I saw both of your interviews with Tech so I wanted to check out your channel. I'm struggling with the bookkeeping part of the business. Would you consider making a basic video for us that are learning like do I need an inventory list, do you keep copies of your listings/pictures in case ebay loses them, what numbers do you keep up with and how (purchases, COG, sales, shipping fees, other business fees, etc using a spreadsheet or software program)? I've gotten so overwhelmed with this task that I don't have enough time to list. I need an easy basic system that works so I can spend time growing my store. Also, how often do you reconcile your inventory with what ebay has listed? There are so many behind the scenes tasks that really need to be in place to make a business work. Thanks!
I was going to ask the same thing!
Inventory cost / loss are easy to keep track of with software that connects with your eBay account.
After sourcing, log your mileage and total cost into a Google spreadsheet, title as Expenses. In a separate spreadsheet titled Inventory, log each item purchased with a description and cost. Once item sells, cut and paste it to a 3rd spreadsheet titled sales (removing from Inventory) Input all ebay fees and shipping costs (easy to find under solds on the app; each listing has a transaction summary showing the breakdown). Then subtract your cost of the item to get your net profit. Hope this helps and happy ebaying✨️
There is a reseller named Cheryl who has an accounting workbook online. I know she has a UA-cam channel because I purchased the booklet. It’s easy peasy to enter your numbers and it does all the calculations for you. I believe it’s Cheryl’s Reseller Accounting or Accounting With Cheryl. She even does yearly taxes for sellers. The workbook is worth every penny and has been a tremendous help for many resellers including myself. There are videos on how to use it and there are directions. Cheryl has answered my questions quickly. I’m not a friend of her’s but heard about her from other UA-camrs.
I also recommend Cheryl! She’s taught me a lot when it comes to bookkeeping and taxes :)
Brilliant ❤loved seeing your photography setup x
Awesome video guys! I’d love to see a video in the fall or back to school whenever it is your “peak season” sourcing and packing and shipping etc. thanks so much for the content!! 😊
Thank you so much for mentioning taxes! It is so nice when you've got some time behind you and everything flows well. Great process and it must be nice for there to be two of you. 🙂
INSPIRING...Grateful...Thank you for all you do to show us!!🎉💛
Often get asked about the process of reselling by friends and family. I now have a go-to video to send them. Thanks. Keep up the great content.
Thank you!
Love your channel. Your videos are so helpful!!
Fantastic, you guys sure delivered and fast...I'd just asked for this last week! There's another seller I've asked repeatedly to know how she does it all, yet only see the same shopping, haul, or pulling sales week after week. Heading to check out the metrics vid next.
Love to see the breakdown. Thanks for sharing!
Y’all are crushing it! Thanks for this walk through!
Thanks for watching!
Good job y'all watching your channel grow. I'm amazed how many people think if you're online it's a "tax free" deal. . . We all pay tax on our businesses that's for sure.
honestly it's the intent of profit vs just selling junk around the house. but if you don't get a 1099-k , then i wouldn't pay taxes
Hi Carrie...this was a well done video. Thanks for the lesson.
You are so welcome!
Your videos are such high quality. Good job!
Glad you like them!
Your videos are so helpful for someone like me wanting to sell online. Thanks!!
Happy to help!
Smart video using one item and doing a “start to finish”. Well done !!
Thank you!
Thanks Carrie. You helped me out with the bag sizes.
Glad I could help!
This video was super helpful!
Thank you for showing and sharing all your steps. Really helpful 😊
Most welcome 😊 Thanks for watching!
Cool to see your process. I hope to someday get to your guys level.
Perfect timing on this video as it answers a lot of questions. When you take a sku# out of the box to ship, do you print the same # on a new label and replace the one you took out with the new inventory? What happens when boxes become empty? How does that sku process work. Thanks!
I love yalls photo backdrop. I’ve been wanting a setup just like that but due to a small home, I work out of my shed. My shed is currently overrun with unlisted inventory so I’m working on that to clear up some space for me to work.
Sounds great!
