Great informative video. For next, do AH-1Z please, because my country just bought some from US, so it would be great to know more about them ... Or C-5M Super Galaxy, that plane is just amazing.
20 Yr US Marine here, these Coasties are friggen bad ass. Trained with some of their pilots in flight school and they were sharp, very professional folks. I've seen the videos on their rescue swimmers and I'm just in awe. As someone who wants to get a water survival instructor cert, I watch their content whenever it drops. Having to put your butt on the line and rescue people in varying conditions is inspiring. Cheers from San Diego!
Speaking as someone who was on a boat with mechanical issues 140 miles offshore, it was a huge relief when the USCG jet found us and maintained contact until the USCGC Seahawk arrived from Carabelle, FL. The Seahawk crew checked out our issue, tried to get our engines started and eventually took us under tow to Panama City. I know that the 5 of us on that boat, and our families, are most appreciative of the USCG and everything that they do for all of us. Great video, Sam.
I'm an avid swimmer myself, but that takes nerves of steel to jump the middle of the ocean from a helicopter. I can't even imagine trying to rescue someone out there. As always, love your production quality; you are a true master of your craft.
I'm a veteran of the coast guard and I thought I was a good swimmer. Lol I was proved wrong . I didn't do ast but I was a BM which while we were training we have our own rescue swimmer course but it's just from a boat instead of a helo . So it's a milder version
Eight years retired from the Coast Guard as a AMT/Flight Mechanic and I found myself right back to the countless number of rescues I was a part of. Even still remember the commands/dialog as I found myself repeating as the hoisting was commencing.
Thank you for your service. You guys usually aren't getting shot at, but holy hell it takes balls to fly into a freaking storm and rescue people. Absolute hat off and I have massive respect for the coast guard.
i remember back during hurricane sandy when i lived right next to the beach, the entire area was flooded and it looked like the apocalypse or something. When the coast guard and national guard helicopters decended to help rescue people it was like watching angels come down, it was a feeling you can never understand until you see it yourself. i will never forget it, thank you guys, you are heroes :>
December 1999 I as on a fishing charter out of Virgina Beach with my Son and some friends when at 4:50 in the morning and Southeast of Rudie Inlet our boat hit what was later determined to be a buoy that the SEALs used. It was grey and rose 4-5 feet out of the water. t didn't show up on radar and had no lights or reflectors. It stopped a 58' sport fishing boat that was traveling around 23-25 knots like a hitting a brick wall. There was a 4x8 foot hole in the starboard bow that ended at the bulkhead of a stateroom and the bow stateroom. A giant car carrying ship stopped to render assistance. The Coast Guard was spinning up a helicopter but canceled the aircraft after knowing we were safe but still sent a 47' rescue boat like the one in the video. The Coast Guard crew even brough us back to the inlet off of the ship. There are no words that can adequately praise these men and women for the job they do. P.S., because the captain shored up the bulkhead to the engine room the boat was saved and still fishes to this day though it has had quite a few upgrades and several repower events.
I have a friend stationed at USCG Air Station Sacramento. Great group of guys flying the C27 primarily and the only fixed wing air station on the west coast. He's told me some pretty hairy stories. Thanks for highlighting this Sam. The "Coasties" don't get a lot of pub, but they do work and it's hard work.
There are fixed wing aircraft (C-130's) at AIRSTA Kodiak, AK and AIRSTA Barber's Point, HI. You are correct that the C27 is only based on the West coast out of AIRSTA Sacramento.
Coastie here, I've never heard anyone say this and it seems like all these comments are respecting us. For me the army is my most respected branch. I appreciate you!!
As someone in the army as well. I highly respect the coast guard like you said more so than my own branch and that’s saying a lot cause I have a lot of pride for the army and being a soldier. But It’s my last year in and when I ets I’m going to switch to the coast guard and go for being a AST.
Absolutely incredible Sam! Literally my favorite piece you've done. I love everything about the H-60 and what an incredible way to portray our amazing men and women who serve in the USCG. Keep it up!
The part where the pilot acknowledges the distress call and give ‘em the ETA! That gave me chills. I can’t imagine how it feels being in that situation and hearing those words over the radio! Great job
I am a viewer from the UK, I have been hoisted into a Wessex (S-58) on a training exercise. I have huge admiration for the US Coastguard and everything they do. This video as excellent, good effort by you and Coastguard. You could have dobe several vidos focusing on different parts of this unit and what they do, they would all have been hugely enternainng. Many thanks for this video.
Thanks for these videos, Sam. Not a member of the armed forces myself, but I love seeing them in action and representing the best of America. Thank you!
Another exciting and educational video; thanks. The USCG is part of Homeland Security and as mentioned serves a multipurpose role of both rescue and protection. A shoutout to who ever jumped in the water and followed Sam through both the training and simulate rescue. 👍

Never thought much about the Coast Guard but if anyone ever watched Deadliest Catch, then you know how elite and badass these guys are. The show always do a really good job of portraying that to the viewers and highlight how important they are
Sam, this is by far one of my favorite videos of yours, honestly probably my favorite. From the MH-60 crew consisting of 2 pilots, one rescue swimmer, and a mechanic to the rigorous training endured by those in the rescue swimmer program, I've learned something new about the USCG today. The rescue scene was really well done and informative too! Thank you for sharing this! Also, for an idea for a future video: Have you considered doing a video on the United States Space Force and what they do on a regular basis? Maybe you've thought about it but I wanted to give you a suggestion anyways. :)
Sam your videos never disappoint. Kudos to you for doing these challenging and dangerous exercises. Big shoutout to the talented and courageous Coast Guard teams doing these rescues. 👏
I feel very honored by this video. I'm 19 and have been in the Coast guard since I was 17, and everyone thinks we do nothing and that it's the easiest branch. Thanks so much for spending a day with these coasties!!

Wish you included the line of the rescue swimmer (not sure if they said it here) but "I'm a Coast Guard rescue swimmer and I'm here to help you!" probably one of the most powerful lines you could hear as you are floating out in the ocean.
