Found this channel shortly after the old hotel was lost. Shared it with my best friend and brother-from-another-mother Joff, and we watched every video each week. Swore that once the hotel was up we'd come stay. Joff passed away a year ago, to the day. You'd better believe I'm still coming up there though. Going to bring something of his so he can come too! The drive to succeed in making Cerro Gordo live has driven me in my desire to change my life's direction. I have learned the skills I need for a new profession. Every time I watch something about this town and it's progress it spurs me on. It's not a ghost town, because it will never die if people continue to believe. I believe in Cerro Gordo.
Sorry to hear about Joff. I am from Australia & let me know when this will happen as I worked a copper lead zinc, silver & gold mine for 17 years. Woodlawn mines, tarago nsw Australia which had a similar ore body in places. I would love to come along & also bring stuff that I got from Woodlawn. I would love to see how the ore crushed would react to flotation cells in a mini lab environment. Adding various reagents to see the reaction
Dang, what a cool journey back in time. I remember the day you drove up that mountain road in a snow storm to start your journey. You have met many amazing people to roll up their sleeves and get busy to make this happen. Team Sparks is phenomenal!!
What a journey it's been! The people I've met along the way is my favorite part by far. So amazing to see such passionate people rally behind a common goal.
You have had many visitors and an army or dedicated volunteers who make this drive, but until you do make the drive it is impossible to understand just how extraordinary all of this achievement is, Brent. I made the drive up in November (you were away) and I was truly humbled by what I experienced. You, your loyal posse, Dave Sparks and his and everyone who has lent a hand are living examples of what is possible when you believe. My (Cerro Gordo) hat is off to you all!
This is a Phoenix that you fought so hard to raise from the ashes! This rebuilding of the hotel has been nothing but amazing! In this world there are dreamers, and then those who step in to help the dreams come true! So happy for you!
Brett, you are literally living your dreams!! Congratulations on all your accomplishments over the last 4 years. Keep it going my friend. You are an inspiration to all!!
One thing that makes my soul happy is seeing people come together for the greater good of something! Loved this episode. The progress is tremendous! I commend all who have been involved in the resurrection of that hotel! Can't wait to see the finished product!❤
You DID IT!!! I don't know what chance of fate recommended Ghost Town Living at the very outset of Brent Underwood's Big Adventure, but I feel privileged to have been along on this video journey from the very first episode. The UPs on the Yellow Grade (Brick! 😆😆) Road; and the downs, as Brent proceeded to meet, greet, and leap over every obstacle placed in his path. It is incredible to see The American Hotel rise phoenix-like once again from the ashes of its origin story. Hearty shout-outs to every soul on hand who helped evolve Cerro Gordo into its revival, and continue to do so. 🥳🥳🎉🎉💃🏻💃🏻🪅🪅🎊🎊HAPPY 2024 to those who take care of the Fat Hill. It’s really amazing what you have done with Cerro Gordo and the new American hotel. Can’t wait to see what the future holds. I’m really looking forward to the release of your book too.
So glad you are finally moving ahead and are getting the hotel built! What an incredible amount of work it has been. Thanks for the interesting video and wishing you all the best with your endeavors! I will hopefully be able to come for a visit and would definitely love to check out your little town!
I remember seeing the update of the old hotel burning down. I was fairly new to the channel, I was still in the marines not too much money to my name but man he tugged at my heart strings so I donated what I could. Life got in the way and I’m just seeing this. ABSOLUTELY SPECTACULAR!

I so glad to see the new American Hotel being built. A fine moment in history being made by fine people. Thank you Brent I’ll be listening to your book next.
I've been watching your channel from the beginning, and it brings tears of joy to my eyes to see the American Hotel coming back to life. I look forward to staying there when it's open for business. Congrats Brent!
A person has led a good life when they can overcome setbacks, conquer internal wars, and emerge to contribute value and beauty to the world. You have done all that and more, because you filmed it and shared it with us. Thank you much.
Watching this video was pretty much 22 straight minutes of goosebumps. I discovered this channel within a few weeks of his first posting. As a California resident stuck in London, it helped get me through lockdown. I remember the few video tours Brent gave through the original hotel, and him being filled with such pride at the history it contained. When he posted the video he filmed after it burned down, I remember being partially in shock, and then breaking down myself when he broke down. I relate so much to what compels him and could feel his devastation. This process of rebuilding, and the global support of his followers, Dave Sparks, the entire Keeler community at large, rebuilding a road not once but twice after “once a century” floods…I’m not sure anything could more fully represent the true American spirit over the last 4 years than the rebuilding of this hotel. It means SO MUCH MORE than just walls and floors and a roof. SO MUCH MORE. You’ve got this Brent. We believe in you. We believe in the community you’ve built. And we believe in the American dream. LONG LIVE THE NEW AMERICAN HOTEL!!
Thank you very much! It is so much more than just the walls and floors. I really appreciate that comment. Here's to a whole new generation of people enjoying Cerro Gordo!
WOW Brent--- Congratulations on getting the American Hotel at least buttoned-up for winter. What an incredible show of teamwork and dedication to seeing this hotel become a reality. I plan on visiting from Arizona soon. Very exciting.
I still remember the episode where you had to tell the YT the hotel was gone! Amazing to see the progress. Big thanks to everyone who put in their time and money. Can’t wait to see what the future brings.
Very moving video. The hard work, and emotions put into this build. The loss of the original Hotel, has brought so many people together. So many new friendships made. New stories to tell. A new special connection to Cerro Gordo. Connecting the 1800’s to the 2000’s. A true story of the ultimate resilience. Never giving up.

