      Did you try the second batch (1.3) that came out yesterday? It definitely doesn’t fix them all, but should help in many aspects.

    WRC 9 is better than Generations for me, Generations seems to be lacking enviromental sounds and road noise seems far too quiet, 9 doesn't suffer as badly from this problem although the overall sound is still lacking compared to EA WRC.
    I do prefer 9 to EA WRC however, mainly because I find the stages much more interesting. I haven't tried all of the stages in EA WRC yet but most of the ones I have tried I find quite boring and samey, I tried one of the Croatia stages last night and for 6 minutes it felt like I was driving the same handful of corners over and over again. The stages in KT games are really interesting, memorable, challenging and constantly throw new things at you. Also the sense of speed in WRC 9 feels faster than EA WRC, increasing the excitement of flying around corners and down narrow roads.
    Once the performance issues and screen tearing have been fixed on EA WRC PS5 i'll put some more time into it but I can't see myself liking it more than WRC 9.

      I can see how some countries’ stages can feel repetitive on the EA WRC. Not sure which one’s closer to reality though, at least many of the EA WRC stages are very detailed reproductions of real life roads and places. There was a video comparing a Finnish stage to an IRL one, and I can’t see how it could be any more realistic and detailed.
      When you try the EA WRC the next time, increase the FoV to get a more similar feeling of speed to the WRC Gen, which has the FoV quite high by default. I’d also disable motion blur to emphasize the effect.

    Love hearing your opinions! Gotta disagree with what you said about more realism not always being tue answer though. It is a good point and I'm sure most people agree with you but I'm trying to get into real rally racing and hopefully compete and everything in the future so I always think that if I get games like RBR I'll be better prepared. Just my opinion, but I do like playing dirt 2.0 and all of those games for more of a fun time than just "training"

    • @mrelwoodgames5971
      @mrelwoodgames5971  6 місяців тому +4

      Thanks! Yeah, if you’re aiming for rallying IRL, the situation and the priorities are quite different. In the video I purposefully call these “games” instead of “sims”, since that is the angle I’m reviewing them from. Just like a $5 hammer is probably the best choice for 90% of the population, there are hardcore users that should choose the $30 hammer. I would say that for preparing for IRL rally, you are indeed better off with RBR. You do need the hardware to suit though, in my opinion. A T150 on a couch table might not do it.
      If you do like a more gaming style approach every now and then, I’m pretty sure you’ll like the EA WRC quite a bit more than DR2.0 though… 😉

    I love your argument about realism and i would add this: we are playing video games not sports. A video game is a piece of art that interperates a real life thing and adapts it into an electronic game. If succesful, you should get the IMPRESSION of competing in the WRC. If realism is your only goal and you manage to be 100% successful, then only real life professionals will be able to play your "game"

    • @mrelwoodgames5971
      @mrelwoodgames5971  5 місяців тому

      Exactly! There is indeed a limit to the actual realism required to get a realistic experience. I keep thinking that if we truly want 100% realism, we should get ourselves a diarrhea before playing to mimic eating strange foods abroad…

    I've been off road racing for a little over 10 years now. Not rally but very similar in a lot of ways. we close off open roads and use them as a circuit. We have 13 and we practice them whenever we get the chance, so those hairpin left unseen over crest moments don't happen haha. I will say I'm quite impressed by EA sports WRC. I have a low end racing rig for my computer but even on controller this game is good. The audio specifically, I find myself checking my mirrors sometimes I get so immersed. And you really do need to use proper racing techniques to go fast. I have no idea how to drive a real full blown rally car but they handle how I'd expect them to based on my IRL experience. The only thing holding that game back for me is the performance issues but those are thankfully being fixed!
    When I played wrc generations I could instantly tell it's meant to be accessible and fun to drive. I personally didn't find it as fun though because I like doing the flashy and tricky maneuvers that are slow but look awesome that I can't really do in real life without effing the car up.
    all in all try out beamNG. It has really fun tuning and the off roading feels surprisingly good!

