Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0L - First Drive Review! Modern Classics Ep 8
Вставка
- Опубліковано 21 лип 2024
- This is the Porsche GT3 RS 4.0L - one of just 600 cars made to celebrate the last of the Mezger engines in the 997 Porsche platform. The 4.0L engine took the power of the final edition GT3 RS to 493hp with an additional 21lb/ft torque and a further 10kg weight saving over the 3.8L Porsche GT3 RS. The internals of the engine were taken from the Porsche RSR race car of the time, giving the GT3 RS titanium con-rods and the same race developed block. The motorsport DNA was also carried over to the suspension with the use of solid mounted rose joints and revised damping for a more track focussed drive.
Here is how the legendary Porsche GT3 RS 4.0L drives...

This is one of the best automotive series ever.
I agree 100%! It's amazing and he does such a great work filming it!
Mercedes benz SLS AMG Black Series Please please please please
yes please
Sls Blackseries please Mr JWW
anthony dobbelaere thats what i have commented about.... i really wanna see that car and get a review from the wonderful British vocabulary of James
Murcielago SV you would prolly fall in love and buy one.
Not a bad way to start the day, a Mr. JWW video!
This series is pure fire.. You're killing it dude!
Yes James! Even when commenting suggesting this car I knew it would already be on your list!
Great video, James. Lots of useful information. Impeccable presentation on this one. Not too zany, just no-nonsense Porsche goodness.
Now you should review the 911 GT2 RS 997.2!!!
Pedro Leão Jamesy pls do this
Thankyou James, I can now stop leaving comments suggesting you drive a GT3 RS 4.0 for the Modern Classics series 😂👍
James, go for an NSX-R NA2 (I believe it's my eighth time commenting) you won't be disappointed
Also a great car, but not easy to source one and GBPJPY has collapsed over the last two years
Rather than always repeatedly requesting, why don't someone find owner of the nsx r or anything else that willing to lend their cars for review? It bugs me to see those type of comments. I mean I'm already impressed james find all those cars in his series of review. They're not easy to find let alone easy to drive around.
seen through glass has a video on one now!
Excellent stuff! You really should try to get an E90 M3 Carbon Racing Technology if possible! Only 67 were made.
Noting special about BMW
Here is some other modern classics you should do a video about 560 sec amg, 190-2.5, mk2 golf gti, mk4 golf r32, maybe even a Mercedes w140 s600 or a s70 if you can find one. I think that cars value will jump in couple of years because its the last Mercedes where engineers had more influence over accountants and cars were built with little regard to material and production cost, and lets not forget it was designed by Bruno Sacco.
Of course they were designed with regard to "materials and production costs". I know what you're inferring here. The W220 had more development costs for the new materials and polymers, etc., and production methods than the 140 ever did (all to save weight and compete with the aluminum A8). Nearly 300 patents were filed on behalf of the 220. The 220 was the most innovative and expensive car for them to develop in recent history.
The exterior tour really ties the series together, I'm glad you truly listen to your fans unlike many others. Keep up the good work as always.
I paused at 2 seconds for this comment. I was hoping you'd do this car. I got a white 2012 4.0 for $20k over sticker when a collector backed out. I was actually going in looking for a regular RS, walked out with this car, fell head over heels, and I don't even care that it's skyrocketed in value, because I daily and track drive this car like value doesn't mean a thing. It's the epitome of an analog car.
smminco I salute you! How many miles do you have on it now?
@@porschecollector727 59,000. But that's also taking into consideration there are a couple other cars that I weekend drive/track. But looking back, I can't believe the dealer just let me have it for 20k over. And I'm betting the guy who backed out is really kicking himself.
@@porschecollector727 not to mention, I almost didn't go to look at the RS at all, because I really didn't wanna get rid of my sure cooled Porsche at the time, and I couldn't even come close to being able to afford both.
No such thing as 2012, only 2011 model year
I've never really understood why older people adore classic cars, but watching these videos has given me some perspective. I know when I get older I'll remember these cars as classics.
Am I an older person now? 😭😂
Ian Alonso dude ,you don’t have to be older to adore classics 😂
these videos prove time and again that Mr jww was, is, and always will be the most classiest ,suave and the best automotive you tuber and automobile journalist in the world, with the only exception of perhaps the old top gear cast and Chris Harris!
Loving this new series, James. Great idea and execution. Looking forward to more content.
