The thing is with everything that has happened this past year this game has helped me keep my mind. With everyone telling us doom and gloom I have found joy from playing this game. It keeps my mind occupied in a good way. Thinking and problem solving every turn is amazing. I could play this game till it is time to go to sleep because no two games are ever the same.
That's really, really great to hear, Thomas! This past year has been so difficult in so many different ways for people and it's important to be able to find things to inject some positivity into our lives. I'm so glad to hear that playing Marvel Champions has brought you such joy! Here's to a better year ahead of us (with much more Marvel Champions content too!)
I’m a huge marvel fan and bought this purely for that reason…. I have very little exposure to other board games and this is my first living card game. And I’m hooked! It’s the theme that does it for me. Every pack I’ve bought just fits with the characters from the comics/screen.
Yeah they honestly continue to impress me with their implementation of theme with each new pack. Hard to believe they can keep capturing the essence of some of these characters so well.
Great points, well said! The accessibility was a big reason why I ended up getting this game to start, about a year after it came out. So many of the other LCGs are made so that you need to buy two or even three of the core sets to get playsets of useful cards, but Champions isn't like that. I was able to get the core set and have a blast, and that led me to wanting to collect everything. kind of a side point to that, it was actually possible to collect everything without having to go to secondary markets! You could come into this game today and still be able to easily purchase anything and everything that has been released for Champions, so new players won't miss anything. I like that a lot.
After playing LoTR LCG for years I am reminded how much Difficulty matters too. I often play either True Solo or with my wife and LoTR just felt like punishment everytime we played. Out of all the card and board games we play Marvel Champions is what hits the table most often. Winning or Losing feels like it's my fault rather than not deck building to the scenic properly. The designers found a great win/loss ratio with scalable difficulty for those that want it. My absolute favorite game in many many years.
Very true. You definitely want to be challenges, but you want to be in control of the challenge and be able to adjust what you do and have it make a difference. I guess that's why many people hated the Ronan scenario because it felt punishing for the sake of being punishing without being able to be rewarded for adjusting your strategy for him. Thanks for the comment, glad you're enjoying the game so much!
The only problem I have with this game is that there are too many good heroes to choose from! I love them all and sometimes I have a hard time choosing who to go with. Hats off to the developers for creating a solid card game that I will enjoy for years to come.
Good video. I thought it was odd in the Quackalope video that they seemed to think a person needs to buy everything. I think the opposite is true, that most people don't buy everything.
It's definitely one of the perks that you don't need to buy everything to enjoy it. However, if you want the best deckbuilding experience, you're definitely incentivized to buy a lot more.
No content requires any prior content outside of the core box. Another positive for those who enjoy Arkham Horror more is the success of the MC Model seems to have had repercussions for AH. So even if you don't play MC it's had a +ve influence on other LCGs IMO such as a proper new full core and the new expansion model.. all just that bit more revolved around player experience than profit. Hopefully they repackage the previous cycles and I may be tempted to get more as I'm definitely not going pack chasing again. Personally when I play MC I feel like I'm doing lots and making numerous decisions each turn compared to other games so feel very actively involved mechanically.... It's just simply so much fun as a result of this IMO. I watched the Ant Man film yesterday only because I'd played MC with Ant Man. The whole thing made sense and I enjoyed it more because I'd played MC as I've never really read comics.
Great points! There is something about Marvel Champions and how it approaches thematics that actually makes me want to re-watch the movies or dive deep into the comics to learn more about the background on some of the characters I'm less familiar with.
All of these are great reasons to play Marvel Champions! I'd also add something under the thematics that there is usually an emerging narrative in the game, if you only use a bit of imagination. Once Thanos comes out and you fight him with Gamora and play Nebula as an ally, then her nemesis set comes into play, all of a sudden it's feeling a lot like Endgame. I love that stuff!