SPRAY FOAM. Use closed cell spray foam for the all the insulation. Yes, it is a little expensive but will pay for itself in the long run. Its water tight, bug tight and it doesn't sag over time. Not only that, but it will stiffen the roof, increasing the strength. It will make your guests feel warm, while substantially reducing your heating costs. I did my shop in spray foam two years ago. I have a bug problem in the house, but not in my shop. It takes very little to heat it. In the summer, enough cool comes from the floor that it doesn't need AC, even when it is in the high 90s outdoors. Its the only way to go.
Super happy you were able to get the roof on before a big weather event.🎉 Outstanding brother!! I said along time ago, if anybody can get this thing viable , it is definitely you and all the wonderful people that volunteer their passion and effort to help you make the American Hotel a reality.
So excited to see the American Hotel finally look like a hotel. Can't wait till you start taking reservations. You have done such a awesome job bringing back to life this ghost town. Keep up the hard work.

So so glad the hotel is almost there!!! What a journey it has been!! So inspiring. So so close it feels like now!!
I've been watching your channel since the beginning. I felt your anguish and cried myself when the Hotel perished. But you did it, you rebuilt Her! 🎊 CONGRATULATIONS!
Wow, you and every single person involved in this mammoth project are testament to what can be achieved when we stand shoulder to shoulder. This is the stuff our ancestors were made of. I'm so proud of you, Brent, and all the team involved 👏 ❤ 👏 .
Blessings from Ireland.
Maggie Mae Fish: Debunking the Offgrid Fantasy 12:43 has an interesting take on "Brent"
Amazing, many congratulations to all who have been a part of the build. Can't wait to come and stay!
Boy oh boy that Dave Sparks and crew were a God send!!!
Congrats Brent. Really great seeing how far it’s come. I still remember watching the heart-breaking video of you sharing it burned down. This is very inspirational.
surely it will simply be a matter of 2 to 3 months before this project is complete and vacationers are visiting saro gordow! I can't wait this is gonna be so awesome 😎
Brent! This is awesome! So glad to see the transition from day one and onward. I've been a follower since your first few video. It was heartbreaking when the original hotel met it's end. You have championed the rebuild and I am so glad that you can see that all your hard work, sweat and energy has paid off. Can hardly wait to see the finished product. All the best to you for 2024!!
This video is absolutely outstanding. It actually brought tears of joy to my eyes! I have been following since the beginning and will one day visit in person.
Congratulations to you Brent and to everyone that has come together and worked so hard to accomplish this goal with you!! It's been truly inspiring to see your dreams come into reality! Stay warm up there! I can't wait to see what spring brings for you! ❤😊
I'm looking forward to staying at the hotel.👍Hi from the UK.
WOW! Congratulations to Brent and the crew! From nothing to this beautiful building. What a collective effort can create. I love it!
cant wait to see the back filling on the basement and all the interior come together.
modern day legend,a true inspiration, and what a team you have behind you
YOU DID IT!!! Battle ready for Old Man Winter!!!
Loved the time lapse to see it all come together! Hopefully the roads hold out this winter!
I'm blown away by the 10 foot basement That wont be seen from the outside.
So cool seeing this historic hotel being brought back to life it shows how hard it was to build in the first place without all this equipment
It really helps put in perspective everything they did here back in the day with just mules and manpower. What a place. What determination.
Wonderful
@@GhostTownLiving people were made differently back then they were harder.
@@simplesepticsecrets Yeah, they didn't have a choice after all, i'm glad thanks to the knowledge of everyone who came before us some things can be a little easier these days!
Wherever you went to college, Brent, they should have you listed as one of their distinguished alumni. I’m not here to make your head big, but your videos are a masterpiece example of the style. Interesting, informative, and absolutely fascinating to watch and experience.
Florida State University & Columbia University.
I knew he was smart!
Such an amazing place to live and work! Cant wait to see your first guest enjoying all your hard work.
I have hope you will get the hotel done and open in the next couple of years. Want to make one last trip out west to see this beautiful country of ours before my clock runs out. The American hotel is on my bucket list of places to stay and explore Cerra Gordo.
It's been a long time building the hotel And I'm really glad to see it up like it is I can't wait to come to visit for a week or two I'm so excited for you Brent and for all the people who help make it happen for you
Fireman 🔥🔥🔥👍
Can't believe it's been 3 years already. Amazing progress.
So excited to see the American Hotel finally look like a hotel. Can't wait till you start taking reservations. You have done such a awesome job bringing back to life this ghost town. Keep up the hard work.
Just here to add to the comments. Love and respect ❤️💛💚
Do you realize how much we care for you and your ghost town? You're an amazing man and deserve every bit of this. ❤❤❤
Smas one of his erly fans i was crying whils whaching this
Congratulations and Happy New Year in 2024. Health and Happiness to ALL.
So glad to see you have made it this far! Congratulations on a great project...well, your life actually. Keep on truckin' and God's richest blessings.
Brent it’s inspirational to watch you persevere through something that was at some points an impossible task! Keep it up and thanks for sharing your journey with us
I’ve been watching you since before the hotel burned down and I’m so thrilled with how far you’ve come both personally and all the work you’ve accomplished. Keep up the great work 🎉🎉😊
Really cool, Brent. Really , Cool. Inspiring Vid. Great music. Congrats. Got your book in the mail today so I’m reviewing your journey before I begin to read. Bless you!
Brent, You have come a long way since that first video you posted. Really pleased to see the progress on the hotel and the exploration underground.
I look forward to seeing what the coming years brings. I'd also like to say thanks to all those that said "hold my beer" rather than "that's too difficult"
We’ve never met, Brent. But I am still very proud of you!! You have such a rare and priceless spirit and that’s why we all watch and support you and what you’re doing. Thank you for keeping history alive and showing the world a true example of perseverance and dedication!
it's emotional because he knows you'll pay him money even though he bought this with investors, he literally went to school for marketing and did a podcast in 2016 that talks how he views content and says that it works on people because it's written to push a narrative that's beneficial for the company or in this case, him and his investors. it's just a start up and his negligence burned down a piece of history that sruvived for 100 years before he showed up. But sure, make him richer so he can do this around the world and burn down more historical pieces. He said he cares about preserving history and that everything should stay at Cerro Gordo but then sells jeans and rocks he finds for literally HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS
I’ve watched this channel since the beginning. This episode was very emotional. Seeing the hard work, community & working as a team is what this country desperately needs more of. I can’t wait to spend a night in that hotel!

