I read a story somewhere about when Eurythmics toured the U.S. back then. I think it was Detroit, the home of Motown music, but because of the way music was being marketed at that time, the audience was nearly all white. The story said Annie Lennox asked “Where are all the Black people?”
She was heartbroken because she thought the Black community didn’t care for her music.
Truth was, they just hadn’t heard it because of 80’s radio programming. Compare that to the 70s where you had everything mixed up and everybody listened.

She is so down to earth too. If you follow her page - she does stuff like shows you the soup she made at home from scratch in a ceramic bowl that you or I could own and using a wooden spoon probably locally crafted. It appears she lives as if she was a regular human being. Like you could reach for an apple at the local market, look up and there's Annie Lennox reaching for the same apple. That's crazy - a world treasure just walking about as if! Lol! Seriously I would die.

I was fine when the other student was still taking lessons, but when he quit I just couldn't do it alone. So I only went to the big group leasons.
He was a teacher & found out I was getting supplemental lessons from my previous music teacher & he threw a fit about it & had the school put an end to that.
Then a family friend who knew that guy personally as well offered to give me lessons & when Ellerston found out cuz I had my family friend accompany me for competition, he threw a huge fit again & got those lessons ended.
So I gave up before Ellerston ruined my love for the cello.
Funny, since the cello was probably electronic and not acoustic. Kudos to those who play cello!
I thought the same thing when I just saw this Eurythmics video (my first time) although I've liked the Eurythmics for decades). Now I want to learn cello (although I'm still learning delta Mississippi blues guitar (after playing drums, and keyboards in my band) :-)

I asked the singer and composer of the song, Tim Finn: mate, I can't hear a cello. His answer: you're right there's no cello. Me: Oh, you mean that synth line? Yeah, I got it..

I was an avowed Eurythmics fan throughout high school. Loved Walking on Broken Glass but was into more obscure hits like Beethoven, Right by Your Side, Who's That Girl, Missionary Man, I Need a Man, and Sex Crime (1984).
Never cared for that song; but I would say There Must Be An Angel (Playing With My Heart) is my favorite.

Annie Lennox, her short boy haircuts in different colors were more surprising and provocative in 1983, She was part of an MTV celebrity trend called gender bending, Boy George, in Culture Club, was at his peak at this time. Boy George and Annie Lennox were sort of opposite sides of the same coin. Eurhythmics have stood the test of time better than Culture Club.

Y'all should check out Kate Bush, she has an amazing voice and amazing song writing. Running Up that Hill or Wuthering Heights or Charo ! she is an actress , comedian and a master flamenco guitarist . both women are amazingly gifted musicians

Annie Lennox is a pretty amazing human being with one of the greatest voices ever. In addition to being a talented performer, she's a political activist, a philanthropist and is still as cool as she was 35 yrs ago.
PLEASE(!) give Nancy Wilson/Heart's performance of Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" at the Kennedy Center a listen.
It's one of the greatest rock performances of all time and it's literally brought the rock gods who wrote the iconic songs to tears. It'll give you goosebumps, I promise!

Annie Lennox is one of those rare artists, who with Dave Stewart, created so many beautiful songs. Her live version of 'Miracle of love' in Australia is one of my favourites (+ all the rest). And when Eurythmics parted, she comes back with 'Diva' album. Glad you started your intro to Eurythmics, this is just the tip of the iceberg. World music should be another journey you could go for.