Great video 👌🏻 A few features of the game that I would add to this list: -> Playing MC 2 handed solo is easier/more enjoyable than other living card games, imo, because MC demands less "bookkeeping" than those other games, so it feels less fiddly/overcomplicated to play with 2 heroes by oneself. -> The variability you can add into the scenarios (thru modular sets, villain deck composition, normal/expert encounter cards, campaign mode vs no campaign) translates into a lot of flexibility. (There's even a "rookie" mode to play with kids!) Happy gaming 😊
Excellent response. The way the Quackalope video came off to me was as a lengthy series of reasons to reject the game with the aim of getting people into the game with eyes wide open regarding its weaknesses and strengths. Keep up the content!
Great video!! I super agree on how amazing it plays at 1- and 2-player and how helpful that is. Typically, I’ll invite one or two other people for a game night - if we get three, we’ll play something like Root, but if there’s just two of us, or no one can make it, Marvel Champions it is and game night is saved. Game-changer. (Also I love that you took Quackalope’s video as a challenge, I feel like that’s exactly what they hoped other creators would do, good job!)
Hey Andy, you're totally right. Having Marvel Champions has a "fall back" option when you end up with some people not being able to make it for game night is a great idea because it's such a fantastic 2-player experience! Thanks for the comment and glad you liked the video!
Just discovered this game a few months ago. I generally play all sorts of board games and almost sold this one because I had it for a year and hadn't played it. Decided to just give it a shot and ooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhh boy, I cannot stop thinking about this game. It is A BLAST! Every hero pack is a new, fun and exciting adventure. I just got the Green Goblin scenario pack and played through the first scenario and MAN! It is so much fun. If you have it on your shelf of shame and you haven't played it, pull it down and give it a chance.
Currently helping my better 3/4 get into the game. I try not to QB, I did for the first few hands. We are having tremendous fun. Now to repair the fixation on Ag and Capt. Marvel. New house rule, pick a new dude. We have a few. I am so impressed with this game. Maybe it’s because it fits perfectly with my game style. Maybe it’s just great. And let’s be honest, those are 10 reasons to experience MC.
Enjoyed the light-hearted response to Quackalope's 5 reasons vids. You make some great points advocating for this excellent game. I think the designer's commitment to making unique thematic heroes keeps me interested in the game. Hoping they can continue to expand on the villain mechanics. Cheers!
I didn't think I'd be into Marvel Champions before watching AYCB's content. And now I'm ALLL IN. I think the theme is just fantastic. Really easy to play and setup but also very deep. Lots of perks!
The 4th reason is exactly what I love in this game, and the very reason that made me quit online video-games or anything that is competitive, I just had no fun anymore playing games where I put pressure on myself for nothing . This game is just pure fun.
Thank you for this video! Just started out (purchasing someone’s almost complete collection) and am trying to go slowly. Currently play AH and LOTR LCG and have been looking at MC for some time and have been hesitant to get in. You’ve made some really great points in the video, especially the solo aspect and thematic aspects. Bonus points - also from Winnipeg (although not living there now) :)
I was so pleasantly surprised by the format. After being initially a bit burnt by LOTR LCG (and thinking that MC was similar to that), I stayed away from it, until a shop owner from a local game store convinced me to buy it. It's got a surprising amount of depth for a brawler! I got the Mad Titan expansion yesterday, and the feeling is literally as you described in the video: excitement to try out everything; it's got a lovely 'light' campaign mode, and just lots of stuff you recognise from movies, comics etc! While I'm still a true AH fanboy at heart, I pull out MC when I just want to play something lighter.
What made you feel a bit burnt by LOTR LCG? I had the same feeling. For me it was that LOTR was more 'dreadful' than I expected. You never feel powerful or strong or like you can do something. It's constantly dragging you down. I know that practically every co-op game is designed in a way that every turn bad stuff happens. It just felt constantly a lot more debilitating in LOTR. And although I like the challenge sometimes (I do enjoy Arkham Horror LCG for instance) I don't always want to feel like I'm about to lose. I like the tension but I also like feeling at somewhat capable with my deck and not just being absolutely bludgeoned to death from start to finish. And MC is a lot easier for me to set up in a way that I will have an 'easy' time of it and still have fun with it. Or play on Heroic 3 and really hit my against the wall if I feel so inclined. Which is a great deckbuilding exercise.