    Nice video dude! Your video quality keeps getting better and better. I especially like all the fun graphics you did throughout. Definitely makes the video entertaining for sure! Keep em coming!
    As far as your review goes, we will have to agree to disagree on some aspects, but I still appreciate your video and honest thoughts. IMHO I think with more time spent in the WRCG game, you could get a better grip on the games handling characteristics, and might change your mind. No offense intended, but based on the clips you showed of you playing WRCG, a lot of what you thought was the game, was actually driver error. Again, no offense intended, but you’re obviously very used to Codemasters games, and like you said, jumping into a different game made by a different developer is going to feel foreign until you figure it out. I do agree with you wholeheartedly on the audio though. It is horrendous in WRCG, and I am loving it in EA WRC.
    All in all, I like both games, and to be honest, while not perfect, the fun factor in EA WRC is pretty awesome! I am starting to enjoy it more and more everyday.
    Thanks for making the video man! Definitely enjoyed it, and appreciate it 🤙.

      Thank you for the great comment! Most of my earlier videos were a bit time sensitive so I didn’t use much time editing. It’s a really slow process, at least for me.
      I hope it was clear that in the beginning I was just blasting out into the banks with purpose, that was not descriptive of my driving skills… 😉 But you are absolutely right, more time and I’d surely get more familiar with the handling. It took me a while to familiarize myself with the EA as well. However, time doesn’t remove the peculiarities, one just learns to counteract.
      Again, same with you and the EA WRC, as you become familiar with the handling, you can forget the few peculiar aspects and learn to command the car the way you want. But comparing the experience after one day of each, I wasn’t getting much anywhere with Gen. The 4WD behavior just doesn’t make any sense to me. The EA behavior is different enough from DR that I’m not sure if DR experience really helps with the EA.
      Happy drivings, whichever game you do it in!

    • @drw4338
      @drw4338 6 місяців тому +1

      I agree with you in full, I think no matter which game you play or prefer, you can overcome the driving characteristics and become good at the game. The really nice thing about EA WRC, is that even though the driving was not to my personal liking by default, with some tweaking of the settings, and tuning of the cars, I was able to make it feel really good. The more I play it, I’m finding a lot I really like about the game that makes me keep coming back to it day after day. Maybe it’s because I’ve played WRCG for so long that it has become boring for me and the new content in EA WRC is exciting 🤷🏻‍♂️, but if I’m being honest with myself, if EA WRC was really that bad, I would not still be playing it. There are aspects to WRCG I will miss (like Leagues Mode), but I don’t think I’m going back. I’m having too much fun with EA WRC, and that’s the whole point right? Regardless of which game you play, the one thing we all have in common and can agree on, is that we love to sim race.

    Hey mrelwood, I'm new to simracing and EA WRC is my first rally game. You can't imagine how dissapointed I was when I jumped in to try WRC Generations or Dirt Rally. EA WRC just drives almost like a real car compared to those 2 and stages look amazing. I can't understand why poeple are shitting this game so much for graphics. Just play the game. It's much better than it might seem from the first look and whining of youtube/reddit.

    • @mrelwoodgames5971
      @mrelwoodgames5971  2 місяці тому

      Exactly! If only people could assess stuff more objectively, the world would be a very different place. I had hundreds of hours on DR2, but my honeymoon period was long gone when the EA WRC landed. I’m sure that helped me in comparing the handling with less attachment. It’s no secret that I already had a lot of wheel time on the EA WRC when I tried the WRC Gen, but then again the Gen handling was roughly familiar to me already from WRC 10, again leveling out the field somewhat.

  • @messiahshow

    You pointing out exactly my issues with Generations and previous games. The sound, the boat delayed feel and I also feel they nerfed sense of speed. I just think it was time to leave over the project to EA Codemaster now. The company felt like it lost passion, if sound can't be fixed to perfection in 11 games then they will never be fixed. Otherwise I did like the stages a lot so a shame they never got some things right.
    Good comparison.

