I'm not a military member. I'm not even American. But watching this video and learn about all the amazing high standards & facilities of the Academy fills me up with pride for the US Air Force.
Excellent video kudos, Sir. I joined as enlisted airman out of high school 1987-1992; The best decision in my life. To anyone watching this video: Air Force officers are some of the best trained, educated, & natural leaders I have ever met. The Air Force turned an 18 year old teenager in me into a dedicated police chief, medic, husband, & father of 30 years. It can be tough, but WELL WORTH IT-Go Falcons!!!
As a West Point cadet, this is an incredible video and it was very cool to see the similarities and differences between USAFA and USMA. Your video quality is insane and I wish someone made a video like this for my academy. Thank you for your hard work!

I was incredibly lucky to spend 9 of my 29 years in the Air Force at the Academy. My last Enlisted assignment was in the Aeronautics Lab (as well as getting to work with both the Engr Mech and Math departments). While there, my supervisor encouraged me to complete my degree. While I couldn't get my degree there, the Aero Department was amazingly supportive of my educational endeavors at a local university. Once I completed my degree, they helped me apply to Officer Training School to get my Commission. I came back to the Academy eight years later in 2009 and was an Assistant Professor of Computer Science until I retired from the Air Force in 2014. I walked out of Fairchild Hall for the last time about 3 weeks before you arrived. I have amazing memories of my time there and all of the fantastic Cadets I was privileged to teach, as well as military and civilian colleagues with whom I taught. Thanks for the great video. Extremely well done and a truly authentic look at the Academy.

Having been born and raised in the backyard of the U.S. Naval Academy I can personally attest to the history that each service academy has but also having mentored countless cadets throughout my 16+ years in Civil Air Patrol the Air Force Academy is definitely on the top of my list of places to visit! Fortunately many of our cadets who attend a service academy will be so experienced with drill and ceremony that they'll have a significant advantage of other newbies!! Excellent video Sam, hope you're able to visit the USNA, USMA and USCGA as well sir!!
I saw this video when it came out. I've always wanted to go to the Academy. And as of writing this, I'm literally in Sijan Hall, in Sam's old squadron. Literally few doors down from his old room. Absolutely insane.
I'm from the country of tulips and Vincent van Gogh. This is simply awesome! Your story with the airforce is inspiring. Of course your ambition as a videographer is breathtaking. I hope the new recruits make their dreams come true. And Sam, may yours come true too ✌️
Lol its true tulips are native to and first bred by the turks. But he did say vincent van gogh so in addition to the tulip reference its clear he's dutch.
I love how the tradition of attention to detail is incorporated into everything. It could mean the difference between life and death in the field. There's a reason we have the best pilots on the planet.
My dad was a lieutenant colonel in the Air Force and taught physics there back in the 80’s. The Cadet Chapel is my favorite part of campus. Definitely a must see.
As a former AF E6 with almost 12 years active duty (1970-82), I wasn't aware of a lot of this at the Academy. Very informative, Sam, and a well produced video!

You can also join the Air Force as active duty enlisted and then apply to the academy. I've had a few friends do this and it's easier than the normal process since you no longer need a congressman to endorse you. As an airman, just get your commander to sign off and you're good to apply!
@js_mad1 You high to be a high performer in active duty and there are programs that you can apply for to get accepted into the academy if your leadership permits, reallly based on circumstances and your relationship with leadership
Wanted to go here after HS, but I did not have the grades for it. Now I'm an educator, and promote USAFA for our "college days" to hopefully inspire kids to not make my mistakes and get them thinking about this career path. It was great to see how things go down at USAFA!
Excellent video. I have a nephew senior and niece sophomore (brother & sister) at USAFA and they love it. Can't wait to see them both graduate. My line of work takes me to various military bases and I have such a love for our service men and women, thank you so much for your service.
Wow! Great job! I’ve been to the Air Force Academy before. Almost went there. And your video captures the spirit of it. Not only that, I was really interested in all the details that you were able to provide. I saw your KC 135 video last night. Like your dad, mine was a KC 135 captain, but that was back in the 60s. He’s been gone for many years and watching your video really connected me better with what he did. I never knew the kind of detail that you showed. Thank you. I look forward to your other videos.
This video makes me wish I had the high aspirations of joining the Air Force Academy when I was a freshman or sophomore in high school. Kudos to you for creating a guide to how to join the Academy. I'm certain that it will effect a generation of AF officers.
I am an Air Force brat. From 1969 to 1972 while my father spent time at Ent AFB, Peterson Field and of course NORAD, my siblings and I enjoyed every minute of our 3 year stay. Who knew that my older brother would spend 4 years of his life at the AFA. He was a Class of 82 graduate. If you have time and happen to visit Colorado Springs, be sure to spend a few hours at USAFA. You will not regret it. Well done Sam. Great video!!