I like Marvel Champions and have nothing to complain about except the obvious monetary issue. I own everything that is out in German and have played most of it. I like Marvel in general and love playing at 2 players. The heroes so far seem super thematic, I specifically like the size-changing heroes like Ant-Man and Wasp. You are right about the comparison to Arkham Horror and the campaigns/mythos packs availability but I still have to admit, that I like the story-driven part of Arkham Horror LCG a lot and maybe I like AH: LCG a tiny little bit more than MC: LCG. But actually, I love both. I will play them also under very different conditions because I usually only play campaign/story games if I am on holiday or have a lot of time on the weekend. MC I can basically play whenever because it does not have that overarching story (most of the time).
Yes, absolutely. Arkham LCG definitely has an advantage in terms of story and narrative. With Marvel, you're sort of creating the narrative yourself each game and using your imagination more to tell a story and tie it altogether. Arkham leads you through a winding story and that's part of the fun. I do enjoy that they come to the table and offer different experiences though!
@@AllYouCanBoard exactly. I feel they both definitely deserve to coexist on our shelf. Just played 2 more scenarios of Arkham, but also looking forward to try out Quicksilver in MC, that just arrived here in Germany.
I play this game because they have created a system that allows for theme to easily be felt with the game mechanics. When I play Hawk-Eye, I FEEL like a squishy archer with trick arrows. When I play Iron Man, I FEEL like I'm assembling my armor and getting more and more powerful. When I play Hulk, I FEEL like a brainless idiot!
I love everything about this game. I agree with all of your points. Your “options” argument is why I own everything. Even all the promo cards and game mats. I don’t do a ton of deck building. FFG designed each hero/scenario with character theme in mind. Each already feels accurate to their comics persona. At most, I’ll do deck tinkering. My hopes and dreams: Ghost Rider, Daredevil, Hobgoblin, Silver Surfer/Galactus, and an un-nerfed Hulk
I'm adamantly against LCGs because I know I'll get addicted to them incredibly easily haha, but I also think in a competitive environment it just comes down to the biggest wallet wins. But your enthusiasm makes me want to at least try it out. You've converted me! Plus I think when it's a cooperative game, it's just a bunch of mini expansions that you can choose whether or not you want to buy. I think saying "don't play a game" is silly. You may not want to buy a game, but if you don't play something you'll never know if you like it and the great part about the hobby is that someone out there probably has that game you'd want to try, and would love to introduce it to you.
@@Christopher-pm2ds Oh yeah, fair enough, I guess there is that distinction - I guess since lcgs are just always coming out with new content and I don't play many of them I lump them into the same category. Both hit me with that addiction factor though, covid and hearthstone was a good time... But not a good time haha
@@RoomandBoardReviews yeah, the Arkham LCG has been slowly milking me for ~20-30/month for years. But compared to a short stint playing MTG where it got out of hand...and I quit that one. I once played a ton of Hearthstone, it's also addicting (and good)
I've been really enjoying your Champions content! I love the game, and it's fun to just sit and listen to someone else hype out about it every time a new pack is announced or released. Thank you for all the time and effort you put into these videos! I've only played 3-4 player a couple of times, I wish I could play more because it allows you to build even more thematic decks that are hyper-focused on being good at one thing, and with 3-4 players you can cover everything that way in a way you can't in 1-2 players. The downtime can be killer for sure though.
1. For newcomers I'd sat it's even easier to get into now, because you can just buy the things that you want and leave out the rest. I had to wait 6 months for captain america to get back in stock (i live in Denmark), and starting with the basic box was quite underwhelming. 2. I agree with the themes. Hulk still sucks though 😄 3. I think it works best at 3 player. I would like to see some REAL team up cards that take advantage multiplayer like "2 other players attack and refresh their heroes". It needs some improvement for 4 player . 4. 100% agree. I have nothing to add. 5. I mean either people like living card games or they don't. I like organizing the game myself, creating dividers etc. It's part of the hobby 👏
@@AllYouCanBoard The real reason is that it actually feels like a worthy fight. 1. It's longer. 2. My experience in 1 or 2 player is that the (non- stalwart) villains can be stunned/confused pretty much the whole game, which isn't as bad in 3&4 player. 3. doing things like requesting actions, defending for your friends, killing their minions, giving each other buffs from each aspect is the key to good gameplay.
