    Hi, I just found your channel, and I ditto all of the GOOD/GREAT comments everyone is giving you. OMG, I'm already up there in age and I want to tackle my first tee shirt quilt so I was looking for a tutorial and I don't believe there is a better one out there. I realize this video is from 2016, but who cares, it is one of the top tutorials I have ever seen on UA-cam. Thanks for all of your knowledge, I truly believe in sharing one's knowledge this is how the younger generation becomes successful....SHARING. Thanks again, I just became a follower and I have watched the entire video, I am getting ready to view anything else you have on your channel. You are a true TEACHER!

    I love your videos. You explain the intracacies and your technique so completely; I am sure that I am not the only Quilter or "Quilter to be" who appreciates your time and your selfless sharing. I have been ill, stuck in bed, and missing all of my hobbies. Watching you, and a select few others, have me inspired to get well, get out of this bed, and get QUILTING! My husband and daughter have more teeshirts than fit in their closets and drawers- they just won't let go of them. They will be so excited to have teeshirt quilts. They will be my first real quilts and I won't tell them that I am just practicing on them! Thank you, again,

      Thank you! And thanks for watching! I'm sorry to hear you were under the weather. Hopefully you're better now. That's a great idea! My hubby has some shirts with holes that I sneak out one at a time so he won't notice. I'm storing them until I have enough to make him a quilt. Hehehe! That's a great idea! Just make sure to measure twice and cut once. Stitches can be removed, cuts can NOT be undone.

    The level of detail in your videos is super helpful. “Let me show you that in case you don’t know.” So great!! This tutorial is helpful as I embark on my first tee shirt quilt and try and sandwich quilt a few tops that have been lurking in my WIP stack. Thank you so so much!!

    So glad to see this video. These memory quilts are very popular and appreciated. One thing - the phrases “go ahead and” and “went ahead and” are ABSOLUTELY UNNECESSARY. It is a speech habit some people get into like saying “like” or “you know” or “uh” throughout their talking. Might try to lose that. You may not even be aware that you are doing it, but go back and listen to yourself and count how many times you are saying them. Oops. Just started listening again and you are incorporating almost all of the undesirable speech habits I mentioned. Otherwise, you have a very pleasant voice and presentation. Your craftsmanship is fabulous! Thank you.

    This is absolutely the best tutorial I've seen. I hope my question gets to you. All the tee-shirts given me are words. How should I quilt the square? Thank you so much.

    • @SegoviaQuilts
      @SegoviaQuilts  6 місяців тому +1

      Thank you! And thanks for watching! Well, the easiest would be an all over quilting pattern. That covers the entire quilt and you don't have to worry about outlining the words or anything like that.

    You are the most informative part of my research into tee shirt quilts. As a prior Marine (I saw the logo on your shirt) and a prior Marine Wife myself, I admire you doing this, helping others while you support your spouse at the same time! Ooh Rah! Keep it up! And your videos are so very helpful!!!! I have been recently tasked with making two tee shirt quilts for a co-workers sons who have recently lost their father... I have several hints about stitching in the ditch. 1) Press seams to one side. 2) sew on the downhill side of the seam. 3) To sew straight, don't watch the needle, look in front, where you are going. 4) I noticed you were making a "puddle" for you quilting area. By having the quilt fabric higher around in a circular pattern, it's like an embroidery hoop around the area where you are quilting. Very Good!!

    Carol I want to thank you for your great videos! They are so detailed and easy to follow. I have always made basic t-shirt quilts with the bordered or un-bordered squares. This was my first attempt at a collage quilt. It turned out to be a queen size. Big job but I finished it today!!! This is for my granddaughter graduating in June. Anyhow, I am very happy with the end results. I wasn't sure for awhile durning the process but in the end I am very pleased with it. Thank you for all your videos. I had to replay them over and over and go step by step and in the end I am very happy with it. Thank you so much. Oh, this video which showed the mittered binding was sooooo helpful. God bless you and thanks again.

This was well worth the 3 hrs. of viewing Tim. Thank you so much.

