you use? Did you use the 914-6 stub axle for the 5 lug conversion in the rear?
We build custom axles. We can do either the stock stub axle or the early 911 axles!
Love 914’s
Beautiful car, amazing mod. I’m guessing the only place you can find a rust free 914 is California. In the Midwest They rusted away to nothing in no time.
You'd be surprised. Some real enthusiasts have nice cars even in wet climates.
Beautiful work. Especially the custom stitching on the Prototipo. The Boxster S gearbox is a no brainer at this point. Is the axle geometry similar to a stock Boxster S?
Pretty close. Well within tolerance!
@@RenegadeHybrids I understand completely. Sounds like you guys have a good handle on it. Thanks for the reply!
Now I want one!
I want to build one of these so bad.
Such a good job...and then you have exposed radiator hoses mounted in a very vulnerable position. Please tell me you're going to cover those.
