For the limited cutting i do,couldn't justify the extra ching! Opted for the MS462,put WCS dogs on,max air flow filter on,in addition to the WCS bark box, she's a helluva saw! Love it.
I have two ported Ripsaw Stihl 500is and two ported Ripsaw Stihl MS261C-Ms. Absolutely great saws for production. I put the Max Flow filters and Eagan straight-shot mufflers on the 500is. Had them for 3 years now and very happy with them.
We own a 500I and it is a beast. As a company we are chain saw poor but it seems that every time I grab a saw it is the 500I. Flow master is a must for all saws.
Nice saw! I would have thought it had air injection though. If it does I can't find any mention of it online. My g 372xp, a copy of huskies 372xp which came out in 2000 has it. I have run about 4 gallons through it and the filter is still spotless.
Been running a stock 500i with the Maxflow for a few years now. Can't comment on the porting by Ripsaw, but everything else you said tracks with my experience. Well said.
Welcome back, sir. Nice saw you have there. It's more saw than I would ever need to use where I am from here in the Midwest, but you East-coasters are on a whole 'nother level! Stay safe, and stay blessed!
@Sparaco487 Some of us in the Midwest run longer bars because we have some large timber, but some of us use smaller bars because the trees might not be so big around. To each their own when it comes to the length of your chainsaw bar.
500 is a cool saw but no way the best. The 462 better none of the little issues and you can get it regular carb. The 395 would probably be the best ever made pretty much will do anything and run forever.
@Wanous-hv7zo easy to make more power and easy to fix. I maintain all the saws through my work 3 crews and it's the older husky that never skip a beat still got a 288 in service could rebuild it in an hour.
Heck yeah awesome kevin !!! I was really looking forward to this video, I’m happy for you man !! She sounds and looks like a real ripper 🤘!! Sucks that it took so long to get it in your hands, hope it was worth the wait, seems like it is to me !! Looking forward to more 🤙
A 400c fuel injected would be nasty. I’m not a fan of ripsaw from everything I’ve read online, not that they are bad they just seem overpriced for what they do. Good video man!
Nah , they charge quite a premium for their work but this is the USA 🇺🇸 and folk can charge whatever the market will bear … I built a zipped and piped 461 for a guy that spanked one … HARD … for $250 😂 and the guy had it in a week
I use Bel Ray waterproof grease and a few extra washers as shown on mine. Seems to help a lot. Also grease the rubber seal on the filter where it makes contact with the body.
Seen a article about the fine particles, get in through the screw hole for the filter cover Egans have a small grommet, washer that stops the gap. 881 goes alright 😉
I like my 500i, also have a ripsaw ported 372xp. Not much i can say about ripsaw without being completely disrespectful. They are definitely not the ones to go to.
Watching this only confirmed what I already knew. Husky makes the better saws. If Husky has the long standing filter issues this saw has they would have fixed it by now. Never had any fine dust make it past them filter on any of the Husqvarna saws I have. Anyone considering the 500I should check out the 592, it’s a much better saw.
I'd tell em you want your money back and buy or order your saw of choice and make a porting appointment w/Joe Harkness.. you'll have a better running saw and will have the dyno numbers to prove it and won't have to wait.. get a worksaw, not a rip(off)saw
One of the best ways to improve physical strength is to pick a saw that is uncomfortably heavy and then take it out and run it all day. You will see your arms grow. Happened to me when I started running the 395xp and when I graduated to the 3120. Best firewood saws there are when you want to reduce time spent in the woods. Pair them with your choice of bar length and a 10 tooth sprocket for greater chain speed and torque utilization. Who has time waste in the woods with a 50cc saw. Trying to buck a log with a toy like that is worse than watching paint dry.
@@86dieselmanBeing in the woods is the point. It’s never a waste of time. The 10 mins you save over an hour you can save fueling up. Just enjoy it out there, man. Run whatever saw you want.
Great video! Pro tip, not a great idea to take your left hand off the handle bar while you’re cutting downward, wouldn’t be pretty if that girl kicked back on you.
They are flimsy as a dish rag, bad bushing set up on them,, and the case of the saw is thin ,, I’ve seen two with the engine cases cracked from the chain flying of and hitting it,, theses saws need beefed up if you are gonna run them every day logging , put the bushings from a 660 in them , and put a case guard from a 660 on it two it will help keep the engine case from getting cracked if chain flys of,

Stihl bro ..got two of them...and my oldest is 42 years now...still running good and never broke up...german technology...❤😊
Good to hear. I e had good luck with them, too. Although my favorite firewood saw still going is my little 445.
The old stihl saws are excellent. The new one are crap. I have been a certified still mechanic for 18 years.
That is what Stihl saws were and what they aren’t anymore.
Your English is perfectly understandable I can even write down every single words you said if I want to. Are you a common PA talker?

How long did it take yours to come in. I’m at 6 months of waiting
My first two took about 4 months. I'm still waiting on my other two. Been over 8 months so far.
@@froghollowfirewoodllc Damg dude. Sucks fr. I was thinking i got scammed for a while there lol
I got my first two saws a couple of years ago before they got popular. Now, they can't keep up.
Glad to hear that. That’s how I think of these saws. Production saws not race saws.
We own a 500I and it is a beast. As a company we are chain saw poor but it seems that every time I grab a saw it is the 500I. Flow master is a must for all saws.
If you guys put a little grease on the matting surface of your filters you stop all the dirt
Good idea
@@KevinsDisobedienceI bought a tub of Bel Ray waterproof grease for the filter base. Works fantastic , also doubled up on foam washers.
That's what I always do on a dirt bike filter. Works good even in heavy dust or sand

Wait what? Normally you hear east coast has small trees and the mid-west guys run the big bars
@Sparaco487 Some of us in the Midwest run longer bars because we have some large timber, but some of us use smaller bars because the trees might not be so big around. To each their own when it comes to the length of your chainsaw bar.
Most firewood guys here run 18-20”. I think 24” is perfect for around here, but on this saw 28” seems about right.
What fuel and oil ratio you running in your rip saw?
50:1
Ethanol free
@@KevinsDisobedience Question. You said 50:1 is t thus fuel injected? Your not mixing fuel then.

Very well presented video Kevin!
Egan makes lower profile 3 point felling dogs. Same aggressive shape but not as long. Cheaper too.
Has anybody thaught to put some grease around the seal to help with the fines? I did that with my ms 391
I’m sure that’ll work