Superb as always James. The best so far.
Your modern classic series is killing it. You are driving the best cars with cinema levels of quality and editing. Great job James
Thank you James, brilliant as always. It’s the editing and continuity that adds to your series. How about Peugeot 205 GTI.
What a stunning video JWW!!!! Well done sir! Porsche is king! Nuff said
Brilliant MrJWW. Love this series of classics!
That was great a great review, love that car......good work !
One of the sickest cars ever made
I like how you asked whether to do exterior specs before driving and then actually doing it.
Great job @MrJWW
Awesome work as always James. You take us all on a ride without BS of the “other” UA-camrs & we thank you for that. WHAT A CAR mate.
This is next level content compared to everyone else! Keep it up this is fantastic!
A review of the 996 GT3 would be awesome!
Porsche 997 GT2RS? 🤔
I'm loving this series! It has become one where when I see a new video, I watch it regardless of the car featured
Such a great video! Modern classics series is THE BESTTTT!!!
I'm glad you're doing this serie, these cars needed more coverage from today's stand point !
Brilliant video as always on such a special porsche . Well done MR JWW 👌🏾
James, a fantastic choice of a modern classic. A true drivers car to engage with. Bravo
Fantastic video. JWW definitely way ahead of the rest
Thanks for that amazing series modern/classics!!!
Get one omg. Great video as always
Really like these modern classic episodes!
Fantastic car buddy... Great series please don't stop
I 've been waiting for this one for a long time....since you started this serie i have to confess ! This is the ultimate road car for me i dream abaout it every single day since it's been released !
I hope i'll get a 3.8 RS next year to get closer from this one, but if i win the lotery i swap it for a 4.0 instantly!
Thanks james for this video, you're the best car youtuber, keep going man ;-)
Finally James, THE car I’ve been waiting for 👍🏻
Awesome as always.
James I caught that you went to get in the driver's seat on the wrong side lol! Great video as always and I love that perspective of being on the outside drivers window looking in and seeing the road simply brilliantly done!!
Another cracking episode James!
Nobel m600 a car still made but the overall design isn't new. People who drive it love it
Good video JWW! Perfect roads to drive these cars, and shame about the weather conditions...
Not a Porsche fan, however cannot be denying, this is a very very special car.
What about something completely different James? A Renault Clio V6! Would love to see that.
Clio Williams
@@888mf4 both would be even more special!
When I make some money, I'm coming back to rewatch this series and choose my fleet of cars!!
That engine just sings... what a delightful tone it have... epic!
Love the Modern Classics series!
Still the best gt3 rs to date. It’s a manual, what a dream
I find it interesting James subs have really increased during this series whilst Sams have barely crept up for “drive the world “ which I also like. Really interesting reviews of genuinely cool cars James, well done✔️
Pure quality as usual
Episode 8 the best yet because Porsche. Again top top quality and again Porsche
Murcielago roadster 6speed manual, 355 6 speed manual, 550 Barchetta 6 speed manual,6 speed Gallardo Superleggera or 6 speed Balboni 550, 2005 NSX, 6 speed Ferrari Superamerica, Ferrari V12 612 Scaglietti 6speed manual- with an aftermarket exhaust they sound amazing, Diablo, 996 Porsche GT2 RS, 997 Porsche Turbo Mezger engine, 996 GT3 RS, Maybe the 430-16M- The sound is incredible with the top down,2012 Mercedes SL65 AMG, SLR McLaren, 2006 Maserati Gransport MC, 07 Aston Martin V-12 Vanquish, 2011 Aston Martin dbs, F50 Ferrari, Enzo. Those are some incredible cars. Hope you get them on the channel. Thanks for all the content that you have provided and will provide. Good luck with everything!
I think another interesting comparison would be the Porsche Cayman R, another very lightweight care and perfect for British roads. If you could get your hands on one of those i think that would be class!
This place is literally up the road from me. Amazing car. Awesome video 👏🏻👏🏻
Bro where are the roads you test cars on?
