I've driven the Veloster N and the GTI. Honestly Hyundai has improved SO much. The interior in that car is stellar, and the infotainment in the N (all Hyundai) is amazing.
I love the look of old VW Bugs - but the reliability of the modern VWs in my experience (after owning 3) is crap! I’ve owned 2 Kia’s and the reliability is top notch! I will never go back to any German car!
I bought a GTI with the Manual. The clutch started slipping at 34k miles with no mods. I drove a manual RSX Type-S for 7 years with no clutch slip, so clutch slip was not caused by me. VW refused to fix despite being under warranty. So I traded it for a DSG, because clutch failure that early in a stock car was unacceptable. I ended up loving the DSG better. Its more fun to me because its faster and because launch mode. Plus its less likely to fail. CONCLUSION: Do not buy a manual GTI unless you're okay with having to putting a higher performing clutch, many others have had clutch failure early in the GTI too. The stock clutch in the GTI are too weak for the power this car has, but the stock DSG is nearly indestructible with being able to handle over 450 lbs of torque.
I have a 2018 GTI SE and I don't know about the GTI being a million times better looking. They are both nice and probably the same on reliability. Albert Biermann from BMW had a hand designing the i30N and Veloster N, so it does have German influence. Both great cars. If i30N was offered in the states I would have loved to try one.
@@conortrapani616 Similar in performance, but the rear seats make it a useless car for me so I would never buy it. I would have considered an I30N though.
First Straight Pipes video I watched was last year's GTI review. I ended up with a 2018 SE w/the DSG. No real complaints, I do not like the styling of the competition. The Golf gives you plenty of headroom and practicality with decent performance and solid comfort for short and long hauls. I think it has the right amount of power for a FWD vehicle of its size, I could also do with less gloss black in the interior. I was originally waiting for the new Mazda 3 and in now in hindsight, I'm very happy I picked the GTI. The Veloster performance looks stellar especially for the price range but the styling and interior is not my taste at all.
Das Ninjastix the entire Volkswagen line looks like it was designed by adults. Many other males look like kids designed them. Honda and Toyota are not good now IMO. Volkswagen is winning market share partly because of others’ over styling.
Today is game 7 of Bruins vs Leafs, Bruins won both game 7s of last two appearances between them, let’s hope the last Canadian team still keeps their chance alive! Go Leafs!
Here's the thing. It's not how much hard touch plastics are there, it's what it looks like and the Euros still blow everything else away in terms of interior design
The Veloster N is great (as is its i30 N sister car) but it is F I R M! The Golf GTI is a much better all-rounder, and its interior doesn't look like it's made by Fisher Price. I've had my 2019 GTI Original (a 3-door limited edition they did here in Australia) manual and I absolutely adore it so far.
Even if the Veloster N out drove the GTI, the cheap plastic interior bits is a no go for me. I actually really like how nice my Mk7.5 GTI is inside and it's one of the main reasons I picked it over the Si, WRX, and the ST. If it's a car I'm going to daily and spend a lot of time in, I want a nice interior in addition to being fun to drive. ALSO. As far as the manual vs DSG. If you're planning to tune these cars, the manual can't handle much more additional torque and tunes eat up clutches on that. Even the low-torque tunes still end up needing sooner clutch replacements. The DSG is good for upwards of 400lb-ft of torque supposedly.
Nah the DSG's don't have a power limit yet. If they were only good for 400 horsepower then they'd break with JUST a tune that gives you 370 wtq. The DSG's haven't been broken yet, and the DSG is bone stock in IROZ's mk7 GTI with 550-600 whp and 600 wtq.
I have a 2016 autobahn manual gti and I absolutely love it, I drive it everyday to school and work and have never had an issue with wanting the DSG. Manual and gti all the way!!!!
Just if they had the i30N in North America... but since we’re stuck with the Veloster, my bet will always be on the GTI. If it was a 1v1 with the GTI and i30N, I think you’d really have to weigh what your goals are with the car, because both cars do their jobs to near perfection.
GTI is better because I don't get to work on a track, in fact, I don't get anywhere on a track. Definitely a bargain, but a rabbit edition GTI just has the better offer being that it sacrifices 50hp compared to the N to give it better comfort and imo styling.