You are awesome lady! Thank you for sharing and inspiring. You have a way of making this feel doable and not so overwhelming ❤ Somedays it feels heavy and then I think of you all doing this while homeschooling babies and I get going!!!! 😅
I joined Tech’s group because of your insights and felt totally lost in there. There’s a million calls and no organized curriculum to go through 😢 feels like I could listen to calls for eternity.
May I ask how you navigated the group to make use of so much information.
Did listen to the million of backlog calls or jump on the new ones live?
Thanks again for all the dedication and support you’ve provided your audience
You both are incredible!
Amazing job so far! So I totally get how overwhelming it can feel when there’s so much information out there. I would personally, look at the weekly schedule to see which calls you would like to attend, write down the day and time of the calls you want to check out, get the room code and password written down, and then try to join 5-10 minutes before the call starts. The calls all use one zoom room but at different days and times. When a call starts, the host(s) will say “welcome to the *blank* call, blah blah blah”. That’ll help you make sure you’re at the correct call. Just attend live calls for now! You can always listen to backlogs later :)
This is exactly what I needed! Thank you so much. Could you also talk about returns? I haven’t started my store but they’re scaring me to death lol just would like to know how you handle them, etc..
excellent work guys
This is great, thank you! I’ve learned a few ways to make my posting easier
Great to hear!
Yay! You answered all the questions that I didn't want to bug you about 😂 Thank you!
Happy to help!
You’ve done a fantastic job of streamlining your business to work as smoothly and efficiently as possible in order to get that amount of sourcing, listing and shipping done in a day, every day! It looks like the trick of it is, to not only niche down, but to only sell the exact same item! This way, 1. you save $ by not needing different size packaging for shipping, 2. your prepping of the items are all the same process, 3. your sourcing is done in one area or department of the store for the most part (excluding the Bins, I suppose), 4. Your items all fit in the same size box for inventory storage and 5. with working only in the one category you become experts on all of the brands with a lot less time and effort than if you were selling all types of clothing! Very Smart! I on the other hand, prefer to sell Vintage Collectibles which can be anything from toys to Glass Vases and more. Everything needs a different size box, I need to many times do a lot of research to determine what my one of kind item truly is, my inventory does NOT all fit together in the same box for inventory storage and many times I need to spend a lot on proper protective wrapping for shipping like bubblewrap and peanuts. Not Very Smart on my part!
I wouldn’t say it’s “smart” vs “not smart”! There’s pros and cons to niching and selling everything. It also depends on what you want for yourself and your life! Hopefully everything sellers can learn a thing or two from niching sellers and niching sellers can learn a thing or two from everything sellers ❤️
Debbie, you might enjoy Kayla @thehomeschoolingpicker. She and BF/partner Matt take a hybrid approach, each somewhat focused on his or her own interests. Kayla likes picking small decor items including seasonal decor, trinket boxes, etc. while Matt looks for games, game units, clothes, caps, shoes, etc. They seem to have developed great instincts for selecting or rejecting items on the fly and good inventory and shipping systems though they don’t talk about them as much as Carrie. Plus, I enjoy watching their budding 🥰 romance.
New Carrie vid! 🔥🔥🔥
I ship between five and 10 items a day right now and I use my phone through the shipping. It’s just easier. Since I have a wireless printer, I can change the weight or the package dimensions or whatever has to be changed and then just print it off my phone. Keep up the good work.
Nice! Thanks for watching :)
@@carrieathome I haven't been able to get my computer to let me upload pics from my phone directly.
Can't wait to watch this. My pre-question is how and where I can aquire the knowledge and get good at knowing the difference between straight fit regular fit etc when style codes let me down. (Sorry if this is already in the video)
I hope you enjoyed it! I’m sure there are plenty of sources for this on UA-cam! I’ll probably make a video about this at some point too :)
@carrieathome you guys are great, looking forward to more to come
Omg I need a system like this
You guys are the best
Wish you would show how to take the photo and transfer it to the listing.
Great video!
Thank you for this content.
Thx you for the teaching video!
