      Haha thanks!! I was pretty proud of it! I love the new Jaclyn Hill eyeshadow palette from Morphe (that's what I used)! My eyelids are super dry so I usually have a hard time blending eyeshadows, but the formula for these shadows is AMAZING! I feel like it's so much easier to blend with them!

    The first two times I applied, I applied the day applications went live. My third time applying, I waited about two months to apply. I my application immediately qualified me for the web interview, and my web interview immediately qualified me for the phone interview. I had that two days later. After two days, I was accepted. I suggest waiting until the middle of the application period, once the Recruiters have gone through the mass wave of applications from the first few weeks and things start calming down. I am leaving for my program in one month, and if all goes well, I will apply to do a second program immediately after graduation. 😊

      @@Javiertorres06 I loved my program so much, it was life changing. I ended up doing 2 before graduation!! I was supposed to start a 3rd one next month and then transfer to a full-time Cast Member, but my program was cancelled due to COVID. I recommend applying 100%. I made the best friends and memories of my life, and after dealing with depression for almost 15 years, I finally feel happy.

      Alyssa Rouso that is so freaking incredible to hear!! So happy for you about overcoming your depression a lot by making friends!! I’m currently studying political science as my major is that okay or will it not help me at all? I’m scared because if it doesn’t work out with my major idk if I’ll ever get a job at Disney which is my dream goal tbh. I have customer service experience and have a good resume so far but just worried about my major and job seeking opportunities, how did you go about it?

    • @alyssarouso
      @alyssarouso 4 роки тому +1

      @@Javiertorres06 Any major can do a program. I majored in Illustration, and I'm hoping that doing college programs will work as a foot-in-the-door to get me a job with their creative teams. If not, I'm totally happy working in the parks and freelancing on the side. The thing about working at Disney is that it's a HUGE thing to put on your resume.

    This was a super good video! I'm glad you addressed both pros and cons so we can expect not every day to be perfect! Funny, that I applied last semester and didn't even get to interviews at all, but this semester, I applied, two hours later got the email saying I can interview, so I did it, and then a week later I got the internship! So I'll be there Spring 2018. And I'm glad you said your friend did Food and Beverage and liked it! That what I got and it's not my top choice because I've been in food and beverage jobs for over 2 years now, so I wanna get out of it, but I'm just glad that I am given the opportunity to do this amazing program!

    • @mackenzhughes
      @mackenzhughes  7 років тому

      Yay!! That's so exciting, congrats!! Honestly, I'm one of those people who tries to find the silver lining in any situation (most of the time). I'm sure there are people who don't like it, but I had two different friends who absolutely loved it and said that the people they worked with were like family! And from what I've seen, a lot of the food and beverage people are like that! I think it's harder in the performer or attendant role because each shift you're probably with different people. But with a location where you're with the same people every time, I'm sure you get super close! I'm so excited for you, and I hope you have an amazing program!

    I have 2 questions....
    1- When character attending what are some special like requirements you have for the job?
    2- When you were hanging out with Ariel what type of makeup did Ariel wear?

    • @mackenzhughes
      @mackenzhughes  7 років тому +5

      +C Morrison I don't think there were any special requirements per say. The role included assisting guests with cameras, autograph books, and getting them ready to meet the character. And we would watch the characters and helped them if we needed to. Sometimes we had to open and close lines as well. And I cannot answer the second question without compromising character integrity ☺️

      how is that breaking character integrity? its not like she'd title it "i was ariel at disneyworld and this is how i did my makeup" lol. it can just be an "ariel inspired" makeup tutorial. i think that'd be really cool

    • @MiyLei
      @MiyLei 7 років тому +1

      Greyson McLemore it might be breaking the "integrity code" (not sure) but i think it is only contingent on whether or not she said, "when I worked at the park I was Ariel." Not sure if she actually was Ariel that she could do a tutorial. Also since I think it mainly depends on if she currently works there.

    I looked on the website about the program and read an article about tips on applying for the DCP. One recommendation was to make sure you have connections with the right contacts. Do you think that the recruiter will skip right over your resumé if you don't have any connections with disney contacts?