Guys props to you for calling out hyundai n division as a sports car manufacturer. Some people just cant accept that Hyundai can make cars other than value oriented ones.
It's not that they can't accept it. It's Hyundai's build quality and durability that concerns people. Sport hatches get thrashed around and need to do many jobs because of their purpose. I've worked on both makes of cars and have honestly seen some terrible issues when I take apart a Hyundai. The interiors don't hold up as well either. Hopefully they start building them better and stronger for their performance line.
I would take the GTI over the veloster N because the GTI has a usable backseat... if there was an Elantra N hatchback in the states I would pick that over the GTI all day.
I'm from Germany and I have the i30n ( elantra n ) ! Had an mk6 gti before and I test drove 2 mk7 gti's! I think the gti is the better Allrounder but the i30n is much more fun! But both are great cars!

Mk7 GTI owner here with the 6 speed. The DSG also has clutch friction plates, which are stupid costly to replace. Rather replace a good old single-disk. Also, if you’re a good driver, manual clutches are known to last very long. Tuned cars are different stories altogether.
@@647killa True, but it's extremely rare to see those fail. Not to mention the fact that clutches are expensive and stupid weak on mk7's, after just putting a baby tune on your car the clutch is trash and you'll have to go aftermarket, it's also something you have to replace at a certain interval each time. Not to mention the incredible difference between speeds of the DSG's and manuals,
Because EA888 is very tunable and alot of aftermarket support. You can make a bunch a power. KDM aftermarket support is not there in comparison. A $700 tune in the gti and you are in the power of the N (probably a bit more depending on tune provider)

There's something to be said about the classic good looks, lines, and reputation of the GTI. The Veloster may be an awesome car, but the GTI is an old favorite with modern specs.
‘16 GTI here. I’m sure the Hyundai is a great car and a very good alternative today. I’m a gen X’er, and I can tell you Hyundai’s were huge steaming piles of shit in 80s and 90s. I can’t shake that image. That’s why I don’t care for them and nothing is going to change my mind. This is pure gold coming from someone that’s owned at least one VW since the 80’s LOL.
Just tune the GTI. I had stage 1 flashed on my GTI 3 days after I bought it lol. $1200 OTD for the Uni stage 1 ECU and TCU tunes done by a shop. It made a large difference in power. I'm impressed by my fiance's Kia Soul turbo also. The dual clutch is good and the car is quick. I put a Race Chip RS on it and it has more than enough power for a Soul.
Only problem with GTI's is you never know if the person driving is actually a car enthusiast. I feel like so many non-car people buy them, in my experience. I want to give them thumbs up in my Focus ST, but I feel like they're not even paying attention
Iv never met someone that owns a gti and isn’t a car/euro enthusiast...maybe it’s you in a ST and he just thought it was some fat female in a base focus, since they look pretty much identical :)
If you like engaging. Manual all the time. There’s not much engagement without a clutch and gearbox. Dsg: has, gas harder, go faster. Brake, brake more. Go fast. Repeat. That fun should end quickly
I have a dsg golf gti and I'm strongly offended you would disrespect the dsg like that. It's such a nice vehicle, it's faster than most cars in my neighborhood. It's also extremely smooth feeling like a luxury vehicle but once you slap it into sport mode it changes into a monster.
Test drove the GTI Autobahn yesterday and the Golf comfortline... comfortline was fairly quick, but the GTI was completely next level and in Sport mode makes it an addiction to drive... It's dangerous.
iamnotinarush I’m actually test driving the Rabbit here soon, how did you like it? I’m a fairly new stick driver but I’m really looking forward to what it offers.
The metal paddles retain too much heat in the summer. Standard GTI tires suck. I pulled mine as soon as I drove it. They’re in my garage waiting to be sold. Cars, boats and motorcycles are the best pets. Steering wheel buttons work great when you own it. You don’t even have to look at them or think about where they are. It’s second nature. I'm always reminded of a review of the last gen Focus ST by a dutch youtuber who said "If you like fondling dashboards, buy the Golf GTI, if you like driving, get the ST". I think the same thing applies now with the Veloster N.
GTI with a stage 1 tune or Veloster N? Stage 1 tune is only $650CAD and gets 297HP and 346TQ. You get a nicer quality interior, "German engineering/ refinement", more practical car, and faster, than the Veloster N.