Thank you for watching!
i came here for the eye candy, but this is top notch content. thank you

@@carrieathome oh right, kudos- kyle is dressed way better than i do when working from home.
Make a video on measuring jeans
Hi Carrie, love your videos ! So helpful 🤝 What are the items you are selling the most during summer slow down ?
Shorts and athletic wear sell well and I still sell jeans in the summer, just not as many as fall and winter. I just made a summer slowdown video too!
@@carrieathome thank you will watch it for sure ☀️
Thank you it means a lot to me 🎉😊
Loving your videos! Curious about if I should include the sales tax I pay on an item in the COG? Hope that makes sense, TIA!
Yea, do the whole total of the item, tax included :)
Thank u for your introductions. Really helpful! But don’t u iron the trousers? 👖
Thanks for watching! No need to iron if they are folded nicely
Thank you!!
I learned from big yumbo about the cubic where you can use the 13x10x1 send ground advantage so, I think the larger envelopes you guys use are much more expensive and you could save quite a bit at your volume using the smaller mailers and clear bags. I do use some larger 15x12 for larger items or like this one on Poshmark where I had 3 mens jeans I had to fit in there to avoid getting charged extra for it being over 5lbs if I used a box.
Interesting! We tested out a few different ways with ground advantage. It looks like the cheapest we got shipping down to was around $6 per item if we folded the jeans in half to make a 9x6x3 package.
@@carrieathome That's where I am at with pricing. I was using padded flat rates mostly for jeans before, but after watching Yumbo doing a sitdown with some guy he explained it and said you just fold them with the edge so its still 13 inches long. I had to verify on usps website cause I thought it was wrong to say it was 1 in height when it was actually 3 inches, and with cubic shipping for the over 1lbs you use the dimensions of the original envelope sizing. Your 2 folds for the jeans I dont think would work for the 13x10 cause its too wide for mens jeans. I do 3 folds and send them 13x10x1 and its always 6 dollars and change even going to California from Florida.
@@carrieathome The savings I was mentioning was for the bag size you use. They look much more expensive than the 13x10x1.
My bags are $0.08 each, but I did see 10x13 polybags for $0.05 each! I’ll try out the different size at some point to see if I can save a bit more!
@@carrieathome haha. You edited it. I was going to just respond short when I saw sarcasm. It adds up when we buy by the 1000's. Unless I find cheaper, I have been buying on Ebay. They went up but it's 58.99 free shipping for 1k. If you found a cheaper store, I'll take it because I don't want to spend much time if not needed researching bags again.
Great video. Question from a newbe. Why do you have so much inventory
Thanks! The more inventory I have on my store, the more sales I can get everyday :)
Great thanks !I wonder on poly a bags are u using recycle ones? Sure u have been asked before have a great week thanks for sharing
I believe these ones can be recycled!
Hi, just found you, love it! Can you share if you download your photos onto the computer, then drag and drop and then delete? Is there a way to open the icloud on the computer and drag and drop into the drafts? Thanks! Can't wait to watch the rest of your videos!
Glad you're enjoying my videos! I connect my Samsung to the computer with a USB cable, import them, and then delete when I'm done using them :)
Love what you guys are doing. What are the plastic storage bags you're using to inventory your jeans, and where do you find them?
😂 just got to that point in the video, my lord lol
All is well! Lol
Good video guys
Thank you!
Great video Carrie!! Have a few questions. What degree angle do you have your photo board set at? And I noticed you and your husband fold most of your items when packaging is there a reason for that? Wondering if it makes shipping cheaper? Thank you 😊
Thank you! The board is at about a 30 degree angle. And yes, the shipping is a bit cheaper when we fold them into burritos lol
Great video, as always. I just wonder why you don't figure the shipping weight, etc. while listing? I realize it would change if the buyer purchases more than one item. Then of course, I'd recalculate.
Since we sell the same stuff, we have a 2lb weight fixed into each listing. It costs the same for us if it’s 1.5 pounds or 2 pounds.
Fantastic video. Would you be so kind as to share the size boxes you use for storage? Do you by any chance have a video of your inventory system, I am struggling with mine. Many Thanks!
