He’s right too. I lost my dog of 15 years a few months ago and the loneliness you feel after they’re gone is agonizingly painful. Trying to get through each day now 😔
He had one Chihuahua that was almost 20 years old..... Dog traveled everywhere with him. I remember an interview one time he showed his dog's passport and the whole thing was full of stamps from different countries.
Funny how people kind of laughed at Rourke for thanking his dogs, then they realized how serious and sentimental he was, and everyone got so serious. Rourke's the man!
Amazing that he thanked his dogs, and the audience should have caught on to the fact that he is a genuine guy who is genuinely thankful to his four legged friends.... well done that man for being MAN enough to stand up for what he truly believed in, his best friends...
this speech is nothing... watch his "spirit award" speech... it's awseome and his dog loki died 6 days before and he even mentions it with a lump in his throat.... your welcome :)
Met him briefly in Hollywood, CA. The most humble best human being I ever met ! May God bless him and may people remember him for being a true great actor and a genuine, kind person at all times.
Yousuf Hasnain - I did get choked up. Because he's so right & I was at that point where all I had was my dog. Thanks for that Yousuf. I thought I was the only one that teared up when he said that.
Mickey is the real deal man !! In a world of fake people, especially in the acting world. It's so fucking refreshing to see a guy like Mickey Rourke who's genuine through and through.
Mickey Rourke is magic on screen and he has true acting talent which gives him the ability to give totally honest performances that touch the heart and soul.
Mickey Rourke the Legend. I was especially touched by his mention of his dogs, living and passed. Our pets are sometimes our greatest family and our most loyal friends.
@@vincentdc211 Yeah... in your dreams.... He made a lot of enemies in the Hollywood industry when he a young and a promising actor who was gonna make a lot of money for them. Mickey was blackballed by the Hollywood elite, the money people, the shakers and the movers. His talent is second to none. Everyone involved took a chance on him, many put their careers on the line. Interesting they needed a great song for the movie, out of money, Axel Rose of the famed band Guns and Roses GAVE them a huge hit, Sweet Child of Mine. The script was written for Mickey, the movie couldn’t have turned out any better and once again everyone wants a piece of Mickey Rourke. ( Also watch 9 1/2 Weeks )
It does not matter if he plays the roles of a scary monster or an old wrestler .The dimension of his talent is much bigger that nay description and any summary of what he can or can not do .Never in my life I have seen a Hollywood actor show the human misery so fully and so intensely as Mickey did .He is a great human being for all he has been thru and the dignity he has !!! I LOVE YOU MICKEY and love your love for the animals as well !!!!! All the good energy bless you always !!!
That had to be the most 'real' acceptance speech I've seen in years. Not just, "Oh, I'm so happy to be here. I'm going to drop some names and get off the stage." Really good stuff. Mickey Rourke is a legitimate human being, and I applaud that.
The guy's so great in the movie you forget he is a fucking actor. It is really beautiful what he says about his dogs. I love the way he makes the speech, like talking to friends in a bar, not like other self important actors
Dog's best friend-you are the man Mickey-you are a hero to all dogs everywhere. You have saved so many little precious souls and to me that is the coolest and kindest thing you can ever say about a man.Dogs are the greatest creation that God ever made.
Glad he remembered his good friend The Boss in the end there.....who donated the great title song, free of charge, to the film. Let me hear everybody say, Bruuuuuce!!!
Absolutely agree the scene with his daughter were he says he was wrong and is now a lonely washed up old man is the finest piece of acting since i first saw shawshank redemption at the end with Morgan Freeman reading the letter under the rock! And i agree he seems very similar in real life to the part he played in wrestler!! Fine fine actor who stood his ground over Hollywood snobs that cost him many years of no work and loneliness! Hope to see him in future films!!
Dogs truly are mans best friend and mine has proven it numerous times when I felt there was no one else in this world ! I know exactly where Mickey’s coming from with this statement! 👏👏👏
Mickey R IS the definition of MAN! Great actor that has been unappreciated. REAL in every sense of the word. And, actually your pets will ALWAYS be there for you & here is a person who realizes that. Thank you,M.R.
True man not just an actor! Sometimes u just gotta do it your way & Sometimes it knocks you on your ass. Well done with the humility you've earned it my friend
This and Al Pacino as “Sonny” in “Dog day afternoon”. Biggest Oscar omissions! Mickey is the kind of actor who leaves his mark in movies even if its a 3 minutes cameo. Truly a magnificent artist!
Mickey has in my personal opinion has been such an underrated actor I mean if you really watch his work he’s one of the few actors that when you watch him in film your not looking at it thinking of other films he’s been in, he truly immerses himself in that character and that’s all you see. His scene in the expendable talking about the woman is again an opinion but he told that story so well in that scene you truly felt every word and emotion it really was such incredible acting on his part
Mickey Route has it all and then some. He is the whole package and the best looking and actor. Had a tough life but came back and made the best of it and that takes guts. Would love to see him in more movies. Bless you More Cheyenne Rourke. I don’t think he knows how brilliant he is❤️
When I first watched this years ago I heard almost nothing that Mickey said, but when he said he thanked all his dogs and the audience laughed, I knew he was telling the truth. Dog IS man's best friend, and I will never forget that Mickey saved them for last in his thank you speech. As it should be.
Stormie33 to some people (like a good friend of mine RIP, that deal with lonliness) dogs can be almost everything. I gotta 2. And 2 kids as well...and a cat... but the cat is from my women.
Yes, a great moment to acknowledge our beloved animal companions.. So true what he said. Very happy for Mickey; what an amazing movie this is and everyone in it & behind it hit a major home run. Easily one of my faves.
looks like he's really someone who's getting back to the top,not only as a celebrity, but most important,as a person. my late congratulations to Mickey Rourke. awesome movie, awesome performance.

He was great in that movie; he was great in every movie from eureka, to diner to the fighter and everything in between. People wrote him off, he kept at it.
"The Wrestler" is one hell of a movie. And Mickey's performance is just flawless. It's a shame that after this he went back to do horrible pictures. I hope there's another great role waiting for him.

His monologue in Expendables I'd great as well fir it being a heavy action movie. If you get a chance watch it, it's almost like he lived it it was so sincere.
Always liked Rourke. Or I did later in my life as I learned more about him. He has his tough guy image. Did box at one point. Then came back to film. But what sticks out is u underneath..he's a real person. Not afraid to admit his love for his dogs. From an industry made around being "fake"...where BS is a way of life...we have Rourke (no he's not the only one...willing to be real). He had the name of one of his Chihuahua's that died engraved on one of his custom motorcycles. Meant that much to him. It died at 18 iirc...had a long life...Dogs ARE a gift.
