The conversation about sand shows the difference in how Anakin and Padme grew up.
To Padme, sand is no different then what you find on the beach on a beautiful day. To Anakin, sand represents nothing but his terrible childhood, he knows nothing positive of it.
Aye, there's a clear class difference and upbringing between them which the dialogue reflects.
I was just goning to say - it's actually a really sad line. The delivery and its placement in their conversation is a bit strange to most people, I think, so it's been turned into a massive meme as if it's nothing but a really bad pick-up line lol. It's not
That line basically holds Anakin's life-long trauma of living in harsh conditions on Tatooine
Holy shit... people are really doing this? I can't tell if this is a joke or not.
@@Xehanort10 It can be both a deep metaphor and terrible writing at the same time, you know. Why else would George have written it, if not to have it represent the harsh conditions of Anakin's childhood?
thinking about it, anakin's a nature born tinkerer. he likes to fix and build things. but sand is a nightmare for folks like him. its rough and course and gets everywhere. it fucks up machines. for ani, tinkering was a way out of his life as a slave but the sand makes things harder for him.
"You're the closest thing I have to a father."
'Then why don't you listen to me?'
"You're the closest thing I have to a father 😂"
😂😂😂😂😂
As a parent, I feel that
Nice "it reminds me of Lord of the Rings" then 10 seconds later Christopher Lee walks on screen.
Christopher Lee actually knew Tolkien
Sir Christopher Lee truly was an incredible man. This word gets thrown around too much, but he was an absolute legend, in the truest sense of the word.
@@michaelcohen4513I’m not surprised he was born 1922
I think the one positive takeaway we can have from Shmi Skywalkers life is that her last years were spent in an appearantly happy marriage and she knew her son was taken care of . And in the end she at least got to see him. RIP Shmi - Mother of the Chosen One
To answer your question Clone troopers became Stormtroopers for the Empire once it replaced the Republic but were quickly phased out and replaced by regular humans who were conscripted or volunteered
That's spoilers
That’s not a spoiler that been the Story for 25 years. They (Disney) only recently explained what happened in “their” canon.
@@the98themperoroftheholybri33It’s literally mentioned in this episode that the clones age twice the rate of normal humans, albeit many people don’t think about that at the time but in retrospect it should be logical to conclude that they would be past military fighting age at the time of the original trilogy
@@brucechmiel7964 Bruh why you so hurt.
@@adeptusfantastlcus Im not. I’m simply pointing out the flaw in calling something a spoiler when it’s not.
The Jedi are taken from their families when they are very young so they can not form an attachment to their families. That is why Anakin was "too old" to begin training in Ep. 1. Great reaction!!!!
I have to admit. It's one of the things that makes me dislike the prequel Jedi more than the way they're presented in the original movies.
@@grendeltech Worked fine for a 1000 years. And we know what happened when that rule was broken with the little Vader.
And yes, I know it was not the only way as Luke later proved with his order, but you can't argue much with the results.
@@hedinsee6830 The Force... has a Will of its own, independent of the Jedi and also of the Sith:
- Why was Anakin immaculately conceived in the outer rim territories, where the Jedi wouldn't find him until it was "too late" (too late to prevent him from forming attachments?) ...Because that was what The Force wanted all along - a rogue Jedi, uniquely powerful while also uniquely vulnerable to love, attachment and to emotional manipulation in a way that no other Jedi was - bait for Palpatine!
- Padme, in eps I and in the first part of ep II, is presented as a serious young woman, living in incredibly dangerous times. How much sense does it make that she would decide to go not only into seclusion, but also to incredibly romantic settings, and wear unusually seductive clothing in front of her bodyguard/ chaperone (Anakin)... it would be the opposite of common sense. But it would make perfect sense if the Force were influencing her (and maybe him), to get a pre-arranged outcome.
- We knew that the Sandpeople were dangerous, but the only time we ever hear of them raiding a human moisture farm, is when Shmi is kidnapped. Why kidnap and hold a human? It can't be for money, as the moisture farmers have none, and also, the Sandpeople are pre-money... on a level somewhere between chimps and humans. But, their taking Shmi would make perfect sense, if the Force needed a pre-arranged outcome (Anakin losing his mom, setting up his all-consuming obsession with not losing Padme...)
