    Thank you. My monstera peru came home and started dying off. Coco coir when you said that I remember it turning black and shiveled. Again thank you it made since the moisture being held is killing it.

    I don't do pests. If I see troop formation, I spray, then spray again 3 hrs later, and spray again 6hrs later. Have lost a plant, Saved a plant. 50/50.

    Your scenarios are exactly why I have always repotted new plants immediately. I didn't know what kind of soil they were in, how long they had been in it, how many nutrients were left in the soil, etc. I've never had a problem with doing that, but now I'm being told I shouldn't do it, and it's bad for the plant. 🤔 I understand that plants need a period to acclimate to a new place, but soil is key to them surviving and having the energy and reserves to acclimate. I'm at a loss here.

      There’s always exceptions to the “rules” (they’re really more of guidelines), and if it’s in not the best soil, that is definitely one of the exceptions💚 Just use your best judgment based on what you’re seeing. And always slip the plant out of the pot to get a better look at the soil and the roots to help you in deciding what to do.

      Amazonicas are the worst for spider mites! Literally the only reason I have any is because I propagated corms...It's every single time. I will never willingly purchase one again, however I will do everything I can to keep the ones I have healthy. Even if that's left in the yard to fend for themselves ..ugh.. frustrating. I HATE SPIDER MITES

    I recently had an issue with my "Money Tree" I took it out the soil and removed , washed it off. Then notice I lost one of the "Tree Trunks" it was soft and mushy. I cut off what I could of the Rooted Roots, put Peroxide on , then let it dry, then spray on some "Insecticidal Soap" just in case. Cut of the Leafs 🌿 that was dying, repotted it in a smaller pot, fresh soil extra Perlite. Now she's doing Great 🌿

    I love buying wet sticks (leafless viable nodes). They're so much cheaper, and I'm quite good at nurturing them so they push out new vines from their axillary buds. I don't think it's fair to tell people never to buy them. Of course, people shouldn't buy them if they don't know what they're doing or if the axillary buds aren't viable or if it's a genus of plant that almost always needs leaves (like hoyas); but those are different scenarios. PS: you have your s. treubii wet stick upside-down in the water. That's one of the reasons it's acting strangely. If you put it right-side-up, I'm pretty confident you'll get a new vine (not single leaves) popping from one of the top nodes.

      As I mentioned in the video, it’s a whole other video for me to fully explain what I meant, but I’m actually working on an upcoming video in which I go into more detail about wet sticks. The keyword is VIABLE which a lot of people don’t understand what makes it viable vs unviable which is why a lot of people are getting scammed out of their money whether intentionally or unintentionally by sellers (‘cause there seem to be quite a few sellers out there who either don’t know how to tell if it’s viable or know it isn’t and still sell it anyways). I don’t want to give too much away before that video airs but I think you’ll feel better about the full run down I give on the topic in that video, and of course feel free to let me know if you don’t after watching that video💚

    Don't come for me!😏
    You need a fiddle to replace the Croton outside 🤣😬
    So... I was fighting with fungus gnats since Valentine's Day and I went through like 40 (not even kidding) of the yellow sticky traps and peroxide in the soil etc and I finally got fed up and sprayed every single one of my plants with raid, including the top of the soil and foliage. I no longer have fungus gnats and it's been about 6 weeks and none of my plants have shown any damage and they've all continued to grow, including my fiddles! From now on, I will just take drastic measures! I was at a point I was considering beneficial bugs like lady bugs but everything I read said that the lady bugs are not harvested in a good way, which sucks, and the other types don't generally work too well with fungus gnats. Plus, shipping in Canada can be scary when it's anything living and I don't want to kill a bunch of lady bugs BC they got too hot or too cold.
    My SO turtles hasn't needed watered since I got it and I can't recall how long it's been, I'm thinking about 2 months! The soil is moist when I wiggle a finger in. I'm thinking that the 70 percent humidity along with the fact they are shallow rooted and a ground cover type of situation, that they're creating their own little ecosystem on the soil. I've got plenty of new growth and a flower and the turtles have plumped up since I got them. It's quite odd! It's also why watering on a schedule kills some plants! 🤷🏼‍♀️