I’m a fan, play solo and whilst late to the party I really like it , lots of modular ways of altering it and it’s very smooth in terms of setup and function. I played a bit with black panther and lost 5 times in a row before winning, next game was iron man and I won first time. It’s fun. Challenging and a good journey
100% the theme of the game is what got me into it. Each hero deck and villain feels completely different and on point. I was a huge Legendary fan but Champions blows Legendary out of the water with how well all the pieces fit together.
Good points. I am obviously on the for side and the play description from Quakalope did not seem familiar a all ( sounded more like Sentinels). I agree on Accessibility - easier to pick & choose what you get than LOTR or AH and far far cheaper than MTG or KDM. AH has a very rich narrative experience but if you just want a quick fix MC is better. It also builds on the mechanics of LOTR (and AH and even San Juan) to give a slicker more dynamic game, fitting the genre. Theme - is great which is why the one real miss - the Hulk stands out so much. Great Solo, I have barely touched it 2 player let alone with more but not being a 3/4 player game is a pretty petty downside. Coop - LOTR is coop too. I was not interested in that when it came out but was very impressed when I finally tried it. So much that I was disappointed the Star Wars game was competitive. I hope they do get round to a co-op Star Wars one. Most (all?) 2 player games I play are coop or overtly wargames. Options - I will find it hard not to buy every hero eventually but I do not miss Wrecking Crew. There is a lot of variety even if some of the aspects are still a bit lacking in breadth. I am not really a Marvel fan only a passing fan of the movies so it does something well.
All great points! And yes, LOTR is co-op, I might have said it wasn't. I think I was mixing it up with the Star Wars one as I haven't played either yet really. I do think the 3 and 4 player comments/thoughts are valid, but it really depends on each person. If you're younger and are constantly going to find yourself playing with sisters or brothers in the household at 3 or 4 for instance, you might have a different experience than someone who gets to play solo and 2 player all the time. It's not at all a BAD game at 3 and 4, but I do think there's a noticeable dropoff for me personally. But that's just me, everyone is different! Thanks for the comment!
Thanks to that game i learned to play LCG's, because of clear and very accessible way they present rules. After first few games i switched to Lord of the Rings LCG. Much more fun and satisfaction for me.
Good video, definitely knew it was a response to the other one. I've been in since the beginning, have all the things, and my interest definitely waxes and wanes. One point that they brought up that affects my passion for the game, and one I'd be interested in your response to, is that it's fundamentally a game about numbers and colors. Every so often I get to the point where I feel like it's just a big ol' math problem that I can't solve, which is frustrating because I've loved Marvel content since I was a kid in the 80s, but I've hated math almost as long. Just curious about your take on the colors and numbers aspect of the game. Solid MC content as always, I've checked out a fair amount of it so far and def like it. ✌🏾
I’ve never felt like it’s just a “numbers and colors” game because it’s so damn thematic. I mean yah “Ok I play this then this and bam thats 15 damage and I win” but isn’t that any other game ever that has numbers in it? Marvel theme in this game is soooo good that it overpowers that imo
Yeah the Maths and Colours thing was brought up buy Quack but I'd say you can boil most games down to something similar and I think they were stretching a bit there. Ultimately due to the modularity you can tune out the maths to make it more forgiving so kind of a moot point IMO. Though I do get it that some people are only happy when they can win on the hardest difficulty which does require more deck analysis, construction and perfect play and even with all this you can still loose. All those videos online of someone steamrollering a difficult Villain on Heroic easily.. you don't know how many attempts it took or if they stacked the deck or first hand draw etc :P
I can understand the math and numbers point when it comes to the end of the game. I've heard a few people bring up how the ending of many games of Marvel Champions can feel anticlimactic and ends up being a case of going "well if we do this and then this...and attack here...yup, we win" rather than always been this big finish. However, for me personally, it doesn't bother me too much or detract from the experience and I'm still just as thrilled when I take down a really tough encounter. But I do understand the point! I think it will depend on everyone individually and how they feel about it.
