- In the 13th episode, I cover a huge amount of work including exhaust, brakes, fuel tank as well as putting more of the front end together. A lot of waiting for parts has kept this one on hold but now we're almost ready to ride!
Welcome to Project FZR1000. Follow my progress as I restore my 27 year old super bike back to it's former glory.

Just subbed…. Great content bringing bk memories of snapping my forks wheeling over a bridge in Southport …. Many many moons ago.
🏴 Love from Scotland 🏴
Haha cheers! That sounds like there’s a good story there 😂
Bloody perfect Tom!!! I really love seeing another FZR being done the proper way.
Looking forward for the next video and the first ride 😊
Very good video
Bloody brilliant! Great to see it all coming together Tom, hopefully on the home straight now. Looking forward to the next episode 👍
Another great video! Nice work. That FZR is going to look great!
I've owned 2 FZR1000s, one was a 1992 with a Ducati rear end which had a big bore kit - was a bit mental for me as I was only 22 years old and the insurance was more than the bike was worth, the other was a 1988 Genesis model - bog standard. They're great bikes, solid build quality (exup valve issues aside). Keep up the great work and I look forward to the next episode 👍
Great stuff there Tom! Glad to see the expert helping you with the brake discs :)
Thanks Stuart! What could go wrong? 😂
@@tomsworkshopprojects Pre-emptive sibling rivalry?
Amazing video as always, keep going, I can't wait to see the bike running. If want to buy the decals there is a guy in Portugal who does them.
Ooops. I need that guy's link if you can please!
all those small details gona make that a cracking bike (just done that eXup valve job on an early R1 complete pia)
get yourself some black harpic 10x toilet cleaner, amazing on exhuasts and rusty metal.
I have the same bike that is in stages of rebuild. This winter im going to take it up again and try and get it done by spring
Nice, hope you get it sorted!
Great work Tom. The torque wrench audio sync was a touch of class. Were the German headers beyond autosol-ing?
Considering how long it took to get that to work I’m very glad someone noticed 😂 I think so, I did give them a similar scrub up and buff but to be honest by that stage I was just desperate to get a correct fitting set on the bike! Problem with getting close to finishing and being impatient 😂
I think I would have cleaned the front of the engine when I had the headers off.
Tom, enjoying the video just found them. Would you know why a 1995 clutch basket won't fit in a 1991 engine
I know its a different year but wanted to know if you knew the reason. Thanks in advance
Cheers Henry, I’m not sure I’m afraid, I know they did make slight modifications to the engine across the different versions, but I haven’t got around to anything on the clutch of mine yet. Is it the same part number across the different years? That’s usually my quick check to see if somethings compatible
Hello, I am from the Czech Republic. I have the same motorcycle and it has been standing and not running for more than 5 years. I was interested in your video because I want to renovate my motorcycle and get it working. Query. : clean the fuel tank of dirt. Did you use any fuel tank cleaner?? Thank you
Hi, welcome! I used Deox-C to remove the rust in the tank which worked really well. Good luck with it!
@@tomsworkshopprojects Thank you for answer. 👍👍
V 17:07 min do you add brake fluid through the brake caliper up into the reservoir? That procedure is because of the air in the liquid??
Yeah it’s a technique called reverse bleeding which I find a lot more effective at bleeding empty lines. I still revert to the normal method after to make sure there’s no bubbles left.
@@tomsworkshopprojects Thank you for answer. 👍👍
These FZR engines can take turbo pretty well, right? Yamaha was way ahead with these bikes, always liked them
Nice work 👌 question dude I have 1992 fzr 1000 just wondering what’s the battery voltage should be as I measured and it’s between 14 and 15v is it correct ?
Sounds about right, the manual says it should be 14.3v and 15.3v at 3k rpm
@@tomsworkshopprojects thank you so much !! 😊 now I can drive it with no worries of thinking that the bike will stop in any minute 😅😅
Hey. Can you please identify where does the fan plug goes?
I routed mine up through the baffle that the coil packs sit on.