(Edit - additional - )
- Why did the Jedi not return to Tatooine and free Shmi Skywalker immediately after the events of Episode I ? That they would NOT do this for Anakin - one of their own - makes the Jedi seem incredibly indifferent and cruel. (If they were worried about Anakin's continued attachment to his mom, they could have freed her, under the condition that she'd agree to stay away from Anakin.) ...But, this confusing, inexplicably cruel inaction on the part of the Jedi, would make perfect sense if their judgement were being manipulated by the Force, which - once again - needed Shmi to remain in place, as a slave, on Tatooine, so that a pre-arranged outcome would occur.
@@grendeltech How the Jedi are shown to operate in the prequels is why I totally buy Luke's choices in episode 8.
@@Swenglish there is no such thing as Luke 8 episode choices!
Who wouldn’t be obsessed with Natalie. I mean come on….

When Padme and Anakin are sat in a field talking about politics, Anakin subconsciously describes exactly what the empire is in the originals, he (as Vader) is the guy who "makes them" agree
Yeah, Anakin always supported it on some level.
Remember Anakin is 19, and spent his life up to that point first as a slave, then as a member of a group of warrior monks who do not allow attachments. He has zero expire of with women outside of other Jedi at this point.
@@Xehanort10That's not what he says, you're being willfully uncharitable.
@@Xehanort10 Maybe they found creepers attractive... long, long ago... in a galaxy far, far away... haha!

@@Xehanort10You have clearly never spent time around teenagers. Angsty, unsocialized teens will say shit like that all the time.
I dont know if its canon anymore, but it used to be that part of the reason the Jedis ability to use the force in certain ways had diminished by this point is because the current jedi temple was built over the remains of a Sith one to try and limit the dark side energies coming from it, but it backfired on them and was negatively effecting them instead
I... THINK that's still canon?
Obi : You made a commitment to the Jedi Order, one not easily broken
also Obi : have you said the word, I would´ve left the Order.
That doesn't invalidate his point his words. All he was saying was that don't break your word without one hell of a good reason.
@@Adanu191 I think Anakin would have left the order to openly be with her after the war, but the war ended differently than anyone expected. (Apart from the now-emperor, of course, Sheev had a plan for every way in which things could have played out.)
@@Adanu191 sure, but it "invalidates" Obi as a Mentor a bit more cause he dont be acting like he preaching. For me ...
@@mrwatermelo50 Without going into spoilers, he was not ready to deal with someone like Anakin, and it shows.
@@karsoban9150 Oh yeah, Obi-Wan had known for a while and was kindly pretending not to. They weren't THAT good at hiding their relationship.
Let's be honest, Padme knows what's she's doing. I mean dressing like that in front of Anikin.
Of course she does, she wants Anakin‘s lightsaber so bad
"Oh, this old thing? I only wear it when I don't care how I look."
Of course she does, she knows what to do

Many thanks to Meg (and Caleb's editing)! ♊ Clone troopers aren't exactly stormtroopers. Clones were expensive to produce, so after the Clone Wars, the as-yet-to-be-formed Empire switched to conscripted soldiers. You'll see that process unfold if you ever watch the animated series. And you'll learn much more about 'Boba' when you get around to watching THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT (2021)!
Or literally the original trilogy :P I suspect she just hasn't remembered where she saw that armour in episodes 5 and 6.
@@thomasjoychild4962 I bet Caleb is reminding her of all that stuff after he sees the footage.
Book of Boba Fett is hot garbage.
@@FuckUA-camAndGoogle Not everyone agrees with you.
@@auntvesuvi3872 I know not everyone has good taste, that's why Star Wars has been trash for over a decade.
The more Disney spams us with desert planets and tatooine, the more Anakin’s sand line becomes way too relatable
And here you can see a young uncle Owen and aunt Beru, who took care of Luke.
Boba..... Boba Fett........ as in the Bounty Hunter that took Frozen Han Solo to Jabba from Cloud City! :)
Thirst for Anakin is strong with this one🙌🏻
If I recall, both Qui-Gon and Padme made attempts to free Shmi Skywalker. Qui-Gon sent a Jedi messenger with news that Anakin had been accepted into the Jedi Order and gifted her a valuable artifact (the same artifact that Cliegg Lars would use to buy her from Watto). Padme sent her handmaidens and royal guard after she left the throne to free Shmi with her own money, but at that point she had already been sold to Cliegg, and Watto wouldn't tell the Naboo what happened to his former slave.
