    Hey Ducky 3D, to connect nodes you can use alt+right click (hold) and that snaps the output to what blender thinks is best input, but to make it according your choice, you can use alt+shift+right click (hold) that will come up with a menu and you can choose the one you need (to connect the nodes you need to hold right click and drag to another node. it will tell you the actoin is possible by giving a blue or red highlight on the outside). To cut off connections you can hold ctrl (command on mac) and drag. To switch a texture instead of deleting it and then adding a new one you can use shift+s to switch it(this is all included in the node wrangler, shift+w)
    Great video for beginners!
    Thanks!

  • @EliCamacho

    Love your tutorials, however I have one suggestion, a pet peeve of mine that I see in so many tutorials all over youtube. When you say hit [insert hotkey shortcut] don't just say the shortcut, also please mention what the hotkey is for and where we can manually find it just in case we forget the hotkey. This way people know exactly what they're doing and don't get lost. We know that hotkey "s" is for the scale tool, but what exactly is "ctrl + T" a hotkey for? See what I mean? For example when you say "hit Ctrl + T" we can see two nodes popped up, but for someone learning we want to actually know what exactly Ctrl + T is mapped to, not just what it does. It leaves people lost and confused. We can remember shortcuts better when we actually understand what it's mapped to (if that makes sense). Other than that keep making these tutorials, they're super helpful.

    so, ive seen this a few times now, what does putting the texture between the mapping and object coordinate node actually do? does it make a different to mix it before vs mixing it after?

    • @maxgrey3694
      @maxgrey3694 3 роки тому +1

      Ok, this is a bit hard to explain but I'll try my best to give you some sense of what it's doing. As he says in the video, the input value going into the coordinate node is called the vector line. The purpose of this input is to tell the texture node how to wrap around the 3d object. By default, this map is comprised of simple linear gradients that evenly project the texture onto the object. But when you mix in another texture you disrupt those simple gradients, therefore warping the texture. If you were to instead just blend the textures together afterwards neither of them would be warped, you'd just be combining the values somehow. I hope this helped. There's a lot more to this, but it's all based on some relatively basic math that can be super useful once you wrap your head around it. I left the math out because it would just make my explanation more confusing and lengthy without giving you much practical information.

    so glad i have an amd card and can't actually use blender without crashing my whole pc every time i render or preview materials in viewport :)
    I remember the old days, 3 months ago, when cycles and eevee actually worked with my build but now i press render and wait for my pc to crash. Months of scouring forums and submitting logs and still cycles/eevee doesn't work and the resounding conclusion is "that's just amd for you" :) worst part is literally nothing changed! one day cycles just stopped working with my card and since then my 3d dreams have been crushed. I've rolled back drivers, clean installed my current drivers, tried old versions of blender, nothing works. it's as if someone came into my house in the night and swapped my rx5700 for a piece of toast. if anyone knows what i can do aside from throwing my gpu in the garbage, let me know :)

    • @goldwater1059
      @goldwater1059 4 роки тому

      @DoctorRyan Studios thanks for the suggestions, sadly no version i've tried this month (2.78, 2.79, 2.8, 2.83, 2.9, 2.91 to name a few) have made a difference. I'm using an rx 5700. Prorender works every time for full renders and almost all of the time in the viewport, just not cycles or eevee. Not really a fan of prorender so i guess im gonna save up for a new card lol

    • @maxgrey3694
      @maxgrey3694 3 роки тому

      You can do this by plugging it into a color ramp and using it to tune the contrast and the min/max values. You could also do it using a brightness and contrast node, which would let you use sliders to do the same thing with a little less fine control. Hope this helped!
