I currently live in New York, and I witnessed shabby work done by contractors. Especially road construction. Thanks for the update, Ralph.

People often wonder why foreign companies used to get most of the contracts, and this a prime example why. This particular company has been 'warned' so many times. Accountability is lacking, and Govt. can be likened to the schoolteacher who 'expresses disappointment ' to the satisfaction of the violated, but there is never any tangible consequence.

When the government gives the majority of work to qualified contractors, they are called racist by this fellows political party.

Guyana has the most shabby and subpar “new roads and highways” that I have EVER seen, Guyanese truly settle for anything and its so sad to see and then some say “Rome wasn’t built in a day” HA, it can be with the oil money, educating and certifying our contractors and engineers to a first world degree, hiring foreign experts to teach the skills, the purchase of first world road construction machinery, and transparency with cost on all areas, all which Guyana LACKS and where many Guyanese will turn a blind eye to it for the sake of voting along ethnic lines

Yes only the large hotels that are being built by Chinese construction companies meet international standards.

@@RaphaelNation Yes I’ve noticed that as well, it seems Badal made sure Chinese contractors built his high rise building despite higher cost for good reason. Additionally, the roadways built by Chinese infrastructure companies such as the east coast public road, that has been completed for 4 years now are of great quality (“beautification”/colored concreting being done now aside). Roads built by the Chinese companies have lasted the longest and will continue to in Guyana for a while. The Mandela to Eccles highway’s shoddy concrete surface is already deteriorating after 2 years of use!! As much as people want don’t want to admit it, Guyanese contractors and engineers that didn’t go abroad for better pay and lifestyle (the ones of lower standard) are mediocre in skill compared to first world civil engineers. Even the government knew this, imagine Guyanese contractors and engineers based here constructing the Demerara harbour bridge, the deadline would not be met even 2 years after the initial deadline and it would be another Stabroek market incident in the making!

Along the fence inside the cemetery, they should plant pine trees and keep them trimmed to the height of the fence. Many of the roadways are treeless, and climate change is ever present.😢😢

Hey Raf, it was refreshing when you mentioned that you didn’t vote for either parties. Stay apolitical and maintain a non-biased approach in your vlogs and commentary and you will increase your following and have less negative comments.
There is no perfect anything or anyone. Always think of how to phrase your input so that viewers can formulate their own opinion. Nothing should be mentioned or compared to the two main political parties. Keep politics out. Guyana is in a new phase in its rapid development and there will be many blunders, mistakes and shortcomings. This is where you guys can help with proper reporting.
If I may, state the facts like in this video of how long the works have been going on and slated for completion. However, good reporting would entail an interview with the owner/Avinash and the minister of works/ Edhill to shed light on the construction.
The public will not only see the incomplete works but have first hand knowledge to formulate their opinion. Now, the interview would have let viewers know that the ministry have begun to apply fines for delays and canceling of contracts. Maybe there will be an explanation of why there is a delay. Hearing from both sides will give a much clearer picture. Otherwise, it will only lead to confusion.
Withdrawing a contractor and having a new one come in to replace is easier said than done. Think if you will of the logistics. Of the time it will take. Is there enough manpower to do these things efficiently, or, going forward the ministry ought to establish a department as this behavior is becoming prevalent by contractors. Their inability to complete works timely.
Do you open a new tender for bids or go to the next contractor from the first bidding. Reassessing the completed or unfinished works to agree on a figure with the new contractor. Availability of that contractor or any new one for that matter will have to be taken into account and the expected recommencement date. Then there’s the removal of previous equipment and machinery etc for replacement by the new contractor. Meantime, weather patterns can play a role of when the new works begin. In short, this will all take time. So the question is which road should the ministry take?
With the amount of ongoing and future infrastructure works expected and in order to handle things expeditiously, there should be in place a new sector, fully staffed with the manpower to keep track of works awarded, check their progress on a regular basis, issue notice of works falling behind with a new date of expected completion and the institution of fines clearly stating daily amounts to the new end date and deducted from future payments to them. A reminder that their future awards of contracts are in jeopardy. A clause that say three strikes and they are out.
Have fall back plans in place. Know which contractors are wrapping up jobs or their availability on say a weekly or biweekly basis for work will go a long way in alleviating canceled contracts. Or, depending on the amount of unfinished work the ministry itself may elect to complete.
Hope you give some credence to my suggestion.

How can we take what the PNCR/APNU say that they plan to do, seriously, when they have a history of not doing nothing or anything. The APNU had the opportunity to build the Mandela to Craig highway but they didn't; to build the specialty hospital in Georgetown but they didn't; to build the hydropower but they didn't; to build the 8 bridge CJIA airport but they didn't; to build a bridge from Linden to Wismar across the Demerara river but they didn’t and so many other things but they didn't; to build a new bridge from Linden to Wismar across the Demerara river but they didn't. They signed the oil contract with ExxonMobil that has now put more than $3.5 billion USD into our sovereign wealth fund which they passed into law. Never forget that.

I appreciate that but why were the PNCR/APNU against the building of the hydropower plant which would benefit the whole of Guyana with electricity and reducing blackouts. Also, they getting a loan from India to build the Specialty Hospital which would have been saving a Guyanese life, especially, our babies and young children. These two could have been done before and without the Exxon and the oil money. Matter of fact, the PNCR/APNU, presently, are still against the building of a hydropower plant.

They signed the oil contract with ExxonMobil that has made us $3.5 billion USD in the last 5 years. They established the sovereign wealth fund with laws to protect it from being drained which this government is changing the laws to withdraw more and more money from. This government overthrew the coalition with lies about the contract with promises to renegotiate the contract. Instead they are draining the wealth fund. I am a citizen of this country.