      That's great! I understand being afraid to start. Something I recommend to people is go to Goodwill or even a yard sale and buy several tshirts. Make a practice quilt using the shirts your purchased. If you mess up it's no biggie because the shirts don't mean anything to you. But you make the practice quilt from start to finish and by the time you're done, you'll have all the kinks worked out and you'll be ready for the "real deal"! Then you can donate the quilt. It's a win-win for everyone. :)

    Thank you so much for both of your videos! My daughter has been saving her Ultimate Frisbee t-shirts from college and after for the last 15 years, hoping someday I would make her a t-shirt quilt. I have sewed before, but have never quilted. Making several hundred masks during the early part of the pandemic gave me the confidence I needed to start a new project, and your videos made me think I could do it. Watching the first one also made me realize that I could do it, even though her t-shirts were all different sizes, so I could not make all the t-shirt squares a uniform size. Your detailed explanations allowed me to move on. Thank you so much, this will be the perfect 2020 Christmas gift, and I am finished, two weeks before Christmas. You are awesome!

      That's a great idea! You can do it on a smaller scale by using 2". All your blocks would be in measurements of 2x2, 4x4, 2x4, 4x6, etc. Any number divisible by 2. But don't forget your seam allowance!

    I find if you roll up the quilt on the right and use bicycle clips to hold it , it is easier to quilt and the rolled up quilt won’t get caught as you sew. And the quilt moves easier as you quilt
    Great tutorial! Love how you get close ups with camera !

    That was a GREAT explanation of what Bias is. I finally understood it! I so needed to see that visual that you used. I am being serious btw. I am a very visual person and your explanation made perfect sense! Thank You!! Oh, for the bias tape, you open the binding like a butterfly, then open the right side up and match that to the end of your project. Sew it down and then when you fold the binding back together you would wrap it over and sew on the back. Hope that makes sense w/o a visual.

      I have a question for you. When you first laid out the backing fabric
      on the floor, you positioned it over the rug underneath. Any special
      reason for doing this, as opposed to just putting it on the tile floor?
      Maybe it just saves your knees? haha Thanks!

    • @SegoviaQuilts
      @SegoviaQuilts  7 років тому +1

      Kathryn Nield Honestly, I didn't do it for any special reason other than I didn't want to roll up the rug. Hehehe. But it did come in handy in keeping my knees from hurting. :) I will say though that I prefer pinning on a carpeted surface. At our old house I would work in the basement which was completely finished and had carpet throughout. The good thing about carpet is you can use pins along the edges of the backing fabric to help you pull it tight. I can't do that with tile. Instead, I use tape and tape the backing to the tile in order to pull it tight. It's a bit more work using tape instead of pins.

    Love your videos on the Tee Shirt Quilt, especially since they are long and detailed!! Just wanted to point something out, (I've been quilting for 40 years now hon) on the bias tape...you actually open it out all the way, lining up the raw edge of the bias tape to the raw edge of your quilt. Then, you sew right on that quarter inch unfolded groove all around your quilt. Then you fold it over the edge of the quilt to the other side, and stitch it down. I usually put the bias tape (homemade or purchased) on the backside of the quilt, then fold it over to the front and stitch that down. Mitering corners are so very easy, just watch a couple videos and you'll be surprised how very easy it is. Of course, fold the raw edge of the binding down when you start and you'll hide that beginning edge of the binding/tape. The width of the binding you make or purchase depends on how wide you want that binding to be, especially since the wider you have, the more it is prominent on your quilt. Excellent Job and try the purchased binding if you can get it for like under two dollars a pack, just remember, all bias tape is opened out and sewn on that right hand side folded groove, which that fold could be a quarter inch, or even up to one inch. I've got to go back and re watch your Tshirt quilt videos as I am going to make mine just like you've done. I'm so appreciative of your excellent tutorials!

      @SegoviaQuilts  4 роки тому

      Well thank you! And thanks for watching! That's a heck of a lot of experience you have indeed! :) Fun fact, I've still never used purchased binding tape. Hahaha. I always make my own and like you, I prefer to sew the raw edge on the back and fold to the front. With a machine of course. I don't have the patience, or the time, to hand sew it down. Well good luck on your project! :D