@@zakk5688 I have a 2017 and went with APR's stage 1 high tq, 316bhp and 396ft/lb tq, changes the car drastically. If youre interested in apr you can find the closest shop that does their tunes on their website
VW's "VAQ" front differential lock isn't QUITE a mechanical LSD, though it's close. It actually takes the "fake LSD" brake application concept that a lot of cars (including VWs) have pioneered: use the ABS system to preferentially brake the spinning wheel, in order to force torque to flow to the wheel with grip, allowing an open diff to simulate a limited slip diff using braking. The VAQ differential lock takes it a step further; instead of using the ABS system to brake wheels, the VAQ differential lock is basically a Haldex center differential (except situated just between the front two wheels, instead of the front and rear axles) that uses locking pressure to have a dedicated resistance source across the front open diff that doesn't use the brakes. So, technically these cars have open diffs, but have a dedicated differential lock to brake the wheel with less grip to simulate a true LSD, and it is a huge step up from the brake-based systems and viscous diffs, but is going to fall short of most well-tuned true mechanical diffs. #TheMoreYouKnow
Great review guys! Actually DSG GTI does have launch control. Sport mode, traction off, brake, gas. Arm rest slides forward in the SE so I would think it would in the Rabbit as well.
This was the first video I’ve seen from you guys. I like the conversations and the amount of content covered. So many channels take too long to say something
There seems to be a major design flaw in MQB cars re: the steering column. I have an A3 and that steering column massively impedes leg/knee room, plus the key placement is AWFUL. I basically have to keep it a few milimeters from my knee just to have a semi-decent driving position.
All fixable there are add on paddles for 50$ in the aftermath, and they work amazingly. These cars are just the best in class, I want a GTI because they're SO tunable
Perhaps you can also test these cars in everyday conditions. I find the GTI to be great all around car. With DSG being better for traffic conditions plus launch control. Also the Veloster N is nice but, subjectively speaking, I do not like the look of it. GTI has a subtlety that I love. But I'm biased. Oh and GTI horsepower tends to be under rated with many being 15-20 HP higher than stated. Also for infotainment you can control everything from the steering wheel or voice activation. Works very well. Not sure why you didn't mentioned any of that? Did you even try that? I assume not.
Right? I've had a GTI with DSG for a year and literally have never even tried Eco mode. I didn't buy a Prius, I bought a GTI. At the very least I keep it in normal mode with DSG in sport or manual, otherwise full sport.
I appreciate the GTI but has always been a little too subdued for my personal tastes. Love my Focus ST and the price difference on the used market makes it a better buy for my fun money then a GTI. The Veloster N looks like a great value for the money. Wish it was 4 door for more practicality. Be interested to see what a used N goes for in 3-4 years.
Subdued?...I think 'subtle' or 'mature' would be a more fitting description. I feel like the Hyundai is a bit too close to the Honda Type R's '2Fast2Furious' look with an interior design that is so boring it could almost put you to sleep at the wheel.
Just to be clear, the GTI doesn't have 'pumped in audio' exhuast noise the way say a BMW does with the sound coming through the speakers. Rather it uses a little 'noise maker' in the engine compartment which 'buzzes' to make the exhaust sound louder. Still fake, but not playing anything through the car's entertainment system.
It doesn’t matter how great the N is, it’s still a valoster, it’s srt4 neons..amazing platform builds great power, you just can’t take the neon out of it..and that’s where it will stay.
I'm really happy they added a mechanical LSD to the GTI. The bigger brakes from the Golf R and 7 speed DSG are all welcome additions. I have a 2017 base GTI, and while I bought it new at a discount ($21,500 USD), the lack of LSD is its most glaring flaw. Still, for less than $25k nothing came close.

Grant Smiley Have fun, I had the same dilemma two years ago. I wound up buying a Porsche 944 turbo instead, couldn’t make up my mind or justify the prices of new. 🤔
That is a good question. I have looked up a ton of GTI dynos and the ones that are supposed to make 220 HP actually make like 230-250 to the wheels and 265+ ft lbs to the wheels.

Either way the GTI makes more power than people think, it's faster than most people expect, it handles pretty fuckin good with sub par tires... Just buy it used and call it a day. In 2008 I bought a new Golf GTi manual in Tornado red. I still have it 11 years later. It's a truly great car.
