It's not easy. It's minimalistic. That's what the spirit of punk is about. It's actually harder to make it sound good and full sounding than something that is more complex. Think about it. Yeah everybody can be impressed by a comparatively more complicated Eric Clapton guitar solo but it's much harder to be impressed by something simpler and more stripped down. You have to be on top of your game, composition-wise. Which Billy Joe Armstrong is.
Yea they are I learned their music first in my teenage years of the 90s then progressed to RHCP, AC/DC Pink Floyd, AIC, STP ,Bush, and down to my old mans bands growing up to Ted Nugent, REO, Styx to Black Sabbath but i liked their music when i was a teenager so we both liked Sabbath...but i started early my dad is a rhythm man i just took it father and learned to solo...and riffs and licks, harmonics and pinch harmonics... relieves stress...
hi everyone, he did a great job teaching you how to play the song. However I would like to add that the chords arent the most important part in learning this song. What you want to concentrate on is the palm mutes. count the number of palm mutes and make the chord the final count.
Fantastic, textbook breakdown... Much appreciated! Now can you do the entire Kerplunk through Insomniac catalog and then jump on the whole Nirvana catalog after that's done?
One question - when playing downstrokes of verse, you are hitting (most of the time) only the thickest string of power chord? And strumming all three string of power chord, only when there is this accent (without palm mute)? Because i'm still struggling with getting correct groove while picking
Hey man, I know it's been 7 months and you've probably already figured it out but I just wanted to say that you are right, I think he is playing it like you said, 3rd string only when you take off your palm. I mean, that's how I learned how to play it and it sounds right, at least to me.
Good lesson, but it felt like you were a little bit rushed and didnt explain all the parts thouroughly around the middle and end. Still better than all of the other lessons out there, great work
To me it sounds like you need to turn your knobs all the way down ; then turn the treble on so you can just about hear it, the mids a bit more than the treble and the bass a bit more than the mids to give a warmer sound but not turned up so high that you get a muddy sound.
Awesome lesson. How do you get such a clean sound? I can't seem to find a nice balance with my setup. I have an Epiphone Les Paul and a Fender Mustang practice amp.
I'm aware that my equipment is cheap, but I work very hard for what I have and can't afford more at the moment. Was just wondering if I could do anything different to get a better sound.
I don't think there's a way to get that "clean" distorted sound as he does with your equipment. Also, Mustang amps are not so awesome for high-gain stuff, and that doesn't help.
That feeling you get when one of your favorite guitar teachers cover a song that you really want to learn
how about you stop being one
Jeremy King damn
Ryan Zheng Yeah...I wouldn't have responded either after that...
didnt know the hulk could play the guitar
Billie Joe Armstrong comes up with very easy chords and solos but is rather fun and sounds awesome

Because he has amazing gear? Your gear is pretty bad dude; you're not going to get a great sound with it.
I'm aware that my equipment is cheap, but I work very hard for what I have and can't afford more at the moment. Was just wondering if I could do anything different to get a better sound.