I just love how much fun Caleb is having with the editing !! 😄 another great reaction Meg... Cheers !
Meg, finally, it looks like you are having fun. That scene where Anakin and Padme were sitting on the grass, waterfalls in the background. When I saw this in the theaters, I said “that’s it! This is the one!” When Darth Vader was dying in ROTJ and Luke removed his helmet, when Vader took his first breath free of the dark side, this is what he smelled, the scents and memory of that moment. He remembered Padme as he looked at Luke. I cried reading that part.
I don’t like sand, it’s coarse, rough and irritating; and it’s gets everywhere…
Peak dialogue.
@@anthonydelossantos7576, the prequels suck just a much as the sequels. This is coming from someone who doesn’t like the sequels either. I’d say like 75 percent of Stars Wars is not great. But if you like these movies. Good for you

This whole film definitely feels strange when you consider it's context being released in a post-911 world. It begins with an attack on a transport on a tower high in the clouds, and ends with an army invading a desert swept land...
Lucas definitely knew what he was doing. He said himself that the empire was portraying the imperial nature of the U.S post ww2 even though ppl say he was portraying the Nazis.
@@paul2523a Aye. Or to be more exact, Lucas used the empire/republic to represent all forms of governmental authority in history (Nazi Germany, USA, British empire, Roman empire) and the rebellion to represent all forms of governmental resistance in history (Viet Cong, WW2 resistance fighters)
In other words, he created archetypes of the government and anti-government.
@@paul2523a They say that mostly because of the internal goings on it the senate that lead to Palpatine becoming emporer, because those are just pretty much a carbon copy of Hitler's rise to power.
But looking at the actual shape of the empire, and what it does outside of the senate, it does fit lots of imperial nations across history.
You notice in this movie that Obi is more of a brother than a father to Anakin which is why Anakin looks up to Palpatine and is so close to him. Ani needed Qui Gon.
Yep! Obi-Wan DID prove ready for knighthood when forcibly tested in the confrontation with Maul, but he needed time to grow into the role and comfortably define that version of himself before he taught a padawan of his own. He absolutely knows it later, too.
caleb, ya really got me with the

Your reactions are utterly cute. This is so fun, re-watching these with you. Caleb is wonderful at his editing, too. You two are a really sweet couple. ❤❤❤❤
In Brazil Dooku changed to Dookan, cause his original name in portuguese sounds like "Conde do Cu/Count of the Ass"
Oh wow 🤯
@MegMageReacts question are you going to watch clone war seires also you will have yo look up right watch order becouse ther not in right order?
We are! We actually already watched Cat and Mouse (the reaction is on patreon), and we plan on moving through the series a little faster than other shows we’ve watched!
@MegMageReacts question when will it be posted on you tube do you have date just wondering that all?
I’m Brazilian and I confirm that this is true
7:55 Every little boy in the early 2000s (myself included) wanted to be just like Obi-Wan and Anakin.
Loved this reaction. I think episode 2 is so underrated. They nailed the Obi/Anakin relationship and it's a gorgeous movie
23:51 yep. Only in certain situations were they allowed to marry. As was the case for Ki-Adi-Mundi (the Jedi master with the elongated head that sits on the council next to Yoda) as his species was on the verge of extinction so he actually had multiple wives. But even with that rule, there were some Jedi that married both in legends and canon.
It's funny how they were allowed to form friendships but not fall in love. The whole "ignore your feelings" bs the Jedi enforced in this period was a huge factor in their downfall.
Great reaction! I also believe Ani is thinking of Padme when they are in the field and he is talking about a wise, powerful figure who makes all the decisions for a government. He has more faith in Padme than in anyone else. In fact, I think he is specifically basing his view on ideal leadership/politics on Padme's actions and what he witnessed during Episode I- his first exposure to any sort of politics beyond the brute force of slavery. After facing the corruption and impotency of the Senate on Coruscant, Padme unilaterally took control of the situation Naboo was in; doing what she thought was best, in the way she wanted, coming up with all the plans, and she saved her world and people. There was little to no discussion or negotiation, just action and decisiveness.