    • @mrelwoodgames5971
      @mrelwoodgames5971  6 місяців тому

      Thanks! Yeah… You’re exactly right, GT7 “Rally” is slippery past being even funny anymore. I would guess that that they also wanted it to look as if skillful professionals were pushing the cars to their limits, and the non-existent grip is the cheap way out for inexperienced rally drivers to look that way. Or then they just had no clue how cars behave on gravel, which I guess is a possibility as well.

    14:40 I think you meant "physics" rather than graphics ;p Great video though
    RBR has some positives: it runs on weak ass laptops like mine, there are close to 500 tracks, at least half of decent quality, and modding scene is still alive, doing anything to make it a bit more modern. Yet to fully test EA WRC, although everybody is conflicted about the handling engine, with some saying its very arcadish, much more so than DR2, some saying pivot point physics is still alive and well and some say its the second closest to realism.
    Kylotonn WRC games were shovelware up to like WRC8. Only then they got passable

    • @mrelwoodgames5971
      @mrelwoodgames5971  6 місяців тому +3

      Damn! You’re right about the 14:40! I meant to say “physics”! 🤣 I hope other viewers catch that as well…
      I’ve noticed the same, that the EA WRC physics are a very conflicting subject. I’ve been on both sides of the fence myself. It may come down to expectations. After spending a little more time with it, I guess I got to the state where I understand what they were going for and started to respect it. Were it more realistic though, I don’t think a break-in period would have been needed.
      RBR definitely has positives, but from the user’s perspective today, it’s very much a speciality item for a very specific group of people. Unfortunately I’m not one of them since I don’t have a PC, and I won’t be getting one just for gaming.

      I assume you know how much RBR is liked in the sim community? In my eyes it’s downsides are an even bigger immersion killer. We all prioritize a bit differently.

    I think EA WRC is a good rally game, I just don't think it's a very good WRC game.... I never really felt like this was the Official WRC race season so much as I felt like I was playing the new DIRT rally game. That basically comes down to presentation, but with the work that Codemasters does with the F1 games, I was expecting, and really hoping, for this to give you the feeling of being a WRC Driver in your first season., and it fails at that.
    Solid rally game though.

    The field of view in WRC Generations is adjustable - what are you talking about? I call BS on the whole review. You are suddenly claiming EA WRC is the best thing ever - my suspicion is you have been approached by EA with legal threats over your original 'centre pivot' video. You ignore the incredible amount of detail in WRCG stages compared to the bland stages in EA with constantly repeating assets, you ignore the actual lighting in WRCG instead of the flat lighting in EA, and the fact that in WRCG the cars have actual suspension travel compared to EA which move like shopping trolleys in the replays. There is no mud build-up on cars in EA, and almost every feature is not working properly. Give us a break.
    Edit: "WRCG's roads are flat, while EA's are not" - Who are you trying to kid??

      @synnikel 6 місяців тому +2

      I've enjoyed the wrc games in the past as well but imo the stages really aren't anything to write home about especially in comparison to ea wrc in which the graphics and stages are pretty much on par

      No, I was approached by EA because my channel is so huge and influential, and they bribed me for $3mil so that I’d make a single positive video on their behalf. You got me. I’m now rich and I can do what I want.
      EA WRC isn’t the best thing ever, by a long shot. But it is the best rally, in my mind.
      Like I said, I just don’t see a difference in scenery detail that I could say is better or worse in my books. It’s ok if you do. I do see a difference in flickering due to the lack of anti-aliasing though.
      Repeating assets or what are bland stages in your opinion, don’t bother me. Why is that bad? If they bother you, that’s ok.
      Like I demonstrated in the video, the car lightning/shadows are clearly flatter on Gen, and much more realistic in EA. At least with the cars and sceneries that I tried.
      If you refer to my video with the suspension travel, like I said in the video, this was with the stiffest suspension settings. There’s definitely enough travel in EA WRC with usable settings.

