  • I wanted to pull a Flynn Rider and start off this intro with something super dramatic like "this is the story of how my Disney dreams died", but it just didn't fit! But this IS the story about how my love for Disney started when I was 2, how life experiences shaped me into who I am today, and ultimately why I left the company. So if you are interested in that story, just keep watching!

    I think it's so cool how you openly talked about your faith with the Lord within this video and I'm so glad you followed your dreams. Even though I'm 14 this video made me want to go out and follows my dreams 💖✨

      Thank you!! I feel like it's definitely something I'm intimidated to do (and it just doesn't fit in most of my videos), but it is such a big part of my life and it would feel weird leaving it out!

      kenziemacbrown you should never be intimated to talk about your faith! I believe that it makes God simile because you’re sharing his love and grace with others. ♥️

    It's so encouraging to hear you share about your faith! My dad passed away 3 years ago from cancer and just 7 months later I received a call from my mom that my brother had been murdered. We went from a happy Disney family of 5 to just my mom, sister, and me in just a matter of months. It was the most tragic year of my life and it continues to hurt, but God has been my lifeline through it all! Just like you, I've never really been able to relate to people my age and after that year I definitely wasn't able to, but God has a way of bringing the right people into your life to lift your spirit and speak life back into you! I've been praying for your channel and I believe it will be a source of joy for so many - you're such a wonderful example to everyone who watches!

    • @mackenzhughes

      First of all, thank you SO much for praying for my channel! That makes me feel so much more loved than you'll ever know! I can't even begin to fathom what that must have been like for you and your family! I have a coworker whose husband died suddenly last year and then her son also died suddenly a few months later. She was telling me today that she's going to take some time to heal her broken heart, but I told her that I really don't think it'll ever fully heal. I feel like you can never get back to who you were before, and that part of you dies when something like that happens. It's so hard to relate to people our age, because a lot of the time the way they react to situations or the decisions they make are based off of immature thinking. And it's hard to take that seriously when you've been forced to grow up. Although I would never wish what happened to me or you on anyone, I'm so thankful to have such a big reason to be excited about going to heaven! And on the days where I miss him SO badly, I think about how truthfully I know he doesn't miss this life because of how amazing his life became the minute he was fulfilled in Jesus' love!

    I just want to say I love your video so much. I am a 15-year-old girl and I've always loved Disney and wanted to work at Disney and I am a Disney princess at heart. I have horrible health issues (migraines and more) which causes me to be out of school for a long period of time and I'm currently doing online school because of it. I would love to work at Disney but I know it's not realistic for me and my health but I live through my dream with your videos. 💓

      I'm so sorry to hear that! I was in a very different spot in my life at 15, and I genuinely thought it would be impossible for me to get to work for Disney. But you never know what the future holds! I'll be praying for you and your health girl! I can't imagine how hard that must be!

    There's no doubt but in my mind that your uncle played a role in making your Disney dream come true! Of course your talent alone also got you where you were but the fact everything turned out so perfectly, with your character, your living situation and the friends you made. He helped out up in heaven in some way

    • @mackenzhughes
      @mackenzhughes  7 років тому +1

      You know I think so too! It worked out so perfectly, I really feel like he was pulling some strings up there! I mean there are so many reasons why it SHOULDN'T have worked that it's truly a miracle the way it all fell perfectly into place. While I got to live my dream my brother got to live his and work as a game-day assistant for his favorite football team! Although obviously we couldn't get our opportunities without putting forth our own effort, I definitely feel like we have a few angels up there rooting for us :)

    I feel like I'm following in your footsteps in a lot of ways... I lost an uncle-figure in January to a heart attack and trying to pick myself back up and keep going to finish off my last year of school has been hard, but getting this opportunity to go do the Disney College Program was kinda of a last minute decision for post-graduation and I got accepted into Merch. I've been looking into auditioning since high school and I'm finally going to be able to go to Chicago and try out. Praying is what got me through to here and I'm thankful to see that other people retain their peppiness and happiness at Disney even after something tragic and life changing. You are an inspiration to me to believe in myself during all of this!

