I spend a lot of time, probably too much, going through gear/synth/pedal demos on UA-cam and this one was truly one of the best I’ve seen in quite some time. This is how it’s done, folks. Inspiring, unique, entertaining and creative.
I was really interested in the Buddha Machine but apparently it’s not available in the US AppStore. moods caper is lovely and I’m excited to try out spacecraft. GarageBand is kinda mind blowingly massive with all it can do. I know someone that bought an iPad Pro just for GarageBand.
I liked the moodscaper and cycle apps! Downloaded them as well as the Hypnotised. Already been playing with them and hooked. Many thanks! The synth one app is mind blowing as well, can’t believe how much it can do. Its even better from an iPad
Stuck in social isolation during the COVID-19 outbreak, this is just what I needed. So glad I found it. Thanks for doing this. It's still helping people over a year later to make cool music.
I just had my eureka moment through this video. I've always wanted to create music but was really lost - I don't know where to start. Thank you for enlightening and inspiring me, Stefan.
Mind blown! I never imagined it would be this easy. I've just been running Hypnotise through a Walrus Audio Arp-87, OBNE Minim and an Alexander SkyFi. I was able to create the kind of ambient soundscapes I've been dreaming of doing for so long. Thank you Stefan, you are a legend, sir!
I'm deeply honored. Thank you! I had some problems with my wrist during that period, so had to take a break from guitar. So I'm happy this kind of content is appreciated as well :)
Stefan, you introduced me to the world of ambient/generative apps with your pedal demos. Thank you is all I can say. I’m going to go download cycle now. Cheers!
That’s amazing, man. I’m honored to have introduced you to new exciting musical avenues. Remember to search for “cycle synthesizer” in the App Store. That will greatly minimize the amount of scrolling you have to do to find it 😊
I’m so incredibly happy to read this comment. 1) I’m stoked you enjoyed the video. 2) I’m even more stoked to hear that this can act as an early introduction to music creation for kids. That’s an absolutely brilliant idea ❤️🙌
Beautiful work Stefan, I recently picked up an old iPad, so I am going to investigate some of these. One thing I've done for a while is to sit my phone on top of the guitar strings, with the phone speaker right over the pickup. Whatever you play through the phone gets an instant lo-fi treatment from being picked up by the pickups. Start messing with effects and "Saturn" by Holst starts sounding like something from Aphex Twin :-)
Happy you enjoyed the vid, man! Yeah, the phone over pickups is a classic. I also did that way back in the old Nokia 3210 days just to create weird lo-fi signal interference and lo-fi synthy bleep bloop sounds 😊
I'm a little idling at home and watching all your videos, and - every - time I finish watching one I go make sure I subscribed to your channel. Which I did months ago, of course :D
Ok Stefan, this is another outstanding video. I bought an iPad and I'm starting to look into apps, so your timing is perfect. I'm going to check these out all of these. I'm so excited about the Brian Eno apps.. I agree with you on Garage Band great app It's very powerful...Thanks
Thank YOU for being awesome! Your videos are truly some of the most beautiful and inspiring, containing both sonic and creative bliss. Cheers to you, good sir! Keep fighting the good fight.
You're too kind, man. Thank you so much! I'm just so happy to hear that you find both moments of zen and inspiration in my videos. Makes it all worth it ❤
Cool sounds Stefan !!!, i recently came with the same situation and i ended up doing this. I connected my love for literature and music recording some words from Cortazar, my favourite argentinian author, through my 856 for Zellersasn, these sound were later transformed with a red panda and my grazer. On top of that, soundscapes with my dd20 from infinite jets ... I felt above the ground for a while. I will try all these apps you show here, very cool all of them !!!
Dude, that was totally awesome. As a long time Eno fan, 1974 I bought Here Come the Warm Jets thinking ti was Gilmour playing guitar when it was actually Fripp, after listening to Baby's On Fire on WGTB radio from Georgetown University in DC. Anyway, thanks tons. I did not know about Eno's apps. Nice. I also heard that the Microsoft doodle noise when you open up is Eno. Is that true? Sounds like it. Thank you for all your great videos because I like you play this music along with tons of other things but this form is probably my favorite.
