I discovered tool after 10 000days, for me the best are Lateralus, Vicarious and the Grudge.. but all the albums are fantastic.. so many exceptional songs. I think all their song and albums are Art
As an ex 90’s metal drummer I gotta say that this drum track is one of the hardest Danny Carey tracks to try and replicate. Even the simple grooves are very complicated and hard to nail with a precise kind of flow. Danny is amazing. But so is the band. Tool always has been and will always be Tool

It sounds like a pretty wicked riff reminds me of the Deftones drums. I like the guitar lick on it I haven't played since the 90s I'm going to pick it up and peel it at some point

His style of playing 16th resembles very much some simon phillips stuff, pretty hard to crack as well
This album never gets old. Such amazing talent all the way around. I saw them in Isla Vista in the 90's and got within ~ 25' of the stage. Memorizing, incredible talent. Its still the best show I've ever been to.

This was the first Tool album I got into in the 8th grade in 1998. I thought I was a pretty forward thinker too at the time. Learned all the songs on the guitar. This is a great album for people starting out on the guitar.

Undertow is such a good album. I used to listen to it while playing Gears of War back in 2007, so it always reminds me of that.

Maybe one of my favorite Tool songs. The way Maynard uses his voice when singing "Euuuuu-phoooooor-reeeeee-aaaaa" just sounds perfect as a way to punctuate the vocals.

My favourite album from them is always the last one I've listened to.
This track has the most heavy, uplifting and hard progressions. It all comes together beautifully.
This whole album is full of many things ,anger,disgust & frustration being at the forefront 🤤

This album always felt lovecraftian to me
ye, i think their early stuff is inspired more by occultish and hermetic ideas. as its progressed, its become more overarching and closer to native tribal beliefs. Though they all share many important qualities and focuses.
Come on...elaborate on that or it's just pretentious as hell...Tool is basically punk anyway and rooted in social commentary....nothing to do with fantasy or horror fiction or anything "lovecraftian".
Maynard takes the buzz from hard drugs and puts it into song so viscerally that you end up high just from listening.

It's been a minute since I listened to this album and it blows my mind. It's like if Rush and Black Sabbath had a baby. I love the purity of sound between each instrument and the vocals...gorgeous!

Hands down without question the best band from the 90's and certainly the best shows I've witnessed are Tool shows, they're more than shows they're experiences. It's like trying to explain the best acid/shroom trip to someone who hasn't tripped...if you haven't experienced it for yourself, words can't describe it adequately
I long thought undertow was an insect (partly because of the album cover). So when the heavy riff kicked in, i always thought about an unstoppable insect that creeps between your feets going fast and heavy like a tank.

Man these guys are the epitome of how a band should sound especially live. If anything Tool sounds better live. There's a bite to their music the studio just can't capture. One of the best riffs ever laid down on tape for sure.
I don`t think they sound special. All their songs sounds almost the same and their play rythm is just weird...the lyrics...i`m not an english native speaker but i just hear mumbling.

@@DerHalbeEuro hmmm. Probably would be a better experience if you were an english speaker first and foremost. For example, chinese sounds like slurring and mumbling to me but to another chinese speaker it might sound perfect. I will admit that their rhythm is always weird. It's like they have a rule where they can't stick with a beat for 10 seconds, so whenever you try to keep on time, you're really thrown off. They make it work somehow though.

most of tool is either written in weird time signatures, and they're usually not the same between instruments.
they also switch between them pretty fluidly. the main riff (guitar) in schism is alternating between 5/4, 4/4, 5/8 and 7/8. that's why it sounds rhythmically off

I remember when I picked this album up in the early 90's. I played it on repeat for like a week until I knew every song by heart. Tool is the mf'in shit.
They played this in Detroit lastnight for the first time in 20 fucking years! So glad I witnessed it something I'll never forget.

I was there aswell. Great show man.
Paid roughly $600 for my wife and I in Detroit had seats 2 rows down from the stage, in middle of the row if that gives a perspective.. Been listening to em since I was 12 first time in concert absolutely loved!