    I absolutely adore you! You have such a lovely personality that is so infectious, I usually cannot watch long sitdown UA-cam videos, but with yours I was glued to the screen the entire time! I am a freshman in college and applied for the DCP, but didn't even get a web-based interview. It was absolutely heartbreaking, but I still have 7 more chances to apply, and your videos help keep me excited for the future ahead! Sending love 💖

      kenziemacbrown oh my god Kenzie. I'm so sorry for your loss, but holy Molly. The EXACT same thing happened to my grandfather. He was murdered in his home by a homeless kid he was helping out... it was when I was 5 though.
      Side note, I'm going to Disney World for my 21st birthday in January, and I was wondering what is a question I should ask Ariel? I want to have the most amazing experience ever, and I keep thinking about what I want to say, but I don't know!

You are so beautiful and you inspire me to follow God and my dreams!

    Since I finally have an account here lol I can share this with you finally (cause it‘s for sure pretty much the tenth time watching this video) that in regards to our Disney Stories we have so much in common!! I also grew up in California (then moved back to Switzerland where my family’s from) with annual passes and I also got my love for Disney from my Mom.. and you totally just put my thoughts into words on what I reply when people say Disney movies are just for kids! My fave characters / Princesses as a little girl were and still are to this day Belle, Ariel and Jasmine and also now Rapunzel and Anna. Also my Dad runs regularly too and recently when I came home there was the ambulance and there were doctors all over the place because over night my Dad had had serious issues... like he felt so sick and dizzy he couldn’t move and when I saw him laying there... like not even being able to open his eyes... it was sooo scary!! they then found out he had a hole in his heart since birth which had to be fixed and I also lost my uncle.. when I was sixteen he committed suicide...we were really close and that totally rocked my world.. so I really relate to what you said on how it‘s harder to relate to people your age a lot and wanting to love people. Also I’m currently at a place where I don’t think it’ll happen for me anymore... being a performer. But through yours and other videos I feel like I get at least to share in the experience somewhat. And honestly the people loving... I feel like you continue to do that with this channel not just as a Disney Character!! Just so much love for you!♥️

    I absolutely love how inspiring your videos are. You truly have that Disney magic! I watch all different kinds of Disney videos, so when yours was suggested to me I could not believe my eyes. My last trip to Disney world with my family we saw you when you were spending time with Ariel. That experience was by far the best character meeting I have had so far. I will be starting college soon, and your story has given me so much hope for my future. Thank you for always putting a smile on my face. 💖

      kenziemacbrown I remembered you mentioned that you also were a character attendant at times! Would you be able to do a routine video about that? Since it would mostly just be how you managed your time instead of breaking character integrity? Of course you were busy hanging out with Ariel a lot, but it would be nice to hear how you managed living in the housing provided and what you did on days off! :)

    Thanks so much for sharing your story, Kenzie. You’re such an inspiration to me, and it proves that there’s no one specific way to make your dreams come true, and life is not always kind, even to those who are kindest in life. You bring so much hope with every experience you share and how determined you are, it just makes my heart smile for you! TLM also has a huge place in my life and my own story, and it’s amazing seeing how it manifests in yours! If only I would’ve gotten to meet your friend Ariel, from these clips I am just overjoyed for you and so thrilled to see her completely come to life, as I’m such a big time fan of Ariel (especially how her story has impacted my life). I feel like my story is just reaching that mid stage, lots has happened so far and so much has changed trajectory, and the future is a great unknown to me just ripe with potential. Life’s been, in a word, CRAZY, ranging from some absolutely amazing things that if I were writing up my own life I wouldn’t have been able to predict they would happen, and a lot of difficulty where for every high point there are several low points to go with it, and overall a lot of personal growth and development and changes in who I am (for better or worse). Maybe someday I’ll dive in and be brave enough to write more or even make a video sharing my story, it’s so easy for me to ramble on and on and on in these comments, as you know. Speaking of which, I so appreciate it whenever you read whatever incessantly long block of text I’ve written here and reply back in the sweetest fashion bc you really don’t have to do that and yet you do anyway gahhhh