That Rabbit Edition Is My Favorite & I Love The DSG 🇺🇸.
I bought a new 2019 Golf R in DSG thanks in part to your Golf R comparison video. I couldn't be happier with my choice, it's a fantastic ride.
Smart Buy
The guy who worked on the Porsche 911 chassis tuned the GTI chassis it’s not fast as hell but I test drove the GTI in corners just sticks like it’s glued to a roller coaster track
The arm rest in this car is the best!! It ratchets up so if your arms are long enough you can get both elbows propped up.
The GTI Looks so much better than the Velocter, at least in that picture.
100%!!! Velocter doesn’t have the legacy of the GTI, I get it’s a good/fun car, but it just doesn’t draw me in with its appearance.
Veloster is great but i think people prefer the quality of the Gti, but what do i know :P
I've driven the Veloster N and the GTI. Honestly Hyundai has improved SO much. The interior in that car is stellar, and the infotainment in the N (all Hyundai) is amazing.
This was one of my deciding factors with the GTI, it just so damn nice, and just a quick easy ECU tune and the car comes ALIVE!
I love the look of old VW Bugs - but the reliability of the modern VWs in my experience (after owning 3) is crap! I’ve owned 2 Kia’s and the reliability is top notch! I will never go back to any German car!
Well speaking of reliability, newer generation of VW cars are actually crap. I hate to admit that korean actually making good quality cars these days.
German cars are not something to rely on anymore. With those innovation and technology, their cars are getting more complicated and less reliable.
Ya but a vw is a real race car
GTI is a million times better looking than the i30n, nicer interior design, better reliability
Affinity we have the veloster N here which is very similar
@@conortrapani616 Similar in performance, but the rear seats make it a useless car for me so I would never buy it. I would have considered an I30N though.
No.
I just dont like the size of the Veloster N...either be a coupe or be a four door hatch...that 3 door mess makes me uninterested...
Same here. Make it a 4 door and I would want it.
What about the audi a5 coupe? It looks sporty and great
This felt like the most complete review in a long time. Seemed to hit all the marks of their best reviews. Great Reivew Guys!
Das Ninjastix Mazda 3 was like driving a melted tub of butter compared to the GTI.
Today is game 7 of Bruins vs Leafs, Bruins won both game 7s of last two appearances between them, let’s hope the last Canadian team still keeps their chance alive! Go Leafs!
Oh, and I saw you at the Raptors game and Jakub wearing Leafs jersey at that game, on Instagram
NEW SEGMENT ALERT!!!! The Hard Touch Plastic Test.
I own a MK7 and sat in a Veloster N at an auto show - hard touch plastics everywhere it was insane.
Actually really valuable to hear the tone differences!
The N performance is fantastic, but, inside it is decidedly low rent...hard plastics everywhere.
Here's the thing. It's not how much hard touch plastics are there, it's what it looks like and the Euros still blow everything else away in terms of interior design
@Gabriel hernandez nah.
The public poll chose the gti, their response "doesn't make sense, I'd take the N" lol naw, they chose correctly.
The DSG's haven't been broken yet, and the DSG is bone stock in IROZ's mk7 GTI with 550-600 whp and 600 wtq.
jrmt6 the DSg in my Mark 6 could take 500 bhp
Manuals with clutches can handle the additional torque if you know how to handle it..
@@stevenyia2778 Only if you upgrade them a ton, stock clutches can't handle jack. And it'll always wear out pretty quickly.
@@roboticvenom1935 That's why I said upwards of 400. I know it can go higher lol
Absolutely loving the content guys, hands down my favourite channel currently
I have a 2016 autobahn manual gti and I absolutely love it, I drive it everyday to school and work and have never had an issue with wanting the DSG. Manual and gti all the way!!!!
And i'm still here with my gti mk4 from the early 2000, still happy tho
1.8t or vr6?
Just if they had the i30N in North America... but since we’re stuck with the Veloster, my bet will always be on the GTI.
If it was a 1v1 with the GTI and i30N, I think you’d really have to weigh what your goals are with the car, because both cars do their jobs to near perfection.
