    Good job! I currently picked up the same model for the same price off facebook marketplace. The listing stated works but shuts down due to overheating. I quickly found out it is the same issue you have a faulty fan. This PS4 has been previously opened because it’s missing a single torx screw. I have already ordered the replacement fan. This will be my 2nd PS4 clean/restoration project. I’ve previously cleaned/restored a PS4 Slim. I replaced all thermal pads, thermal paste, cmos battery and installed a 2TB SSD. I plan on doing the same to this PS4 possibly only installing a 1TB SSD in this model.

    For that money that is a great deal. And great job in fixing it. The fan should be opened from the back side. Just like the old PC fan. They used to have a rubber plug that after removing it gave access to an C clip that held the shaft in place.

    Nice find.
    You should also always clean the round rubber on the spindle motor when cleaning an optical assembly. (q-tip and alcohol) That makes the disk stick while rotating.

    This console wasn't the worst i ever seen.
    Got an xbox 360 that had way more dust but mostly cat hairs inside, the controllers had half a packet of crisps and beer residu inside.
    The older consoles are way cleaner to work on.
    The fan probably has a clip on the other side of the shaft, drilling open the centre on that side should give access to that.
    Worst case there is some nice copper wire for trace repair inside of it👍

      @@samuraidriver4x4 Unfortunately. To be honest I kind of understand them: I can do this myself but if you need to pay someone, it might not be worth. @@tony359 indeed, repairs also got alot more expensive because they are difficult due to SMD components.
      If a transistor in the TX amplifier of a CB burned out it was an easy job but replacing a USB-C port is a whole other ballgame making it alot more expensive.
      I doubt sony wants their customers cleaning a heatsinks because they rather sell a new console.😂

    My ps4 has overheating problem not even 3mins has passed it suddenly turns off with a warning sign of overheating. So, I tried opening it and cleaning all of its components and putting thermal paste, done it all for the first time. Still overheating, but improved I tried stay idle in a game for more than 30mins. So, I tried changing the fan, the thermal pad looks still okay not dry so not changing it and now it's good no jet engine noise and there's no burning like smell (the power cord is not the problem and so the outlet because its not hot). Beside the fan the cause of overheating might be the wires not properly connected, screwing too tightly, loose power cord, too much thermal paste on cpu or too thick thermal pads. In addition, when putting thermal paste put a little bit more in the middle of cpu and dont use liquid thermal paste they say its bad for ps4. If one thermal pad has crack change it too.

      Nobody can! What I can say is that if you just remove the bottom cover, you can see the fan and you should be able to see the heatsink through the fan. You can remove the bulk of the dirt with some tool. You'll need a torx tool to remove the screws at the back. But nobody can assure you nothing will go wrong! If not mistaken you can save a backup of your game situation on the cloud, make sure you do that before you do anything! Thanks for watching and good luck!

    • @tony359
      @tony359  Місяць тому

      the fact that it was working before makes me think something went wrong with the disassembly/assembly. I think the PS4 PSU should make a CLICK when it starts. But when you plug the power lead it should output 5V.
      Do you hear a BEEP when you press the on button? If not, make sure you get 5V at that little lead going from the PSU to the motherboard. If you do hear a BEEP, well then the PSU should start and you should hear a "click". You can try with the PSU removed from the PS4 - but still attached by the small/short lead, that's the 5V and ON/OFF. If you can measure 12V out of it, then there is a issue on the board. If you hear BEEP and no click and no 12V, then maybe you need a new PSU. Of course be careful with PSUs, don't open it and you take all the responsibilities (sorry, I have to say that!)

    • @mahuede
      @mahuede 25 днів тому

      @ hi sir, well i tried mounting a new psu but the same thing is happening. When click the ON button al i hear is a beep and a blue flashight, no CLICK and it turns off😭 i am kinda clueless of what i should do now

    • @tony359
      @tony359  25 днів тому

      @@mahuede Sorry to hear that. It could be a bit of everything I'm afraid. You need to start looking at voltages. Do you have 12V coming out of the power supply?
      Because the PS4 was working before, make sure all the wires are back where they should be.
      Because the PS4 tries to start, it means the 5V cable is in. Something might be shorted? The PS4 turning off immediately seems to suggest a short.
      Though you'd hear the CLICK from the PSU for a moment. No click = no 12V (I think). This is a basic circuit, the PSU is turned on by the PS4 via that 4 (or 5?) pins wire going from the motherboard to the PSU. That carries 5V and also the "12V ON" signal.
      If you try to turn on the PS4 with the PSU removed from the case - but still wired with the 4-pin cable, you should get 12V for a moment before the PS4 turns off.
      Good luck.

    • @tony359
      @tony359  Рік тому

      The PS4 does not have a "heat spreader" that can go wrong so I suspect two things
      1. Error in re-assembling
      2. Memory thermal pads are misplaced or too thick (did you replace them?) and they prevent the heatsink from touching the actual CPU.
      You can TEMPORARILY trying without the memory thermal pads to test.

      It was! I can't imagine how abused it has been when they were running games on it!

      My experience is limited with PS4 but I guess you're not re-assembling it correctly. Have you replaced the RAM pads by any chance? If they're too thick, the CPU won't be allowed to sit on the heatsink properly. Does the PS4 overheats straight away or after a while?

      @tony359 if I start playing a game after a minute of playing the game it's flashing red saying its over heating maybe I may need to get it cleaned professionally

      Is the fan spinning? The fan connector is very fragile. Do you hear the fan spinning faster and faster? It will get VERY loud when it's overheating. When that happens, do you feel hot air coming out at the back of the PS4?
