Hey, so have you ever seen a rococo portrait painted by Alexander Roslin of a noblewoman, Baroness De Neuborg Cromiere ? If you havent, look it up. I think youd like it. And the dress!
fun fact: even though versailles is technically built in a swamp, they had a really big problem to supply enough water to all the fountains in the parc. that meant they were only turned on when the king walked past them. servants were on the lookout where he would wander next and turn them on and off accordingly.
Please make a video about the practicallities. How do you pack a baroc dress? What are the contingency in case the luggage is lost? How do you get into/out of a cab in full splendor? Are the bathrooms big enough to use in a very wide dress?
Most people stay to hotels. Ibis and Hotel Louis are near the palace. We all go to the castle walking on the street. Some people come with cats and they dress on parking. You don't dress on bathroom but on the room. The ibis have small rooms but big dress can be there but you cannot take the elevator, just the stairs.
@@ViveLeRoi1975 Thank you for the info! It's super helpful! Do you know how people rent dresses though? Is it possible to book online before you go from one of those places on official website? I'm still traumatized from arriving to the Versailles garden gates in bit fancier dress (nothing opulent like a ball gown) and they nearly forbid me from entering. Made me wear a coat over my dress the whole time and not take pictures... They probably would've fully turned me away at the gate but we had already bought day tickets. I had researched beforehand and nowhere was mentioning any dress code, and it really soured my whole experience 😢

Love your channel …I won’t be going this year but I made a more subdued court suit and will go next year as an American Ambassador to the French Crown. I found a fabulous beehive patterned brown silk and linen fabric. I’m also a wedding officiant and I do weddings in costume for period events.. ( Renaissance, 17-18 Century) I’m now working on a black frock coat in a rose jacquard pattern with matching breeches and a black skull cap. Do you recommend any reasonably priced embroidery machine that out there? I don’t think I could afford the kind you have and hand embroidery is a pain.

Could you explain what you do to the gown once you arrive at your hotel to get it into a wearable state once it is out of your luggage👗Xx. 1320 on 1st May
I would love to go but I don’t know how they would treat me as I have to use a full hight walking frame as for normal everyday wear, that would be an issue as I don’t wear much in the way of what is called modern fashion, never have done, as me Mom kept saying “your out of Step with time”😹😹 I would love to go the the ball but again the walking frame would be an issue, I keep forgetting soo many things are off limits to you when you have any form of disability that makes you totally reliant on external mobility aids.
It is, and if you are going all that way to Europe you'd want to spend some time there and lugging around a giant dress while you travel around would be annoying. I didn't actually think of hiring before. Not as personal but more practical.
Really surprised at the cost! I would've thought it would have been higher. Also sad that a modern person can't attend with a cell phone. You could be a time traveler.
Thank you for a look into this magical event! I couldn't attend- I am severely heat intolerant and use a wheelchair so un-aired old buildings with towering marble stairs are a no-go for me, though I have to say someday I'd love to redesign a robe a la francais for someone who is going to be sitting the whole time, and rework the architecture. It's delightful to have you share this view into that palace. I shall carry in on my 12th century bliauts and my rolling throne.

Tickets should go up for sale in October! Good luck!
Could you explain what you do to the gown once you arrive at your hotel to get it into a wearable state once it is out of your luggage👗Xx. 1320 on 1st May
I would love to go but I don’t know how they would treat me as I have to use a full hight walking frame as for normal everyday wear, that would be an issue as I don’t wear much in the way of what is called modern fashion, never have done, as me Mom kept saying “your out of Step with time”😹😹
I would love to go the the ball but again the walking frame would be an issue, I keep forgetting soo many things are off limits to you when you have any form of disability that makes you totally reliant on external mobility aids.
I love your videos! ❤
The link to the fetes galantes is linking to 2019 tickets... it is currently 2023.....
hope you have a ball there in may! (hehe)
Oh New Zealand is so far away from everywhere😢
It's a feature
same here in Australia :(
It is, and if you are going all that way to Europe you'd want to spend some time there and lugging around a giant dress while you travel around would be annoying. I didn't actually think of hiring before. Not as personal but more practical.
Do people need to wear robe à la française to enter the ball or you could recreate Thai or Chinese delegation dress to recreate historical events?
Really surprised at the cost! I would've thought it would have been higher. Also sad that a modern person can't attend with a cell phone. You could be a time traveler.
One word! 🤩 WOW!
the fact that i will be in france next year vs tickets + travel + renting a robe a la francaise.... oh decisions decisions