@@daemonbyte6818 the guy is such a massive grifter it's hilarious and nauseating at the same time
@@daemonbyte6818 just watched that maggie fish video huh? Not a whole lot of nuance going on there but your judgement is pre-chewed and made for you
@@quotenspartaner149 You can call it pre chewed and sit on your high horse if you wish. These UA-camrs and influencers are manipulating your emotions and asking you to give them money. But how much you wanna bet that you and all these other pukes on here would look at a homeless guy and scoff and tell him to get a job so you wouldn’t throw him a penny. But throw a mouse looking ginger dude with glasses who burns down a historic building after spending 1.4 mil on a piece of land and then asking people to come help him and pay him money to rebuild (when it wasn’t safe enough to stay in to begin with) and you throw your money at them. It’s been so great following along with this ghost town. Congrats on the hotel being rebuilt 🎉
The community and willingness to overcome the greatest challenges is what I love about this channel! I wish you the greatest success!
A worthless hotel burns down and you all buy him a new one! This guy is a con man, look up his past.
Thanks for the refresh Brent, I followed Dave and subbed thereafter and have enjoyed each video thanks for the knowledge and entertainment. Looking forward to more in 2024. Nice to see the hotel coming back so strongly, it was tragic when you lost her. Take care and stay safe !
Simply amazing seeing this beautiful Hotel slowly rising up to greet all who will eventually come . Thanks Brent for your strength, courage and tenacity to see this becoming a reality , and Thanks to Dave Sparks, Harman Hauling & all who have unselfishly thrown in to help here . Looking forward to seeing it done and in all its glory . 😎👍
Amazing 3 years in the making and all the struggles you over came so proud of everything you have done up there in Cerra Gordo :)
Shout out to Diesel Brothers and their incredible crew of hard working men, for doing their part in rebuilding Cerro Gordo.
I’m glad and heard the news of this broken hotel and ghost town. I’m glad it took a great amount of people and community to fix this hotel. Hope to visit one day and see the beautiful place. ❤❤ love this place. Such a great video.
I just told my wife we are going to go stay at your hotel for are 20th wedding anniversary which is in 5yrs. I’ve been watching from the start and love your videos and always look forward to your new video. Keep up the hard work. Much respect from my family to you.
That final shot with the now refilled lake in the background was EPIC. What a great journey its been watching the hotel being resurrected.
Jack McCloskey lived up there and made saddles for two years. He lived in a small house, that had 7 additions to it. very early 1990's. It was Belshaw's home
Proud of your determination to make the American Hotel happen in spite of everything, well done Brent.
Just waiting for Waterstones to tell me my copy of Ghost Town Living is ready to collect now!
We used T&G plywood on the floors to prevent the edges from becoming uneven and causing high spots on the floor.

Absolutely amazing, I don’t know why, but I’ve had this unexplainable desire and unearthly pull to nature that surrounds Cerro Gordo as well as everything regarding the old american style. This channel is my therapy. Thank you Brent!