    I think this 'boat' feeling in generations seems to be intentional maybe to make easier to be always sliding like we see pros doing - wich I HATE so much, cause if you want to be really fast in generations you're supposed to be sliding every time and pulling hand break like crazy (if you search for a fast run in yt thats what you'll see) so mega unrealistic since to break traction is NOT faster than make the car grip (tarmac)
    That along side with the poor sound made me quit playing it wich in unfortunate cause the stages are awesome

    Firstly the narrator that was called annoying in the vide is no other than the legendary voice of rally Becs Williams herself loved by many.
    Secondly I dont own Generations but own 9 and 10 and don't get why ppl complained that Kiltoton games looked bad and had horrible stutter issues and praised DR 2.0, But now EA WRC comes out with similar bugs, stuttering issues, missing features and problems (the 10 series cards still haven't had their texture shaderds fixed btw) and sing praise to it.
    The game also doesn't look too much better than Kilton games and objectively runs worse when you don't have the best gpu. I know my 1080 is old but my friends with their 30 series cards say it runs bad for them as well (pretty bad for a game that looks worse than DR 2.0),. I wont lie I i still think Kiloton and the new EA games both decent but this is straight out fanboyism imo calling the new game far superior.
    It killed the only competitor there was for rally games and when there is no competition there wont be no desire for innovation and push the game to be the best there is which is evident when the game is worse than previous dirt rally games the stages are gooood though and there is even no point to argue about sound ..... except let us turn up the co-driver voice i cant hear shit even with all the other sounds set to the lowest there is. I was hyped for the Codmasters game even preordered but I expected better and am a wee bit disappointed in it and more dissapointed in fanboys.

    • @mrelwoodgames5971
      @mrelwoodgames5971  6 місяців тому

      Yes, I know the DR2.0 co-driver was very famous and all. But his fame doesn’t make it any easier for a foreigner to try and understand him.
      When talking about graphics, there is the quality of the graphical elements, and then there are the graphics bugs that cause stuttering. You need to be more precise when talking about which is “better”, do you mean the underlying graphics themselves or the bugs? It’s obvious that EA WRC still has bugs that cause stuttering, but the underlying graphics is what people are on the fence about. Probably every one having any stuttering is disappointed for those, but probably not in the game itself.
      For the rest of the game. It’s clear that it has more straight out bugs than Gen, but EA WRC is still easily the best rally game we’ve now got. The physics are much more real, which is what many consider the bread and butter of a racing game.
      And liking EA WRC more than Gen doesn’t make anyone a fanboy. You can like something without being a fanboy. What is fanboyism though is to call out on what others like as being fanboyism if it disagrees with what you like.

    People have been so used to having tires that lack any bite in rally games, that they think this is how rally tires behave irl. Now that EA WRC has finally tried to do something about it, it's somehow considered unrealistic by many...

    WRC 9 was the best game from KT Racing, but even that game doesn't come even close to the ea sports wrc. Generations is the most broken game from KT, if you defend this game you didn't play the game. Everybody was trashing KT Racing WRC , now all the sudden people tend to trash the ea sports wrc. I'm glad codemasters got the license, this first game is already a huge step in the right direction. Sound,car design , real stages , handling , stage degradation, even championship mode is back. Since WRC 7 there was no championship mode.

    you dont know how to play wrc generations. Setup the thumb sensivity to -10 and dead zone to 50%. And change the linear input on every button. Set dead zone on throttle and break to 50% as well. Use Hard tarmac tires like 99% of the time. I played both wrc G and EA wrc.... EA sucks compared to Generations or even wrc 10. You just need to know what you are doing on a controller. Try those games with a steering wheel. WRC G and 10 is king. EA sucks ;/