I really like Ewan's work as Obi-Wan doing an investigation in this movie. "That's.....why I'm here." :)
As you said, Obi-wan is struggling to be a brother figure to Anakin. However Anakin said when they went into the bar that obi-wan is the closest thing he has to a father. They had different expectations for their relationship.
Obi-Wan really did need some time to grow into being a jedi knight before he taught a padawan of his own.
'...you're going to be the death of me.' Yes, you heard that.
32:43 Count Dooku’s Sith name is Darth Tyrannus and that man is Jango Fett the template for the clone army. Sifo-dyas put in the order for the army without the Jedi’s knowledge and Palpatine saw this as a threat to his plans so he killed Sifo-Dyas and his newly appointed apprentice Dooku oversaw the construction of the army and chose Ava go fett as the template.
My guy.... can't you just wait until she figures things out when she watches Clone Wars???
Clieg didnt have an arranged marriage with shmi, he fell in love with her, freed her, and by choice she married him, even loved owen as a second son
You have to admit it sounds pretty suspicious if you don't know that to be true yet. Like "he freed and married her" okay and are we sure this wasn't conditional? As in "ill free you if you agree to marry me"? It's not a crazy assumption to make of a slave owner.
May the Force be with you Meg.

just for clarification stormtroopers in the times of the empire are normal humans that just trained to be in the military , those that u saw in this film and will see in the next one are called clone troopers.
Those stormtroopers were pretty much forced into it except for the ones who willingly volunteered.
@@passionsquietrage true
your reactions are literally the best!!
The reason why Padme isn't a queen anymore is that Naboo Kings and Queens aren't real royal. They're actually prime ministers or presidents with term limits, the Naboo just kept kings and queens as titles for the position. I can't remember why but I do know it's explained in the novel Darth Plagueis (completely recommend by the way especially the audiobook).
The small kid, unaltered clon and son of Jango Fett, it´s Boba Fett, the bounty hunter who captured Han Solo and sold it to Jabba.
Just as I had suspected. There was far too much left to have only 10 minutes remaining at the Watto scene.
I will return when the last half is presented! 👿😉
It might be time for Meg to do a Fallen Order/Jedi Survivor run.
I think in the novelization of this movie it is shown that under the instructions of Darth Sidious, Dooku had the Tiskin Taiders kidnap Ani’s mom and torture her so he would feel the pain and get enraged to drive him to the dark side. If that is the case, it should have been put in the movie
Sidious was behind EVERYTHING, the sith scheme had a contingency for basically any possible way things could have gone down.
i love this movie a lot !! natalie and hayden bring me a lot of nostalgia lol, and natalie was one of my first crushes who was a woman so that had me losing it for a long while 😭 also anakin's sassyness always has me laughing, i love that they didnt take that trait away from him even as he got older
34:26 YES! The prequel trilogy is supposed to be viewed like a Shakespearian romantic tragedy~ Even Padme's outfit when they're sitting talking about politics in the wildflower field is very influenced by that~~~
Across The Stars AKA the Anidala Theme just might be my absolute favourite John Williams piece of all times. The Superman and Jurassic Park themes can take a seat at 2 and 3.
Talking about Lord of the Rings with Saruman sitting right there
Fun fact: Christian Bale(Batman) and Health Ledger(Joker) were considered to play Anakin before Hayden Christensen got the role.
So... you caught onto the dynamics right out the gate. The song for the final battle of Episode 1 is "Duel of the Fates." The fate in question is Anakin's, and the duel is of course between Maul and the Jedi but really it's between who will train Anakin: A father figure (Qui Gon) or a brother figure (Obi Wan). And of course you'll see how it plays out
I love that each Jedi/Sith in these movies has their own fighting style. Like Dooku, for example, uses a classic more formal fencing style of lightsaber combat(which is he why he did the dueling salute). His saber hilt is also a (sick) curved design to fit this style. Also, the sand line isn't a bad pick up line or cringe in any way. It was written to show the difference between them, sand reminds her of vacation while it reminds him of nothing but trauma and suffering. I don't see why people had an issue with it. And the clone troopers and stormtroopers aren't the same thing, except in the early days of the empire. Eventually, stormtroopers were either forced to join the Imperial Army or were like "Empire F*ck Yeah!!!" One last thing, the sonic charge is the COOLEST sound effect in all of Star Wars!