    • @YouShotMyRobot
      @YouShotMyRobot 7 років тому +5

      I did the DCP in Disneyland back 7 years ago, and at least back then they didn't skip over your resume. I did not have any connections and I still got an interview and got in. I'm sure connections will greatly help, like with any job. But I think you'd still have a chance.

    • @mackenzhughes
      @mackenzhughes  7 років тому +5

      I had zero contacts going into my program, and my application process went faster than other people's! Meaning that it took me a month to go through all the steps and get approved and it took other people a few months! So I don't think it matters whether or not you have connections going into the program!

    I have a couple questions:
    1) How does going to this program effect your college in the long run?
    2) Do you have any breaks to go home during the program?
    3) Does the Disney College Program have scholarships?
    Thank you so much for doing these videos! They're so helpful!

    • @mackenzhughes
      @mackenzhughes  7 років тому

      1. It depends! It didn't affect me because I applied my last semester of college and I did the program after I had graduated. You could also take online courses while you're there either through your college or through Disney (they offer collegiate courses) so that you won't have to make up the credit later. Or you could choose to not take classes and you would have to make up the semester later on.
      2. I was able to take time off because I was able to give my shifts away. If you can't give your shifts away or coordinate with your managers I'm not sure if you'll be able to take time off. It depends on the position too! I had no problem giving away shifts as an attendant because there were so many attendants. I had a harder time giving away shifts as a performer because the position wasn't as universal.
      3. I'm not sure if they do or not, I would hope they would! But you do get paid while you're there, so essentially you would make money from the program because you have to have a job while you're there. That would be a great question to email them and ask them directly!

    Thank you SO much for this video, Kenzie! I was also lucky enough to get in my first try last spring (would've been for this fall) for BBB and I was SUPER excited! And I was all set to go and audition for Character Performer as well. However, I had to decline the offer because I just couldn't make it work with how I wanted to finish my vocal music degree. I will be graduating a semester late already, I did change my degree plan a bit throughout my studies, so I'm planning on giving it another go and apply in my final semester in fall 2018- fingers crossed! So wonderful to hear you had a great experience! I'm no stranger to roommate issues, it seems to happen for most sorts of college-related programs and things. That history class sounds really awesome! If I'm lucky and get in again, I'd love to take it! As with marketing, as that's been something I've been interested in for a while as well, given Disney's successful track record too of course. The free resume/interview workshops sound really cool too, I didn't even know they had those! Another question related to DCP: if you could've done anything differently during your program, what would it be?
    Also omg your makeup in this video is amaaaazing!

    • @mackenzhughes
      @mackenzhughes  7 років тому

      Hi Lara!! I don't think I knew that you were accepted, that's so cool! I'm sure if they accepted you the first time you wouldn't have any problems applying the second time around! I'm crossing my fingers for you! I think if I could've done anything differently, it would be to take advantage of the workshops more. Some of them were tough to get to because they were early in the morning (like 7am but that was still early for me), and I didn't go. But looking back on it I think it would've been in my best interest had I gone to more of the workshops!

    I went through the DCP in Spring 2015. It was an amazing, fun experience. The people were great, the parties were great and the experience was simply awesome. Keep in mind, however..this should be viewed as a social experience, not a traditional internship that leads to employment. I went through in my sophomore year, while I was getting an engineering degree, with the hopes of being a design or systems engineer at one of the parks. After the program I went back, graduating with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. My senior year I took a (paid) traditional internship at Lockheed Martin for 10 months and was hired on graduation. I am currently a Systems Engineer based in Sunnyvale, California. As I said, the DCP is a fun, interesting, awesome program that I will always remember...but you must ask yourself..Is this the best use of my time? Would an internship that leads to employment be a better use of my efforts? Food for thought, anyway.

    So if my top choice is character performer for the DCP, I would have to pass the auditions. If they are successful do you notify Disney so you can get that role? And if I get cut how does that process work, do I just automatically qualify for the other choices? If so did you have to notify Disney that you didn’t pass so you can get the other choices?