Good points. The theme is definitely awesome. Since the core box, when I played Black Panther exclusively for like a month, I've always found it very thematic because I have no problem using my imagination to picture the comic playing out on the table. I guess because of watching certain content creators who talk a lot about card efficiency and whatnot, I started letting the maths creep into my thought process a bit much. Add in the vast amount of player card options and the leaderboard of the Solo Champions League, and I caught myself trying to build the "best" deck to get the highest score on the challenge instead of the most fun deck to play. I'm coming back around to just playing for fun tho. I love that I can play solo, it's like my own little Marvel Meditation 🧘🏾♂️
Only 5? 😂 I’ll watch this later, not because I need reasons, but because you always get me more hyped to play. And now I have a custom Red Hulk villain deck to try out 🥳
Haha, there are several great reasons to play! But like most games, it's not for everyone. I feel like if you already enjoy card games though, there's a good chance you'll find something to love here, especially if you also have an attraction to Marvel comics or movies.
I’ve been pondering whether or not to get this game. Your video may have tipped the scale. I have the base, scarlet witch, and black widow in my cart ready to hit the purchase button. I wish there was a bit more variety of villains, but I know that will eventually change.
Great video as usual, I'm watching this while also looking at my box full to the brim with cards hahaha, I have everything minus a couple of heroes that are incoming :P. But very good reasons.
Wow! I feel you, man! Your enthusiasm is so contagious! And every of your point resonates so well with my gaming and collector ego. I am so going to buy Marvel Champions this week! Thanks for your great analysis. It's almost as fun as the game itself :)
Great video, I'm now super excited to try Marvel Champions ! I bought this game recently with the idea to play it with my wife (who's greatly interested in the MCU but not always too keen on more complex board games). It's great to hear you can play it best at two players, and also that everyone can choose the amount of complexity and thought they want into their deckbuilding. Quick question: do you think it's an accessible game for someone who doesn't like complex ones? My wife likes Splendor and Azul, but it a bit intimidated by higher difficulty games.
I think if she is already a Marvel fan and will play games like Azul and Splendor, it's definitely worth the shot of introducing it to her! There are definitely some complexities and nuances that if someone hasn't played a lot of trading card games, there will be a barrier to entry slightly, but I don't think it's anything overly difficult. Also, because it's competitive, you both can work together and you can help her out with the introduction of it!
The game is accessible, but it falls into the same pack issues as something like AH. Players often end up chasing after aspect cards. Not only is Captain America one of the best heroes, the pack has some of the best leadership cards. Same with Dr. Strange. The theme is on point and it shines in the gameplay itself. The build up, the big hits, the setbacks, the final KO all feel very comic book. The game is good at pretty much all player counts in my experience. The only real drawback I see is it's possible to make the game real easy. The pressure from MC comes from the scenarios. I've never had to deal with unhelpful pressure from other players partly because we've always kept it helpful, and partly because if someone doesn't, I disregard it. If I wanted to play a boring netdeck, I'd already be doing it. My biggest gripes with the game as of 2022 are the deckbuilding isn't great. Some aspects are better than others, though they can shore up weaker heroes. There's a big reliance on team traits. I get it's thematic, but it feels like a crutch now. The game still utilizes the nonsensical design philosophy of printing bad cards for LCGs because FFG couldn't completely divorce itself from CCG style production. And.. the Sinister Six box needed better heroes. The only people I know who actually like Miles, Gwen, or the other Champions are my 1st grader and maybe some of his friends....and that's because Disney reskinned PJ Masks with those characters. Would have liked to see stuff like Black Cat, Daredevil, or some of the Defenders.
This game plays well with 3 as well. But yes the sweet spot is 2. And I've played it solo and enjoy it, but it will always be better having a friend and recently my wife gave it another shot and really enjoyed it, now she wants to play it all the time.
