    The old timers told me fines cut the life of a saw in half. They get into the bears and polish the piston and cylinder. Once the cross hatching is gone the saw fails to lubricant properly.
    I very much appreciated how you don't upload a video every day. Keeps the content as it should be, full of information and kick ass awesome!

    The WCS suspension kit is an absolute must, on these saws. They are the flimsiest saw I've ever ran, before I put the kit in. It's pretty crazy how much it stiffens things up. I also didn't know that CNC porting was a thing. That's kinda crazy. Anyway, glad they're working out for you and helping you "upgrade" your business and production! Take care, Feller!

    Selection of tool I feel has a large amount to do with which part of a chainsaw bar that an individual felling person feels most comfortable using. And as many tree fellers as I continue to watch at work, the one thing that stands out to me, is that all felling tree workers are individual in how they approach this task of getting 'a tree' from a position at which it is standing vertical, to one where the tree is lying flat on the ground. What I mean is, some tree care professionals might do emergency response, may give zero you kniw what's as to the value of the log (in fact, from a tree care guy's point of view they often see the lumber and it's disposal as a cost to them, not at income stream). The polar opposite to guys I know who fell timber and stage the lumber for auction buyers to come bid on that lumber. I grew up in a culture where no one dealt with a tree until it was deemed to have become a health and safety risk. We never viewed standing timber in any sense as being a resource. So for beginner tree folk or power saw tool users, it must be confusing to watch one guy who fells timber with a purpose of removing 'a thing' which has become a problem (sort of like a rodent removal service, except for trees). And another guy who fells timber and views the tree as having a positive, not a negative economic value. A chap like a 'Good Feller' uses that Stihl 28 inch bar in a way that is totally individual to that person, and that person's mission. And it seems the 500i is just particularly suited to a chainsaw being used for this job. What's fascinating is another equally busy tree feller may see it totally different, may not take as kindly to this saw at all. I think, within reason, it's nice to have a selection of tools to choose from.

      @Good.Fellers  Місяць тому

      Rock on 🤘

    • @academicmailbox7798
      @academicmailbox7798 Місяць тому

      The one thing I will comment on, from the Good Feller application of this tool, the 500i. It made me realize something about the tool I hadn't thought of. The 500i might be one of these tools that seems good at two things at once. Felling cuts, and bucking horizontal timber on the ground. For the latter, you want something that is not as heavy, and maybe not as powerful either. For felling cuts, I don't mind a heavy saw as much. I like the power of the heavier tools for felling (that is, the power isthere and you kniw it is there, is it has to be summoned). This 'pick up' or responsiveness is a quality the some tree folk are fanatical about (and it might be more justification for doing port modification, than just in the search for more raw power). What I want with a limbing and bucking saw though is something that's light and it goes far on a tank of fuel. And maybe that's a bias that has crept into my game of late, having been introduced to Elm trees. Looking at these oaks and the 500i, I am struck by that, how well the 500i could be re-purposed over as a limbing tool, after being used as a felling one. For my part, I just like to have two different tools for each task. The idea of one saw which does both this well, has me thinking. Those 592 saws are way too cumbersome, too heavy to carry to ever be good limbing saws. And I think the 592 is an essential tool nonetheless. Just look elsewhere for limbing.

    • @academicmailbox7798
      @academicmailbox7798 Місяць тому +1

      Now I understand the 500i is a star that burns brightly, and maybe does not burn as long (in forest use, the 500i might not have an exceptionally long lifespan). And that's where I'd point back to the emergency responder, tree care guy. Who pulls out thebig 500i once in a blue moon. And runs 50cc saws most other times. That guy needs his 500i for exceptional circumstances, but not everyday. The 500i to him could really make sense, it's like two saws in one. A 90cc and a 70cc tool in one. For the logger individual, well even if the 500i can't go the distance, as it's supercharged just too much for that application. What the 500i gives a logger is a break now and again, from having to carry a 592. And that's not nothing. Especially for a Good Feller guy, because his days are not short. I'll use a 592 for a couple of hours, but a day, not so much (that's why I use the 70cc alongside the larger tools, so I don't run short on endurance). And I've seen guys run ported, screaming 70cc saws for felling, paired to 60cc saws like the 562 for limbing. Even better. That 562 isn't go to last a lifetime 'in the bush' either, but it'll definitely make life easier.

    • @academicmailbox7798
      @academicmailbox7798 Місяць тому

      Now that I think of it, heavy 90cc felling saws make sense to me, for that purpose. Why? If one can fell a tree in two minutes instead of five or six, that's a lot if endurance spared in that task right there. Under powered saws take longer in felling parts of the task, which translates into more operator stamina used up. So while a felling saw tends to be heavier, net, net one carries that weight around for a third of the time, of a less powerful saw.