Qui-Gon in Phantom Menace: "Feel, don't think. Trust your instincts."
Obi-Wan in Attack of the Clones: "Use the Force, think!"
I'm sure this change in philosophy won't further confuse and alienate Anakin...
The thing with Anakin and Padme's relationship is it's not meant to be an ideal one, or even a HEALTHY one for that matter. It's two people from massively different upbringings who both have zero experience with intimacy because of it. One was raised as a slave with no agency of his own, and the other was forced to become the ruler of a planet when she was barely a teenager.
Obiwan sure spends alot of time hanging from high places.
yes you should watch The Clone Wars. Yes its worth it. and yes it will take a while but you'll be wanting more
cracks me up that you called Anakin "mature", like he's the most impulsive and inward Jedi when it comes down to it
He is arguably the greatest general of all time so there's some maturity to it
He would have been greater than all of them if the Jedi weren't so foolish. The Jedi are just as evil as the sith from a certain point of view
@@lordkai59He's not a general in this movie and its in this movie that he acts like an immature teenager.
@@Alexanderthegreat159A very lost point of view.
@@parkerboy795 It's only lost to you, but I agree
17:41 Best line in the entire Skywalker saga. Just say no (and use Jedi mind tricks), kids!
I've been waiting a long time for this
Jedi are taken at infancy when they discovered as Force sensitive. The parents are given a choice to relinquish them to the Jedi Order, but it is so the infants don’t form attachments to their birth parents if they are accepted, as it is a path to the Dark Side if that attachment is at risk of being lost. That is why Anakin was initially accepted into the Order when brought by Qui-Gon. Even if his mother was freed, she would not be able to go with Anakin when he became a Jedi, and Anakin would still end up in the same emotional state. Qui-Gon did say being a Jedi is a hard life.
It's also worth noting that the Jedi are currently going through a particularly puritanical interpretation-of-the-code period. They've gone back and forth a bit over their history, but there have absolutely been times when their interpretation was about accepting your emotions without being ruled by them rather than striving to not feel in the first place. Even in the prequels, it's clearly okay and even encouraged to care about your comrades and your padawan and to nurture the younglings in your care, though.
At one point, about 3500ish years before the movies, the jedi order had a Grand Master (Yoda's position in the prequels) who openly-ish had an adult son from a brief relationship in her youth. She hadn't raised him herself and they didn't have a parent-child relationship in the present, but he had her surname and they'd both acknowledge being related if asked. Romance and children were still very much Not Okay for jedi then, but nobody in the order ever mentions the grand master's son as an indicator that she, now, is of questionable merit to hold her position.
Amazing editing again, Caleb^^
Thank you!!! 🥹
- Caleb
Jedi are taken from their parents as infants/toddlers when identified with the ability. Therefore, they really don't have a recollection of their family and therefore do not have an attachment for something to happen like it did to Anakin.

We’ve all been there, showing out R2 Tamagotchi’s when a Naboo Royal cruiser explodes. Jarring stuff.
16:44 Well, there was going to be a game set on Coruscant called "Star Wars: 1313", but that got cancelled. The closest we have now is "Star Wars Jedi: Survivor", where the first level of the game is on Coruscant.
Qui-Gon left a huge hole in the force, and it took a long while to heal
The writing of Anikan's dialog while flirting with Padme is kind of cringe, however it would make sense that would be the case. The Jedi aren't supposed to have romantic attachments to anyone, so Ani hasn't been introduced to how romantic interactions are supposed to go. Obi and Yoda aren't giving him flirting tips. "Too strong you are coming on. Restraining order she may get."
Finally! Also nice shirt!
That's a good insight about the difference between Padme and Nute Gunray and their relationships with power.

After Anakin won the race and Watto lost everything, he had to "sell" Shmi. Lars... well, you'll find out. 😉
"ani? Little ani? Nah...HA it IS YOU!"
Also to say what alot of people were saying in Phantom Menace l. There was nothing Qui-Gon could do to free Shmii. He couldn't sneak her off of the planet cause she would of died by being blown up. He can't force Watto to give him her cause; 1) Jedi mind tricks don't work on him, and 2) Watto could put a bounty on him, alot of bounty hunters would of stopped them before leaving Tatooine.