    I am about to start the DCP internship Aug 21 as a character attendant for Fall 2017! All of your videos have been so incredibly helpful and inspiring. Deff my fav person to get disney videos from! Its my life long dream to be friends with Ariel in Walt Disney World. In the Voyage of The Little mermaid Show specifically! Meet and greet would be out of this world too! Any disney character would be a dream come true. If you come to Disney World this Fall I would love to meet you if you did a meet and greet somewhere. Thank you for all your help and inspiring words. :)

      Yay!! That's when I was a character attendant too, so you'll probably be able to do a lot of the halloween parties! They're SO much fun! They don't have auditions for Voyage too often, so I would keep an eye out for them! I'll let you know when I'll be there, I would love to meet you! :)

      Oh awesome! I'm obsessed with halloween so that so awesome to hear! And oh my goodness I know I saw one audition posted about a year ago or so when I was still in college as a theatre major in NY and wasn't able to attend. I then saw one other audition posted for Voyage a little more recently, about the beginning of this year, and was overjoyed to find out that I am the height requirement for Ariel in the show, 5'1-5'4, thats me! Still wasn't able to attend being in NY. Ill deff be keeping my eye out! I was honored to play Ariel in college which was just unreal and something I'll never forget. Looking forward to hopefully meeting you! That would be so wonderful. You have been so beyond helpful and inspiring. Meeting you would be such an honor.

    • @mackenzhughes

      I think it will be a lot easier for you to audition while you're living there! I think you're technically not supposed to audition if your'e in the college program, but auditions for those roles are so much more rare I think you should just go anyways if the opportunity arises! Are there any characters in particular you're hoping to attend for? Besides Ariel (I'm kinda assuming you would want to work with her!).

      Hey there! Omg I am just seeing this now! Super excited and nervous! I am absolutely hoping for Ariel, Alice, Tink, Wendy (if she comes out), Moana, Belle, Cinderella! All of the princesses I would love to work with all of the characters at least once! ahh! I love them all!

      I think things might look a little bit different right now with everything going on with the coronavirus. It looks their auditions website doesn't have many listings. Also they only open applications for the Disney College Program once every year (usually in January and then I think in August?). So that might be why you're not able to see much on that right now. But they should have a way to sign up on their website - just search "disney college program" and their website should pop up! Hope that helps!

      colleen castellani it might be because Flynn and Aladdin are major characters in their own right, whereas the princes of Cinderella and Ariel aren't really characters in the story

    • @mackenzhughes
      @mackenzhughes  7 років тому

      I would agree! Jasmine isn't technically the main character in her movie, and even though Rapunzel is the main character in her's the beginning of the story is Flynn Rider saying it's basically his story. I would say they're equally the main characters in that movie. Also Naveen plays a big role in the Princess and the Frog which is why he comes out for meet and greets more frequently. I think a lot of the princes aren't in as high of demand which is why they don't come out too often.

      Apparently people make facebook groups (I don't think I was ever part of one) and you can find roommates through that! I think if I didn't know anyone going into it I would do that. Were you doing like online classes while you were out there or did you just take a complete pause and then after you finished the program you left and went back because I’m thinking about doing the summer program.. how we’re you able to do the fall program if you had college going on at that time??

    • @mackenzhughes

      Those are great questions! It honestly just worked out perfectly for me - I applied when I was a senior in college but when I did the fall program I had already graduated. So I didn't have to miss any school. But if I was a sophomore or a junior when I did the fall program, I would either have to see if I could get credit at my college through the courses Disney offers, take online courses through my college or just pause my education. Most people are still taking classes while they do the DCP, it was rare for me to do what I did.

      You can say if you prefer to do the Fall vs. Fall Advantage and Spring vs. Spring Advantage. Basically the "Advantage" ones are longer by a few months and I believe both "Advantage" programs go into the summer. I think the Spring program starts in January and goes till about May and the Spring Advantage goes into the summer (maybe until about August?). And the Fall Advantage starts in May and goes until December whereas the Fall one starts in September and goes until December.
      Off the top of my head, those are the months I remember but I could be off. I do know the Advantage programs are longer by a few months and both of the Advantage programs include working in the summer.