I30 n from everything I’ve seen. I even seen one at Sema in person. It was awesome.
This video + your 2018 GTI review led me to buy a manual 2019 GTI S trim (my first manual) in Great Falls Green. I'm loving it!
Still got it? How's the green been I love that color
I would take the GTI over the veloster N because the GTI has a usable backseat... if there was an Elantra N hatchback in the states I would pick that over the GTI all day.
My sentiments exactly.
I'm from Germany and I have the i30n ( elantra n ) ! Had an mk6 gti before and I test drove 2 mk7 gti's! I think the gti is the better Allrounder but the i30n is much more fun! But both are great cars!
This is exactly how I feel.
It'd be even nicer if they had the i30n Fastback here. 😍
The Golf used to be called The Rabbit, instead of Golf. So it’s a historic name they are bringing back. I love it as we had a VW Rabbit when I was a teenager back in the 80’s.
Yeah this is the first time there's a Golf and Rabbit trim, at the same time
Apr stg 1 ECU / TCU fixes SO many issues. DSG if you don't want to replace that clutch though.
Aren’t DSGs prone to fail around 70k+ Miles?
Alexander De La Cruz I have 137k miles on my DSG GTI, no problems at all. Just make sure the fluid is changed every 40k miles per specs.
@@AlexD02 No, DSG's don't fail at all in 70k miles. Essentially none have failed in mk7's, are you thinking of an older generation because that makes no sense buddy
They last, and the DSG hasn't even had ANY issues on IROZ's race car with around 600 whp and 600 wtq(built motor of course since rods max out at 420-450 wtq. Not to mention the fact that clutches are expensive and stupid weak on mk7's, after just putting a baby tune on your car the clutch is trash and you'll have to go aftermarket, it's also something you have to replace at a certain interval each time. Not to mention the incredible difference between speeds of the DSG's and manuals,
The golf GTI is the only car that would make me consider cloth seats over leather. The cloth design is awesome.
Because EA888 is very tunable and alot of aftermarket support. You can make a bunch a power. KDM aftermarket support is not there in comparison. A $700 tune in the gti and you are in the power of the N (probably a bit more depending on tune provider)
Joe or $400 JB4.
@@JoJoJoker was giving the most expensive stage 1 tune I know of.
Joe yup! I’m on my 3rd APR car.
But tunes void the factory warranty. Something to note. I'm APR II on the last year of the mk6 platform. VW refused the intake manifold warranty due to TD1.
The Veloster N is probably a fantastic car to drive but it's still dumb as hell. Why would I want three doors
I sense bias when comparing veloster n. Imo the interior is inferior.
Veloster N misses a very important design element of a hatchback. Practicality.
People pick the Golf because this car has a legacy and been around for more than 30 years. Veloster N is the new kid on the block.
It’s been around well over 30 years
I drove a number of Hyundais when they first came to the U.S. in the 90's and then rented a Veloster 2 years ago. I can't do it. I'm the modern-era version of the guy who refuses to buy Honda in the 60's because of "The War." Sigh. Make mine Mazda, Toyota, Honda...
There's something to be said about the classic good looks, lines, and reputation of the GTI. The Veloster may be an awesome car, but the GTI is an old favorite with modern specs.
Still and always will be the number 1 hot hatch
I was just doing my research on this car and you guys posted this. It's like you can read minds.
I had a 2012 GTI 3-door manual. Videos like this make me wonder why I ever traded it in.
y did you?
Duh
There is Launch Control on the DSG on the GTI.....Track Control off.... BRAKE... full gas....RPM will only go up too about 2,500.... release brake
Ah damn, tried it, didn't work. My bad
2:52
u sure?
I have a 2016 dsg gti and it HAS launch control
+the arm rest actually can move up and forward
+ the GTI Rabbit Edition has a VAQ Limited Slip Differential
‘16 GTI here. I’m sure the Hyundai is a great car and a very good alternative today. I’m a gen X’er, and I can tell you Hyundai’s were huge steaming piles of shit in 80s and 90s. I can’t shake that image. That’s why I don’t care for them and nothing is going to change my mind. This is pure gold coming from someone that’s owned at least one VW since the 80’s LOL.
"I've been keeping it in eco mode"
Well, that explains why it isn't downshifting.
