I know one of the persons from those houses that got paid for their home/land. Nobody was displaced at all!!!! The initial cost for this hotel was around 15 million USD but it ended up bumping to over 20 million due to compensation for homes and land bought. Everyone was paid rather well with no complaints
We also need to build more houses for the people who are displaced by this type of development. If not then the result will be inflation in the price of housing just like what is happening in North America.
HOPEFULLY government keeps housing individually through the housing ministry and land titles. i see no problem private investors in hotel and infrastructure development, just not housing, health care, and education, and if they do there must always be that strong viable government option.
Raph, Are there zoning laws in Guyana? Does citizens have say what comes to their neighborhood?Throwing up these massive structures in this willy nilly way is bound to have serious long term effects. I am a proponent of the development but such development must be well planned, structured and organized.
At least someone on this forum is thinking 🤔 because everyone else is all about how much money did they receive for the old homes. It’s not only the parking but the infrastructure such as waste water and fresh water supply, drains and the surrounding streets were clogged during construction, concrete jungle and no rain water drain off, majority of the worker were without safety harnesses and some PPE were missing. And for the so to be occupants of the higher floors hope and pray that there’s no blackouts if you are in the elevator and not to mention the maintenance of such a building.
I wonder what the room rates will be. The last time I checked, Georgetown was similar to Paris, London or Tokyo prices. Got to build a lot more to create healthy competition to get down to Dubia prices of 75 bucks a night.😢
You keep saying ‘DEMOLISHED, DEMOLISHED, DEMOLISHED’. You’re saying it as though those properties were taken away without compensation. I’m sure those owners were very well compensated for their properties. That’s development, comrade. You have to be careful with your language.
Where do these people live now? The issue is not whether they were compensated but by demolishing these homes there are fewer homes for people to live in which drives up the price of housing.
@@RaphaelNationare you saying these home owners are dumb by selling their house without considering where they going to live after selling their house? I am pretty sure that's the first thing a home owner would consider before selling their house is where they going to live .This is nothing but a political video which is unpatriotic and anti development. The chinese hardware/ hotel was build under the APNU government but you didn't concerned about residential house being purchase and demolished then but now is a big issue. I am 100% sure if this hotel was built on the mud flats on the seawall you were talking about you would have make comments like natural disaster within the sea, or they are avoiding the city and leave it underdeveloped to spite the mayor or maybe the location is isolated.
In my opinion, it does not matter how many properties were demolished. I bet you, each property owner was handsomely paid top dollar for their property.
Yes I’m sure they were compensated. Where do they live now? How many other people could not find a home because they took other homes off the market or paid more thereby driving up the cost of housing for everyone. It is the same problem in North America when landlords take rental property off the market and list it for AirBnB instead. This drives up the cost of housing.
GT,got a lotof dilapidated buildings that needs to go or renovated. People that own empty lots with over grown bushes should be fined if you can't take care of your property.
Wow lots of comments good job @raphel. But to those who say progress where is all that sewer going for Aiden sleep in and others? Why not use up all that land where the put the new road and zone it for hotels and entertainment and actuall build our first sewage treatment pland new power station seperate from the grid that currently exist. No vision?
He advocates a SELECTIVE free market! Nothing this government does or facilitates will meet his lofty (PNC) ideals. I'm sure President Ali is losing sleep over Rafael's constant criticism! 😂😂
I am sure the property owners were well paid for their homes before they were taken down to be replaced by a parking lot. As you know property in Georgetown is at premium high prices. Home owners smiling all the way to the bank!
The point is that they displaced a dozen families or 40-50 people. We must also build homes to accommodate the people who are displaced because depleting the housing supply can cause inflation in house prices for local residents of Guyana.
@@RaphaelNationas was stated in the previous comments the previous owners were well compensated, it's up to them to use that money wisely to really benefit
@@RaphaelNation I understand ur point Mr Raphael, however u would realise it's a choice n persons won't give up the opportunity for a good compensation
True. I know the home owners aren’t complaining. I bet they were paid a good amount. That’s how business works all over the world. The building looks great though❤️
You keep saying “demolished, demolished, demolished” as though someone or the hotel did something wrong. But I am, absolutely, sure that hotel had to purchase those houses or homes from their owners before demolishing them. Because I am not hearing any of the house owners complaining.
Think about what that implies. It means that 40-50 people were displaced. These people will now have to buy houses elsewhere. Since they sold their homes they can pay more for housing than the young people who are seeking housing. This will drive up the price of houses and deplete the supply of homes in the Realestate market. Thus we will have the same inflation in house prices as that which is happening in North America.
Pressure buss pipe. Do you know the politics behind the creation of this stupid hotel? Boy, hush! Another thing, what's it with you and all those displaced punctuation marks ?😅 All these years you are on Facebook and UA-cam and you have still not learn how to write. You are a helpless case.😂
Displaced? Has anyone or anybody come forward saying or claiming that they were displaced? Unless, you can come up with people making these claims, It is obvious to me that you have an agenda. Anyway in my own opinion, Georgetown and the surrounding area, is too congested. Too many cars, traffic and people. We do need to spread out.

So where do they live now? The point is that these residents homes have been removed from the market permanently.
Georgetown needs a complete makeover with those modern buildings. Nice job 👍
We also need to build more houses for the people who are displaced by this type of development. If not then the result will be inflation in the price of housing just like what is happening in North America.

About five years ago, i sold one of my properties to a hospital here in New York and they paid me more than five times the original cost.

How many houses were demolished to build the Sleep in hotel and casino on Church st. & Albert Streets?
At least 5.

Raphael maybe they should build them on the mudflats, as you suggested, & you can start an insurance company to insure them.

Hey Raph,
Is there parking on site?
Yes it seems that they are constructing a parking lot.
i wondered how much is per night maybe 500US AND OVER
