    I had the privilege to work alongside Gus Dudgeon when he mixed this at The Marquee Studios in London. I was just a fresh-faced lad out of school but I can tell you listening to this on the studio monitors was out of this world. Gus was a genius and I personally rate Blue Moves as one of Elton's very best. The band were absolutely smashing it on this album. One Horse Town is another great track. Roger Pope was superb on the drums.This live is missing the incredible Ray Cooper on the bongo's. What a great guy Ray was. So down to earth. Just strolled into the session, Gus said take a listen and go do your thing. That is exactly what he did. He then took me for a pint and a sandwich in the local pub in Soho. Amazing times.

      Not to forget Crazy Water. That song just moves like crazy at the end. It puts you on a rolling train.

      @@progleader Yes Crazy Water with Rays bongo playing was sensational. He literally improvised that as he went along. Gus just played the track and Ray went in to the studio and laid the bongo down within one or two takes. Came out into the control room and said “ will that do”. Stellar musicians🙏🙏

      @@thetenorethe grooves of Shoulder Holster and Between 17&20 are incredible too. Not to mention the instrumental Out of the Blue

    Yet another of Elton's successful 70's or 80's singles that is largely forgotten and never played on the radio. This along with "Sartorial Eloquence" rank as my fave "forgotten" singles by Elton!

    I went to all 4 shows at Hammersmith, and this was the last song, last night, and this was like witnessing god.. I was the clown with the star head band dancing in the stalls at the front if you were there and remember it.... what a run of shows.

    Those are wonderful memories; thank you for sharing. I enjoy hearing about the synthesis of the songs and albums of Elton John. The elements, ideas and talents that go into producing great music is fascinating. Lyrics, instrumentation, sound, mixing, and production are all unique pieces. I’ll never experience any part of this, but I’m fascinated to learn about these processes within the music I love. I’d enjoy hearing more about what “went into” the development of Elton’s music.

    • @nickweems24
      @nickweems24 10 років тому +2

      My favorite live era is the Peactree Road one ,maybe because it is a bit obscure.But yeah,to me there is no doubt that 1993-1998 and 2004-2008 is his best period.Not for any particular reason.It is just the way he carries himself on stage.Undeniably,he was never better live than the original trio shows with Dee and Nigel,but live concert footage from those years is hard to come by.I'd propably pay a hundreds and hundreds of *whatever* to have the 11-17-10 footage.Aaaanyway...Had my-Greek version of- SATs or A-levels or whatever it is in Australia last June.Have fun with that :P