I put a Race Chip RS on it and it has more than enough power for a Soul.
yooo i was like wait a minute this video came out 5 mins ago and there is replys from a week ago like wtf
also gti dream car

I'm a manual person it's always more fun
Absolutely
@@nsbioy Manual is way better
I have a dsg golf gti and I'm strongly offended you would disrespect the dsg like that. It's such a nice vehicle, it's faster than most cars in my neighborhood. It's also extremely smooth feeling like a luxury vehicle but once you slap it into sport mode it changes into a monster.
The camera work is awesome. Is it a motorcycle mount system or a really fast drone?
Close ups im Pretty sure its the camera on the cars(u cant see them)
Test drove the GTI Autobahn yesterday and the Golf comfortline... comfortline was fairly quick, but the GTI was completely next level and in Sport mode makes it an addiction to drive... It's dangerous.
iamnotinarush I’m actually test driving the Rabbit here soon, how did you like it? I’m a fairly new stick driver but I’m really looking forward to what it offers.
I love the plaid seats!
I wish more companies would implement the use of fun/stylish patterns.
#PlaidRules
Absolutely hate them, such a car should have leather as stock.fresh, young and stylish on the outside, you go inside and turns into grandpa's car
GTI interior looks better and more mature. Not a fan of 🎹. If you use the steering wheel buttons you don’t need to touch the MMI. Why are you complaining about Eco restrictions all the time? Why are you in a sports car driving in Eco mode? Like .00000002687% of people so that. Buying a sports car for “features” like rewinding 📻 bs for the dynamic driving experience sounds awesome. You keep cranking and we’ll keep watching 🍻
DSG all the way! Love driving in manual mode and flicking the paddles while BOTH of my hands stay on the steering wheel while flying through corners!!
Where do I get the stage 1 tune at
@@zakk5688 I have a 2017 and went with APR's stage 1 high tq, 316bhp and 396ft/lb tq, changes the car drastically. If youre interested in apr you can find the closest shop that does their tunes on their website
Well if youre modding the car then youd prob buy the less expensive one anyway?
with modding in mind, it'd be smarter to go with whatever responds better to the mods rather than just whats cheaper
15:45 I'm with you Yuri- Si for the win. Also, its hard to beat the reliability of Hondas.
#TheMoreYouKnow
i didn't get notifications but early! thanks UA-cam recomendations!
Yo hit the bell
Great review guys! Actually DSG GTI does have launch control. Sport mode, traction off, brake, gas. Arm rest slides forward in the SE so I would think it would in the Rabbit as well.
I love the interior of the new golf
I want to put the seats in my 90 CRX
Can't speak for the VWs but I tested an Audi A6 Avant 3.0 manual and S Tronic dct and I now own the S Tronic 👍
What's a "VW GTI"? Why is the car in eco mode? How can you call that DSG boring?
This was the first video I’ve seen from you guys. I like the conversations and the amount of content covered. So many channels take too long to say something
Thanks, watch some of our other "normal" videos when we're both in the same car
There seems to be a major design flaw in MQB cars re: the steering column. I have an A3 and that steering column massively impedes leg/knee room, plus the key placement is AWFUL. I basically have to keep it a few milimeters from my knee just to have a semi-decent driving position.
!!!!
Same here but I did get used to it. I have an 18 R and it took a few weeks but then I forgot all about it.
I have the 7 speed dsg I'm my Loen ST FR and it's very nice indeed. I love a manual, but after 20 years and a dicky back, I'm now an auto convert.
Eco mode? Did you know the GTI has a Sport mode? 😂 Eco mode is garbage
Right? I've had a GTI with DSG for a year and literally have never even tried Eco mode. I didn't buy a Prius, I bought a GTI. At the very least I keep it in normal mode with DSG in sport or manual, otherwise full sport.
I use eco for my work commute but other than that it's slow and not fun
Eco when the wife is in the front seat, sport when the dog is 👍
Does eco mode increase gas mileage by a significant amount ??
So still fake pumped in audio
HEY, can someone tell me what camera mount setup they are using to take some of those 3rd person type shots of them driving ?
Ok, you guys need to do a bloopers video. There is now way you guys close your doors at the exact same moment first try
First or second try
Hyundai needs to, or needed to, bring us the Elantra/i30 N. It was designed to be a Golf competitor, and would be a better sell.
