I love this series. It really reminds you, if you’ve been playing for some time, that everyone sucks in the beginning. Also that teaching someone else can make you appreciate what you’ve accomplished and remember the basics.

JOS has many riffs man. I agree, it is a great song. But this is the easiest riff in a Green Day song and yeah, one of the best. Brain Stew is entirely the same chord progression over and over from the top till the end. Jesus of suburbia is an awesome 9 minute song, but has no comparison to this song in terms of riffs in my opinion.

That's why 25 or 6 to 4 sounds to familiar to me
You could trace the progression back to Beatles' While My Guitar Gently Weeps, which Chicago simplified into 5th chords strumming 5 times, followed by Green Day simplifying to repeat 2 times. There is a newer pop artist that also used the progression but dumbed down even more - I just can't remeber who. Of course chances are Beatles wasn't 100% original and they were inspired by someone who was indirectly inspired by Bach Mass #2 in C Major or something... (which IMO is probably the best version)
but is Bach Mass #2 in C Major about pulling an all nighter?
OTOH, JSB could do all the parts to 25 or 6 to 4 on an organ.
But then Papa Roach Last Resort also sounds like it....