All over the country / despite this video looking good, it really wasn’t 😂 crap road surface and loads of traffic 🤷🏻♂️ go to Scotland our deepest Wales if you really want it
I totally agree but then again Ashridge is soooooooooooo much closer. Live and work in Berkhamsted so love the views you are giving us. :)
You want roads worse than the UK? Come to Finland. In the winter (as in right now) we are driving on an ice rink. Spring we have giant holes due to the ice heave under the roads. And in the summer...... remember that only 40% or roads are asphalt in Finland. All “fun” in various ways in a Cayenne S :) Bad roads are not always “bad”
@@morganmobiletto yeah so come to Bulgaria and try our "roads"... they are crap :)
James, brilliant review first of all! With so much hype about the 991 GT2 RS, it's predecessor and my personal favorite, the 997.2 GT2 RS sadly seems to be forgotten. Don't think us old school enthusiasts didn't see that silver one behind you in the closing scene, so I'm hoping you will be reviewing the widow maker !!!
By far one of the most extreme and appreciated track-focused cars I've seen to date even on the roads of Boston while going to grad school and cars and coffee events.. My dream...
Best 911 of all time, also when is the Murciélago SV vídeo coming😁
Loving this series!!
i was waiting for this video for so long !!!!
Great review James! I’m a Porsche fanboy and this could be my favorite Porsche of all time so this video is extra special to me. Also is there a CGT coming in this series because I think it’s the car that perfectly describes this series. Keep up the great videos!
Great series. One of the best porches made.
Glad you enjoyed it
Thease modern classic videos are outstanding! That 4.0 is really a different beast than the 3.8.
Niice! Oooh that 996 GT2! Love to see that one!
Hard to get hold of but some old group B rally cars would be awesome to see on the channel 205 T16, RS200, Audi quattro and metro 6R4
Funny you showing my grey/gold 3.8GT3RS at JZM. Totally unique those 997 RS’s.
Now that's just a car you need in life , beautiful, nicely done 🤗
Do the JDM legends Supra, NSX, RX7, GTRs that would be fun to see.
I honestly think the TDF should go and make a place for a CGT..
A Porsche 993 GT2 or Carrera RS would be a great car for your modern classic series!
Awesome mate, i'd been looking forward to this one, having just bought a 997.2. The 4.0 is THE dream! I'd love to see some sort of VW Golf next - a Rallye, a Limited (G60 16V) ..as Golf R's are so popular these days it'd be great to see the cars that they were evolved from, 4WD with forced induction in a small hatchback has been around for longer than a lot of people may realise.
Love the car and vid! As far as other modern classics, maybe it's just the American blood running through my veins, but I keep thinking the C6 Corvette Z06, with the 7.0L NA V8 and the carbon package, will be a future classic. I doubt you could find one of those to play with over there, but it would certainly be interesting to see someday and hear your thoughts. Keep up the amazing videos!
Modern classics is the best series! 4.0 is definitely a beast
Probably one of my favorite 911 model. I saw Salomondrins black one back in the CUP days
would be really interesting to hear your thoughts on the steering feel between the 4.0L and your 991.2 GT3... Cheers
Awesome Video of hands down the most awesome car!! (In my opinion, of course). Great work James! A bit off topic but I had no idea that European Spec 997.1 PCM's were different than American Spec 997.2 PCM's. Pure Blue 997.2 Speedster is in the works for me at the moment because as much as I idolize the RS 4.0, you might as well buy a CGT for that money.
Purely epic. Please don’t ever get rid of your Porsche.
Enjoyed that James👍🇦🇺
Loves playing with the box
Top video always!! 👌🏻 would love to see a c63 black series in your series :)
God bless you James👊🏽👊🏽👊🏽
I finally got to drive one at a track. No hipe this car is incredible! 🤤 Life goals 😂
Another great modern classic video. If you can find one, how about a Porsche 914 2.0/6 next?
Very cool!! This could as well be your all time car which you talked about a while ago, manual, special and rare.. perfect choise I would say 😉
Such a beautiful car!! One of the best 911’s ever!!
Very cool as always, James. Because you've asked about getting a classic sports car: This might be it!
How do you not have 1m subscribers! Brilliant.
Without a doubt in my top 3 favourite Porsche’s
This is the best car of the series yet. Love it!
Thanks for the support, awesome to hear!
keep up the Porsche content!!!
Awesome Video! Also, I love you sweater!! Which Brand is it?
Ooooohhhh that white spec is LIT silver/red trim!
The day I win the Lotto I will go straight to shop for one of those! Nice Video of a dream car!
After a year or so you sell it because You cant pay for it anymore....
This channel, deserves to have a 1m subs
Absolutely Lovely, I have no other words for it...