That's totally fair! There will absolutely be plenty of people who love it at 3 and 4 players, even if some others don't quite like it as much as those counts. I'm just glad the options exist!
Let's go Dylann! I understand that the rulings can get crazy at times, but there's a level of challenge that this game satisfies for me. The deckbuilding options have become insane! Like you say, the accessibility of this game is amazing. One thing that BoardGameCo mentioned that was terrible was the game is just "math." You can argue that for a plethora of games. I thought that was a bad take due to the hit points mechanics in any game. Not to mention any Euro or worker placement game. Either way, thanks for cape-ing up for this game.
I think it depends on a couple factors. Do you enjoy the Marvel theme? Do you already know the characters, or at least some of them? That will go a long way to having this be a more enjoyable experience. Beyond that, are you looking for a game you can play solo as well? MC is a fantastic solo game. But even besides those factors, this is a game that you can get into with just the core box and then slowly add more cards over time if you're finding that you're really hooked. Hope that helps!
Yes, you're right. I mentioned this in another comment, definitely mixed up LotR and the Star Wars LCG there. I haven't played either one personally so I'm not super well-versed in them but know that LotR, Arkham and Marvel all share a lot of DNA!
I never played a card game like this. I play Digital ones like heartsone, snap etc. My gf bought me the starter pack and man. I am so confused! I wanted to play with a group of 4 and there is spiderman and cpt.marvel already ready decks. So I need 2 more. Game also comes with blackpanter, she hulk and ironman. But there isnt enough basic cards to make 4 decks. There is a guide that shows what needs to be in each heroes deck but non of the heroes other than spiderman and cpt marvel has nemesis cards? I am so lost.
I just wanted to say, I love your marvel champions Videos. You have a very smooth friendly art and I totally agree with you. Keep up your good work! New subscriber for you :)
I am not a big Marvel fan but I do enjoy the mechanics of this game. I have everything up to and including Silver Surfer and have decided to stop there. I mean this game is a money pit ... if you let it be. Not being a big fan of Marvel makes it easy for me to cut ties, as I don't know who Drax or Nebula are so lucky for me I'm not itching to see if the character matches the game play. Having said that, I really enjoy playing this game single and dual handed solo and believe I have plenty to keep me going for a long time. Great video and points made in favour of the game. Cheers
Great video, marvel champions is in my top five games. I have everything for it so far. You guys should do a video on your card game storage solutions. Playing Arkham LCG, Marvel Champions and Magic I’m always interested in creative solutions for the amount of content they have out there now. Thanks guys, cheers!
As soon as I have a storage solution that I think is worth sharing, I will! Haha. That's something I'd like to improve soon as I'm always fighting for space!
I have everything and am currently using the Gamegenic Dungeon, 2 24 page 9 pocket ganegenic zipper binders, and 1 gamegenic watchtower. I use the binders for aspects and dungeon for champions, villains, and modular sets. I still got plenty of space to fill up!
You're too kind, thanks so much! We're humbled that over 3000 people have chosen to subscribe already and choose to watch our content! We don't take it for granted.
It’s not “thematic” unless you like the theme. I cannot tell you how much I don’t care about this universe or the characters in it. I may as well be playing with cards showing random strangers. It’s not “thematic” to play cards and solve math problems, in a game that is about the defeating villains.
I would have to disagree with you a bit there. I can absolutely sympathize with people who just don't like Marvel or superheroes in general because it will be a barrier for entry in this game that will likely make it harder to enjoy. That being said, I don't think disliking a theme means that it isn't thematic. There are plenty of games I don't enjoy or particularly like, but I can still recognize that they implement their theme well. The game just happens to not be for me. As for it not being thematic to play cards or solve math problems, by that logic, pretty much all board games would not be thematic then, as all board games usually involve playing cards, moving pieces on a board, doing some math with the score, etc, etc. I think for something to be thematic, you need to suspend some reality and look beyond some of the actions you're doing and into what those actions entail or are supposed to represent. Either way though, I definitely agree that if you don't like the theme of Marvel Champions, you are unlikely to be able to fully get into it! Carlo isn't a big Marvel fan and even though he appreciates the game, it's the biggest hurdle for him getting more invested in the game. Thanks for watching!
