Thanks for the patience on this one, y'all. With what's going on in Gaza and the rest of the world, I know it's tough for us and others to try and live "normal" lives right now. Creativity and humor don't come easy at times, but we're so happy we get to explore this galaxy far far away with you. Please be kind, and FREE PALESTINE! 🍉 #ceasefirenow

It's honestly an easy mistake to make. There isn't really anything in this movie to suggest otherwise. The further you get into clone wars the more you will learn about the clones. And with time they have honestly become their own beloved characters. The transition from the republic to the empire, as well as the transition from clones to stromtroopers is further explored later in the Bad Batch. Watching you discover the animated shows is going to be amazing.

What I love most about Palpatine's "I love Democracy" speech beyond the typical meme, was the absolutely flawless acting from Ian. His eyes are completely dead and emotionless as he's talking about how much he "loves" the Republic. He could not care less about it all, he's just saying what he has to for them to obey.

fun fact: count dooku's saber style was created to be a hard counter to jedi fighting styles. while he was a jedi, dooku noticed that the padawans were being taught less and less to fight in saber to saber combat and more how to fight against blasters. he felt it was wrong to ignore this but the masters felt that since the sith were extinct, there was no need for such training. so dooku took advantage of this and created his fencing style of fighting, which attacked at odd angles and gaps where modern jedi couldn't handle. that's why he was considered the greatest lightsaber duelist in the galaxy and why, unless you were yoda or mace, jedi didn't duel him.

Something I noticed most people miss upon fist watching this one, but remember who Jango said hired him to be cloned? A man "named Tyranus". Darth Tyranus is Dooku's Sith identity as revealed in the end. Hence Dooku commisioned the Clone Army for the Republic he was fighting against.

    • @Progger11
      @Progger11 2 місяці тому +13

Eeehhhhhh..... Not exactly correct. Sifo Dias commissioned the army, but Dooku later killed him and took over the project, assuming the Tyranus name to further correspond with the Kaminoans and keep the project away from Jedi knowledge until the right moment.

Boba Fett appears as the bounty hunter that took Han in the end of Episode 5 and is in Jabba's place in Episode 6. You'll notice he's wearing his father's armor with a new paint job. His part in those movies is small, but he's a big character in the expanded material: shows, books, comics, etc. He is an unaltered "pure" clone so no growth acceleration, obedience implants, and advanced militarily education.

The tragedy of Anakin Skywalker is that his fall is all predicated by good intentions. He was a slave, wanted to be a Jedi so that he could save others from a similar fate, was unable to save his loved ones despite his power, so he always needed power more to save his remaining loved ones, the power was never enough.
His fall is completely understandable, completely sympathetic, and still completely monstrous by the end.

Dooku's true intentions may have been noble at an earlier point in time, but his mind has been corrupted by the Dark Side of the Force and his ambition for greater power. His offer to Obi-Wan for the two of them to join together against Darth Sidious is perfectly analogous to Vader's offer to Luke in Episode V. In both cases, we witness Sith lords (Dooku & Vader) who vacillate between either loyally serving their Sith master (Sidious/Palatine) or secretly plotting to overthrow him. That is the ever-conflicted nature of being a Sith apprentice, and we the audience are left always having to second guess from moment to moment the apprentice's true motive.

The Sith are constantly trying to overthrow each other. Their orthodoxy is that there are only two; a master and an apprentice, no more, no less. So when a Sith master takes an apprentice, he is always aware that his apprentice might try to kill him and become the master. So there is always this game going on between master and apprentice to see which one is going to end up killing the other. Remember in Empire strikes back, when Vader revealed himself to Luke, he wanted Luke to help him kill the Emperor and become Vader's apprentice. At the same time, the Emperor knew Luke had the potential to be more powerful than Vader and viewed Luke as a threat, so he either needed to destroy Luke or try to manipulate Vader so that Luke would kill Vader and become the Emperor's new apprentice.
In this movie, we see Count Dooku (Darth Tyrannis) trying to manipulate Obi Wan to join him and destroy Darth Sidious, at which point Dooku would become the Sith master and Obi Wan would be the apprentice. (Without giving away any spoilers this has consequences in the next movie.)