I would suggest Eventide’s Mixing Link. Honestly, I don’t know why it doesn’t get more mentions on pedal sites. Among the many things it can do when on your board, you can hook it up to your iPhone and use effects in iOS on your guitar signal, which you can’t do going straight into a pedal.
Thank you so much for doing this video. You just unlocked a whole new world for me. Funny that I never even considered using my phone. Looks like I'm never going outside again. Ha Ha. You're channel is fantastic.
Great Video Stefan! Thanks for these extra ideas and informational videos to get even more out of ours pedal's. I feel totally the same towards the way I approach guitar and pedal's. It doesn't necessarily have to be right way, it's all about the satisfaction we get out of being creative and simply experimenting with the endless possibilities that comes from within. On another note, hope all is going better with the pain you were having with your hand. Keep up the great work!

I don’t know, but it’s definitely a path that will take you to new places, be it forwards, backwards or sideways. The journey and the process is the important thing 😊
I’ve been doing this a lot lately using the Bloom app (inspo from one of your earlier vids) as well as just running the PO-33 through pedals. It’s been pretty wonderful. Thanks for the inspiration. Also begun to bring it full circle layering acoustic instruments in. I’d be glad to share some tunage with you when theyre available. :)
Yup! It’s really great. Only recently discovered it, so haven’t had that much time with it. Hence I stuck to the apps I knew well. But it seems like it has a massive sonic potential 👌
Thank you so much for this video I have been searching for something like this for so long really appreciate it love the sound you're creating. Do you have a video you can point me to on how to connect multiple pedals to my iPhone or iPad mini I'm assuming I would need some sort of power source to connect multiple pedals? Just looking to keep it simple right on my desk with an iPad mini or iPhone a pedal or two in stereo sound I have speakers and headphones already thank you👍🎶💯
Borderlands took over my life for about a year...Samplr’s weirder cousin, equally brilliant. Spacecraft is a breath of fresh air, and amazing that he practically gave it away. Synth One is phenomenal...
Hi Stefan, this video is still relevant although a couple of the apps you mention no longer seem to be available. Thank-you for making that video, it was inspiring. I have a question: what is the name of the app you use at the very beginning, while you explain the cables? Thanks, Simon
Awesome work Stefan! Are you outputting directly to interface from pedals? Can this work into amps and then mic? What do you suggest for best quality? Keep up the great work. Love your channel.
In this video I'm recording directly into an interface. But sure, you can use it through a mic'd up guitar amp if you want. I've done that before as well. You'll probably lose some frequencies that way, since guitar amps are mid focused, but it will still sound nice. Just make sure that your phone is turned all the way down, and then slowly bring up the volume while playing the app, so you don't accidentally blow a speaker.
OHH!!! That came out of nowhere!!! BUDDHA MACHINE!!! Didn't expect anyone talking about buddhamachine! Love it! Used to walk in Finnish forests with buddhamachine! Magical!
Hey Stefan! I really enjoyed the video (like all the others). Is your signal going from the pedals straight into your interface? Or are you sending it through your amp first? Thanks!
Very cool. I have just a Marshall JTM 30 amp so would the stereo effects be any more noticible. Sorry moron question. What do you think of the Fender Reflecting Pool as a stand alone pedal for this?
Aaaah, yeah. I’ve actually considered downloading that a couple of times, but always ended up with something else. I’ll give a go soon, on the back of your recommendation 😊🙏

What happens if you plug guitar into L-input and phone into R-input of a stereo pedal? Should be interesting, since the wet-signal is usually a blend of both inputs (while the dry remains seperate L/R), so could be cool for droney groundlayers!
@@thepedalzone I use my Klein Bottle like this too: I run my banjo/guitar/drums through FX chains 1 and/or 2, and mix in some vocal drones from the stereo pedals in the bypassed FX chain 3 (just turn on trails and your Klein Bottle is a mixer!)
I have read that Phones Out is an amplified signal and can damage amplified stage monitors (as these monitors are expcting low voltage signals to amplify). You are connecting with the guitar amp so this is ok? I need to connect Behringer UV1 phones out to a Behringer EQ700 and then to a Makie Thump12, can you tell me if this is harmful? Or it is a matter of adjusting the volumes to not damage the monitor? thank you.