@@AllYouCanBoard For me, “thematic” means more than “I like the theme of this game, and I kind of like the game, therefore it is a thematic game.” “Thematic” Means that the story the game is telling is significantly evoked by the actions you are taking as a player. For example, in the game Survive, When your meeples are literally ‘running’ from the island and jumping on boats. That is a more directly visceral and story -based action than Playing a card with a number on it that represents some sort of attack at some sort of strength value. It would have been kind of stupid for me to argue a definition of “thematic” wherein no board game could ever satisfy it.
Enjoyed the video! Recently got game and beat down intro Rhino a couple tinmes but intrigued and looking forward to trying the different heroes in core box. And to be fair, those guys love the game and were really just trying to get cute on their reasons NOT to play 🤡
When you face Thanos in the next expension. It will be DOOM
@@starxhilmie I like a challenge but I just hope that Thanos is not insane. They would have to do a Fantastic Four block to introduce Doom.

Great points, well said! The accessibility was a big reason why I ended up getting this game to start, about a year after it came out. I was able to get the core set and have a blast, and that led me to wanting to collect everything.

Preach, brother. This game’s the best
I'm jumping in! You finally wore me down. Just ordered the core set. Thanks for all the great information!

Agreed! If you have the knowledge and backstory for these characters, things feel even MORE thematic and it's even more rewarding.
Great video 👌🏻
A few features of the game that I would add to this list:
-> Playing MC 2 handed solo is easier/more enjoyable than other living card games, imo, because MC demands less "bookkeeping" than those other games, so it feels less fiddly/overcomplicated to play with 2 heroes by oneself.
-> The variability you can add into the scenarios (thru modular sets, villain deck composition, normal/expert encounter cards, campaign mode vs no campaign) translates into a lot of flexibility. (There's even a "rookie" mode to play with kids!)
Happy gaming 😊
Great additions! Thanks for chiming in. I often flip back and forth between true solo and 2 handed solo because I love both styles so much.
As soon as I saw this I knew it was a response to quackalope
Haha. in the friendliest way possible! Those guys are great and pretty sure they both really like Marvel Champions.
@@AllYouCanBoard yup, found them through root
Glad you've enjoyed your time with Marvel Champions! It's certainly a slippery slopes as I've learned myself!
- Braiden
Cheers!
Thanks Brian, I'm also curious to see what new, wild ideas they can come up with for villains and scenario packs!
I didn't think I'd be into Marvel Champions before watching AYCB's content. And now I'm ALLL IN. I think the theme is just fantastic. Really easy to play and setup but also very deep. Lots of perks!
My initial goal with the MC videos was basically to wear you down until you were all-in. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.
@@AllYouCanBoard 🤣🤣. Yeeeep didn't take long.
Very insightful response, Marc! Thanks for sharing!
@@lystic9392 I think this captures exactly what my experience was. I'm also an avid AH player, and use MC as a bit of an easier/no-brain type of game
Why do YOU play Marvel Champions? Or why is it not for you? Let us know!
I play marvel legendary instead haha
CCGs (like Magic) is where the biggest wallet wins, not LCGs....
Thanks for the kind words, Chuck! Glad you've been enjoying the content!
1. For newcomers I'd sat it's even easier to get into now, because you can just buy the things that you want and leave out the rest. I had to wait 6 months for captain america to get back in stock (i live in Denmark), and starting with the basic box was quite underwhelming.
2. I agree with the themes. Hulk still sucks though 😄
I find it so interesting that you enjoy it most at 3! That's awesome. I'm excited to play it more at 3 myself now that the pandemic is easing up.
I actually love this at 4 player. What's better than 4 friends cheesing out with superheroes?!
Well, I’ll say it : you convinced me ! I was hesitating between MC and TLOTR but I think I’ll have more fun with Marvel thanks to you !
100% the theme of the game is what got me into it. Each hero deck and villain feels completely different and on point. I was a huge Legendary fan but Champions blows Legendary out of the water with how well all the pieces fit together.