    I know I just found this in 2020 so I am late but you have NO idea how helpful and truly encouraging this was for me in my season of life I am in. ESPECIALLY the faith part and the introvert / homebody part. I can totally relate. There are times where I know other "opportunity" that I seek is elsewhere but in turn it's always been super hard for me to do things alone. Faith based wise it was encouraging how God orchestrated your friend going as well because I always pray the same. God reminded me that even when I went to college, that one of my friends who I had done 4 years of theater arts with, who also lived on my street was also going to the same University and was in my same dorm! You have no idea how much I needed that "Home" connection the first couple of days I was there! I'm just praying God orchestrates that again in the next step in my life He has for me.

      Well I'm glad this video is still helping someone in 2020! I definitely wish I was still at that spot with my faith. I feel like living in Florida really forced me to trust God, but I also felt like I was fully living into who He made me to be! I definitely feel more complacent in Seattle just because it's so comfortable. So hopefully in 2020 we can both lean into His promises for us together! ☺️

    Thank you so much for sharing your Disney story! It's inspiring to hear how you took the decision to do the program so seriously and looked at it as a job, not just a chance to hang out at Disney World. I also appreciate you including the prayer that went into the decision, too. It's so cool how you were able to follow your dreams and still leave on a happy note to pursue other life opportunities.
    I also participated in a Disney program (professional internship) and went through the same struggle trying to decide if the Disney College Program was right for me when I was in college. I ended up working for two months over the summer so I could continue my studies during the school year. It's nice to know I'm not alone in that decision. Wishing you all the best with what you're doing now in Washington state!

    I couldn't relate more to your beginning story! I live in Pennsylvania and have always wanted to apply! Everyone especially little kids tell me I resemble Elsa which is crazy because of how much I wanted to look like/be a Disney princess when I was little! The only issue I'm having is fitting it into my schedule because I'm a full time student in Pittsburgh and in a long term relationship! Not to mention about 1000 miles away from Orlando! But its super cool to hear of someone who got to do it in a similar situation!

    Hey McKenzie! I just wanted to tell you that I really appreciate you telling the story of your uncle I know that is probably really hard for you. I understand what it's like to have something rock your world, my dad drowned when I was little and it's really difficult to have something like that happen. I'm so sorry you went through it, but it's wonderful how life turns itself around and eventually you see the light at the end of the tunnel! I've often thought of trying for the Disney program, but like you said as well, it's so hard to just drop everything and change your entire schedule. I just don't think I could do that at this time in my life. Anyway you're so sweet in your videos and I just wanted to share that with you!! ❤️ can't wait to see your fall makeup tutorials💋😘

    • @mackenzhughes
      @mackenzhughes  7 років тому +1

      I'm so sorry to hear that! It's so hard to understand why things work out the way they do. Watching a love one die of old age is so hard, but it's something completely different when you feel like their life has been robbed from them. At the same time it really does make you realize how fragile life is and appreciate the people in your life that much more! I completely understand not being able to make the college program work into your busy schedule! It's hard wanting to do something so bad but realizing as an adult you have to make decisions and you can't always do everything. I hope that maybe you'll be able to do it in the future!

    hi mckenzie! just wanted to say that this video really hit home for me. i’ve felt so alone the past couple of months since i’ve started college (i’m currently a second semester freshman) because i’ve had so much doubt in myself about what i’m meant to be and what i’m meant to do and although nothing tragic has happened to me i still feel like i’ve had such a distant outlook on life since i’ve started school and that’s never really been who i am, which has been pretty scary for me. anyways, i’ve always felt so connected with disney for a number of reasons, but i literally just found out about all these auditions and opportunities set up for people like me (i’ve always thought performers at disney world were surely people who were adept at everything theatre-y, not just regular people with genuine positivity) and im feeling inspired :) i keep watching these videos about working for disney and the dcp and i kept asking myself how did these people make the decision to leave home like that so young and make it work but your video assumed me im not the only one who’s felt lost in trying to fit it into my life! i’ve also just felt i’m not the type of person cut out for it because like you im more introverted (especially of late) but i think i’d seriously regret it if i didn’t give myself the chance to try, so i’ve decided i’m making room in my life to go for it and try it and see where it leads me! i mean if you’re gonna be a disney princess you have to play the part right? i don’t think they would shy away from something that was scary and out of their comfort zone :) anyways sorry for the massive message, i just really can’t explain to you how much your video has helped me spiritually

