    Great video. Appreciate the simplicity of the way you take video. Reminds me of a few years ago when fishing videos were better.

      @@SaltySamFishing BTW, what are your water temps. there? Those same stripers come into the Bay of Fundy where I fish them in the summer and fall. Been a long winter and I'm itching to get some baits over fish.

      @@David35445water temps have been just over 50 degrees recently. Hopefully water temps start heating up for you up there sooner than expected! It seems like ocean temps have been fairly warm here in NJ.

      @@SaltySamFishing Fingers crossed, we are sitting at the mid 40's right now, still a bit chilly. We'll be using gaspereau(alwife) for cut baits this year, the mackerel runs have been bad the last few years so we can't depend on them for bait.

    I have the same combo as you I love it so much but I’m new to saltwater fishing I go fishing with my cousin in New Jersey every year any tips on how to catch fish?

    • @SaltySamFishing
      @SaltySamFishing  4 місяці тому

      Hey Landon, that’s great to hear, welcome to saltwater fishing! Fishing from the beach can be really tricky and can take a lot of time, patience, and persistence. The best things you can do to optimize catching are as follows:
      1. Finding structure will help you find where the fish could be. When you’re looking at the beach, reading the waves can tell you where the sand bars and deeper water are. Check out videos by Rich Troxler on UA-cam, he explains how to read the surf to find fish really really well.
      2. Time of day and tide. This can change all the time but, the best times are before sunset and a little after and before sunset and a little after. Those are the times the fish activity is generally higher. Low tide or high tide can sometimes be effective to focus on especially based on the time of year but, the best piece of advice is to fish whenever you’re able. However, the early morning and evening will certainly help your chances.
      3. Get as fresh of bait as possible if you’re using bait. The fresher the better. If you’re using lures, the best way to know what to use when is by “matching the hatch”. Figuring out what bait fish are around at the specific time of year and then trying to find lures that imitate that. The internet is the best resource for all of that and you’ll find plenty of articles and videos about what to use when.
      Hope that helps and good luck out there!

    I hope you're right that this summer is going to be a good one .

      @SaltySamFishing  5 місяців тому +1

      Yeah, I sure hope it is, from what I’ve seen this year has been good across the board for people! I wish I could remember the name unfortunately, but the beach cart is from Amazon. The Benjamins Wheel cart looks like it would be the perfect cart to use! Thank you for watching!

    congrats on your first grad semester! I finally got out to OCNJ, got on some schoolies with the bucktail, first time catching them. They are good fun. What weight were you using? Looked pretty choppy out, 8oz?

      @SaltySamFishing  5 місяців тому

      Thank you very much, glad to hear you got in on some striper, they’re a ton of fun to catch at every size and even more fun on bucktails! I had a 6oz on and then was lucky enough to get away with a 4 oz the next day.

    What are your thoughts on the color of the braid line? Green vs blue?

    • @SaltySamFishing
      @SaltySamFishing  5 місяців тому +1

      Good question! I honestly think since usually you’ll be using a clear leader like mono or flouro the braid color doesn’t really matter all that much. I like the bright blue because I feel like I can see it a bit better than the green when my lines are out. Hope that answers your question!