Ooooh! That would be epic!
The i30 N Fastback is fantastic but maybe Hyundai's market research team knows something we don't
Yes! Testing a Rabbit edition later today to maybe replace my MKV GTi manual! The dealer only has a DSG so I'll see what it's like, but gotta have that 6MT babyyyyy. Now it'll have to convince me not to buy an MX5 RF
Grant Smiley Have fun, I had the same dilemma two years ago. I wound up buying a Porsche 944 turbo instead, couldn’t make up my mind or justify the prices of new. 🤔
Did VW really add more HP or are they just sandbagging their numbers less?
That is a good question. I have looked up a ton of GTI dynos and the ones that are supposed to make 220 HP actually make like 230-250 to the wheels and 265+ ft lbs to the wheels.
BPSDetailing It’s crazy!
@@nicholasmumford5616 Yeah I think they are just sandbagging their numbers less which means they essentially don't have to do anything but change some numbers. I looked up some 7.5 Dyno runs and I didn't see a big jump but hey I could be wrong. Either way the GTI makes more power than people think, it's faster than most people expect, it handles pretty fuckin good with sub par tires... Just buy it used and call it a day. I get it if you are buying new then yes the SI is a "deal" but it sounds terrible, it's noisy, the interior is hard where it shouldn't be and it doesn't come with a DSG. If you're serious about going fast release yourself from the mortal limitations of a standard and join the DSG Master race.
Jokes aside Yuri was complaining way more than was reasonable, the DSG is plenty of fun. The only thing I miss about my MK6 was the fact I made some great memories in that car.
OspreyBravo18 I absolutely love the DSG. I had an STI with the 6MT and like the DSG (tuned) much more.
@@Osprey1994 the "si" is not the deal. I looked up the prices, and the reason why the GTI is priced so HIGH on msrp is for dealers to mark them down to impose savings. In just 200 miles with me there's LOADS of mk7 GTI's for 22k, one for 21k, and rabbit editions for around 24-25k.i

Having seen that Cornflower Blue in person, I was immediately jealous of it (I bought my R in Lapiz Blue). That Cornflower is an outstanding colour.
@@effa114 Don't get me wrong, I love the Lapiz, but there is something about that Cornflower Blue that speaks to racing, or something intangible I can't quite put my finger on.
I'm also finding that the Lapiz is a very soft paint, which is the only thing that makes me regret it as a choice. I'm going to have to be extra careful during washes etc.
After driving in GTA traffic for 42 years I'm done with manuals, despite the fact they're more fun and involving. If you live in the country, go for the manual, or if you have an auto car for daily use. As for the GTI, I'm on my 4th. because it's one of the few cars that doesn't have some annoying quality that crops up after a couple of years and you want to get rid of it. This takes years and years of development. Cars like the Veloster N are surely more fun to drive but it will take years for Hyundai to get there and Biermann has pretty much admitted that. There's a reason why the GTI is still the King.
I’m in love with the DSG I love how it shifts so fast.
GTIs are some of my favorite cars ever.
Arm rest is still important in a manual as an long motorway drives you'll spend most of the time in 6th
and when you don't drive really fast, you can use the arm rest and shift with just your wrist
damn, I haven't been here in a while, and I have missed a lot of great stuff! Also big congrats on 455k!
Yuri is so annoying...he does not know what he is talking about. GTI has an upscale interior. Every professional car journalist say it. Yuri bashes GTI but bought a used one. He is just annoying. He ruins the whole review. We want an authentic review...not some bogas biased crap. We car enthusiasts do not always have the access to test drive many of these cars...and we want someone that has an accurate perspective on quality, comfort, performance etc...Yuri falls FLAT....but at the end of the day....he bought a GTI? Does that make any sense? Of course not...because he knows deep down the GTI is an amazing iconic hot hatch in which ALL auto companies model. Every professional car journalist define the GTI as the marker for all hot hatches to aspire to....and the interior is upscale/premium which is far superior to the Veloster! I like the blond haired gentleman....but Yuri...omg...go away!

TheStraightPipes of course not... yuri you are still annoying as hell. If you hate GTI why you buy one? Your business partner is awesome... but you ruin the whole show!
