Tied some of these during the winter and tried one today(7/6/23) for the first time. It accounted for 5 out of 8 rainbows. Great damsel. Thanks for sharing!
im new to your sight but love what you do im looking forward to tying many of your patterns being from the USA do you have a link to the fly box where you get many of the materials from i cant seam to bring it up by just the fly box thanks a ton
Lovely looking fly. Just a question do you find that having the eyes on top of the hook turns them upside down when retrieving? I have tied a few flies with eyes above hook but now tend to tie them on the underside.
All depends on the fly. The beads look a lot worse on the underside though and as this fly looks the same if it is fished point up or point down, I would see no reason to tie them underneath. Another thing to think of that blows most people mind is, if it does flip the fly then it serves the purpose of hiding the hook completely form the fishes view. Most trout feed in an upwards motion or on the same level, so why not have the hook out of sight? This will only make it seem more natural to the fish.
Wouldn’t be without this lure in my box! Saved me from blanking a few times. Prefer to fish this early morning and seem to have more luck with it than later in the day....I’d love to know if you find any flies to be more successful at certain times of the day?
Mornings in general fish better. The fish are rested and haven't seen an angler for at least 12 hours. I always try and be the first on a water, it's a simple tip that can pay off massively and set the tone for the day. Again the evenings also fish well, fish will come in closer as the light fades and usually gorge themselves at this time.
I will check for you. I think they are Dr.Slick though. I prefer the titanium ones but I broke them...super sharp scissors and tile flooring don't mix.
