Awesome and quick way to do a shadow study the only problem is I dont have the same V-Ray settings as you do, I am missing Raytrace, Caustics, Render Elements and Switches do you know why? also Summer solstice is 21 of June my birthday!
Hey Shakti, V-Ray has changed their interface quite a bit since the making of this video unfortunately! If you have the latest version of V-Ray, check the tab amongst materials, objects, settings to find render elements. You might have to refer to other comments to find workarounds for other steps too. Anyhow, that's an incredible coincidence! Happy early birthday haha
Is there a problem with the new vray next? when starting the recording of the animation, it interrupts already after the first pass... please wait for the current render to finish. the result i get in the end is just one frame with no shadows or lighting. it seems as if rhino doesnt animate the onedaysunanimation (rhino 6) can you help me?
Hi Hans , it seems that new version of V-Ray and Rhino have different ways to do this. I had to enable 'Animation' and 'Save Image' under 'Render Output' in V-Ray settings and turned Rhino document sun 'on'. Then I used regular 'Render' command instead of 'RecordAnimation.' Let me know if that works for you!
Hi Sean, it should save automatically if you have the channels included in your render elements in the V-Ray asset editor. Let me know if the problem persists!
Hey @@cal5742, thanks for bringing this up. I tried running the steps and I found that this method is no longer working. I'll see if I can find a workaround and get back to you!

I don´t know if it is of any help to this point, but I had the same problem and instead of typing in the command, is just went directly to "Render Tools" tab and clicked record animation from there and it worked.
i don't know why but when i run the "record animation" it doesn't save the shadows and alpha in the animation folder // the rgb saves i have tried the solutions you recommended down in the comments but it still doesn't work can you please elaborate on how to get all the rendered images saved in the folder automatically?
Hi @@ArchiHacks, Just the "RGB color" layer saves but its okay now I figured out a way; The frame buffer automatically pops up when one shadow layer is done and I save it before it starts rendering the other shadow layer. It was getting frustrating hence I asked; thanks for your reply; appreciate it :]
@@yusra7 I'm glad you found a work around. I have not thought of that one before! I found that newer version of V-Ray allows you to do something similar. I'll see if I can figure it out and make a followup video!
My pleasure! Perhaps your save button is not set to save all channels. Long click on the save button and choose 'save all image channels to separate files' in V-ray frame buffer window!

@@ArchiHacks oh wow thanks a lot, that works just fine for me!
Great vid but how were you able to render out the RGB and Shadow channels into separate files?

Hi, may I know why I can't do record animation with a specified view I created? There says "unable to find viewport to play animation".
Thanks!!
Might be a result of having a newer version of Rhino and v-ray! Have you tried solutions given on other comments on this video?
@@ArchiHacks got same problem here, tried to enable the animationa and save image in v-ray setting but only gives one image render with no shadows.

Hey yusra, does it create blank files or no files at all? If you've already tried everything, I can take a look via google hangout : )

Hi Thanks for the tutorial! Any Idea why the shadow and alpha channels are not exporting to file?

mine does not say render elements and i cant add shadow so it doesnt become inversed what can i do??????//
Hi Noah, I can take a look. Could you send me a screenshot via other sns? Thanks!
My renders are being saved all white, why?
Make sure you enabled render elements, and have the right level of exposure on camera or VFB! Let me know if that doesn't work : )