They’re 24x10x8 :)
@@carrieathome so thankful for the details! Ive got my husband watching now- so eager to have an ergonomically friendly set up
Thank you for this! May I ask what the dimensions for the plywood booth set up is?
It’s in the video! It’s 55”x56”
Thanks for sharing;) what computer do you do your listings on? If you mentioned it, I apologize! I heard you mention the labels computer, not sure if it’s the same one you list on. Thank you
It’s a custom built gaming pc but any current pc can handle it!
Hi, curious about your method to get the photos on the computer in a speedy way. Are you airdropping? Or pulling from iCloud or some online service? USB?
With USB :)
Great video ❤👏👏
Thank you!!
Hi Carrie. You said you use 12 x 18 poly mailers from Amazon and if you have larger or multi-item orders you use 12 x 18 poly bags from Ebay. I thought you might want to list the things you use in your notes. I looked to see if the actual sizes of the bags were listed but they are not. Curious mind want to know lol This is a very helpful video. I am a subscriber!
Thanks for watching! I had a speech typo when it came to the ebay branded bags. Those are 18x24 :) I’ll make an item list full of links some day!
I've been inspired by your channel and I finally started selling. Would you mind sharing what size bags you use and where you get them from? Continued success to you and your family.
Thank you! The clear bag sizes are 12x15.5 and the white bags are 12x18
Thank you Carrie! I heard 12×18 and I could find out anywhere!! What about the clear bags you put the clothes in before the mailer?
Thank you!
Those are 12x15.5 and I get them off Amazon :)
Loving your Vlogs! Just curious.. do you have to wash clothes that are new with tags?
Just used clothing!
Thanks!
where do you get the clear bags for the clothes?>
Amazon!
I would suggest putting in Amazon affiliate links in the description so you guys can make a little money when someone orders your recommended items ❤
That’s true!
Thanks for another great video! Do you remember how long it took from the time you started listing your jeans to your first sale?
Not too long! I don’t remember it exactly but I remember it only taking a few days
Thank you! Another question. Do you still get charged the ebay fees if someone returns an item?
How do you transfer the photos from your phone to your computer. I have an iPhone and use a dell laptop. I currently list on my laptop and upload the photos via the eBay mobile upload option. I’m thinking there is a more efficient way to do this.
I connect my phone to the computer with a USB cable! It’s a work phone so there’s no other apps or photos besides ebay photos
Great video! A few questions: How often do you go to the post office? About how many items do you ship at a time? And do you have to wait in line to give the items to a clerk, or is there a way to just quickly drop off items at the post office and then leave? Thanks!!
I schedule post office pickups every day and we ship out anywhere between 20-30 items a day
@@carrieathome Thanks! I didn't realize the post office will do pickups on an ongoing basis. That's a real convenience.
You just need to schedule them out for every day :)
Hi Carrie, do you not include cost of shipping when you list the item? Asking since you measured and weighed item after the item sold. Thanks!
I charge a flat rate for shipping when I list an item. I’ve just done some testing to determine what most my items weigh and how large they are in a package and preload that into my listing. Most my packages will weigh between 1-2 pounds and measure 9x6x3. For the outliers, I still charge the flat rate shipping and then input the numbers before printing the label out.
@carrieathome Thank you! Shipping for ebay is a little confusing for me.
How do you all go about new clothes with tags? Do you wash those too?
Nope! Only wash the preowned clothing :)
Can you store clothes in a hot garage if they in poly bag?outgrowing my spare bedroom
I personally wouldn’t recommend it because I have a theory that preowned clothes in plastic bags while it’s hot makes them start smelling weird.
@@carrieathome ty. Love the channel
You showed the steel wire racks but what about the gray plastic racks?
I don’t show those because we’re no longer buying those. They’re not as durable and the steel ones. But those are basic ones with 5-shelves :)
Can you make a video on the coupon you add to every order?
Yup!
Do you spend time editing photos before you load in your computer?
Just an occasional photo rotation or crop!