    This is a reason why I get scared to buy a braided plant. I've seen braided money tree, sansevieria and even fiddles! I'm always like "but what if one dies?" Cuz then I've got a lot of work to fix them up... I wish people (consumers) understood that things are braided to jack up the price and to make a basic plant look fancy, no other reason! Just like gluing flowers on cacti! It's all so damaging to the longevity of a plant. I would happily buy a 4 stem money tree, I would not buy a braided one BC I want my plants to last and trunks get thicker with age. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I hope yours pulls through. It sucks to lose a plant even if it was inexpensive or easily accessible! We spend time and money feeding it, housing it, cleaning it's mess... They're like a green family member in a way. I'm sure I'm not the only one who gets up and puts the dog out and then checks the plants and their needs! 🤷🏼‍♀️

    Drea, OMG….I just purchased a Costa Farms Scindapsus Trubeii from Lowe's this week! To my surprise, it is very root bound.
    I isolated it from my other plants (after treating it with your Castile Soap recipe) and letting it acclimate to my home. The roots are so thick that I didn’t pay attention to the what kind of soil it’s in. Do you recommend that I not wait for it to acclimate and re-repot it now? Thanks for a great channel! FYI unfortunately male mealybugs can FLY!!!!!!!!!!!😮😮😮 I've had a problem with them at my house recently and so I did a deep dive into mealybugs and how they spread and how to get rid of them. Unfortunately after I got rid of what I thought was all of them I am still finding them on other plants that they were not on previously. 😭 I'm not happy at all.

    • @AlohaPlantLife
      @AlohaPlantLife  Рік тому

      It’s actually rare to have houseplant mealy bugs fly. This is from a scientific paper: “While adult females are wingless and similar in shape to nymphs, adult male mealybugs, which are rarely seen, are tiny two-winged insects with two long tail filaments. Many mealybug species can reproduce asexually without mating.”

    • @mydogmyplantsandme
      @mydogmyplantsandme Рік тому

      @@AlohaPlantLife yes, I forget to mention the asexual reproduction. I had one plant on the other side of the room get mealy bugs and no other plant around it had them. However, plants on the other side of the room did. I water all of my plants in a methodical way. I start on one side and work to the other side. I have to or I'll miss one. I have so many. The side of the room that only had one plant with mealy bugs is where I start. It's also the very first room I start in. No new plants were added and none had been moved. If it wasn't from flying mealy bugs, I have no clue how that plant I've had for years got them. The greenhouse I work at won't even take the time to treat a plant for mealy bugs if it has them unless it's an expensive plant. The treatment is so time consuming. I'm sure 8f we had an outbreak they would try something instead of losing all the plants though. All I know, is that I HATE MEALY BUGS AND SPIDER MITES. Spider mites are easier to get rid of though. Unfortunately, the damage they do is fast if you don't know that a plant has them because they reproduce so quickly.

      @@AlohaPlantLife unfortunately, I've spent probably 25+ hours trying to destroy them on around 18 plants, so far. They were all fine one day and the next 2 day it was like they were just invaded. The first day it was only 2 plants and the second day it was another 10! Mostly my hoyas, pothos, scindapsus, and a few others. All of them have a ton of leaves to inspect too. 😕 I'm STILL finding them on plants every once in awhile and the first sign of them was in mid March. I'm so pissed. Now, I'm inspecting them almost daily. Also, I've had to repot them because I can only quarantine them in my bathroom and they ended up getting mold on the top of the soil 😭. I swear I can't with these plants sometimes, but I'm still bringing more home though. 🤣 I'm hoping that my silver falls doesn't end up like yours. I'm going to be so upset I might just pitch it.