Well done Sam. Thank you for sharing. Watching the video does bring back memories of the academy visiting our '21 cadet graduating from CS-27 Thunderbirds.
THIS WAS FABULOUS!!!! Thank you SO much for this comprehensive tour of the Academy. I have always been aware of its existence but had NO IDEA of the extent of the facilities! I have family in the Air Force, of whom we are VERY proud. This Grandmother LOVES following you 😊😉!!
This is cool to see. I went to the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) which was quite the experience. The USAFA seems like it provides a great experience as well in Colorado Springs.
This video is beyond amazing. I have never seen such a thorough (though brief) tour of this campus before. Even from the Academy itself and snippets from "a day in the life students", they leave a LOT about this place out. I never knew half of the facilities even existed, such as the observatory or that there was a ski shop, etc and that certain places were open to the public. No one ever talks or shows some of the most commonly accessed places for students such as the massive dorm room complex (the view from 4:56 - 5:02 is completely new to me, the entire interior, and externally again at 6:02 about the Quads) or the library. What gets the most, though still little attention is the mess hall. I had no idea the buildings were like this, as there's usually no focus on any architecture besides the chapel - and that's a real disservice. The most that's put out to the public are very few specific aerial shots of the terrazzo (I didn't know there were water fountains and gardens) circling their focus around the exterior of chapel, and the first day footprints. Other than that, it's just the interior of the football field, especially during graduation. Thank you for also including footage of the other athletics fields as well. Seriously, well done. This video is an excellent "look inside" for those interested in the Academy. While I won't ever be a student here (my time has passed. Had I wanted to join and been appointed straight out of high school, I would have been part of the class of 2013 - plus even if age weren't a factor, I would be disqualified as I also have a Bachelor of Science degree from another institution - something an applicant cannot have earned prior to joining as the institution), I do love learning about service academies and what student life is like there. From my perspective, compared to the USNA and the USMA at West Point, the USAFA objectively seems to have the least amount of public outreach, such as this simple broad-based tour. You really do fill a much needed informational role. Thank you.
What an amazing video!! Thank you for this in depth look behind the scenes!!! As a retired SMSGT (67-92) I am still proud of the Air Force and my country!! Thank you!!
fun fact! my dad used to work right next to there at compassion international. there would be times when they would do there air shows so they would quit work early and we would come down there to watch. and since we knew a sergeant from church, he was able to get us a tour. I still remember walking into that huge chapel amazed!
This is great Sam. USAFA Admissions should have done this years ago. Happy to see that cadet entrepreneurial spirit still going strong. Hope you make a mint and help some future Zoomies along the way. '93
To the young person who said I already want to be in the Air Force, good on ya. I can say everything in that video is true. And at 67 years old, that video motivates me to go there too! My oldest son attended the Academy, and to this day I have many great memories from my time visiting there. But, if you choose to go, you need to work on pushups, pull-ups and running. Take care and I wish you all the best!
As a senior in high school, I understand the pain and stress of going through the college application process. I would suggest starting early and staying organized. Make a list of all the schools you're interested in and their deadlines. Also, take advantage of any resources your school offers, such as guidance counselors or college fairs. Practice for nomination interviews with friends or family, and make sure to research the school beforehand so you're prepared. Remember to take breaks and prioritize self-care during this challenging time. Good luck!
It’s only “free” cause you sign a contract saying you’ll serve as an Officer in the Air Force. If you withdraw you either owe the Air Force reimbursement for expenses or a switch of your contract to enlisted service. Either way, your paying for the school through something
My dream college for sure! Applying next year and I genuinely can’t wait. I’m nervous but I won’t be too crippled about not getting in. It’s insane and incredibly impressive what the requirements are to get in!
@@sturmtrooper1452I did not work hard enough to achieve my goal. My ACT score was the critical blow to my application. Getting a nomination will be near impossible for me at the moment.
I am way too old to apply, but when I was in High School I wanted to go to the AFA. I highly doubted it I would of been selected. Well did not matter if i would or not I get a medical condition that would fail me anyways. Thanks for sharing this. How I wish I could of gone into the Air Force. My Father a Ret. Lt. COL wrote some recommended letters for some of his youth soccer players that got selected and gone on and grauuated and become fighter pilots. Thank Sam it was a very nice video.

I'm enjoying this so much and well done. My husband was an AOC here for 4 years. We loved base housing and all the amenities including the elementary school for our two boys. We were there 1987-91. He was the AOC for 1st Squadron.
The Academy is a marvelous place. Our son graduated from the Academy and became a fighter 16 pilot and an outstanding officer! You must see the beautiful chapel! Parents weekend was a great experience! Seeing our son dressed in blue for the first time from home was a proud moment. The future was so exciting for this young man I can only say his education and experience was the best in the world.