Is there any reason to not do your full listing on your phone? I’ve been doing that and wonder if it’s a problem. Thank you!
I’m just faster on the computer than phone. :)
Helpful video to see the entire process. Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Do you keep track of cost basis of an item anywhere? I imagine it would be done before washing because that is when you remove thrift tags.
I don’t keep track of the specific cog anymore. I just total up much we spent sourcing for the month and divide by the amount of items we listed that month. We buy and list 30/day and don’t overbuy. So it’s pretty easy to keep track of that way.
Great video! Keep up the great work
When your boxes start to be say less than half full, do you go through them every so often to move items from the next box to fill in the one before? Otherwise don’t you eventually run out of room?
Yup! We consolidate a few times a month to make more room on our shelves :)
Speaking of boxes….where do you order your inventory boxes? It’s difficult to find them that narrow so I’ve been cutting mine. Ugh!
Can you post links in description of the items mentioned?
If I can get an Amazon storefront made, I will!
I'm new to reselling and I would like to know what sizes are most popular?
I find L and XL are the most common sizes that sell well!
Hi, Sweet heart can you tell me how can I find the calculator on eBay?
I have a link to it in my description for you!
Do you check comps? How can you make listing so fast? It takes me at least 5 mins to research comps, then even before comps it takes time to find exact style and so on. It takes me forever to make it. Probably 45 mins per listing if im fast :)
Because I’m selling very similar items, I already know what to list them for. If it’s a new item, I’ll usually spend about 2-5 minutes of research on the item for price comping and finding some keywords to sell it better
What kind of cloth do you use for photography?
It’s a gray fleece blanket :)
No I mean the name of canvas
I’m about to sound real annoying with all these questions, so sorry lol. You said you use 12x18 mailing Polly bags and then said for big and multi items you use 12x18 eBay brand mailers. Is this correct? Just want to make sure you only use one size like it says in the video, 12x18 for regular and big orders
Oh! I think I misspoke, the bigger ebay bags are 14.5x18.5. We primarily use 12x18 for the regular bags though :)
How do you order custom SKU numbers? I checked their shipping list of items and I couldn't find them? Thank-you!
There are ebay stores that sell premade to custom made sku number labels in all different shapes and sizes :)
Oh interesting Thankyou!
which video has your metrics stuff or is that trade secret?
Which metrics are you talking about? I don’t think I have any secrets lol
@@carrieathome 0:46 you mentioned a video about metrics. i mean i guess i'm wondering what you're looking for when sourcing. no, i'm not going to get into the jeans business to compete or anything but it would be interesting to understand how you guys can both shop separately and not fight over "why did you get this?" too often lol
@@donkeykong1234 ohhhh! What I mean by metrics is making sure they will bring in our desired profit and sell as quickly as we would like them to. We aim for $15 profit or more and looking to sell the item within 90 days. :)
@@carrieathome ok but are you just looking it up on your phone or something to see sell through rate? i get that brand recognition and experience is the hardest part to learn and requires total immersion in the industry to pick without looking it up
@@donkeykong1234 yea for brands we’re unfamiliar with, we look at ebay listings and sold comps to get an idea of how quickly it’ll sell and for about how much. :)
Please tell me, you have more than 2.2k listings, do you manually upload them yourself?🎉
We have 1.8k listings with 2.2k sold listings and they’re all manually uploaded :)
👍👍
Do you run a new coupon every day?
Yup!
Mark down coupons are only for paid eBay sites yeah? Not for free accounts?
Yup just for store subscriptions
Can you only add coupons on your items if you have a store?
Yup, coupons and newsletters are only available with a store subscription 👍
@@carrieathome Thanks!
How do I get in touch with you guys.. I have some questions
Instagram!
What is he writing on the poly mailer after he weighs it ?
It’s the sku number so I can type the sku into search and print out the label 👍
How do you list similar from your store? Like where do I go? It takes me so long to list and would like to know how to do this faster too, thanks!
Under listing pictures- there - have to sell similar, you click on it. You put your pictures and make sure information is correct , or change if your size or Color or fabric is different. I use AI for description to save time. Then enter my price , Wt, dimension and list it.