So yes there was nothing that could of been done.
call me campy, but the way obi handeled the "death-sticks"-guy was a very qui-gon jinn way to go about things
It really helps understanding the Jedi by learning about the real-world philosophies that inspired them. There are aesthetic and stylistic influences from a LOT of things, but the actual teachings are most influenced by Buddhism (east) and Stoicism (west). Most people misunderstand what 'attachment' means and what it doesn't, and they also mistake Jedi as being about emotionlessness - while they are actually about compassion and you can see great examples of what they mean in Qui-Gon and Yoda, and how they treat others, care about things, etc - but without being controlled by or destroyed by emotion. Jedi powers are SO strong that, to not have a disciplined approach to feelings, it can lead to great evils (just watch "The Boys" for what the Jedi would be like without these strict rules).
This is exactly what should be focused on more in my opinion. Jedi and people who wield the Force have a much greater responsibility to master themselves and not let their desires and feelings run rampant, or else they doom those around them to more suffering. The Dark Side is a far more present entity in their lives because they can access and tap into it much easier than most. This is the tragedy of Anakin. He couldn't find it in himself to let go of what he was attached to.
Yoda has always been one of my favorite Jedi because of the clear compassion you see from him, particularly in this movie. I never really noticed, but I think this film might honestly be Yoda at some of his best. He is wise, witty, and full of charm in this first half alone.
@@a_fine_edition2746And yet people act like the Jedi forbid emotions. They don't. They try to control them. Not in a flawless way, but still.
May the force be with you
Something worth noting is that prior to the release of the Prequels, the idea of the Jedi being forbidden from having attachments wasn't known to anyone but Lucas. So you've got lots of stories by other creators in the old Expanded Universe/Legends continuity, where Jedi got married, had kids etc. Some of those same stories also hinted at the clones being the enemies of the Republic, so those of us who were kids growing up taking all of those stories as more or less gospel (so naive we were) we in for a bit of a rude awakening. One of the things that helped contribute to the rocky reception to the Prequals received I think.
Also the dialogue. To quote Harrison Ford, "you can write this **** but you can't SAY it!"
The dialogue isn't that bad
The edits are entertaining and hilarious. 😅
Why can’t jango Fett have a kid? His paternal instinct’s kicked in. Everybody needs someone to love.
Anakin saying he doesn't like sand makes sense as it reminds him of growing up as a slave on tatooine. The delivery of the line and the cringy nature of Anakins dialog is also intentional as he literally has no people skills and does not know how to talk to women after being immediately recruited as a jedi after ep1 and with how strict the order is on emotional attachments, they definitely would refrain from teaching him how to speak to women in fear of him developing attachments.
"it's like superman and lois. And Obi Won is Lois".
You are not wrong at all lol
Just a heads up... the Clone Troopers are NOT Stormtroopers, Stormtroopers were random citizens of the Galaxy that joined the Empire... the Clone Troopers are... well.... clones.... of a single individual obviously.
Man, now that you've reach this point im so excited for you to watch the animated series like The Clone Wars, Rebels, The Bad Batch, Tales of the Jedi... they give A LOT of context and expansion to both the Original Trilogy and the Prequel Trilogy.
That’s why Jedi are trained from such a young age. They’re taken from their families and instructed in the teachings. By that point, they’ve renounced all familial ties. It’s one reason they refused to train Anakin
The Novelization has it starting right after anakin 20th birthday.
Jango Fett is NOT a clone. The clones didn't infiltrate anything.
Sifo Dias is actually who ordered the Clone Army and he was killed before he told the Jedi Order. Clones are not Storm Troopers, between Episode 3 and 4 the Empire executes all the Clones and switches to Storm Troopers which are not anywhere near as effective.
Shmi was freed because her husband chose to. He chose to deactivate her device that would blow her up and married her out of love. And again, if they had taken her with Anakin, Watto would have blown her up. They physically COULD NOT free her then.
The only Jedi with knowledge of their parents is Anakin. All Jedi before Anakin were taken from their parents as soon as it was apparent they were force sensitive, before they would have any memories of them. To a Jedi their only family is the Jedi Order. Luke is the oldest to be a Padawan and he didn't remember his mother at all so the same applies to him. Though his uncle was like a father to him.
No these are clone troopers…the soldiers you are thinking of (storm troopers) come later in the story which are just normal people