I love ❤️ what u are doing !!!! I sing and chant over soundscapes . I’d love to collaborate with you to create something with you if you are interested. Keep up your stellar vision !! Todd
Could it possibly be that I did not need to buy a keyboard synth and this stuff could have tripped my inspiration trigger? Ahh! I’m gonna have fun either way!
Naaaaah, it's all part of the journey, man. One doesn't exclude the other, but they can augment each other. 😊 Happy you found the video inspiring. I'm super honored to hear you subscribed after this video ❤
What about Bluetooth 1 1/4 jacks??? Like… koala sampler from iPad to the jack thru the 1 1/4 receiver into pedals to audio interface then daw… what you know about that?
Love the video! But I have a question, wouldn't it damage the pedals considering the output of smartphones is line level? I read others use reamp box for this. Just curious.
I've never had any issues with it. Pretty sure you can't damage the pedals. What can happen though if you use loud line level instruments with pedals that aren't designed for that, is that you will hit a headroom wall in the pedal, and the pedal can begin to clip. Won't hurt the pedal though, will just sound bad. I haven't experienced that yet, and since you can regulate the output on the phone via the volume controls, then you can easily reduce the input to the pedals.
Hi there, thanks for the vid. Do you know how to take a midi out from an IOS app (like fugue machine for example) to midi in on a pedal or synth? Thanks.
Stefan, will pianoscaper and moodscaper on ios on the iphone work with the transmisser pedal? I want to use this setup you've shown to record music using the amps and the reverb pedal.
I was wondering... now that you've awoken my curiosity, how can I record what I create using this fun method? Sure I can reproduce it with my amp but, what would you advice me to use in order to keep record of the created tracks? Software and/or hardware wise... Thanks!
I would recommend going direct when using your phone as an instrument. These apps produce a way wider frequency response than what a guitar amplifier is designed to produce. Sure, you can run it through your guitar amp, but it will filter the core sound. Run it into your recording interface, and make the recordings in your favorite DAW on your computer.
I spend a lot of time, probably too much, going through gear/synth/pedal demos on UA-cam and this one was truly one of the best I’ve seen in quite some time. This is how it’s done, folks. Inspiring, unique, entertaining and creative.

I'm super honored to hear you subscribed after this video ❤
what is a good drum machine app?
thanks, it all sounds beautiful
Check out FunkBox, which samples a lot of old-school drum machines.
Can I do this with TC-Helicon Voice Tone (1 and will I be able to use it while recording vocals
& I just got Cycle ...I want to make a song with you!!
Cycle is a lot of fun 😊💫
What about Bluetooth 1 1/4 jacks??? Like… koala sampler from iPad to the jack thru the 1 1/4 receiver into pedals to audio interface then daw… what you know about that?
the polymoon still amazes me how the hell did they come up with this thing? Must have taken forever to design it
Same here. My mind just explodes every time I plug into that thing. 100% one of my absolute favorite pedals of all time ❤️
When I’m recording the IPad and pedals through my audio interface the sound is only coming out of my right speaker. Any ideas as to why?
freakin' good
Thank you so freakin' much! ❤
Try the SAMPLR app its nice
very cool!! Check also the MORPHWIZ app. (Developed by Jordan Ruddess of Dream Theater) and NAVE from Waldorf. Great tools! :D
Happy you enjoyed the vid, bud! I'll make sure to check out those apps. Thanks for the recommendations 👍
@@thepedalzone Alright. Thanks for the explanation. Makes sense to me now. Looking forward to watch your next video!
Hi there, thanks for the vid. Do you know how to take a midi out from an IOS app (like fugue machine for example) to midi in on a pedal or synth? Thanks.
Think you need an iOS Midi Interface. Google it. You’ll find a bunch of solutions 👍 Happy you enjoyed the vid.
Love this .....I want the video for android :(
Happy you enjoyed it. A video on Android apps will land at some point 👍
Did that happen yet? :)
Stefan, will pianoscaper and moodscaper on ios on the iphone work with the transmisser pedal? I want to use this setup you've shown to record music using the amps and the reverb pedal.
They will work with any pedal. Transmisser is fun with any source you feed it. Enjoy 👍
What was the name of the Buddha Box App? You mentioned it in the beginning of the video.
FM3 Buddha Machine
ThePedalZone COOL!!!!!!!!