Sam, great initiative. Wish I could found someone like you to guide me through this process. I serve military in Sinai back in 1990 and my wish was become US air force pilot at that time. Had a US general recommendation but at the end I quite. Such a shame. With your help, I think you will receive a lot of applications worldwide. Regards
That's awesome, I lived there from '94 to '04 while my dad was stationed there and it is an absolutely beautiful base. I haven't been back since but it brings back so many memories seeing it for the first time in 20 years. Pretty cool.
I love all this and every single person that makes all this possible. 100% worth everything that is put into it. To all that are currently in Academy thank you, and to any thinking if they want to join, do it and I thank you in advance. I know if I was 18 again and didn't know what I wanted to do, this is a very good career path
Really excellent video. I am an Australian writer, working on his first action novel and you just gave me a bunch of new ideas for one of my characters, so thank you very much indeed !
Visited USAFA about 5yrs ago. Amazing experience. Was during the summer and it appears there were remedial drills going on in the Terrazo for those cadets that needed some "offseason improvement". My only disappointment was the bookstore was closed that day because I wanted to buy a USAFA t shirt! I tried to sneak into the football stadium but it was locked up pretty tight. So much respect for the students at USAFA and all the military academies. Its not an easy life and they all chose a more difficult path on purpose.
@@IIXxSLAYERxXII it always fascinated me too. The initial design got some backlash in the day, but it still looks so futuristic even almost 70 years later
I live in Colorado Springs, 3 miles south of the Air Force Academy. It’s a nice place, although I have no interest in going there, I did go on base on the daily when I went to Air Academy High School, which I graduated from in 2020. Nowadays I sometimes run errands with my mom or dad up there too.
Another great resource for anyone interested in the Air Force is Civil Air Patrol. A great entryway into the military life, with tons of fun along the way. I was personally a member of the Colorado Wing, Parker Raptors. I made it to Master Sergeant, an NCO. I still remember it well. Highly encourage people to take a look!
This was really cool, I’m somewhat familiar with the USNA, but this is my first time seeing anything about the Air Force Academy. Really cool to see, and it’s pretty crazy how cool these institutions are from an academic standpoint. I was amazed by that when I attended a conference at the Naval Academy.
I applied for USAFA for the Class of 2027. I didn't make it sadly, and turns out I had certain medical issues that would probably permanently block me from entering. I would wish all cadets good luck in USAFA.
@@KookyKooka USAFA has an exchange program with the other US Service Academies, as well as with cadets from other nations Air Force Academies. Semester long options are the most common, with a select few able to attend for the full 4 years from other countries. Both programs are highly competitive.
It was my huge privilege to serve as civilian faculty at the Math Dept several years ago. I miss my colleagues especially those who were so helpful when I navigated the unique academic atmosphere!
I served ROKAF for 2 years, Republic of Korea Air Force. I envy you that the facilities are so different.. It's very neat, very aesthetic, and the facilities seem new. If I were an American, I would want to enter the school.
I lived on the AFA from 64-70. My dad was a teacher there. It was a wonderful place to grow up. Children could not go into the chapel and weddings there had to be approved. The fly by that broke windows in 68 was a huge deal. It was beautiful back then and even more so now.
I'm working to enlist in the US Air Force right now and I honestly wish I had decided to do this sooner because I would've worked a lot harder and tried to get into the academy. Luckily I am gonna work my tail off and hopefully get to an officer position through the enlisted route!

Fortunately many of our cadets who attend a service academy will be so experienced with drill and ceremony that they'll have a significant advantage of other newbies!! Excellent video Sam, hope you're able to visit the USNA, USMA and USCGA as well sir!!
I sincerely hope he visits USNA, I am a Mid that would love to meet him!

I saw this video when it came out. I've always wanted to go to the Academy. And as of writing this, I'm literally in Sijan Hall, in Sam's old squadron. Literally few doors down from his old room. Absolutely insane.
That’s amazing! Best of luck to you.

As a Colorado resident, this is an amazingly accurate depiction of the AFA.
I'm From India , I can say that Training Center of U.S. Airforce is Awesome. Sending Lots Love From India. Great Video
You can also join the Air Force as active duty enlisted and then apply to the academy. I've had a few friends do this and it's easier than the normal process since you no longer need a congressman to endorse you. As an airman, just get your commander to sign off and you're good to apply!
how does that work? like genuinely asking. i thought u had to have a bachelors dg first before you could enlist?
Your basically saying its propaganda then?

Sam, thanks for showing us around the Air Force Academy. It is a spectacular campus. Thank you for your service to all who graduated.
Good luck!
yep and you'd better start the process way before your senior yr IF you want to attempt entering one of the service academies!! AIM HIGH

It’s only “free” cause you sign a contract saying you’ll serve as an Officer in the Air Force. If you withdraw you either owe the Air Force reimbursement for expenses or a switch of your contract to enlisted service. Either way, your paying for the school through something