      You are SO sweet Sarah, and you are definitely not alone! I think it is perfectly normal for people our age to feel overwhelmed and doubt what we're supposed to do. When we're in school for K-12 our goal is to be a student or just make it through the year. But once we get to college we start to think about life after school (which isn't predetermined for us) and the possibilities are overwhelming. I do have to say I grew up a LOT in college and you still have years left to figure that out. I would say to give yourself some grace, realize you're not alone in that, and most everything happens in small, achievable steps! Like the thought of moving to Florida was SO overwhelming. But when I was looking at the big picture idea of moving to Florida I didn't think about all of the small, achievable steps along the way. Like filling out an online application for the college program, having my phone interview, going to an audition, booking a plane flight, going through DCP orientation, going through my role orientation, etc. When you break a big idea down into smaller parts it can be less overwhelming to think about! AND you still have plenty of time left in school to decide if you want to do the DCP or not!

    Weird coincidence that I noticed for some reason. When you talked about the three close friends you made during your training, you showed a picture of you four with Ariel. I quickly thought that the girl hanging out with Ariel (character integrity :) ) looked familiar, and so I checked, and I met that girl when she was hanging out with Ariel once too! I don't know, it's obviously not a big deal, but I just thought that was cool and I wanted to share. I love your videos and I hope to be a character attendant in the college program when I go to college in two years! :)

    You spoke truth! I am 30 and lost my mom a month before I graduated high school and lost my grams 4 years ago. I learned very quickly that life is not gueranted to any one. I am junior in college and I really want to apply to the Disney College Program. I am really nervous about applying. My best friend did the program and she has really encourage me to go.She thinks I would do a good job. I would love to do photo pass. Do you have any advice?

    • @mackenzhughes
      @mackenzhughes  6 років тому

      I'm so sorry to hear that Janet! Despite death being a normal thing (I mean we're all going to die at some point) it's hard for younger people to comprehend if they haven't had to deal with it much.
      I think you should totally apply! The worst thing that happens is you don't get it, but I think you'd always wonder "what if" if you don't apply. And if you get it and you get there and don't like you can always leave the program early. It happens all the time!
      If you wanted the photopass option (and you get a phone interview) I would just show how your work and school experience has prepared you for that! I made a video on tips for the phone interview (ua-cam.com/video/-5r81iIc3fk/v-deo.html) and a blog post on the application process overall (kenziemacbrown.com/2018/01/apply-for-the-dcp/) if you haven't had a chance to check those out yet. I think that will give you a bit more clarity on what the process is like :)
      I wish you luck and I hope you apply!

    I so glad you made this video, I am currently a senior in college going through the same struggle of determining whether or not the college program is something for me, because it would be a dream come true, or if i'm better off trying to find a job in my field right out of college. what to do, follow my dreams or my degree?

    • @YouShotMyRobot
      @YouShotMyRobot 7 років тому

      Hannah Junius of course the choice is up to you but you'll never regret following your dreams :) whatever you dream may be at the time. Also Disney always looks good on a resume. And in the college program they have awesome classes to work on your resume and how to market yourself (at least they did when I did the DCP). I may be a little biased ;) but you know in your heart the right choice for you. Best wishes!

    • @mackenzhughes
      @mackenzhughes  7 років тому +1

      I was able to apply and be a part of the college program without sacrificing my education, so it's definitely possible to do both! Ultimately though, you're so close to getting your degree that I would just finish your time there. At the end of the day, yes Disney looks great on a resume, but having a degree is huge. If there's a way you can do both you should! But if not, you could always audition after you graduate too!

      It's such an amazing college!! I don't think so. I know there's the "fall advantage" which goes from May to December and it adds a few months onto the fall college program. And I think there might be one for the spring that goes from January to August. But unfortunately I don't think there's one just for the summer months :(