Go to your listing and click “sell one like this” underneath the photo :)

Slowly transitioning into part time reselling just need to come up with a consistent daily routine and commit.
Genuine question do you think a car is essential to making this kind of business work
It definitely would bring more opportunities to find items but it’s not impossible! I know people who only find items online to resell and it gets shipped to their house. But I personally would want a way to get to thrift stores or flea markets.
@@carrieathome well for now i have my own two feet and public transport which isn't too bad like £4 return so when i go sourcing further i give myself a little target of making my £4 back.
If i ever get the chance to move than maybe it might have to change
Apologies for essay
@@Cadey_Nation you gotta work with what you’ve got! 💪
That jeans would fit on Priority flat Rate envelope for $7.99 instead of $9 some to ship and yoi can save some of those shipping money.❤
Isn't ground advantage cheaper for jeans?
@@SamMathiasArt it depends the ground advantage you have to measure and destination where its going so thats why it calculate whats the price but 99% of jeans will fit on Priority flat rate envelope because anything weight 70Lbs as long as will fit on that envelope its only 7.99 . If you ship jeans and weight more than a pound always check Priority flat rate because mostly you save more on flat rate envelope and it ship faster to. Now dont get confuse because theres also legal flat rate which is the envelope is more wider and a little bigger but that is $1 more than just Priority flat rate envelope. Alot of seller they can stick 2 jeans on legal flat ratw envelope it save them money. Check it out.
Thank you! I charge $9.99 but the shipping label costs me between $6-$7. 👍
I’m confused. I can’t see the screen that well.
Paid $9 for item
$6 for shipping
Sold for $25 plus $9.99 shipping and you made $15 profit plus original cost of good??
Yup!
Being that I'm not familiar with selling on ebay I was confused as well. After watching again, it looks like ebay charges $9.46 to sell/list the item and $6.21 to create/print the shipping label. If true, it's more than I thought.
@@carrieathome I must be slow. It’s not adding up. The original cost of item must’ve been around $5. If so I got it! I was thinking you paid $9 for item when you thrifted it.
Bought the item for $9, it sold for $25 plus $9.99 shipping ($34.99 all in). The shipping label cost $6. $35 sale price - $6 shipping label - $9 cost of item - $5 ebay fees = $15. My profit is $15 and I was paid back my $9 cog.
Love this video!!! How do you keep track of your purchase price on each item when you’re calculating each profit? Do you average it out or specifically type what was paid into the ebay calculator? TYIA!
You are so Pretty~
Is the summer slowdown real? Why are my impressions down 80%+ ?? Is this normal and is this happening to anyone else??? My impressions abruptly and suddenly took a nose drive 3 days ago on the 25th and there is no indication why, is it eBay retaliation, is it a summer slowdown, is there any explanation. Is this happening to you or anyone else??? What’s happening?? Ebay is gonna put me out of business
Summer slowdown is real for most ebay sellers because there are less buyers shopping on ebay during the summer. As far as listing impressions being down, the chart is comparing summer numbers to Q1/Q4 numbers which has the most shoppers on ebay. In the beginning, before we could fully live off ebay, I had to supplement my income with side hustles to get us through summer.
@@carrieathome can you make a video showing your impressions chart, or can we do a zoom call real quick to compare or a screen share. Why my Impressions went fro. 90,000 daily and from 24th to 25th dropped to like 1000 …..??? Is this normal????
My impressions plummeted 70-80% in a single day and it has been rock bottom for days.
For 3 days like this, should I be worried? I noticed my listings aren’t appearing as much, they are been 1 or more pages back
It could also be ebay is updating things. I’ve found during an update, it also screws up impressions/sales. Did you stop promoting your stuff, change anything on your end? As long as you have kept listing the same quality of items, the same number per day, then I would say it’s a wave that just needs to be ridden.
i went to the thrift store and bought a NES game for $2 i sold it for 0.50 cents, freaking guy i sold to wouldnt budge😭
