      @@lisabela860 you could also use any type of stock cubes or broth but if u literally have neither u can make with just water too but the broth with anchovies and seaweed gives good umami

    Tried this today! Using exactly same ingredients & measurements except kelp > roasted nori seaweed, 1 tbsp hot pepper flakes > 1 tsp chilli powder & adding 1 tsp msg. Turns out reallyyyy good & suits my taste. Even my family members love it. Thank you for this recipe! (❤ from Malaysia)

    1. 물4컵 멸치7개 다시마 (육수만들기) -15분
    2. 양념: 고추장 1컵 고춧가루 한숟갈 설탕 1숟갈
    3. 대파3개 썰기 삶은 계란 껍질까기
    4. 육수에 양념 떡 대파 넣고 끓을 때 어묵 계란 넣기
    5. 완성!!

      I agree with you!! After I tried this recipe, all the tteokbokki that i ate in other restaurant disappoints me😭 this shows how delicious Maangchi's recipe is! On top of that, I'm such a lazy person...I'm lazy to cook but I always crave for tteokbokki and this is so frustrating😭😭😭

    This recipe is absolutely THE BEST. My partner and I feel in loveee with a Korean fried chicken place here in LA and they make our most favorite tteokbokki. We've tried many other places to see if it compares and it never did. I tried your recipe and it is pretty much identical to our favorite!!! I can FINALLY make my absolute favorite dish at home 💖💖💖 It's 100% the anchovy broth that makes the dish perfect! THANKYOU MAANGCHI!

      ​@@btb554 no seaweed is different from kelp. It won't help with broth.. Use vegetable stock instead

    I made this for the second time (this time with gimmari as well). My first time wasn't the best but this time it's great - I think it's because I used fresh rice cakes from a Korean bakery instead of frozen ones. It's amazingly delicious! Now I understand why everyone loves tteokbokki. Thank you Maangchi 😊

    I made this today! I had never had rice cake before...oh my gosh it's so delicious! I used the coin-shaped rice cake and some yellow potatoes, chopped small. My seasoning paste was tamari, gochujang, gochugaru, sesame oil, crushed garlic and ginger, black pepper, and green onion. It was incredible! I'm a vegetarian so I'm always looking for new stuff to make.

    Hello Maangchi, don't mean to disturb, but for beginners learning Korean cooking/cuisine, sometimes we can only buy the ingredients Online. Usually they will sell Gochugaru in Flakes or even Powder form. IF we are a beginner and can buy only 1, which one do you recommend we buy the Flakes or the Powdered Gochugaru for Korean cooking?

    Maangchi! I made this today, I used higashimaru ramen stock powder with some chicken stock powder, I used thinly sliced pork, with diced king oyster mushrooms, and garlic chives and it turned out fantastic! I am addicted and better yet, my husband ate all of it, including the mushrooms and he usually doesn't like them!

    I used this recipe but couldn't find any dried anchovis in my area besides the bucket they sell at the petstore. I used some plain maggi to season the broth and it came out tasting amazing.       @@iamayesha366 go to your local asian store and get tteokbokki sauce, it's like a squirt bottle. You can boil rice cakes separately in water, remove it, than put it on a plate and squirt the sauce on top of it, and eat it like this. It will not turn out like the stew, you will have to eat it like a snack, like fries and ketchup haha! ~

    I love that she always tries to include alternatives for her vegetarian audiences! She said for this recipe we can use vegetable broth instead of anchovies, but I hope I am not being too adventurous if I try dried shiitake mushroom. I will have to update!

    Thank you for this recipe Maangchi!💕 I'm saving some for dinner. It's sad my husband can't eat it with me coz he can't handle spicy food, but your measurement is just the right spicyness for me! I added ramyeon noodles and lobster balls, I was in heaven while eating!🤤 This is exactly the taste I crave for when I see actors in kdrama eating teokbokki!💕 Now, i need a sweet dessert! 🤤

    we finally made this today after years of watching maangchi's recipe of tteokbokki but we didn't have kelp and anchovy so we used dried shiitake mushrooms and vegetable scraps and it tasted delicious. Thank you for inspiring me maangchi ❤️

    When I first got interested in cooking Korean, there was nothing available for an American - no cookbooks in English, nothing.     I just made this and it turned out really well! Super easy too! I have a low tolerance for spice tho so it definitely packed a punch! Then again, I also used crushed red pepper because I didn’t have hot pepper flakes 🥵🥵

    I have always wondered how to use dried anchovies, when I saw them in Asian markets. I tried your stock making method and loved it! (P.S. I like it better than Japanese fashion of making stock.)

    Ddeokbokki is a street food where you can just buy some for like dollar or two. It's more of "Snack" for young generation... But damn it's so good. Probably one of my favorite Korean food.

    Just made this, it was so good!! My pepper flakes were very spicy though, even though I used less than a tablespoon it was still really spicy, so add to your taste :) I also used instant dashi powder to make the dashi stock because I couldn’t get the anchovies and kelp. Thank you for the recipe!!

      @@Maangchi omg I just remembered the first time I made this I followed a recipe to make homemade rice flour. I thought it was a recipe on your page but I can't find it. That process only took about a day and a half to make :P Just that first one though. Every time after I used packaged dumplings or purchased the rice flour. Thank you again!