I think the most important thing to understand about the fence that is the light and dark side is the 'why' behind an action. Your assessment of the dark side is pretty accurate, as for the light, it's not the absence of emotion, rather being at peace with those emotions. While still being able to feel them, not letting them affect your judgment and actions. Yoda saved Anakin and Obi Wan because he was preserving sentient lifeforms, Anakin wanted to go back for Padme because of his attachment. Have really enjoyed watching your journey through these movies, looking forward to you exploring the shows as Clone Wars and Rebels are absolute works of art with some of the best writing in all of Star Wars. :D

The prequels do such a good job of mirroring Luke and Anakin’s journey. As you pointed out Anakin wanted to save Padme just like Luke wanted to save his friends. Anakin stopped which built resentment, while Luke went after his friends. They also both had their hands cut off in the ensuing battle. The last shot of Anakin and Padme together at their wedding with R2 and 3PO off to the side mirrors the final shot of Empire with Luke and Leia and the droids off to the side. Both unsure about what the future brings.

Temuera Morrison who plays Jango Fett also voices Boba Fett in the Disney rereleases of Empire Strikes Back, also playing him in the more modern shows. He also voices the characters in the Star Wars Video games. Temuera also plays the chief/father in the movie Moana. He was a good local New Zealand actor before that. Pretty good glow up and the fandom loves him for the most part. And yes, every clone trooper is him as well, giving him comparable screen/voice time to the main characters.

I want to add something that people seem to ignore regarding Anakin killing the Tusken children (and men and women). Tuskens are seen as savage raiders. They are legit considered animals that kill settlers and travelers. Now, this is not accurate, because they are actually very sentient and have a really meaningful culture and are not the savages that people make them out to be. But they are *seen* as such. So, I like to think that Padme did not see it the same way as if Anakin had said he killed children from a sentient race. So that's why she was so calm about it. That's my perspective on it at least.

Fun smidgen of trivia, Dooku was only the 20th known Jedi Knight to leave the Jedi Order. He is also currently the only of the 'Lost 20' to fall to the dark side and become a Sith. (Anakin's turn would make him the 21st)

Just because it's the truth, it doesn't mean it can't be manipulated. Dooku was telling the truth the whole time about Sidious, similarly to how Obi-wan was telling the truth to Luke about his father. Both instances are the truth being told, but were framed from a certain point of view to achieve the desired results.

There is an entire lore behind Clone Troopers and Stormtroopers. Eventually Stormtroopers are mostly enlisted citizens of the empire. For a short time clones are overlapped with enlisted. They talk about some of this in Rebels I believe. Too many different shows to remember. During the transitions between different times the clone troopers are eventually replaced by various enlisted.

  • @jackofalltraits2145
    @jackofalltraits2145 2 місяці тому +1

Great reaction as always. Loving your journey through a galaxy far, far away. I'd like to clarify and answer a few of your questions and points you brought up. Don't worry, their completely spoiler free.
One: Common misconception, the Clone Troopers aren't actually Storm Troopers. At least biologically. They were all cloned after Jango Fett (the best bounty hunter and ultimate soldier) but after the Clone Wars was finished and the Empire had come to power, the Emperor had no use for paying for expensive and hard to produce soldiers. And so, Storm Troopers are just child soldiers taken by the Empire to fight for the Emperor. The Clones paved the way for what the Storm Troopers would be.
Two: The whole Jedi 'no killing' rule comes down to if the opponent is armed and dangerous. This is why Luke not killing Vader is noble while Obi-Wan killing Maul and Mace killing Jango cool. One was disarmed and lost a hand, the other two were both armed and extremely dangerous at the time.
Three: Yoda summoned the Clones because (as it was revealed earlier in the film) the army was unofficially ordered by the Jedi Master Sifo-Dyas to be an army for the republic, should the Seperatists ever go to war with them. This order was intercepted and warped by Darth Tyranus aka Count Dooku under the order of Darth Sidious.
Four: Before he was a Seperatist supporter/Secret Sith lord, Dooku was a well respected jedi (one of Yoda's many apprentices and the master of Qui-Gon). Like Qui-Gon, Dooku saw the flaws of the modern Jedi order post the rise of the Republic and the fall of the Sith. Unlike Qui-Gon who tried to go back to original Jedi ways of compassion and heroism over solace and politics, Dooku fell down a darker path, learning of the corrupt nature of the Republic and leaving to become a strong supporter of the Seperatist movement against it. However, neither side knew he was a Sith Lord (to clarify if your on the light side, you aren't a jedi, and if your on the dark side, you aren't a sith. The Jedi and Sith are specific religions of the force, each focusing on one side more than the other) taught under the very manipulator that coaroaded the Senate.
Five: Boba Fett was in both Episode 5: The Empire Strikes Back and Episode 6: Return of the Jedi. He was the bounty hunter who followed Han, Leia, Chewie, and 3PO to Cloud City and the one who turned over Han's frozen carbonite form to Jabba the Hutt.
Six: That final scene where you brought up the imperial march, that scene is symbolically the beginnings of the Galactic Empire from the original trilogy.
Seven: I think it's well known that the whole concept and inception of Star Wars came from George Lucas's mind and he whished to bring it to the screen his way with Episode 4. After filming the first one though, George didn't want to lead another hellish production but he still wanted to continue his story. So while he did hire directors to handle Episode 5 and 6, he was still very much the storyteller and the man in charge. The directors were merely hired help to get his vision in theaters. By the time the prequels came around, George gave the offer of the directors chair to many big names, but all of them said "George, why don't you do it?" And so he gave in and directed all three of prequels.

