@@MrRolemaster you need to see Anne Wilson of sing stairway to Heaven live at the Kennedy and tribute of Led Zeppelin. She had them in tears and the whole audience on their feet..
"Here comes the rain again", "Why", and my favorite "Walking on Broken Glass"... when the Eurythmics arrived the whole world said "WTF??? Who is this?" They were HUGE from this first hit song.
Well actually, they had several singles and an album before this that did very badly. It's quite true that Sweet Dreams is what made them, but it wasn't their first single. In The Garden was their first album with 4 singles that barely charted. Love Is A Stranger was released before Sweet Dreams and only made it to 54 on the UK charts - it was reissued after Sweet Dreams and made Number 6.
Annie lennox There must be angels playing with my heart, walking on broken glass and Why. Are all great too. She's one of the best female singers ever.
Annie Lennox has one of the most beautiful voices in rock/pop. Look up the songs "Why" and "Walking on Broken Glass". Then just for fun, check out her duet with David Bowie of "Under Pressure" at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert. You'll see a different look every time you see her, too....she definitely had her own sense of style. A woman all her own :)
They had been struggling to break through and were feeling depressed, on the verge of giving up. Dave Stewart started playing the riff and Annie leapt up and joined in - she knew instantly that they had found something special - she was right !
I'm so old I remember when this song was released (1983 - it's hard to believe it's over 40 years old!). Annie Lennox had such a gorgeous voice! Another of their hits was "Would I Lie to You".
one of the best female vocalists, and sounds better live, they do an acoustic set of their hits and it just the two of them, masterclass pure and simple.
“Would I Lie to You?” is one of those songs to play at top volume on the car radio as you are driving down the highway with the window rolled down and you are singing along, also at top volume.
Yes. Love the Eurhythmics. I was and am a headbanger and have always been a fan. Here comes the Rain Again is another great track. Her solo work is really good too. Her Christmas albums are excellent
In the late 2000's Annie Lennox was more of an independent solo artist, and she ran a lot of her music from her website. A young record exec was browsing some online music looking for new talent, and stumbled upon her site... thinking she had made a massive discovery. She emailed Lennox about their label being interested in some of the tracks she had listened to, and proposed that Lennox use this opportunity to break into the industry.... LOL. Oh... the embarrassment
You have no idea how groundbreaking this was back in '83. The genderbending bright orange hair was so out there. And the music... that synth! Middle America was captivated.
It's a song that has never gone away and never sounded old. It is still used in poplar culture and you will very often hear it with a lot of dance troup when you go to football games.
Love this song. More to consider: Here Comes the Rain Again, Would I Lie to You, Missionary Man, There Must Be An Angel, Sexcrime, Love is a Stranger, Sisters Are Doin it for themselves and I need a Man ❤
Eurythmics/Annie Lennox is a rabbit hole WELL WORTH diving down head first. Love is a Stranger, Here Comes the Rain Again, Walking on Broken Glass, Missionary Man, No More I Love Yous
Simple lyrics being profound reminds me of the quote from Picasso: "It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child. Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up."
A song from my childhood & my country. The beautiful Annie Lennox is from Scotland, what a voice & what charm to pull off this androgenous look with orange hair in the 80s. I think a good song like this can cross time, cultures & still remain relevant and stir feelings in lots of people. Great song.
I was in Wagga Wagga in NSW back in 1980 and The Tourists were holding a concert there . At the end of the concert Annie Lennox announced that she and Dave Stewart were leaving the band and forming the Eurythmics
Trivia fact: Siobhan Fahey - the 'grim reaper' from Shakespear Sister - was married to Dave Stewart. Dave is one of the biggest music producers in Europe if not worldwide and Annie ... Annie is one of the best female vocalists, her range is crazy!!! The sound of my childhood.

Annie Lennox has a giGANTIC voice. Dave Stewart is a musical genius. Together, they were iconic. Great job of layering various vocals by Lennox to create her own background singers (something they probably learned from Ray Charles). Listen to "Would I Lie to You" it's basically a traditional rock style song Dave plays guitar, and it rocks pretty hard. They can do just about any style. They definitely had some high art concepts in some of their videos.
I always felt Eurythmics dipped into the new wave lane of the 80's, like ELO, Men Without Hats, Soft Cell, Duran Duran, Talking Heads, Devo, The Fixx, The Cars, etc. There were so many genres of music in the 80's that many bands were a mix of different ones.
Ha, Men Without Hats, yes. I was just listening to The Safety Dance the other day. Then I had to listen to Pop Goes the World But yes, I agree, Eurythmics definitely had a little of that feel to them.
There is a video of Anne Lennox and David Bowie doing Under Pressure. It has both a rehearsal and the actual performance on the same video. Both are well worth watching.

In the mid-80s, I had an Annie Lennox orange crew cut. The Eurythmics were an amazing band, so it is great that you get to see it. They have many more.
They were inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame a couple years ago. They were very innovative. Started out with a lot of synth, became more rock. Great rock n roll story….they were a couple for a few years while in another band but then broke up romantically but formed Eurythmics and became worldwide famous for this song on their second album. It’s ironic that you think they must have known right away that it was a hit because it was the last single they released from this album. Forty years later it’s still being played on the radio and sampled by everyone. The ting ting ting you hear during the “hold your head up” part is them using milk bottles for percussion. They recorded it in an attic of an only factor they were living in at the time. Dave became a hugely successful producer of other groups. Annie had an amazing solo career. She’s a huge activist and philanthropist. She’s an icon to a lot of people. Check out ‘Would I lie to you?’. IMO opinion, one of the best music videos of all time. Annie Lennox is simply a beautiful creature. And a powerful vocalist. I had her poster, with the cropped red hair and a black PVC raincoat on my wall as a teenager. It used to freak my mother out. Half of ‘80’s Synth/Pop Icons the Eurythmics (with Dave Stewart). Incredible solo career after their split. Annie was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2022.
Absolutely! I cant remember any of the details but there was a documentary about Annie Lennox that described it all. It is amazing how much good can come from struggling with artistic freedom, if you stick it out and overcome those hardships.
In the early 80s, I went to visit a college roommate on Long Island and almost every bar that we went to happened to be a strip joint and this was the most popular song the dancers were dancing to.

I did a week in a studio with Annie in the 80s. She's a really beautiful human being. A true artist with a soft and lilting Scottish accent and the most amazing eyes. Very down to earth and funny. Her daughter is now an amazing singer too.
Dave Stewart says all of their music is designed to be able to stand as an acoustic arrangement as well. In addition, Annie is somewhat of a performance artist and this reflects in her Eurthymics music videos