I feel the same way, legendary was one of my favorite card games but now all i play is marvel champions
You had me at Marvel 😍
I've been debating for this one, but now I feel like I Should!
We fully agree with the tryhard aspect. Those were some strong arguments on a very controvesial subject. You are a clever dude, keep it up!
Thanks a lot for the kind words! Glad you enjoyed the video. :)
Good points. I am obviously on the for side and the play description from Quakalope did not seem familiar a all ( sounded more like Sentinels). I agree on
Accessibility - easier to pick & choose what you get than LOTR or AH and far far cheaper than MTG or KDM.
I started this game 1 week ago and It Is fantastic. I have only the core set but i have a lot of thing to do!!!
I wish there was a bit more variety of villains, but I know that will eventually change.
annnnnnnnnd, it's on it's way ;)
Great video as usual, I'm watching this while also looking at my box full to the brim with cards hahaha, I have everything minus a couple of heroes that are incoming :P. But very good reasons.
Yeah I was definitely very jealous of the storage solutions that Quackalope and BoardGameCo had. Need to get my hands on some of those soon!
Wow! I feel you, man! Your enthusiasm is so contagious! And every of your point resonates so well with my gaming and collector ego. I am so going to buy Marvel Champions this week! Thanks for your great analysis. It's almost as fun as the game itself :)
Glad you enjoyed the video and resonated with it! I hope you have a great time with Marvel Champions. :D
I play Champions with 5 players😅 Got too many marvel fans in my group!
5, wow! That must get pretty wild!
@@AllYouCanBoard Thanks a lot, I'll try!
So glad u made this video!!!!
This game plays well with 3 as well. But yes the sweet spot is 2. And I've played it solo and enjoy it, but it will always be better having a friend and recently my wife gave it another shot and really enjoyed it, now she wants to play it all the time.
I’ll def disagree with the player count thing. I LOVE 3 and 4 player games. I think I prefer them honestly
For someone who’s never played a card game before, is this worth it?
I think it depends on a couple factors. Do you enjoy the Marvel theme? Do you already know the characters, or at least some of them? That will go a long way to having this be a more enjoyable experience. Beyond that, are you looking for a game you can play solo as well? MC is a fantastic solo game. But even besides those factors, this is a game that you can get into with just the core box and then slowly add more cards over time if you're finding that you're really hooked. Hope that helps!
Iron man solo vs Rhonin? Good luck.
Anything's possible!! 😅
Who's Rhonin? Is it a mixed up version of Rhino (villain), Ronin (ally), and Ronan (villain)?
Just bought the game because of this video. Great channel, you’ve earned a sub!
Thanks a lot, Jack!
13:57 Lord of the rings LCG is absolutely not a competitive game! It was the first coop lcg, and most of Champions' DNA comes from it
Yes, you're right. I mentioned this in another comment, definitely mixed up LotR and the Star Wars LCG there. I haven't played either one personally so I'm not super well-versed in them but know that LotR, Arkham and Marvel all share a lot of DNA!
Several years on, how would you change your response to promote marvel champions?
I'm a huge fan of this game and I would really like to see an official online game release. Im gonna spend so much money on it
I never played a card game like this.
Thanks so much, Florian! Really appreciate the kind words and glad you're enjoying the content!
I still got plenty of space to fill up!
what about someone who's never played board games but really into marvel?
Is it easy for a newb like my to learn for solo? Also, I'm Nearsighted. Will that be a big problem?
I started playing just after kang

how about its replayability??
This game is the best. Except for hulk😢
Bought it month ago :D
Only reason not to play is to not make my weekends go so fast. :) Great game. Very addicting.
Great information, thank you.
@@AllYouCanBoard For me, “thematic” means more than “I like the theme of this game, and I kind of like the game, therefore it is a thematic game.”
“Thematic” Means that the story the game is telling is significantly evoked by the actions you are taking as a player.
Welll said
Same reason why I stopped MTG
There is however, one MAJOR downside. ORGANIZATION and STORAGE. Do not buy this game unless you have some kind of organization and storage option.