“Your methods are fucked dude. But…”
That’s Dooku in a nutshell basically. lol
Always thought it kinda sad that every word he said to Obi-Wan when they met was 100% genuine and true. It was a moment where the Republic could’ve been saved, and where Dooku could’ve been saved, but Obi-Wan was too blinded by his loyalty to accept they were all being manipulated by the powers he trusted. Dooku is a great character and Christopher Lee absolutely rocks in the role. Of course, Star Wars is a collaborative sort of project with hundreds or thousands of different creators involved, so at times the character ranges from deeply nuanced to cartoonishly evil depending who is writing him today. But at his core he’s a tragic figure, just as much a pawn in the games of the Sith as everyone else despite being in a position to recognize that himself. Just powerless to actually challenge his master who he knows full well is full of crap. But he’s completely right about the corruption of the Republic, the waywardness of the Jedi, just his methods of trying to solve it all are deeply flawed and lead to so much hate and death.

Stormtroopers aren't clones, they're regular people that replaced the original Clone Army once those ran out.
Note that the Jedi / Republic using the Clone Army was all part of Palpatines plan to bootstrap the Empire by having the clones manufactured for the Jedi (supposedly), then discovered right on time to be used against the Separatists (who were themselves orchestrated by Palpatine of course).
Plus some extra details you'll discover in the next movie.

Your analysis on the subject of feelings and the jedi is very good! The thing Luke did differently, at least in the old lore, was allow and encourage the feelings of love and compassion and partnership, he even allowed marriage because he realized that feelings do actually inherently give a power up, just like how the sith use the opposite emotions in the darkside, giving into rage, power, greed etc

Regarding your musings on the nature of the Force, the Light Side and Dark Side, I am reminded of a quote from Dave Filoni (George Lucas' prodige) on the subject:
"Our agency to use the Force for ourselves creates evil, and the Dark Side; as something to be oppressive and destructive.
Rather than just the natural process of life and death. And then our commitment to being selfless, giving unto others - generates kindness and happiness and togetherness, and bonding. Not being afraid of the "other", of things outside of ourselves - that is the Light side of the force."

May the 4th be with you! The situations you were talking about were different. When Padme fell she was in no immediate danger and she made it just fine as we saw. When Luke wanted to go rescue Han and Leia Yoda knew it was a trap and if Luke and Leia both died there would be no one left to fight Darth Vader at all. So in both cases they were difficult choices that were not black or white and there was merit to both sides. There is merit to both sides of Yoda saving them instead of stopping Dokuu but my point is that it is more complicated than you seem to think at 1st glance.

And again...his mother was kidnapped by this tribe and tortured to death. Put in his shoes, how many of us would be able to control our anger/rage if our mother was kidnapped and tortured to death by a group of people? We would probably have similar reactions and want everyone there to suffer our rage.