    Hey there!:) I was just wondering, you talk about being a character attendant as well as a performer, did you do both at the same time through the college program? Did Disney just choose to give you two jobs instead of one job?

    • @mackenzhughes
      @mackenzhughes  7 років тому

      That's a good question! I was an attendant during the program and then when my program was about to end I auditioned and was hired as a performer. So being employed as a performer and as an attendant were separate. However when I was a performer (when I was hired as a full-time employee) there were a few shifts where I got to be an attendant. But it's pretty rare for cast members to be trained both as a character attendant and as a performer. I just got lucky!

    I was wondering if you can apply if you don't live in America? I live in England and when I'm older I would love to do the Disney collage program but could I apply if I'm from England?

      +Disney Nerd I'm not totally sure! I know there were international students, but I believe they were a part of a different program!

    Wait, isn't Disneyland the original park? Or were you talking about the parks' programs and which one was developed first? (Sorry to bother you, I'm just not sure😅)

    • @mackenzhughes
      @mackenzhughes  7 років тому +2

      Gibby The Lion haha YES, Disneyland is definitely the original park!! The program started at Disney World and that's what I was struggling to remember. I would be a horrible cast member if I thought Disney World came first for so many reasons 😂

    Do you have to go to your previous college longer ? And do you pick the park ?

    • @mackenzhughes
      @mackenzhughes  7 років тому

      I graduated before I did my program (I applied while I was still in college though) so I didn't have to go back. But most people go back after their program (similarly to a study abroad program). I hope that answers your question! And unfortunately you don't get to pick the park, or the role. Like if you're attractions you don't get to pick the park and you don't get to pick the ride.

    Do you think it would be a better idea to apply early in your college career or later (junior, senior year)? I start college in the fall and I really want to do the program

    • @mackenzhughes
      @mackenzhughes  7 років тому

      Honestly I think it just depends on you. I felt more comfortable applying later because I had college experiences I didn't want to miss out on so that's why I applied later. I would say the majority of the people in the program are younger (like freshmen, sophomores, juniors), and you could probably get credit for the program more easily if you're just starting your college career. You can't apply until you've been at school for at least a semester, so I would see how your first semester goes and decide after that!

    • @mackenzhughes

      Unfortunately no, I believe you have to be attending a college/university to apply for either the DCP or ICE.

    How/ Where do you find out which workshops and classes the DCP offers?

    • @mackenzhughes
      @mackenzhughes  7 років тому +1

      +Rachel Schermann I think they list them when you're applying, or once you've applied you get an email letting you know you can sign up for classes. They have a special website just for college program students where they can access all that info!

      I have no idea! I didn't work in Human Resources for the program so I have no understanding in how they pick people. I can only recommend what I think might help based on my experience applying for the program 😊

    I just got accepted to DCP for Merchandising (which is my major in school). I'm super nervous because I have a serious boyfriend and it's about 1,000 miles away from him. Any advice on long distance with Disney? I'm hesitant to accept, not because I think we will break up, I'm just scared I won't have as much fun if I'm missing him the whole time. HELP.

    • @mackenzhughes
      @mackenzhughes  7 років тому

      Oh my gosh Gracie that's so wonderful!! Congrats!! And I can completely relate! You should watch my "My Disney Story" video if you haven't already, I talk a little bit about doing long-distance in that video! Best advice is to plan in advance times when you can see each other. Also the best thing about the DCP is you know there's an end date. It's only for a few months and then it's done. On the days where I would miss my family and my boyfriend (who were 3,000 miles away) I would just remind myself of that.
      Also it really is what you make of it! You could get there and miss him the whole time. Or you can trust your relationship, know that it will still be there when you get back and take an advantage of an AMAZING opportunity you won't get again, and most people would love to have. Granted, there were days where I REALLY missed my boyfriend and it was HARD. But I really pushed myself to make the best of it knowing that it wasn't going to last forever. And I feel like that really made me appreciate my program even more!

      kenziemacbrown wow thank you so much! I'm about to watch that video right now. That was super helpful though, knowing someone else has been in the same place! Thank ya thank ya ❤️ I'm pretty sure I'm going to go through with it at this point!
