I used to look at a product that I have and think, " I'll have to get rid of that when I declutter, I never use/wear it". Well, that never happened... So now if I look at something that I don't wear or use, I get rid of it right away. I either put it in a thrift box or throw it away, or put it in a give away bag.
Thank you for sharing!
Great tip!
Small decluttering is great. Less stressful. I enjoyed this video.
I’m so glad!!
I just finished 5 days down in my huge basement. It’s unfinished, except for one large finished room. I was putting the nasty task off for a while, and it was weighing on my mind. I finally just started it, because it was going to be really hot outside, and I have new windows coming on Sept. 5 th., and then time to decorate for Fall. I worked a few hours a day, with one day off in between, because of a couple of appointments. It feels so good to declutter, make a donate pile, ( which I schedule on my phone for the Vietnam Vets of America), who come and pick the stuff up from your porch, and I made a trash pile. Im definitely not a clutter type person, but my theory was- anything that I don’t love, or will use, was “GOING.” And I would set my timer for 1 hour or 2 hour segments. It helped me stay focused. I love your videos. Im sure you are helping a lot of people declutter. It just feels so good to declutter. ❤
Wow it sounds like you did a great job!! 👏 😊
I love the idea of a one or two hour time limit!
Way to go!!!
your attic is nicer than my living room.
You nailed it again: decluttering for a reason not just for the sake of decluttering. I have decluttered my kitchen and got rid of so much unused stuff there, now cooking and putting away plates is so much easier. I do not declutter my shoe collection because I love shoes, except if there is a really good reason e.g. very uncomfortable, worn out etc
Great job! 😊
Good morning! Always a joy to wake up to your smile!
Thank you!
Thanks Taryn. Love your straight forward approach. Got rid of some clothes that were ok when I was 30 but not 58.
Thank you so much! 😊
Thank you for sharing this helpful video with us. It's always a pleasure to see you.
You are so welcome!!
Succinct and relevant advice.
Thank you!
I love listing to your advice- start somewhere like you said- Fantastic advice about under the bed- things I have in bins Thank you Taryn and by the way, gadgets, got rid of many but kept my moms potato peeler, wooden handle, lasting over 50 years and her potato slicer wedge with wooden handle, Products in the past are also great
Thank you so much!! 😊❤️
Good tips. I like your list of questions to ask when faced with a certain item. The one question I don't ask is 'how much did I pay for this item?'. I've sold a few items lately online ... if I get $20 for something I paid over $150 for, I feel lucky. Donations are my go-to now. Who has the time?
I agree - donations or I also like to use my local trash nothing group!
@tarynmaria_ we have 'free weekend' twice a year in our city. Just put your items at the curb on the designated days with a free sign. Pick up your remaining items on the last night. It's great. Next one is in 2 weeks!
My house is really small, so decluttering was only a few days. But the results have been amazing. Even when project-clutter gets ahead of me, I know everything has a place. Cooking is easy: I can find everything quickly, including ingredients. I'm never stepping over things. If a guest calls, I'm ready in minutes. And I have a basement where I'm now wondering what I could use it for rather than seeing it as a storage spot.
Great job!👏
Thanx Taryn!🤩
You’re so welcome!!
I’ve decided to get rid of my stand mixer and food processor. I don’t use either very often. I have a hand mixer and a mini food processor. I think that’s all I need. I think I will take them to my building today and get them out of the house and see if I can sell them. If not, they will go in the donation box.

The Maybe Box works.
For sure!
Don’t ever ask if an item is repairable or reusable. That’s a trap. If you ask that question then the answer will always be “yes” and you will never get rid of anything,
All the other questions are legitimate though.
Hope it works
Great vid! I am currently decluttering and finding it drags up a lot of memories to the surface, both good, but mostly sad. It’s emotionally draining, which is why I have stopped for three weeks now. Anyone else experiencing this? Perhaps I need to continue on, but for an hour at a time?
Thank you for sharing! Definitely take breaks and give yourself time - I always think that I didn’t get cluttered in one week so it’s going to take a while to get things where I want them 😊
@@tarynmaria_ Thank you so much 💕, you’ve inspired me to keep chipping away. A great bonus is that my local thrift store is receiving lots of my lovely but unwanted items, and they are supporting charity and going to a home where they will be appreciated and loved. Win win!
I've never tried a 'Maybe' box and I wonder if I would have decluttered more or fewer items that way. I guess I'll never know if that would've been a help or a hindrance but I imagine it's the only way some people are able to make progress when they're first starting out and having a difficult time letting go of anything.
I find the maybe box works really well for me with kitchen stuff - sometimes I think I don’t need an item and if I put it in the maybe box, then I can really decide and I’ve definitely taken things out of the box in the past 😊
Except finding reasons to keep stuff is why most of us can't get rid of our mountains of stuff. If we're thinking how we could repurpose something, we're making excuses for keeping it and It. Will. Never. Leave. Getting rid of obvious garbage and clothes we don't like is often the easiest part; it's the stuff that's still "good" and might someday be useful that keeps us drowning in our hoards.
😊❤
Thank you Joan! ❤️
I live in an old house that was built with picture windows, so they don't open. I'm constantly think about how stuffy it gets & actually use home fragrance products all the time.
Oh yeah - I know what you mean! Be careful with the chemicals!
@@tarynmaria_Yes, I switched to essential oils back in 2020.😊
May I ask what your day job is?
I'm in marketing and communications!
@@tarynmaria_ it shows! Your videos are enjoyable without being too long. 😄
